I attended a celebration with friends. The restaurant was well attended. The food was delicious. Typical noise level for private party. It was a very busy and demands during celebration were high for staff, they worked hard to deliver all the plater family style dishes. Parking, is a bit of a challenge, the bigger parking lot was a 1/2 block down the street. There needs to be a bigger visible sign as one is driving

I've been here twice and forgotten they don't have fried taro, my favorite. Pictured are shrimp rolls and turnip cake. One time I asked for pea shoots and they were billed at $26, which was a shock. They aren't on the menu. Cleanliness is not that great and service is fine.

My first yum-cha and dim sum review of 2026! What was once Tai Wu, is now Hong Kong Palace, which joins its older siblings; Lai Hong Lounge and Hong Kong Lounge - both dim sum institutions in San Francisco proper (I also have reviews on both). Where: Millbrae has always had a sleuth of dim sum or large Cantonese restaurants. Seeing the May Flower close its doors was discerning, but that Hong Kong Palace fills that void, or at least I think so. Located just minutes from Millbrae Bart station, and roughly 30 minutes by car from the center of San Francisco. Parking is also very accessible in the area (residential and parking lot). What: come here for dim sum during the day, and dinner in the evening for classic Cantonese fare. The restaurant has 3 floors of dining rooms, and the staff may seat patrons on any of the floors depending on how busy it is. The interior features red oak, pale pink walls, crimson red carpeting, and crystal chandeliers. Color palette and design is similar to that of Lai Hong Lounge and Hong Kong Lounge. How: a laminated menu not only displays all the dim sum offerings, but also as a means to order. Mark as many or as little as you want, hand off to one of the staff members, and wait for the piping hot dishes and steam baskets appear before your eyes. Why: while there are no push carts here, the food here is delicious and delivers on the quintessential experience of dim sum. One cannot go wrong with; custard egg tarts, shui mai, ha gao, black bean chicken feet, steamed rice noodle rolls, steamed pork spare ribs, steamed beef tripe, congee, daikon cake, etc - just to name a few. I didn't name all of what is offered, but know that everything is superb. Service: while there's no white glove service or fancy cutlery neatly placed on each table; the staff here do things right by acknowledging their patrons, taking their orders, serving food, and consistently checking on their patrons for anything else they may want or need. I'm happy to be able to dine at the same food I've come to love when dining at a Hong Kong Lounge based restaurant.

Came here today with my mom. Had a smaller dim sum lunch. Used to visit Millbrae restaurants...it's different now. We ate here with my father here before. Classic dim sum.

Honestly, this place really does deserve the current rating. We went for dim sum on a weekend, but it wasn't packed and there was no wait. I'm not saying a great dim sum restaurant needs to be packed, but it is a flag for me. The food was just okay, but the prices were affordable comparing to other spots. The service was quite horrible because the staff were extremely rude; throwing the ordering cards at the table when something was available. Speaking in a demeaning manner. This type of behavior is unacceptable.

I come here for dim sum often, but this was only my third time coming for dinner. We dined here before Chinese New Year and enjoyed the food, so we decided to come back for our family Chinese New Year dinner. I called to make a reservation and pre-ordered their suckling pig for the evening. The nine of us also ordered eight additional dishes: crab and fish maw soup (which I forgot to take pictures of), half a chicken, Peking duck, XO intestines, mixed seafood tofu, steak cubes with mixed mushrooms, abalone with mushrooms and bean sprouts, and a garlic vegetable dish. All the dishes were delicious. The suckling pig skin was incredibly crispy. The restaurant also gave us a complimentary steamed sponge cake, which was delicious! The ceilings are high, so it doesn't feel noisy, and the tables aren't cramped together. They have two parking lots a block away, so parking isn't an issue. Street parking is also available. Now we have another great dinner spot to add to our list!

There are a lot and I do mean a lot of Chinese restaurant options in the city of Millbrae. With its central location near the San Francisco International Airport and Highway 101, Hong Kong Palace is just one of many options and it is actually the newest one of them all. But the place that Hong Kong Palace took over was long established as the home of Tai Wu, which for at least a couple of decades held the title of the most in demand restaurant in all of the area that surrounds the El Camino Real. Their success literally affected everyone else in the neighborhood, as parking and traffic were affected by their popularity and a constant stream of customers lining up outside to dine there, especially for a dim sum brunch. So with new ownership taking over with a new name to boot Hong Kong Palace is now reborn, although upon entry to this relatively new business, not much has changed since the new owners took over, as they still have three floors of dining with more private large party dining accessible on floors two and three with additional rooms for karaoke singing and dining on the second floor. Upon my first visit to this updated restaurant, a group of eight diners came for dinner on a Friday evening right when they opened and honestly the place was not filled with customers. The menu at Hong Kong Palace is separated into categories including BBQ, Soup, Seafood, Meat Selection, Rice, Entrées, and their set Banquet Menus for large parties. On our initial visit we enjoyed their Soup of the Day, which was a vegetable-based soup, one Roasted Squab which was quartered into fourths, Rice Noodles and Scallops sautéed with garlic and served on a giant clam, Peking Spareribs in Sweet and Sour Sauce, Mushrooms served in gravy on a bed of Chinese Spinach, and Hong Kong Style Fried Rice served with Egg Whites. Everything that we were served tasted really delicious, as you can tell that they are cooking their cuisine in a more homestyle way of cooking at Hong Kong Palace versus that of Tai Wu, which although was a completely different restaurant, everything inside remains the same, so one would assume that many of the same players are still involved. Our total bill was $168 dollars for meal which for seven large family-style entrées, is actually pretty reasonable, and the food was good enough to warrant additional visits, especially with their location being so close to the airport and with them having their own private lot made choose to make a return visit a natural choice. That return visit would happen a few months later where we would be able to sample their morning dim sum menu on a weekend afternoon. We lucked out as their first floor dining room tends to be busy during this time of day, but there was one large table available that our party of few felt very spacious sitting at. For dim sum, we ordered their Soy Sauce Chow Fun, a portion of Roast Duck, which was a special menu item, Tamago Tofu with Shrimp, House Special Deep Fried Eggplant covered in sweet sauce, Baked BBQ Pork Buns with a sugary exterior, Fish Porridge, Beef Noodle Roll, two servings of their Beef Meatballs, two servings of their Sticky Rice Shrimp Dumplings, and two servings of their Mixed Grains served in a wrapped Lotus Leaf. The highlights here were the Tamago Tofu with Shrimp and their Deep Fried Eggplant which were unique plays on the traditional Cantonese cuisine thanks to the abundance of sauce that each dish seemed to contain. Give me some steamed white rice and you are all set with a meal unto itself. For this visit, our bill came to $83.35 which included tax but not gratuity, which considering the amount of food we received, which included enough to take home for a future meal, it was a completely satisfying experience. Hong Kong Palace has firmly ensconced themselves in the competitive Millbrae dining scene, and locals and out of towners should be lucky that they are here thriving serving hearty traditional Cantonese cuisine at affordable prices.

