This store focus on noodles while the nearby Hon's Wun-Tun House has more food options like stir fry and dumplings. The restaurant has a great, bright, and clean casual noodle-shop vibe that makes you feel right at home. The classic wonton noodle soup is straight out of Hong Kong. Noodles are perfectly crunchy, the shrimp/white chive broth is addictive, and it tastes just like HK when you add the red vinegar! The beef organs dry noodle was also delicious, perfectly cooked with a rich sauce and paired with a side of their amazing signature soup. Best of all, the staff was highly attentive and there wasn't a single rude server. A must-visit! I will absolutely come back again.
Located across the street from Portsmouth Square in Chinatown, this is a very authentic, hole-in-the-wall, won-ton noodle soup place. We visited on around 12:30pm on a Thursday. We waited about ten minutes for a table to clear before we could be seated. It's a small restaurant. Please note that if you're dining alone, you may be asked to share a table with someone else. We ordered the C6, Beef Brisket Wunton Soup ($15.95), an A4, Cucumber Salad with Peanuts ($11.95) and an A5, Marinated Chinese Seaweed ($12.95). They were all pretty good, with typical "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant quality. The seaweed, however, was really salty. We probably wouldn't order that dish here again. The brisket wonton soup was good. The meat had minimal gristle or tendons. We would order that one again. There are no hidden surcharges or SF Mandate fees here. If you like your Chinese food authentic, this is a good place to go. They won't smile and ask you how you are doing. They're not big on service, and your table might feel sticky. But the food will be good.
I finally got to try Hon's after having this spot bookmarked for years and it was the perfect quick dinner on a cold, rainy day when I was craving something soupy. I got the curry beef brisket wun-tun noodle soup while my boyfriend opted for the char sui and beef brisket wun-tun noodle soup. We also got an order of their boiled chicken, corn and mushroom dumplings to share. The menu is pretty large but essentially different combos of bbq with noodles, wun-tuns in soup or dry. The flavors are so comforting and fragrant. I loved the curry beef which comes on the side and it reminded me of the curry my family made when I was young. The egg noodles are thin and snappy, great in the light broth and perfect with the protein. The wun-tuns are such a star too with a generous pork & shrimp filling and there are huge pieces of shrimp inside. The corn and chicken dumplings are also great with a lot of flavor and the shitake adds a rich umami taste. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm craving comfort food!

House special wuntun noodle soup 10/10 - wontons are good (sweet and snappy from the shrimp and pork) - love yellow chives - soup is shrimpy and light, not too salty - noodles are al dente and perfect bite Wuntun with stewed beef brisket 9/10 - brisket was not super tender but still good - wontons still better tasting - soup is same as above Shrimp rice rolls 8/10 - expected but not amazing - shrimp wasn't sweet for some reason - their soy sauce is not my fav, I feel like other dimsum places do the sweet braised soy better Chinese donut rice rolls 4/10 - donut was doughy and not crispy - edible but not amazing - again not the biggest fan of their soy sauce HK milk tea 7/10 - solid but not amazing - not too sweet - strong tea flavor but I feel like it's missing a kick - not as creamy as other HK cafes Overall, come here for wonton noodle soup! Everything else was just ok or lack luster. The wait is not too bad. Service was slow...expected and didn't bother me too much till when we had to pay and couldn't flag someone down. Lots of regulars here but also a lot of tourists. I would come back again for just the wonton noodle soup.
Homey and comforting bowl of wonton noodle soup. I ordered the BBQ Pork Wun-Tun Noodle Soup and it was delicious. I liked the texture of the egg noodles and the bowl was filled with lots of BBQ meat and wontons. The BBQ meat was tender and not too sweet which I liked. I also liked the pork and shrimp filling inside the soft wontons which were juicy and good. The broth flavor was light, so I would have preferred a more savory flavor. I also wished the soup came warmer/hotter. My friend and I also shared a Lettuce in Oyster Sauce which was just steamed cabbage with sauce. It was alright, but not necessarily worth the $13 paid for it. The interior is small and the place does get pretty packed. I came with a friend and the staff made us share a table with a stranger which I understand is very Asian-style. However, I'm a bit on the introvert side so it did make the experience a bit awkward which I wasn't the biggest fan of. Regardless, I had a great experience here and would recommend this authentic spot for Cantonese-style noodles.
My wife was craving won ton soup and this place has everything that goes well with wontons. Unfortunately the curry fish balls didn't do it for me. Dumplings were OK but I find it could use more flavors in the filling. Food (3.5 stars) + Wontons are standard and if you don't get the noodles you get 8 pieces which can fill you up + Beef brisket and bbq pork goes well with the soup noodles but they're also standard and nothing overly special + Milk tea is surprisingly good and very refreshing - Curry fish balls should NOT be on the menu even for a $7 appetizer - Cabbage and pork dumplings were served steaming hot which is good but just lacked the flavors I was yearning for Service (4 stars) + English and Chinese fluent that served our food quickly Ambiance (3 stars) + A little nicer than a hole in the wall with bench and standard seating - A little pricey for what we got We actually wanted to go to the sit down full menu location. I wish they differentiate their restaurant names. This is their fast food version and it's standard.
I've been coming here since the 1980's and it's always satisfying. I usually have the won ton with beef stew, without noodles. Also a few orders of dumplings. Service can be a bit rushed, but you are here for the great food. They remodeled and it's much cleaner than it was. A pleasant, quick meal.

