We told the server, who apologized and offered to bring something else, but I declined since I lost my appetite. I've been coming here for years and it's been a while since I've dined here and decided to celebrate my birthday yesterday. So happy to say it continues to be delicious. The manager overheard that is was my birthday and offered a dessert. So very kind of her.We started off with the yummy warm bread with buttery garlic melting on top. It's so hard to stop eating the whole basket. I ordered the pan seared salmon and rice pilaf and seasonal veggies which was carrots and broccolini. The salmon was was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly as well. The rice was fluffy and buttery. The veggies were not overcooked and crunchy and flavored just right. They gave me a dessert for my birthday which so sooooo yummy. It was the molten lava cake and man was I in love with it. It tasted like I was eating cake with a fudgy texture. I'm so happy I chose here to come to celebrate. Ordered delivery after staying at a nearby hotel. Prime rib dip was tasty, requested chips instead of fries- they gave fries and they weren't really hot and fresh tasting. Clam chowder was creamy and full of clams. Coconut shrimp were crunchy and sauce had a kick to it-nice portions too. Salad was a bit pricey but tasted as described. 5/20/23 Dinner with friends. It's been a few years since we've been to Horatio's, but it is exactly how I remembered. We started with some delicious garlic bread, calamari, and lobster bisque. I think we've may have filled up a little too much on their delicious bread. Chad, our server, kept pushing the garlic bread on us and we could not refuse. The calamari was perfectly fried and I love that they added fried artichokes. The lobster bisque was delicious, too. They are generous with the chunks of lobster. For our entrées we got the fish and chips and shrimp and crab fettuccine. Both were good portions and very tasty. We even had leftovers to take home. I had heard a lot about this place and it looked really nice online, but it was overall a huge disappointment. Both my friend and I's orders were incorrect. I had ordered the crab sandwich without cheese but it's premixed so I ended up getting the French dip minus the bread. I was disappointed with it. Thin shavings of overcooked meat. My friend ordered the hamburger without bacon and instead of them taking it back, he just had to take the bacon off. Drinks came very slow as well. For almost $100 definitely not worth it. Horatio's was an unexpected find. Our first time there, and it was a good one. Fun nautical kind of theme with a lot of attention to details. We got the crab and macadamia nut stuffed Mahi Mahi and mashed potatoes, and the Chilean sea bass with cranberry and a gongonzola risotto. Both were delicious . Plus the mocktails were also tasty. Updated: I've had good experiences here in the past, but my visit on 3/18 was completely ridiculous and egregious. My wife and I attempted to come here for dessert and drinks after having dinner somewhere else. We decided to just sit at the bar top. Usually sitting at the bar somewhere guarantees you quick and efficient service.Not so here. We sat down to a bar that one person sitting at it and one bartender. This bartender never even said a word to us. He just kept making drinks that the servers had ordered. He walked past us several times. Tip to this guy. In that situation you grab a couple waters and say I'll be right with you. Eventually a female bartender emerged and gave us some menus and waters. She disappeared thought shortly after this. The male bartender continued to ignore us and make drinks that the servers had ordered. We Eventually gave up on getting served and left. All we wanted was a few drinks and some dessert. Easy order. I have nothing but good to say about this restaurant. The atmosphere, the location, the views, the service and the amazing food! Has an old nautical, rustic feel the minute you walk in. Rustic wood flooring, nostalgic nautical decoration and wall hangings. An amzaing signature cocktail menu and great wine selection. The food is amazing. We had the sampler platter with crab/artichoke dip, tender teriyaki steak bites and deep fried butterflied shrimp served with a special sauce. The group I was coordinating with had expressed reservations about returning due to prior negative experiences with both service quality and food quality. While the hostess was courteous in explaining the staffing constraints, this situation underscores the restaurant's apparent inability to adequately staff its operations. We went here with a couple of friends, hoping for decent seafood. Things started well, with our waiter bringing drinks a bread quickly. After that, things went quickly (actually very slowly) downhill. After trying unsuccessfully to catch our waiter's eye, I finally had to stand up and wave my hands to get him to come to our table to take appetizer order. The appetizers appeared quickly (crab/artichoke dip and burrata/tomato platter) and were pretty good, delivered by someone who wasn't our waiter. We told the guy that we were ready to order our main courses. 