    Discounted Menu

Came on a weekday during lunch time. It was a little crowded but there's more tables and seating on the third floor! They have a menu with discounted items available on weekdays from 11 am to 12:30 pm and weekends from 10 am to 12 am, as of now. The dim sum was very solid. I enjoyed the baked BBQ pork buns and steamed chive and shrimp dumpling, which were both on the discounted menu. I also liked the tofu skin roll with pork and fried pork puff. The shrimp dumpling was a little disappointing, as the shrimp was not very crisp or fresh, and the brown sugar sponge cake was also just okay (although the texture was great). But overall, enjoyed the meal and would return! There is a parking lot available but it gets filled pretty quickly.

This is my new favorite place for dim sum. The price is pretty reasonable. The food taste delicious, the fried food don't taste overly greasy and I love how the green tea puff are light and decadent. Has good lighting for pictures and would come back next time. The staffs are friendly and make the experience nice.

Came back for friend Birthday dinner. We got private room which have karaoke. It was nice private room with table fit about 15 people. Service was good and foods were also good but many were at sweet side. It is good place to hang out with friends and families for dimsum or dinner.

Decor is contemporary Chinese with high ceilings and large TV screens. Yan is very popular so expect their small parking lot to be full and difficulty finding street spaces, especially on weekends. Instead of dim sum carts, the table places orders on paper, marking the quantities of selected dim sum. Despite the capacity crowd, food came quickly. While every dim sum was delicious based on our 9-person table consumption that had almost no take-home boxes, the Chicken Feet was my favorite, with extra large claws and unique, delicious marinade sauce (I don't recall this with chicken feet elsewhere). Unlike most Chinese restaurants, the service staff were surprisingly cordial. While very busy, they still managed to be quick and smile. Waitresses were accommodating and helped us take group photos as we celebrated Dad's 94th birthday with three tables of 25 people. The experience felt slow and terrible. It's almost excusable if it was busy, but it was not. Even with less people in the restaurant, the service remained slow for us. To wrap it all up, we decided to pay in the front due to slower service and was met with attitude and being questioned about the legitimacy of our receipt to pay. ??? The only good thing I would say is that the food tasted great, but pairing it with how slow the food came out and the negative attitude we met, I would not recommend nor patron this place again. Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.

It's a Hong Style cafe tucked in a corner of a Millbrae shopping plaza dominated by a car wash and an In-N-Out Burger. Very few of this type of business exist in my hometown so I came for a small snack after an evening event in an adjacent neighborhood. The dining room had fewer than ten tables for seating. What struck me when I walked in was the number of special menus that were available. They ranged from lunch combo specials, dinner combo specials, daily specials, afternoon tea set meals, and all-day dim sum. The advertising/marketing team had to be busy to come up with these offers. There was a Monday to Friday special between 5 and 9 pm in which you could pick any three unique dim sum items out of a set of ten choices for $12.95. I selected the Chicken Siu Mai, Beef Balls, and Fried Bean Curd Rolls for my order. Since I arrived near the closing time, I wonder if the kitchen was already winding down. It took longer than expected to prepare those items when there were just one or two parties left. Three pieces were in the siu mai steamer while the other steamers had two pieces each. Chicken siu mai is not a variety that we even have in SD which was why I picked it. The meat filling might be slightly healthier than the traditional pork & shrimp combination. My food was piping hot after waiting for it to arrive at my table. I found the quality to be average, but the value was very good. If I lived south of the city, then I would return and try other offerings from the main menu like the Hainan Chicken Rice, Baked Cutlet Pork Chop with Spaghetti, and the Braised Beef Wonton Noodle Soup. Both were incredibly tasty. The chicken was tender and the beans were crisp and fresh! Just OK: the typhoon shrimp fried rice, daikon, and the typhoon chicken wings. The rice barely had any shrimp, but at least the rice had some good seasoning on it so it was fine to eat by itself. The chicken wings and daikon were nothing special. Hard pass: the salted egg yolk fries were soggy and just had a very bland taste. Adding a bit of ketchup helped a bit, but I only could eat 2-3 fries. Speaking of ketchup, I think the red sauce in the baked pasta was a mix of ketchup and some tomatoes. Tasted sweet and artificial. Service was fine - you order from a QR code so they deliver the food to the table in a pretty timely manner. Maybe the dim sum would've been better if I ordered more of it. Maybe next time.