The wontons were only okay for me. Nothing special. The portions are big, but they normally are in Chinatown. Green onion pancakes were good, crispy. I liked the spicy dumplings the best - full of flavor with a small kick. They have an upstairs area that you go through the kitchen to access. They accept card. Try Yin Du Wonton, not too much difference from Hon's Wun-Tun and so much cheaper. You can see all the Chinatown locals flock here for their lunch. Cash only though I believe. Smaller menu as well.
went to hon's in a party of 8, the food was very delicious and everyone enjoyed it! the broth was flavorful and wontons were very well cooked. scallion pancakes were my personal favorite appetizer. for service, the food took maybe 20 minutes to arrive - a bit longer than expected for a weekday lunch especially when hoping for a quick turnaround. however, the taste definitely made up for everything! the shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings are super tasty as well. all in all, i would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back!

They were on the fattier side, but the meal was delicious. There's limited seating inside, and it was filled with patrons on a weekday evening. Service was standard for pickup.
It's decent but not sure why so much hoopla and 5-star reviews for a basic noodle shop. I had the bbq pork and won ton noodles. It was fine but I've had the same or better at so many other places. Also did the rice noodles which came with 4 different sauces at the 4 corners of the plate. Ok, but we didn't actually finish it. Service is typical Chinese noodle shop service - just get done. Smaller location so maybe we should try the bigger location next time.
Great wontons, but I might like the broth even more! If I went back I'd probably opt for one of the bowls without the noodles (which were ok but nothing to write home about) so I could get more wontons instead. I also didn't enjoy the braised beef all that much - it was kind of tough. Good service from our main waitress! We'll be back.
During our visit to San Francisco, it's been quite windy. We were craving something warm, so we decided to try this place. It's not a large restaurant, but it has enough seating for small parties. I can see how it might be challenging for groups of six or more to find seating comfortably. We ordered wonton soup and some vegetables. The BBQ pork wonton noodle soup was tasty, but it only came with four wontons. The seaweed and egg wonton soup was perfect and included plenty of wontons. If you prefer wontons over noodles, you might want to order the wonton soup instead of the wonton noodle soup. For vegetables, we had cucumber and lettuce--they were both very flavorful. We'll probably stop by again if we're in the mood for a simple, comforting meal with hot soup.

