Short ribs
Kristy K.

Finally tried dimsum at Hong Kong Bistro. The place was pretty empty but it was a rainy Wednesday. Straight to the point service, which I am ok with. We always had water in our cups and the food came out quickly and very hot. Tried the short ribs, eggplant with shrimp, sesame balls, steamed pork buns, beef rice roll and pork rice roll. Sesame balls and eggplant were perfect! Short ribs were a bit chewy but with very good flavor. The meat in the rice rolls was maybe a bit overcooked/dry but the rolls and sauce were good enough to compensate. This is a strip mall so parking is very easy here. Would return!

Sunday Dim Sum. Yes they have the carts that come around table and you can pick your choices, large lazy Susan on table - good selection and variety. You can also order from menu as we did with Singapore span fried noodles Party of 6 and all enjoyed. Good crowd with nice large tables - Items were hot and fresh as they refill the carts. Good crowd -

I really enjoyed this dim sum spot!! Everything was delicious. And I miss going to a spot that still has the carts. Good service and the carts are always coming around. They had a great variety of food. Only thing is the pan-fried noodles had too much sauce so the noodles weren't crunchy. Overall, great spot for a group!

We came in for a late lunch and it was completely empty. Salt and pepper shrimp was definitely worth trying and I would come back for that. Everything we had was good. I was surprised how simple yet delicious the scallop fried was. It was good with just egg white in the fried rice. My only complaint was the speed of service. I felt like being 1 of 2-3 tables, we waited for a while for our food and drinks to be refilled.

Awesome Dim Sum. Very Authentic. We had several dishes. We went there specifically for Dim Sum and it was Absolutely Worth It.

Spacious restaurant with lots of parking . I loved the dim sum carts. The food was delicious and selection plentiful. The service was excellent.

It was good, but a bit pricier than a Tim Wah or Yand R. Did very much like the win ton soup and also the shu Mai , and the sauces were good. The shrimp balls were crispy, but everything else was just ok. $80 for lunch was a bit high.

This place has been consistently on spot for me since opening. The service is very good and the food is great! Ambience is chill and family oriented, with several items on the menu that are family style. We ordered the snow pea leaf with garlic sauce. It's like cooked spinach but chewy stalks. The short ribs are delicious and tender. The sauce is great on rice. We also had the half roasted duck .Amazing every time!!! Highly recommend

Was craving Chinese so we stopped by to grab some takeout for lunch. We got House Special Fried Rice, Beef Chow Fun, Wonton Noodle Soup, Chicken Feet, and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice. It was our first experience at Hong Kong Bistro and we were not disappointed. The chow fun and the fried rice had great "wok hei", which gives the dishes a distinctive smoky, charred aroma, and flavor from the hot wok. It's prized in Cantonese cooking and a good restaurant knows this. Their portions are large enough to share and delicious.

We ordered a variety of things to be picked up about 30 minutes later. It was impressive that they even called us back after we placed the order because they were unable to prepare one of the entrees we ordered so we selected an alternate item. It was great that they cared to find an alternate entree. We arrived and our order was ready when promised. Everything was delicious, enough so that I failed to take any pics of the food!

We were in town with my son for college so we saw it and just trying it out! We were early around 1130 or so, it was not too busy! We were able to order a few dim sum items and beef chow fun. Overall the food is very good The rice noodle dish is ok it is a little thick than I expected!! The server is attentive and friendly The location is older style but clean overall!

The food was very good, my new favorite restaurant for Chinese. The portions are family size so plan on sharing and bringing home the leftovers

I've ordered from Hong Kong Bistro twice, once for dim sum and once for their regular menu. I've been struggling to find good dim sum in Jacksonville, having just moved here from a much bigger and more diverse city. I was recommended Hong Kong Bistro but was skeptical because I tried their Beef Chow Fun and thought it was acceptable but was average in taste. Their dim sum though, is probably the best I've had in Jacksonville so far, it still falls apart a little bit but overall hits the spot. Would definitely recommend.

Lucky Cat Dim Sum has accomplished something that many restaurants attempt and few pull off. It…read morerespects tradition without being trapped by it. Tucked away off Old St. Augustine Road in Mandarin, Lucky Cat Dim Sum serves some of the freshest dim sum in Jacksonville. Everything arrived steaming hot, a small detail that makes a big difference. Dim sum is meant to be eaten fresh from the basket, not after a leisurely stroll around the dining room. The classics were all excellent. The chicken shu mai were substantial, flavorful, and held together beautifully. The black pepper beef short ribs were fall-apart tender. The fried shrimp balls delivered the kind of crunch that announces itself before the flavor arrives. The barbecue pork bun was pillowy soft and packed with a sweet-savory filling that lingered long after the last bite. Dessert was equally successful. The mango mochi had the ideal chew and was loaded with chunks of ripe mango. The taro Lucky Cat bun, shaped like the restaurant's mascot, could have coasted on appearance alone. Instead, the filling was smooth, lightly sweet, and thoughtfully restrained. What separates Lucky Cat from every other dim sum restaurant in Jacksonville is its willingness to have fun. The menu is filled with East-meets-West creations that could easily become gimmicks in less capable hands. Everything Bagel Buns, Buffalo Chicken Buns, and other familiar flavors offer diners an approachable gateway into the world of dim sum. The standout was the Cheeseburger Shu Mai. It sounds like the sort of thing that should fail spectacularly. Instead, it works. Seasoned ground beef wrapped in a delicate shu mai wrapper and topped with melted cheese. The beef carried a bold Cajun kick, the cheese added richness, and somehow the whole thing remained balanced. It tasted far bigger than a single bite had any right to. I've eaten at every dim sum restaurant Jacksonville has to offer, and Lucky Cat stands at the top of the list. It delivers the classics with confidence while bringing enough creativity to keep even seasoned dim sum fans interested. The best dim sum in Jacksonville, and one of the most enjoyable meals you'll find anywhere in the city.