20 minutes later we still were waiting for our waiter. He made a couple of appearances on the dining room, but never looked our way as we tried to catch his attention. He even delivered salads to the table next to us, but managed to avoid eye contact before he darted out of the dining room. Finally, we asked someone else if he could come by and take our order. He eventually showed up and took our order...three of us ordered soups to go with our courses. Our courses arrived soon after (again, delivered by someone other than our waiter), and we mentioned that three of us had ordered soups that we hadn't received. They offered to bring out the soups and we said to forget it and just take them off the bill. We ate our main courses (seafood trio - overcooked shrimp, 2 scallops, and a dry piece of salmon; prime rib that was tough, even though it was ordered rare; and fish and chips with shoestring potatoes, half of which were inedible as they were soggy from the grease from the fish) and waited for the waiter to make an appearance so we could get our bill. After a little wait, the waiter appeared, carrying the soups that we had ordered. We told him that we had already said that we no longer wanted them and asked for the bill. He said the he'd get our bill. Three times he returned to our table saying that he was working on getting the soups off the bill....wth? We came here for my birthday dinner a couple of weeks ago. My husband wanted to take me here since we haven't been here for awhile. We should have celebrated my birthday dinner elsewhere. The service was extremely slow. I know that servers can make a big difference and in our experience, it did. I am not sure if he was overwhelmed with four tables. We are very chill and since I worked part time in the food and beverage industry here and there I know how it can be/is. He was very impersonable with us. The food was a disappointment too. I got the wagyu sirloin and my husband got the fish and chips. My older daughter was not impressed with her chicken strips. It looked like leftovers/scraps. I did like my small appetizer which was a caesar salad. The price point for the items were high for the quantity and quality. The reviews of Horatio's were mixed, so I was a bit hesitant to dine here in the first place. However, the view of the water front, along with my need for a good steak, pushed me to try Horatio's. Boy, would I be in for a disappointment. **** [What did We Order] We had a party of 3 1x Watermelon Salad with Blue Cheese 1x Half-Dozen Oysters 2x SLOW ROASTED HERB CRUSTED PRIME RIB -1 was 12 oz. & the other was a 16 oz. Portion -served with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, au jus, spicy horseradish -16 oz was complemented with their ROASTED GARLIC AND SHALLOT SHRIMP 1x RIBEYE* 16 OZ. -served with Mash Potatoes along with Asparagus -complemented with their NORTH ATLANTIC LOBSTER & BEURRE BLANC ---- The Service: 2/5 We were greeted and sat as soon as we had entered their doors. After taking a lap around the restaurant, I saw that their dinner service was rather moderate - not too packed but not too empty. The menu listed the name's of the Manager along with a Head Chef and according to our server, the Head Chef was in during the time of my visit so that made me even more excited to Dine. Since Horatio's is on the water front, I was definitely in the mood for some type of fish or sea creature, so I asked my server a few questions before beginning. One of the questions was, "Tell me what you have for today's fish option." On their menu, they have a section labeled "FRESH CATCH" so one would assume that what would be served will be limited due to only catching so many fish. The Server had told me that they have all their fish in stock, and that the fish isn't caught fresh. Red Flag. How are you going to state something on a menu that contradicts itself? Apparently, the Prime Rib is prepared fresh every 6 cooking until 3pm, which is then sliced and served to order. Once I heard this, I immediately knew that I wanted a Prime Rib. ---- The Food: 1/5 It took 10 minutes for our Garlic Bread to hit the table - it was a sort of sourdough glazed with a garlic-herb butter. Simple. Another 15 minutes for a half dozen oysters to be brought out, relatively small due to not being in oyster season, but another thing about them is that they tasted fresh caught at least. 10 more minutes, our Watermelon Salad came out. The salad itself had been drenched in vinaigrette, which wasn't the best contrast since the watermelon tasted as if it was sitting in coconut juice. Just the contrast between acidity and sweetness was a bit overwhelming. 