Good food; nothing unique, but tasty. My only issue was that we had to wait 15 minutes before we even received menus, when they were not even busy! We had to flag the waiter down and did not even offer an apology. Unfriendly and slow service. We're Waiohai owners and have watched the Honu Bar go downhill for the last several years. Table service is a joke, the quality of the food served is bottom shelf at best, and the prices are a joke ($23 for 2 crappy fish tacos? Get real). It's still a great place to sit and whale watch (in season) but do yourself a favor and skip the food. You'll pay enough for the drinks as it is. Want good beach bar food? Honu Bar is sub par at best. The menu is very limited offering mostly sandwiches and burger averaging about $17. They also only come with Maui chips, not fries. We were so disappointed in the lack of options and what you get for the price that we didn't even order food. We did order two drinks, both mango daiquiris for $8 a piece. Not necessarily a great price for happy hour but not surprising for a hotel bar either. We honestly questioned whether or not they even had alcohol. They tasted like a mango smoothie, which was tasty but not sure if it was worth the $8. Our waiter was nice but definitely kept things short and sweet and we had to wave him down to get our ticket. The only pros of this restaurant are the views of Poipu beach. It is beautiful and that is what you are paying for. Unless you only care about the view, I would suggest skipping this place! read more

Came here for lunch while spending the day at the beach. My husband got the pork sandwich and said it was good. The fish tacos were pretty awful. The fish was way over cooked and didn't taste fresh. The pineapple salsa seemed like it was made from canned pineapple and the entire thing was a wet soggy mess that I couldn't finish. The garlic fries had good flavors but again, super soggy. Best happy hour in all the islands! Well that's how we felt. We were staying next door, and had to walk a little bit through the beach to get over here, but we did it almost everynight.lol. That's saying something. We loved the fact the tables were so close to the sidewalk, which is so close to the beach. We would often snorkel at Poipu Beach, then shower off and go straight to the bar or get a drink. They have happy hour from 2-6 with $8 Mai Tais which are super strong! I swear one is good enough, two and the party has started. Never did make it to three.lol. Normally they are $12 so good discount on HH. Overall this was our go to spot during our week on Kauai. Amazing view, beach, I'm sure I saw a Monk seal swimming in the water while sitting at a table too. Check this place out if you are in Poipu. read more

We were at the Marriott Waihoai for a week so ate at the Honu bar several times. I was generally under whelmed. The pork nachos and Marriot burger were the best on the menu and the Mai Tais are good but seemed expensive...even at happy hour. Also, food isn't a part of happy hour so...that wasn't very happy. On the plus side, you can't beat the beach seating or view, it's location is fabulous. read more

My husband's chicken ceasar reminded him of hospital served food , with the dressing and crutons both served in a bag/pouch. My fish pita was just ok. Food is mediocre, nothing to write home about. I had the teriyaki chicken sandwich. The grilled chicken was moist and overall it was just as expected. The tomato that was included was the top with the stem end, would think for $15-16 per meal you would leave that off. Came with chips, no fries or other sides. In my opinion, very overpriced for the quality of the meal. Menu is very limited and the place closes at 7:30PM. Never again. We stayed at Marriott Waiohai Beach Club for a week, and fresh off the plane we wanted to grab a bite. The view is very nice, and everyone was tired after the long flight. Food was overpriced, everything was served on bamboo dim sum trays, at first i thought it was kind of neat, but then i realized it was because they didn't want to wash dishes, which was made apparent by the plastic utensils and disposable 'plates'. Food was overpriced, i got the poke, hey when you're in Hawaii, you eat poke. It was a small tray of rice with a couple of sad looking pieces of soy sauced tuna on it. Our whole party was disappointed with their food. The food took a while to get here, but we didn't mind since we had an awesome view. You can't beat the view, but you can always enjoy the view on a lounging chair, not pay $120 for lunch for 4 adults with cafeteria style food. read more

Best happy hour place on Kauai! This is right on Poipu Beach, it is also located right in front of the marriott. They are very welcoming there. You don't need to be staying at the Marriott to go there. The appetizers are awesome! Frozen drinks are a must! And the only other thing we did was the Honu Burger for dinner one night... Amazing!!!!! It is right on the water/ beach. Beautiful sunset. Bathing suits are more than appropriate attire. They have live music at happy hour! read more

Come for happy hour!! This is a great little hotel bar looking over poipu beach, sleeping monk seals, and has all the classic hawaiann cocktails on for happy hour @ $8. For what it is: a very casual, beach side grill with limited menu, it does just what it's supposed to. We had a delicious Kalua pulled pork sandwich and a great Marriott bacon cheeseburger. Prompt, friendly service and an awesome view. Beautiful setting overlooking the beach! I had sugar shrimp and pineapple skewers and they were amazing. Wife had fish tacos and they were great, the sauce is unreal and I would drink it if I could. Had a great selection of kona beers. They brought out a giant platter of fries for the kids and the staff was very friendly! Nothing special. As far as a place to hang out and have expensive drinks, it's fine if you are okay with that. There are great views and scenery from this place. But that's about it. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad. What I got was a bowl with what was pretty much a salad kit you buy at the grocery store dumped into a bowl with an overcooked chicken breast on top. The croutons and salad dressing were still in the plastic packaging it came from when served. So, I basically had to make the salad myself. All this magic for $14 when I could have gotten the same for $3 at the grocery store in a plastic package. And for some reason, the meal another person in my party ordered was in a to-go, awkward, plastic container. Even though it wasn't requested to be. When it was brought to the table, the waitress just said, "for some reason, the cook packaged it this way". No bother fixing the problem or even just transferring it to a real bowl. Just here you go, it's to-go now. If all you want are expensive drinks and nice place to sit...this place is your place. Otherwise, move on. read more

The waiter was standing around talking to other waiters at the bar and cared less if we were ok. Never came to fill up water, didn't ask about our meal, and zero personality.
