We have ordered take-out from Hop Shing for many years - probably 20+ - and, until our most recent order, have always been pleased with the quality of every dish. In the past, we have enjoyed the golden egg rolls, shreds of lettuce showing; beautiful white rice, packed in white cartons; perfectly prepared vegetables and meat. Last week, the egg rolls were dark and hard - both outside and in. The rice - dry and yellow...like instant rice...was served under the sweet and sour pork, which was tough and unpleasant. We tried it today at 4 pm for the first time. Honestly, I wish we had not. My wife had the sesame chicken that was not edible, it was overcooked, old, tasted funny, and was served cold. I had the Terryaki chicken, which had no taste and was more like old red chicken jerky on a stick, the fried rice was steamed rice served soggy, and the egg rolls were oily and soggy. This Chinese slop is a crime against the industry. We barely ate any of it, tossed it out, would not even feed it to our dog, and we both love Chinese food, but this was bad stuff. I can only recommend this place to my enemies. It was $21.00 bucks, so, we had that one coming. This is the first time in my life I left an eggroll uneaten. We got what we paid for, bad food served cold, and $21.00 bucks of garbage. I hope we don't get sick. It was that bad. It tasted bad, to no taste at all--my opinion. We've attempted to get food from here twice now. The first time, the food here is not good at all. We are new to the area and were looking for a good Chinese restaurant. It's not flavorful at all and a disappointment. The second time, we ordered online and went in for pickup. Great little spot for all your Chinese favorites. This little gem is next door to Brews, another favorite business of mine. Hop Shing does not deliver, but it is certainly worth the pick-up/take-out they offer. I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, a favorite of mine. The texture was perfect and the portion size just right. The price was $7.50 for the large and definitely had plenty for two. I also got the spring rolls and they were also perfect. Overall, a great spot for take-out on one of your next Netflix and Chill nights. I highly recommend Hop Shing over its nearest competitor, Choi Chinese Drive-thru on Mayport road. I ordered the pu-pu player, and while the quantity of food was great, the foods itself was terrible. Everything was over fried. This was the worst food I have ever received from a restaurant. I ordered the House Fried Rice and the shrimp had a really off / not shrimp taste, like they had been soaked in a disinfectant or something. The pork tasted like it was old / turned. DO NOT EAT HERE. If I could give this place zero stars I would! The first time I ate here I wasn't that impressed. So I decided to try it again. HUGE mistake. My daughter got the chicken lomein and it was definitely off! It tasted old and rotten. She immediately started feeling sick! 3/4 through my lunch I found what looked like a piece of a Jelly Fish. I took the plates back up to the counter (we ate there) and expressed my concern. She tried to tell me that the "jelly like" substance was normal, and that it was the cornstarch that had solidified! Gross!!!! Then she said that she would only refund me for one lunch since I had eaten half my lunch, which was incorrect. Finally she said she would give me a refund for half my lunch.
