Horrible Acai Bowl. This place used to have great customer service and Acai Bowls were good. Now they care. less.

Not only do they roast their own coffee, the cafe has a comfortable atmosphere and provides for great people-watching no matter which location you are at. Best of all, their pastry chef, Abi, trained in France and makes ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PASTRIES IN HONOLULU! If they have it, try the chocolate mascarpone mousse cake. My favorite, though, is the fruit tart, which I used to eat twice a week. The base never gets soggy because it is coated with a super thin layer of white chocolate, atop which rests pastry cream flecked with real vanilla and the choicest exotic fruits of the season, such as physallis, plum, kiwi, nectarine, cherry, strawberry, orange, pineapple, blackberry, blueberry and/or dragonfruit. I really think she goes through whatever fruit she receives that day and picks out the biggest, sweetest, ripest ones to use and throws the rest away. All of her pastries are as good as pastries in Paris. (As a point of reference, when I lived in Paris I ate 2 pastries and a beurre et sucre (butter sugar) crepe a day. So rest assured that I know my pastries. Intimately.) If you're craving a savory treat, try a tomato tarte or have them toast up a eggplant, tomato, arugula sandwich. I didn't even notice the lack of meat, it was so good. So good, I almost forgot to write about the coffee. Their baristas are highly trained--precise and friendly. All of their drinks are correctly proportioned and the perfect foam on top features a fern leaf--sort of like the shamrock on a Guinness at a pub. Cute Asian girls beware: the owner has an Asian Fixation and may try to latch on to you like a magnet. He actually hit on me and my mom at the same time. Ew. read more

This place is at most OK but today made me to NEVER recommend this place. Horrible service if you're not in their 'in' crowd. Prices aren't anywhere near worth it. Stay away, better coffee and stuff within a few steps. While waiting for black iced coffee (nothing fancy, just ice and coffee in a cup) I watched as they serviced everyone that came after me. Even making deluxe drinks and other smoothies with careful detail. I just wanted coffee. Waste of time and money. Not a bad cup of coffee and I always enjoy acai bowls for breakfast though spending that much money before 8am is tough (a cup of drip and a bowl come out to about $9). I thought they put too much honey in the bowl and the very end of it was too sweet. read more

Yes, any drink (minus the smoothies and other non-coffee drinks). Don't be a fool and waste your filled card on a $1.90 small coffee. Go big or go home with one of their yummy coffee smoothies (i.e. my favorite: mocha freeze). + All of their yummy treats are made by their own pastry chefs. Aloha Fridays are special days to all of us, and to Honolulu Coffee Co too. So special that they have a specialty coffee available only on Fridays. The coffee is great here but I'm disappointed by the service. Their barsistas at the Ala Moana kiosk on the 3rd floor are so much more friendlier and nicer. They act like they can't be bothered here. No latte designs. No extra effort. Meh. Improve your service and don't count on your coffee to get you customers. Managers I hope you take notice. read more

When I want a REAL cup of brewed coffee, this is the place I go to rather than the Starbucks across the street from it. Their coffee blends are perfect and don't taste like some overly sweet concoction like those you find at Starbucks. The prices are reasonable for the various drinks as well, and the iced coffee hits the spot when you want something refreshing on a hot day. Be sure to stop in on fridays when they have the Kona Peaberry brew since that's the only day they offer it, it's well worth stopping in for! Before I forget, the staff here is generally pleasant too & look like they're happy to be there. Seriously though, if you want some real coffee this is one of the best places in downtown to get some! read more

Came here after my bagel at This Is It Too for coffee and a slice of their pumpkin bread. Coffee: 4.5 stars; pleasant favor and robustness; Pumpkin Bread: 3.5 stars; dense & nutty (sounds like an ex). Sat outside at one of their marble topped tables in the morning breeze of Tamarind Square. So, this is what it feels like to be retired and playing hookie. Hardly. Took the day off to attend to family stuff and dropped off a friend to their surgical procedure nearby and waited for the pick up call here. A rather nice killing of time. The coffee is pretty good here. The pastries are good as well since they started baking their own pastries at the main store. Likes: Their regular blend brewed coffee is good. In general, their coffee is more mellow than Starbucks. The croissants are flaky and buttery. Just make sure to get it toasted. Dislikes: Prices are slightly higher than a typical coffee shop, but it's local. Favorites: I like their Americanos. The macadamia nut chocolate chip cookie is delicious and well priced (about $2). I would go here more often if there weren't 5-6 coffee shops that were closer to my work. read more

One extra bit of useful info: In the daily morning coffee rush (8-9a.m.), there are NEVER more than a couple people in line here, partly because this location has the fastest barista I've ever seen working every morning. While all 3 downtown Starbucks lines are 10-15 people strong, I can walk in and out of Honolulu Coffee Co. in under 5 minutes. Plus they serve 100% Kona coffee, their prices are comparable with all the major shops downtown (med. reg. coffee ~ $2), and it's a local company that runs as professionally as any chain anywhere. 5 stars for their acai bowl and almost croissant. I think I tried their coffee a few times, but it didn't really stand out and make me say "mmm, this is the only place I'm getting coffee from now on". However, I am sold on the almond croissant and acai bowl. Almond croissant: Get it warmed up.. you won't regret it. So flaky, buttery, and yummy! It's unlike any almond croissant you have ever had. PROMISE! It has the right amount of sweetness and what makes this an extraordinary croissant is the almond paste/cream inside. Yumm! Acai bowl: Their acai bowl was surprisingly good! What I like about their acai bowl (served in a plastic cup) is they layer all the yummy granola, bananas, honey, and acai like an acai parfait. During my lunch break, one day I stopped in at the Honolulu Coffee Company located in the lobby of the American Savings Bank building in downtown. From their menu, I was looking to find something refreshing to drink. I inquired on their iced coffee drinks and noticed a Kona Frost Caramella. I was informed it has crushed ice, milk, coffee and a drizzle of caramel. Since I am a fan of caramel and it reminded me of a frappuccino, I decided to order a small Kona Frost Caramella with soy milk for $4.25. I thank the staff at this Honolulu Coffee Company for preparing the delicious iced coffee drink. It was excellent! read more