Hons Wun-Tun House is my go to SF Chinatown restaurant. It is a hidden gem that hits all the right notes for a comforting, no-frills Cantonese meal. The wonton noodle soup is the star - plump dumplings packed with shrimp and pork, swimming in a rich, clear broth with just the right chew on the noodles. Service is quick, portions are generous, and prices are affordable. I would also recommend ordering the scallion pancakes - when I took my mom here she mentioned it was one of the best she's ever had. read more

I appreciate many things about Wun Tun House--truly, the food here is a delight--but there is one caveat. For a party of six, the restaurant automatically includes gratuity. I personally prefer to reward service based on merit: adequate service might earn the standard 15%, while extraordinary care deserves full recognition. That said, the noodles and dumplings here are genuinely exceptional--flavorful, satisfying, and a testament to the high standards required to thrive in Chinatown's fiercely competitive culinary scene. Service is respectable; I came with tempered expectations, knowing that the focus here is on the food. The ambiance adds to the experience: calm, peaceful, and joyful, allowing diners to savor every bite without distraction. Overall, Wun Tun House earns my recommendation--a place where great food and a serene dining atmosphere meet. read more

Came here with a couple of friends and we got the following to share: - stewed beef brisket and wonton noodle soup - green onion pancake (so good my friends ordered another order lol) - curry fish balls Definitely get their wonton noodle soups and green onion pancake! I asked myself if paying $17.95 for a bowl of wonton noodle soup and $20.95 for a beef tendon, wonton, fish ball noodle soup worth it? Yes, only if they tasted good. While the wonton tasted pretty good (well balanced of shrimps and ground pork) but the broth tasted like it was made from MSG or chicken powder. The fish balls tasted like the frozen ones that you can get from the stores. The beef tendon had a sour taste, hopefully it wasn't spoiled. read more

I came here yesterday since I was craving their won ton noodles. This was my first time at this location, but I went to their other location last time. I got their original won ton noodles along with third scallion pancake. The broth of the won ton noodles was absolutely delicious! I also loved the won ton dumplings as well! The scallion pancakes were also incredibly tasty!! The service here was prompt, more so than their other location. Inside was spacious and clean. I highly recommend giving this place a try! You won't regret it. This is the best won ton noodles I've ever had! read more
FOOD ALLERGY WARNING!!! All of the wun-tuns have shrimp. It's a pork and shrimp mix, and it says that on one of the menu items, but (my mistake) I assumed that was a special thing. Ok, with that out of the way, let me tell you about the good. We got seated very quickly and got served almost as soon as we sat down. This is a place that is very small and has a very quick turnaround time, so don't mistake their hustle for impatience, they're very busy. We ordered the shrimp and pork wun tuns (not me) and the curry brisket with wun tuns and noodles. We also ordered pot stickers and a green onion pancake as appetizers. Things here come out as they are ready so things might come out in a different order than what you expect. The wun tuns came out first (thankfully). They looked delicious but I'm allergic to shellfish so I couldn't try them. When the curry brisket came out I noticed that the wun tuns looked the same, and was able to avoid them. The curry brisket was insane delicious. The pit sticker were also great (all pork), but the green onion pancake was so good it dwarfed everything else. I felt bad leaving the noodles and wun tuns, but even if I had been able to eat them I would have been way too full to make an effort. Learn from my mistake and order the other curry brisket entree if you're allergic, but if you aren't, you're gonna enjoy every bite at this place!!!!! (And even if you are a little allergic, it's still fantastic) read more

Pretty authentic! Wait was short though lots of people. There is another branch just around the corner: bigger yet longer waitlst. The wonton soup tastes good, and the wontons and shrimp dumplings were all delicious. Chung fun was good too: just took too long to arrive at table. Ambiance is casual, there is a hidden upstairs with 4 tables. Friendly and quick service staff too. read more

