The staff is very friendly and it seems like most really enjoy their jobs. That is a huge plus if the other issues can be fixed. The food was decent. The oil in the fryer tasted old and possibly burnt, so the cod wasn't that cod and slightly overcooked. The coleslaw was tasteless. The house salad was a good mix and cold. They have a nice selection of spirits and have a happy hour from 9 to close. The ambience is that of just about every other gastro pub. They have enough TVs if that's what you're seeking. It's hard to find a good salad in Gig Harbor. Hops n Drops' menu is surprisingly diverse and has some good salad options. Their food is consistently decent and the service is always good. The ambience is a bit on the dreary side, but it doesn't keep us from going there. read more

My wife and I ate here yesterday with 4 other couples. It is one of our favorite restaurants. They have an interesting menu. I had the shrimp "po boy" and she had the buffalo chicken wrap. Both were excellent! The buffalo wrap was a little too spicy but it was true to the name. There was plenty of shrimp on my sandwich and it was very tasty. The service was outstanding. We ask for checks by couple and our server provided them with no problem. Look forward to trying some of the other entries. read more

Very disappointed with this place. I had high hopes that were not met. First off, I had the IPA. Now, I didnt see a beer menu at all. There was a menu for all the various Mojitos, etc., but not the beers. That was strange to me. Wife had a mojito that was ok. My beer was awful. Didn't finish which is NOT me. My wife had a flatbread, she rated it as "ok." I had the smashburger that was not a smashburger. It was an ok hamburger, but it was by no means a smashburger. Homemade chips were great, the star of the mediocre show. We had our pup with us and had to sit in the back, which is fine, but the furniture was cheap plastic, no water for the doggo. As I was walking up an employee opened the door for me and I was welcomed into the restaurant. How pleasant! When I was looking over the menu, the party behind me was seated and the server already knew what they wanted before they even said anything and they talked about all the different dishes they have tried and loved. It felt very friendly and comforting that regulars were so familiar with the staff and menu. The server was very helpful with recommendations and I asked for their best dish that I just had to try, and she said they are known for their burgers and recommended the Black and Blue Burger. To lighten it up, I also thought I'd try the Chicken and Avocado salad. The burger was excellent. Just the right amount of blue cheese, a fun crunch of the fried onions, and the beef was juicy and not over cooked. But my favorite was the bread! Or lack of! The bread had enough structure and was substantial enough to keep the burger together but thin so it didn't take away from the goodies inside. The entire burger was very well balanced. I appreciated the in-house made chips that they were fresh, and not drenched in salt. They came with a delightful garlic ranch dip to add that salt kick if wanted. The salad was also a winner. They make the avocado dressing fresh and on the this chicken breast it was delicious. It was a bit high in price at $12.50 for a half salad, but It was a great salad and would order again. I also paid with a portable machine they bring to the table which I Soooooo appreciate instead of them taking your card from you. We tried to order takeout twice from this place. Food was okay, but unfortunately, they did not have the orders ready, and the person at the front didn't notice when they brought our order out. We could see an order sitting there, with others. After watching the young lady deliver the other bags and leave ours sitting there ... we called. And she says "oh it just came out" and picked up the bag we saw sitting there for five minutes. Very frustrating. Will not order here again. It happened the SAME WAY TWICE. read more

My second time here... This time they had just opened, it was empty based on the time of the day; I guess, so I decided to sit at the bar. My bartender was very friendly and service overall was very good, actually both times I have been here service was very good. Food has been good as well. I had a salad, yeah boring, the first time and it was actually very good. This time I decided to try a burger, the guacamole burger and onion rings. The burger was good, it would have been better if it had been cooked medium, but I am assuming since this is a chain they cook to well to ensure food safety. Usually you cannot mess up fried food unless you overcook or over-salt. The onion rings were definitely over-salted, but still good enough to finish. Hopefully, this was just an overzealous cook. Breakfast menu looks promising, so I will have to come back and check them out again. Overall, a good addition to the Harbor. read more

So awesome to finally get a Hop Jacks on this side of the bridge! And just as I had hoped, it doesn't disappoint. We just stumbled on it today while on the way to Fred Meyer and decided to stop in for lunch. We started with their Classic Margarita and I have to say it was one of the best around. Plenty of zing, not too much sweet, and perfectly salted rim. For our starter, we went with the French Onion Soup to share. Nice large serving, with three cheese bread triangles to dunk. The flavors were spot on, the croutes were perfectly floating in the soup, with just the right amount of cheese on top. Flavors were all very well blended and it was served piping hot. I ordered the Patty Melt (we share everything of course) and Anne ordered the California Turkey Sandwich. The Patty Melt was just amazing - perfectly grilled on thick-sliced 9-grain bread, with just the right sear to it. The meat patty inside was combined with perfectly caramelized onions and a light dose of cheese. Whatever they're using for seasoning in the meat, they have it dialed in really well. Not exactly "diet food" but worth the indulgence in every way. The California Turkey was on the other side of the "light / heavy" spectrum, and also served on toasted 9-grain bread. Almost 1 inch of thinly sliced turkey, a thin slice of Provolone cheese, red onion slices, lettuce and tomato, all combined with a little avocado spread and a slice of bacon all make for a pretty amazing Turkey sandwich. Great lunch - and we'll be back. You just can't go wrong there I don't think. read more