I'm okay with this location of Honolulu Coffee Co. in Downtown, Honolulu. The reason why I support Honolulu Coffee Company is that they serve local Kona coffee. Anything made local, is definitely reason enough for my business. Hawaii's economy and locate businesses is very fragile and being a local, we have to stick support our community. The reason why I am not a fan is because their prices are very high. This location has very nice staff. The only downside in regards to their staff is that staff is much, much, less efficient then their rivals: Starbucks across the street on their left and right across the block. Other comments to this location: they have a few tables and chairs, no parking and no bathrooms. Overall, they serve great coffee and their acai bowls are delicious! read more

You can always tell someone who has lived in Seattle when they cringe at the thought of ordering from Starbucks. So, when my job relocated me for hours on end to downtown, I knew I had to find an alternative. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Honolulu Coffee Co had a store downtown and the thought made my heart skip a beat. Their coffee is well roasted and then brewed to a perfect harmony of flavors. Whether you choose to order a mocha, a latte, or perhaps a simple drip, you can clearly taste the difference between well roasted beans and well brewed coffee and mass-produced versions. You can almost hear angels singing when you take a sip (did I mention I've cut back on my coffee?). Are the prices higher than your usual shop, yes, but it is worth every penny. I would say it is probably about 10% higher than area shops, but the lines move very quickly and the service is fantastic. If you are in downtown and in the need for a caffeine fix, be sure to check out Honolulu Coffee Company. They are right on the outskirts of Tamarind Park and right below the parking garage. Speedy service, delicious goods, and the aloha spirit! Doesn't get much better than this folks :) Great place for macaroons. We hosted a Paris-themed party at my office and ordered macaroons in a variety of colors. They were boxed and ready in a jiffy! The quality of the macaroons were exceptional; very fresh. I usually enjoy an Acai Bowl (cup) here and they never skimp on the product--it usually takes me two sittings to enjoy. I def recommend this if you want a breakfast treat or mid-day revival downtown. read more

Summary: Good quality but nothing to go crazy over. Review: When it comes to different coffee shops to go to here on Oahu your choices are either Starbucks or one of the more obscure coffee shops around the island. Starbucks offer quick, convenient, and quality coffee and products while providing great studying atmospheres. Obscure coffee shops offer superior products at a cost of convenience and at times prices. Honolulu Coffee Co. is a middle of the road coffee shop. I usually visit the branch near HPU and its just ok. It offer's better coffee than Starbucks but something about HCC's lack of a big menu and superior products makes it a hard go-to place. I usually go here to get their acai bowls that are pretty good for their $6.02 price tag. It's filling and inexpensive as compared to specialty acai bowl stores. The branch near HPU has wi-fi but it doesn't have any outlets, bathrooms, or even a decent atmosphere conducive to studying. This makes it impossible to recommend to students. Overall, its a middle of the road coffee shop that doesn't have anything unique to offer besides well priced acai bowls. read more

It's not the best place for coffee. It was always a bit too strong for my taste. And the regular black iced tea I ordered had notes of fruits in it(?). If I wanted a fruit tea, I would've ordered one. I would actually give this place 2 stars, except when I had gone back to try (yet again) their macaroons, they were not stale like the last time, but fresh, crisp and delicate. This is another coffee/tea place I like to go to. Also this is very close to my office! Just a quick 5 minute walk ;) I like to get iced tea or hot tea. I recommend the mint mimaki hot tea! It has great flavor and it isn't too minty. Really good with lemon and honey as well. The one thing I really come here for us actually the chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie. It's so freaking good! It's chewy but not too soft. The combination of chocolate chip and macadamia nuts adds great flavor and texture. One of the best cookies I've ever had and I keep coming for more! read more

Love their soy latte here. They use barista soy! The latte was smooth, even until the last bit! The barista was awesome & friendly! He steamed the milk just right, and the espresso tasted smooth. I will definitely come here again to get my coffee fix. Parking in downtown, especially if you don't work here is pretty hard. I love my hot cocoa/chocolate and I always try it in every place I can find in the morning. This morning I hit jackpot at Honolulu Coffee on Bishop St. They were fast, friendly and the hot chocolate was unlike any other I had tried. I could pick this one out of a blind taste test. This place has really great coffee and the employees here are very friendly. It makes for a nice morning experience. I always get a latte so I have never tried anything else. With the exception of Brue (sorry guys), this is the best coffee in town imho. Starbucks is more of a habit for me but for really enjoyable coffee, HCC is the place! It's conveniently located on the first floor of my work building, it's a littl pricey to come here everyday but I come maybe once a week or whenever I want to treat myself. It's a nice place to go to grab a quick cup of coffee or tea. I love their pastries, my favorites are the pumpkin bread and blueberry scones, they even offer to warm up the scones for you. The girls who work here are always super friendly and engage in conversation, so it's always a pleasent experience coming here. So maybe their prices are a bit steep compared to the $1 coffee at Chitchat, but you can be assured that whatever you happen to order will be high quality and delicious. read more