40 minutes into our dinner time, and our Entrées finally came out. This is when the tragedy was about to unfold. When both me and my associate cut into our Prime Ribs, it was practically raw. We requested for the cook to be MEDIUM-RARE. The meat was not pinkish at all, just bloody red. As for the Prawns that were ordered additionally with my Prime Rib, they were cold to the touch. The Prime Rib was really deceiving because the outside of the Prime Rib appeared to be burnt, but cutting into it resulted in a blood bath. And when I requested a new cut of my 16 oz. Prime Rib - they were all out of Prime Rib. Honestly, I was Shocked to hear this. It was barely 7:30 PM and there would be no more Prime Rib? How are you going to go about placing Prime Rib on a menu and run out when the Dinner Service isn't even halfway complete. Poor management on the Head Chef's part. My other colleagues' Ribeye looked decent enough, so I had requested my server to place an order of the Ribeye as my 2nd Dish. I was hoping that the Ribeye wasn't going to be Red when I cut into it so I requested for this cut of Ribeye to be prepared MEDIUM. After about 20 minutes of waiting for a decent meal, I was presented with the Ribeye. I go in for a cut and what do you know? It was cooked to hell, Dry like a piece of pork, and tough to chew. I was over Horatio's at this point and requested for the Bill. **** Overall : 1/5 I requested for the Manager, vocalized my complaints regarding the food, and ask him to either speak with the Head Chef to improve his skills or hire a New Chef all together. At least he removed the improperly cooked dishes from our bill and gave us complementary desserts. Shout out to Horatio's for making our 25th Wedding Anniversary very memorable. I reached out to the restaurant for info on large party reservations. Alexis, their event coordinator quickly got back to me with the information I needed. We decided to stick with Horatio's for our celebration. It was the best experience ever from the pre planning to the event itself. The staff was great, the food was delicious, the ambience was beautiful. Originally we had planned to renew our vows in the restaurant space, but then I spotted a small pier behind the restaurant and decided our group of 40 would meet there for our "renewal ceremony". We then walked over for dinner at the restaurant. It was pretty perfect if you ask me. What a gem we have in San Leandro! Thank you to everyone who made our evening extra special. read more

FOOD POISONING ALERT!!!! I have been coming to this restaurant for 40+ years. I have friends visiting from out of town and visited on September 17. I arrived before my friend who came from out of town when I walked in the front of the restaurant was infested replies. My instinct told me to turn around and leave. I went against my better judgment. And stayed. Once inside the bar area I noticed it was very dirty in there. The floors were filthy and had food all over them Again this was another red flag and I should have left. I was embarrassed to tell my friends what was going on so we stayed once I got home. I was immediately sick very hot day. I called and reported the food poisoning right away. I spoke with the manager Farris. I have spoken with him twice plus another female manager. I was told I would be contacted by corporate office. From the very beginning I let Farris know I wanted a refund on my meal because I got sick period. It has now been almost 3 weeks and nobody has contacted me. The management the restaurant has not offered me any compensation refunding my meal any type of compensation. Still my phone call from the corporate office. This is the warning that I will not eat, quality of service was terrible. I was asked to pay my bill before we were even done with our server, leaving for the day. The situation has been handled very poorly. This is the second I've ever done, but I thought it needed to be brought to the attention not patronize this business if I were you. I will not be going back. I was feeling nostalgic coming here because this was the place I took my then hottie girlfriend for a romantic birthday day dinner way back before Yelp ever existed. Around maybe 2005 or 06. It was a great experience back then. Now we're married and with a teenager with us and a couple of plus sizes more, but not that much! The place hasn't changed much, just a little more wear and tear restaurant. Still though a nice place to bring a date. The staff here are friendly and helpful. The food we had was great except for my Grilled Pork Chop with Apricot Chutney. The Chutney I could've had without. It was sour and it conflicted with the delicious flavor of the grilled pork chop. First let me start by saying thank you for being able to accommodate our last minute plus one to our reservation that was unexpected. Was seated promptly and given waters while we looked over the menu. The bread service did take quite long (over 45 minutes) and we asked a few times. We had a mishap with the drink orders, but we got it together quickly. Food was delicious my only complaint is the green beans weren't consistently cooked. My plate they was basically raw and on another guest plate they was overly shriveled up and also the ends weren't cut. The service was pretty good by Jeramiah with refills and making sure we had everything we needed. Up until the end because I never got my creme brûlée dessert and I sat at the table for 25ish minutes waiting for them to clear our plates after we boxed up leftovers and paid the bill. Seems like he disappeared and I couldn't get ahold of any other servers. I ended up leaving without it which really sucked because I was looking forward to a little sweet treat. Family lunch on a weekday. The hostess station was very crowded and there was a line; we had a reservation but didn't need it. We were seated and shortly later, ordered