The servers are consistently friendly and welcoming, and while the atmosphere isn't fancy, that's part of the charm. Just great food, great service, and a place you'll find yourself craving again and again.

I always order a lot of dishes because I like what I like and I also know I'll have leftovers. I sent back the pan fried taro pudding because it was so bland and it didn't have many of the main ingredients in it. If it were there, it was so skimpy I didn't find any. (The Chinese sausage and dried shrimp) The pain fries soy sauce noodles were overcooked. It's suppose to be pan fried and it was not. Also very skimpy on the black mushrooms. Not very flavorful. The Steamed shrimp dumplings were mediocre. The skin was gummy and fell apart. The shrimp filling wasn't too bad. The shrimp with rice pasta was probably the best dish there. But it was still lacking in flavor. The steamed ribs with black bean sauce was very bland. The ribs were tough and tasteless. The braised chicken feet were over cooked. The texture was horrible like eating mush. The flavors were also off. The egg tarts looked good but the flavors again were off. Borderline going bad. It had that slight aftertaste of sourness. The shell was also flavorless. The BBQ pork buns were also disappointing. The ratio of bread to filling was off. Very small amount. But I was a little happy this happened because the filling didn't taste good at all. The hot tea was also disappointing. I always order jasmine tea when having dim sum. They used a low quality tea bag instead of real loose jasmine tea leaves which also includes the flowers. No fragrance at all of Jasmine tea. Needless to say, I will not be going back on my next visit. It was very expensive for what they give you. Especially since the food was so bad. I gave it two stars because the service was very good and the view was decent. I am Chinese... born in Hong Kong. So I know what dim sum should taste like. I wish I had seen the review that had a photo of the salt and pepper shrimp before I went because I would not have gone. Their salt and pepper shrimp is not authentic and I would have not gone and saved myself $80 for my lunch.

They're at 10586 Old St Augustine Road in Mandarin with a nice size parking lot so their location is great and parking isn't a concern. I'll get to the food in a minute but I'll start by saying that before we opened our fortune cookies at the end, I jokingly said "I hope one of these says 'you will get your original Facebook account back". They didn't say that but I included a photo of both because I feel like they're close enough As far as food goes, we split the Peony Sampler for an appetizer and loved it. It definitely did it's job as a sampler because now we know we like all of their appetizers and would order any of them on their own in the future. I ordered Egg Drop Soup after that because it's a favorite of mine. I always add a little salt to their version of it but I add salt to a lot of soups so that may just be a "me" thing. I had the Sweet & Sour Pork with Fried Rice for my entree, which is the same things had last time and it's still great. Between the appetizer and the soup and the entree, I was hoping to have enough to take home for lunch tomorrow and I definitely did. My wife had the General Chicken. She really liked the sauce because it was sweet but has a little bit of spicy kick to it. She said the same thing I said about the chicken itself; she loved that it was big pieces of juicy white meat. She was also surprised by how much she liked the broccoli which made for one of those things where you could get a bite of everything at once. She also had a lot to take home, so she's happy with that too. Thank you again to the person who posted about Peony in the group recently. We had a great lunch thanks to your reminder.

We started with the edamame, with the sea salt and truffle oil, which is always delicious. The service over the evening was very slow, and we spent a lot of time waiting on food. We sat in our favorite spot at the bar window so our server also appeared the be working behind the bar and was busy making drinks. We love sake and usually get a bottle of the Noble Arrow. We asked for a recommendation and the server recommended the Soul of the Sensei, which is $107 for the bottle. We were celebrating our 24th anniversary so we went for it. He said it was on the dry side, but we found it very unexpectedly sweet, almost like a moskato wine. It wasn't surprising when we read the back of the label and saw the flavor profile was all the way on the fruity side, with notes of Muscat grape. We definitely made a mistake by not tasting it first, so we ended up asking for a bag to take it home and ordered 2 glasses of the Noble Arrow. It was a disappointing start. Next we ordered the yellowtail carpaccio, which was very good, although the size of the fish pieces overall seemed smaller than usual. Everything we ordered over the evening was undeniably tasty, but small. We got the Usuzukuri salmon and when they brought it, they had the tuna carpaccio as well. The person who brought it said it was a gift. Later, we were charged $2 on the bill for the "gift." It's not much, but it's just that giving us a gift and then putting a charge on the bill for it was very strange. Overall, I still love the food at O-Ku, but this was not the best experience. We had gone there previously for our anniversary and they made it feel special. This time there wasn't any kind of recognition besides possibly the "gift" we had to pay extra for. And the service was so slow that we ended up drinking the bottle of sake we didn't like rather than waiting for another drink order. Every place will have its off nights, and this unfortunately seemed to be one of them. I would still recommend going there, because even though the portions are tiny and expensive, the taste is delicious.