The flavors here were excellent. The service was alright. Every table was filled when I arrived at 1pm on a Wednesday. Not a sit and relax place, more of a eat and go. The A6. Spicy Beef Tripe was really good. Each piece of tripe was coated in the mala spice but it was not too spicy. It had good harmony paired with cilantro. At the end the dish got too oily though. The noodles in the B18. Beef Tendon & Beef Stew were bouncy and chewy, the best texture for these types of noodles. The meat was well marinated. The B9. Snow Cabbage & Shredded Pork Noodle Soup is a classic dish. Noodles were well cooked, the whole dish was perfectly balanced in terms of flavor. The H7. Shepherd Purse Dumplings weren't as juicy or flavorful as I expected. I wouldn't order it again. read more

The dumplings come with 12 hefty pieces and is genuinely a great value for its price. The red bean soup was also delicious, it wasn't too sweet and was a great end note for the meal. My friend and I came in at around 12 and waited about 10 minutes to come in. The place is fairly small and was packed which I think caused the service to be a bit slow. I think it's reasonable for how busy it was though. My one gripe, which is pretty minor, is that the presentation of the food is a bit lacking. (I am editing this review now after seeing the actual mothership restaurant just about 5-6 blocks away from the branch restaurant where we ate. The mothership was in the heart of Chinatown and looked much more welcoming and authentic, and we stopped and watched them fold the dumplings inside their front window. I am going to add a 4th star now.) We came in early, about 5:30 pm for dinner and the place was empty. It was cold and raining and we wanted hot dumpling soup, so we searched YELP and found this place. The ambiance was actually a bit sterile, considering that my favorite Chinese food places are usually a bit "sticky", lol. The customer reviews are not that great, but there were many reviews. I ordered H2, the Sichuan spicy dumplings and a bowl Dumpling Noodle Soup #B3. M wife ordered B12, the BBQ Pork win-tun noodle soup. The hot tea came in pretty neat cups. The food was not very notable quite honestly. But it was hot and hot the spot. Even if I lived in SF, I would probably keep looking for a favorite dumpling spot. read more
Five star for the salted fish fried rice. The best I've ever had. Wonton BBQ pork noodle was just so so even though everybody loves it. It's very Hong Kong style. The green onion pancake was also one of the best. The Shanghai pan fried dumpling not enough juice inside. The fried chicken wing was well loved by my son. HK milk tea was good! I will try the vermicelli bitter melon beef next time and also the fried intestine. read more
Got the braised beef noodles and it started out pretty great but got pretty salty as I progressed. Maybe I needed to mix more as I ate. I haven't been to the original location to compare, but I do work nearby so I may try the other location next time. Regardless, I think if I get some side of veggies like bok choy I'd enjoy it more next time so I will be back for sure! read more

These were hands down the best XLB dumplings I've ever had! My friend and I accidentally went to their sister spot at first realized something was off when we couldn't find the chicken wings on the menu. We asked, and they let us know the main location was just across the park on the corner. Once we got to the right spot, the vibe was an upgrade way busier and more lively. There was a line (definitely the more popular location.) You can even watch them making dumplings through the front window, which was cool. We ended up ordering the chicken wings, fried fish, egg fried rice, and spicy soup dumplings. Everything was so good. Honestly, our only regret was not trying more of the dumpling options. They did forget our fried dumplings, but by then we were so full we couldn't have eaten another bite anyway. We're definitely coming back because the soups being served around us looked amazing! read more

There's another location two blocks down that is apparently more crowded but has a more extensive menu, so my friend and I came here instead to catch up over Cantonese food! Their wontons were delicious! Pan fried onion pancake was crispy and delicious. I liked that it wasn't too salty and perfectly crispy. Ordered the vegetarian dumplings and scallion pancakes. Dumplings were just ok. I like that they had quite a bit of filling but wasn't flavorful on its on. Used the included dipping sauce, which was extremely salty. The scallion pancakes were good but seemed like they deep fried it! The inside was a bit doughy but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way? Anyways it was still good and I liked it better than the dumplings. ETA: I ate the leftover dumplings today and actually, they were quite good! I changed my rating to 4 stars. If I were to come back to this pace, I'd get them again! read more