drinks, as they arrived, we ordered entrees. The complimentary garlic bread arrived, then the drinks. Sadly, none of the entrees we ordered were very good. The fish & chips was a good portion (3-pc) w/shoestring potatoes (skipped the tartar sauce, had malt vinegar instead!) The battered fish was hot, the fries, not so much. Steak fries would have been better a better choice; both for the entree profile and that they retain heat better (not an option, unfortunately). The fish had a mushy texture and no real flavor, but the batter was nice and crunchy. The asiago-crusted sole (lukewarm) was also a good portion, though the pieces were very thin (and equally bland). There was a large portion of tasteless "jasmine" rice (also lukewarm) with a few scant overcooked pieces of carrot and green beans. The fisherman's platter was the trifecta of disappointment (yes, lukewarm) with none of the tempura shrimp (2-pc), almond-crusted scallops(2-pc), crab tots (2-pc) or battered cod (1-pc) having any flavor. There was no salt or pepper on the table. We asked for some; when it arrived, neither it nor the condiments could help any of the entrees. For us, the highlight of the lunch was the garlic bread, the views of the empty marina, watching the SWA flights coming in, and our server, Allen. He was really jumping with several large tables of lunch groups, while serving us as well (accounting for the lukewarm entrees). A sad commentary on a "meh" lunch. My husband and I went there last night for dinner with a big group of my in-laws. The service was friendly, and the food was amazing. Best clam chowder I've had in ages and I loved the bay views too! It wasn't very crowded since it is Labor Day weekend and people are out of town, so that was nice. I took out the 5th star on my review only cause they were very slow in bringing our drinks, and also the "Bloody Mary calamari cocktail" sauce was a disappointment to me (but that's cause I'm a traditionalist with cocktail sauce). ;-) We will totally go back to this place though. Arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation (Christmas day lunch), and were seated immediately, with lovely greetings of "Merry Christmas" from multiple staff. Our server followed shortly with menus. As we placed drink orders, the server was asked about the "rotational" draft beer listed on the drinks menu and was told it was a red ale, but what arrived wasn't. The server left before he could be questioned, so the brew was tried and was ok so it wasn't sent back. The menu offered was a three-course meal. We started with the clam chowder, the caesar salad, and what was listed on the menu as a maple pear and blue cheese salad. When it was ordered, our server said it was maple pear OR blue cheese?! So the maple pear salad was ordered. What arrived was as listed on the menu! All three starters were fine. The entrees arrived shortly thereafter. We had the sea bass, the almond-crusted scallops, the 12oz prime rib, and a side of grilled asparagus with bernaise sauce. The sea bass was good, but the side of mashed potatoes was arrived barely warm. The scallops were ok. The prime rib was almost half fat (see photo). No asparagus side dish arrived; we asked and it was immediately brought, but no bernaise appeared. We gave up and began eating. The desserts were the best part of the meal, we enjoyed the key lime pie and creme brûlée (though the brûlée sugar crust didn't crack when hit with a spoon; they may have been "torched" in batches earlier). Bottom line: the meal was ok, with multiple glitches; not as nice as it could have been for a holiday meal. read more

In short, denial denial denial as you can see from the screenshot uploaded. "No one believed you anyway" was the ultimate response. This will be my last post on this matter. As someone who works in the service industry, I am always looking for ways for customers to help me improve so I can outwork my competition even if I'm already performing at full excellence. I understand the toughness of the restaurant business and therefore I still wish them well. However, this type of response from them is basically a textbook way of how NOT to treat your customers. Food- tasting sampler was yummy! The crab dip was my favorite part. The seared teriyaki tenderloins (the beef bites in the sampler) were on the salty side. The chicken Dijon was juicy, the garlic bread had this delicious garlic butter, and I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes. I had built up a balance on my Landry's card and decided to take out my wife for dinner, early December with a 530 reservation. We were seated in the row of tables, along the water view window on the North side of the restaurant. We waited and waited and waited more than 20 minutes. I got up and asked a waitress at the machine if we could have some one tend to us. He finally shows up and it's a slow process of getting drinks, giving our order, getting our food, getting out bill. A table of 4 who came in after us (in the waitress's) section, orders, eats and leaves before us. Terribly slow and lack of attention to the customer was our experience. read more

Lovely people, service, and food. The view is not as pretty as it used to be but I love it there still.