Hop Jacks - welcome to Gig Harbor! First time I have been to one of these restaurants. This is the second day they have been open in the Harbor so we decided to check it out. We were greeted with friendly service and they sat us quickly. Cool that they have a lot of big screen TVs placed to watch sports. The Mariners were playing so that was a bonus. First - I want to say our server was pretty good. Her name was Tanya and I felt her pain as she was forced to repeatedly apologize for not only bad cooking, but for bad management, as well. Tanya did nothing wrong, except have poor support from her management and terrible cooks. There were 4 of us and we were seated promptly. Table was clean, ambience was fine. Not great, not terrible - pretty normal for a pub-style restaurant. We ordered a side of onion rings; they were okay. The food order was as follows - Mac N Cheese with Bacon, Guacamole Burger, Triple Threat Crispy Chicken, and the new Sweet and Spicy Burger. The 1st problem came in when a bite was attempted of the Sweet and Spicy Burger. There was a hair imbedded in the sandwich and it was sticking out of the side. By imbedded, I mean one part of the hair was cooked right into the cheese inside the sandwich. You could pull on the hair and it wouldn't move. It wasn't a small hair either, nor was a stray cat or dog hair. It was clearly a human hair that was deeply stuck inside the sandwich. It was presented to the server who apologized profusely and offered to remake the sandwich. The burger was exchanged for chicken strips to alleviate the chances of another hair. The 2nd problem came in when a bite was taken out of the Triple Threat Chicken sandwich. An entire piece of wax paper had been left INSIDE the sandwich. The person who took a bite actually bit into the paper and then had to pull it out of their mouth. It wasn't a small piece of paper. It was the exact shape and size of the wax paper they use to separate slices of cheese. The cook couldn't even be bothered to REMOVE the paper after putting it on the sandwich. This was brought to the attention of the server, who was once again stuck apologizing for incredibly bad cooking and verified it was indeed the wax paper used to separate cheese. The 3rd problem happened when trying to attempt a bite of the Guacamole burger. It was so incredibly well done it was almost impossible to cut. We didn't even bother trying to say anything about this, because by this time, to be quite honest, we were pretty fed up with the entire situation. At this point in time the server told us she was going to have the manager come and speak to us, to reassure us, to make sure everything had been handled to satisfaction. The new chicken strips were received. The newly re-made chicken sandwich was received. The manager never showed. The server came around and told us the manager would be with us soon. We finished the chicken strips. We finished the 2nd chicken sandwich. All our drinks were finished. The manager still hadn't shown. We asked for the bill. It was explained that the manager was just TOO BUSY to speak to us. We paid the bill and left. So, to sum it up. The food served was some of the worst possible food that could come out of a kitchen. One entree had hair embedded inside the sandwich that was clearly visible. Another entree left the kitchen with dangerous choking hazard left inside the sandwich - the wax paper. It was very, very lucky the paper was noticed before being chewed and attempting to swallow it. The 3rd entree was so overcooked it was almost inedible. (The mac N cheese was fine.) The most egregious - the manager never even bothered to speak with us. This is completely unacceptable from any manager, of any restaurant, ever. EVER. I don't care how busy or how short-handed a restaurant is, when a problem like this comes up, the MANAGER shows up. That's their job. We had SEVERE problems with our food, not little piddly things like "oh, I asked for no tomatoes and there is tomatoes" or "my fries were lukewarm". Our food was presented with HAIR and choking hazards and the manager could not care less. read more

I would prefer that instead of voicing your pleasure at the compliment, that you look around to see what is a more reasonable price for your bar drinks so that we could afford to come back and enjoy another one of those salads instead of charging us an hour's wages for a drink that's not that special. Always enjoyed the food and service has been very good. Today as we have done many times, we came to celebrate my daughter's birthday and again as we have done before, brought a small cake to share after lunch. The manager came right over after we were seated and said "I see you are celebrating a birthday but you cannot do the cake, no outside food allowed" and then just walked away. Super disappointing and will be our last trip. Service was good but the manager needs to be taught customer service. Unfortunately left a stain on the celebration. I've been to a few Hops N Drop locations through the years. The tator tots at this location were the best. Husband and I both ordered Patty Melts. The rest of our group ordered various burger s from the menu. While our patty melts were flavorful, we were disappointed that the burger on our patty melts were extremely small compared to the burgers our friends ordered. They need to improve the size of the burger on the patty melts. Patty Melt was tasty but WAY to much bread over burger. Wait staff was good. Not sure if we would return. read more

