Seriously, my wife and I came here at 7am on Saturday morning and it was a packed house. We didn't wait long, we got in pretty fast, they did a good job of clearing tables. My wife ordered a Two Eggs and Spicy Chorizo, with Ranch Potatoes as her side. She loved the meal! I ordered the Biscuit and Gravy with a side of Potatoes. I'm not sure what I did differently but my potatoes were plain and my wife's had onion and peppers. My Biscuits and Gravy were good, I was just bummed about potatoes being plain. While some may think of the Colts or Indiana University, I think of the TV show, The Middle. "Out here in The Middle..." Anyways, back to stuff pertaining to this review. We came here for brunch on Saturday and it was relatively enjoyable --- it would have been more enjoyable had there been an option for mimosas! This place isn't glamorous but boy does it have a following. We waited about 15 minutes for a table and there was a constant line the whole time we were eating. The two of us ordered Florentine Benedict, a full order of Biscuits and Gravy, and French Toast with Eggs. I know, I know... three entrees for two people? Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs but we were full all day and ate broccoli with ranch for dinner to make up the calorie-intake! So on my fork was one of the benedicts [I like to share], one of the biscuits with gravy [two biscuits in a full order], and majority of the potatoes that came with the egg benedicts. The verdict? Delicious! I was especially enamored by the perfectly seasoned gravy and the fluffiness of the potatoes. My one complaint was that the spinach in my benedict looked a bit old [take a look at my pictures and you'll see an ugly dead leaf] and was a tad on the greasier side. I suppose I could of used more hollandaise too but that's because I'm a fattie. All in all, I'm glad I saw Kate M. popping in here this week since her check-in spurred me to finally give this place a try. Kinda busy and slow upon entry, but service was prompt and the noise level soon dropped as the "old men's clubs" gradually departed. Okay, jk, but there were several groups of older men here today. I noticed on the menu that the corn cake is a Midwest favorite. I've never had it and ftm, I had never heard of it before either. So after a few questions I decide to give it a try. I'll preface the rest and simply say I'm not gonna order it again. It was, um, well it was just bland. I couldn't figure out how to enhance it (butter, syrup, bacon, salt, catsup, etc.) so it had some appeal. Yeah sure, maybe it's something you grew up with and you developed a taste for it but to me it was little more than being totally non-descript. So unless you're a fan, I recommend that you stick with the more traditional items on the menu. Biscuits and gravy -good Waffles - good Chicken fried steak - good Hash browns - good Coke products -works for me Food has been consistent, served in less than ten minutes. Service every time I have been here has been what I would call ideal. Friendly, prompt, attentive but without hovering. And kudos to the owner who came out to chat with me when I had a thousand questions. He was kind enough to give me the low down on the Midwest favorite. Super cute cafe. Indiana themed. The staff is friendly and prompt. Sunday morning was pretty busy but only about a 10 minute wait. The coffee is ok, typical cafe standard. The portions are large. Tried Hoosier Cafe for the first time and was pleased with the overall breakfast experience. Ample private parking and seating within the restaurant. The wait wasn't too long for a weekend morning. I ordered the short stack pancakes and coffee. Great taste and decent portion for a short stack. There are private bathrooms which is a plus, and the women's restroom had a changing table. They got our drink order right away and our service was overall great and friendly. Would come here again. The waitress also suggested several items like the Denver omelet or anything on the griddle menu. read more

I typically do not take the time to write reviews but felt it was important to do so today. I eat at Hoosier Cafe on average twice a month. I went early this morning for breakfast and they seemed unusually busy. I ordered the chicken fried skillet which is always good. The service was stellar. The waitress greeted me with a smile. I never once had to ask to have my coffee refilled. The food was prepared exactly as I ordered it and was delicious. I am a fussy customer and the staff always leaves me wanting to return. I took some friends who are from Indiana to Hoosiers Cafe today and it was such a disappointment. From the moment we were finally seated we did nothing but wait. It took at least 10 minutes for our waitress to come take our order, and then once she finally did, it was at least 40 minutes before our food was brought to the table. The server acted like this was normal, but I have been to the restaurant before and it never took that long to be served. The food was mediocre at best and our waitress left a lot to be desired. We will never be going back and I don't think the establishment even cares. read more

We have driven past this place for years and never stopped by. This year we stopped in for breakfast for my birthday! It was quickly put on the list as one of our favorites. We've been back again cents. The omelette was amazing. The egg scramble, potatoes and biscuits and gravy were delicious. The kids ordered pancakes and they were bigger than their heads! The wait staff was awesome. It's enjoyable when you see so many staff members that care about the customer the way that they did. My waitress was engaging and attentive, kept my coffee hot, and was always making sure things were good. Entertaining too. That's always a plus. Now for the actual food, it was okay, at best. I got a spicy chicken strip sandwich. A signature piece on their menu. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The chicken was a over breaded and fried. Very hard to cut through. The eggs as gravy were good, but not much gravy, a little disappointing. I was up sold on adding peppers and cheese to my potatoes, and that was good. Overall, for the price, it should have been amazing. All in all, breakfast sandwich, coffee and tip, $25.00. That's pretty darn steep for just a breakfast Sandwich and coffee. Would I go back, I might, but because it the price, more likely no. The prices are tough, like the chicken. Service was stellar, hostess, server, cashier, 5 stars all the way. Overall, I really like Hoosier. The servers are all really great, especially Lindsay. The portion sizes are great. Most of the food we've had there is great, except for the breakfast burrito which could definitely be better. I am absolutely love their club sandwich and their salads. For lunch they offer sides which includes soup. Of the many times I've been there they have only had soup once, which is really disappointing, especially considering the one time we had the soup it was absolutely wonderful. I am from the Midwest as well, Chicago, and am always looking for good Midwestern style diners in Arizona. They are so hard to find. The one thing that I am really missing that Hoosier does not have is open-faced hot turkey or hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. I also love gravy on my fries. Please start making gravy for us midwesterners. My daughter and I met Santa there last Christmas as well and it was awesome to see everyone gathered around him, so sweet. This place is awesome for breakfast! They have enormous portions and it's all tasty. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon and sausage were cooked well and flavorful. All egg plates can come with a side of delicious biscuits and gravy as well. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes breakfast and no joke..the pancakes were the size of my head..and there were two of them! They were light and fluffy and seriously good! By far the worst experience at a breakfast place. Our 1 single order of biscuits and gravy took 45 minutes, we watched other people that arrived after us being served. After our server apologized for the long wait and voided our bill, we still got charged! We asked to speak with the manager and he couldn't be more of an asshole. If you're not willing to accept criticism and hold your server's word after a bad service, don't be in this industry. There are much better places out there! p.s.: the food is low level quality and you're better off making eggs at home or going to Harlow's. Your response is dishonest and a clear attempt to distort facts. You're a man that can't control your temper but it's in a position of power as owner/manager. No one treated your staff badly, you're the one that actually refused to hold your staffs word, which was to void the bill. Your "never come back response" was due to your distaste for OUR honest response for your lack of great service. I'm so very disappointed in this neighborhood restaurant! I ordered chicken and waffles at lunchtime on a Saturday. Although my order came out quickly the food was tepid at best. My waffle was so cool it didn't even melt the whipped butter served with it. The maple syrup was warmer than either the chicken or waffle. My server did not check back with me after leaving my food and the check. I really like supporting local businesses but I won't be back. read more
