Not a good experience. We were looking for late lunch, Horus Cafe was across the street. We entered, the place is large, saw one occupied table in the back and a single guy smoking a hookah in the front. The hookah guy tells us to grab any table because the host is in the bathroom - too much info. Finally the host arrived with the menus. It took a while to peruse...decision made - chicken shawarma wrap, chicken Alfredo pasta, glass of red wine and water. The wine and water arrived relatively quickly. The water - bottled, not tap water with ice. The food took a while. My shawarma chicken was dry, flavorful but dry. The Alfredo was very good, I must say. The food bill with tax - $68 plus $10+ 15% gratuity which is $77 and they were asking additional gratuity from 18% - 25%. The total with 20% was $91. ARE YOU SERIOUS? One of the better hookah lounges in the city. I've visited probably a handful of times already - twice in a week even. Their hookah is really good. A little overpriced but it's the city so it's expected. Their decor is also really nice, very Middle Eastern. Their service is pretty fast too. Try their chocolate cake, it's shaped like a pyramid! The only downside is - every person needs to buy food or drink in order to sit down. Even if you're not smoking. The reason I'm leaving 2 stars because the owner refuses apply the 20%discount they are offering on yelp claiming that I came on his lounch special menu price the prices already reedus and he can't apply the discount. I explained him that I came following this promotion and otherwise I wouldn't come, on promotion there is no restriction of times. To the owner: If you know you have a lunch special price everyday starte starts at 12pm, you have to change the promotion ours. Unlike some other pple that come only for hookah I ended ordering for $70 solo I got 0% promotion The owner of the place told me it was a mistake on yelp and he needs to fix it. So here I am at at Horus Cafe with a few friends. We ordered their truffle fries and although I did not have any the review on it was very positive. I did have a few pomegranate margaritas and although they were pretty weak, they were tasty. Also had hookah, no complaints. Now to what gave this café its low rating. At one point I asked for a round of tequila shots, without asking what kind of tequila our sever comes back with some type of house tequila, I prefer casas or patron but I digress. Immediately after cheers'ing and taking the shot we all looked at each other like somethings wrong here. The shot tasted like a tequila shot that was watered down. Now maybe the server thought we were lit as they were serving us a lot of drinks, which again weren't strong. When I told the server about the watered down shot he said and I am paraphrasing " Usual tequila is usually 40% but because there is a school in the vicinity the tequila I gave you was 24%" like for one how does that correlate and secondly, don't you think this would be worth mentioning to your customers before giving them BS shots? Came here with some friends, after two pitchers of sangria and two hookahs my friend asked for a glass of water. Our server brought over a bottle of Evian and when my friend said no, tap is fine he refused to serve her tap water citing that legally he doesn't have to serve water unless we ordered food. Clearly he wanted us to pay extra for the bottled water. This place is trash and to refuse an already paying customer a glass of free tap water so you can charge extra for bottled is down right disgusting greedy behavior. Depending on your mood, it's the perfect place to catch up with friends, relax at the end of the night, or dance(mind you there isn't really a designated dance space but the DJ always manages to get people up). This place has some of the smoothest hookah I have ever tried (not that I'm a huge connoisseur). What they do is actually use fresh fruit (an apple in our case) to filter the smoke. Brilliant! They also have delicious Moroccan tea, which when mixed with high amount of sugar, really creates a magnificent blend. Now for the bad. While it is a "lounge," it has a dance floor and music bumping. Went to Horus to celebrate our good friend's birthday. Everyone was smoking hookah but us, and so with the $30/person minimum required with had a few drinks and some food items. This rule isn't very customer friendly. I never spend $30 on my own, and if I wasn't already there, I probably would have bailed. I would still have had 2 drinks, but I guess a $14 total would have castrate me haha. Oh well. Beware. We tried the chicken kebab and it was surprisingly very good. We also shared baklava. That piece of sweet dry cake must have been the worse I have ever had. I almost spat it out. Tasted like cardboard. Has it been bought from a Sam's club weeks ago?