The first time visiting was a week prior to the second time, and the review is a mix of both experiences. The first time was with a large group (5-10 people). The waitress who took care of us, had it under control. Waters, silverware and menus available as soon as we sat down. She went around the table taking orders and combining tickets of those who wanted to share. She did this by "name of the guest" responsible for the bill. Food was delivered timely and hot! This was one of the best Eggs Benedict" breakfasts I have had in a long while. The smashed potatoes came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. The bills came when asked for and they were accurate! Great experience! The second time visiting, a week later...Same large group (7-14). The waitress was NOT prepared for our group. It is my understanding this group is here weekly. They sit in the same location each time and the staff usually has the tables pushed together when we arrive. It seemed to take longer than usual to have us all seated. Getting a simple glass of water was nearly as impossible as getting silverware. The menus were shared between us all and at one point one person from the group went and got extras from the kiosk. Ordering was painful. Instead of mimicking the experience before, she insisted on moving the guests around to sit "beside" the person they were sharing with. Ridiculous. The orders were all taken at one time, they were delivered to the table in random order, several of the orders were not as ordered (no tomatoes, extra gravy, split in half, extra plate). Getting a refill on coffee, water, tea and soda was nearly impossible. I cannot speak for the rest of the group (however there were many complaints about this service) I can speak to my own disappointment. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. I asked for extra hollandaise sauce on the side. Smashed potatoes. Root beer to drink. When I got my meal, there was no extra sauce and it was delivered with french fries. I asked for my smashed potatoes and when I got them, the extra sauce was poured over them. NOT WHAT I WANTED. I cut in to the egg and to my surprise and disappointment....it was hard boiled. I made our waitress aware of the issue I had with my breakfast and service. She simply replied, "I can get you more sauce and have them remake your egg." This was 45 minute in to the time we had been there. My potatoes now cold are covered in a gelatinous gravy, egg hard boiled and at this point I didn't want my meal remade. What I did want, was to speak to a manger (Who was not available) and in return I wanted to NOT pay for the meal. I did not eat the Eggs Benedict and I was barely able to get through the potatoes. I did take photos and will upload to the review for reference. If/When I come back with the "usual" group.... This location was well within walking distance to the Inn at Gig Harbor where we stayed. Enjoy our local Hop n Drops and wanted to try this one for lunch. Very bright and open inside, which we like. The staff greeted us immediately. Chose to sit at the bar and have our meal. Service was fast and amazing! Would highly recommend this location if in Gig Harbor!! Food and drinks never disappoint. Tried this thru DoorDash on a whim. You see, I love me some fried zucchini, and this place is so good! We ordered burgers, chicken tenders, tempura shrimp, and TWO orders of tempura zucchini. Now mind you for three people that's a lot of food! Of course for me, the zucchini was for the next day! Put the zucchini on baking sheet and into the oven for 12 minutes, a quick lunch! It's even crispier the second day heated in the oven. Happy happy! The chicken tenders and tempura shrimp were juicy and actually a tender tender. The servers are awesome and so friendly, the food is always amazing and their house made sauces and dips are noticeably better than other restaurants (try the garlic ranch!). Follow-up Review My previous experience was not a positive one, but the manager reached out to my review, apologized, and asked us to give them another chance. We went in last night for dinner and he remembered us and my food allergy. We ordered the tempera zucchini (yay! sooo glad this is back!) and two burgers, one with no onion, and for drinks we had a lemon drop and an iced tea. All the food came out perfectly timed and absolutely delicious. This is my favorite place to come for a lemon drop and the burgers here are absolutely the best in town. At the end of our meal the manager told us it was on the house to make up for the mistake from last time. I'm truly impressed by his kindness! Went to Hops and Drops before the COVID thing and had a great meal with drinks. The bartender, "Jensen" was a hoot, kept us in stitches and made great drinks. The food is good, fast and you get a belly full for the price. I'd recommend the patty melt or a burger and fries. When you go ask for "Jensen" he's fast, funny and a great compliment to the food!! Had breakfast here during Covid and was so incredibly happy! The protocol for hygiene and cleanliness was super and the food, well it exceeded our expectations. The pancakes were out of this world, perfect, the eggs were just wonderful. The chefs are doing what they are trained to do.
