Sushi is my favorite thing to eat but I have definitely had better. I ordered a tuna avocado roll and an order of sashimi and rice and it came to $15- not that much in the grand scheme of things but I've paid less for sushi 1000 times better. My rice was undercooked in some spots (it actually crunched) and the tuna in both the tuna avocado roll and the sashimi had a strong sour vinegar taste. The texture of the sashimi was also very strange. The only positive was the portion size of the sashimi, they give you larger pieces than any other local place but when it comes to what you're eating do you really want quantity over quality? read more

Celebrating my birthday, we were excited to be here. Made reservations for 14 people at 730. We were sat at 745 and were told we need to be out by 845 because there are other people waiting. We made the reservations two weeks in advance. Two of our guests were running late and the manager came over and said I'm giving their seats away as I told him they were parking their car. Then he said next time I should cancel you entire reservation. Then we got mad. Food and waitress were good but overshadowed by manager having chefs rush our food with no hibachi show and no sake. My fiancée hosted a dinner party for eight at Hoshi on Thursday, January 19th, 2017 for my birthday. Sadly, our server was not only dismissive but quite rude! Do not go on the weekend. We had drinks at the bar and then sat for dinner. The salad soup and meal came all at once. We were rushed the moment we sat down. We were there about 1 1/2 hours after having drinks, dinner, and dessert and the waitress said we HAD to leave now. Have been here a few times and the food is always decent, but tonight when we had a birthday gathering with 15 guests. We made the reservation well in advance. When we arrived and were seated we were THEN informed that they would be filling the remaining 5 seats at our grill with a family with three young children. We were never told this in advance or we would have invited 5 more guests so this didn't occur. 5 of our guests were now forced to sit in the middle with no view of the hibachi table. Once we did order, the family of 5 that sat with us were not made to order hibachi entrees as we were and the three children ordered sushi and kitchen cooked chicken fingers. This gross family also ate most of their food with there hands and sent half of their food back. They even sent sushi back to have it re rolled. Our server was being occupied by this family of 5 so much that she barely had time to take drink orders. The food quality and service suffered. she was overwhelmed and forgot a few items we had asked for. The food was over salted and sauced. There was no reason for this and a simple heads up when we made the reservation IN PERSON would have been AT LEAST warranted. Fine for a small group. AWFUL for a gathering of 5 or more. The hostess "Lauren" needs a SERIOUS retraining as she is not experienced or knowledgable to handle her position. read more

I went here with a party of 8 (It was my Dad's 80th birthday party----12/10) I reserved a table the week before and they followed up during the week. We all had a great time and the food was excellent. I would definitely go again. The parking was sucky....but what can you do? Plus it was a Saturday night. Just finished eating my 2 rolls I ordered for take out. Upon arriving I was presently surprised at how beautiful the interior was decorated and how crowded it was. The gentleman who helped me was behind the bar but stopped what he was doing and attended to me. I had a California roll and a spicy crab. Asked them to add cream cheese to the California instead they added to both. I had to take off 2 stars do to that alone because nothing's more frustrating then getting something you didn't order and not realizing it until your all the way home. The hibachi experience I had here was ok. Entertainment-wise, I've seen better. I liked the food and their sushi rolls here are really good. We order takeout from them for work more now. I went here for my birthday back in August and it was amazing. I usually travel all the way out to Gasho's in Hauppauge for Hibachi food because any other place I've tried never measures up. This place is actually just as good, maybe better. The ambiance is awesome, the walls are illuminated and really pretty. The chefs are really fun and shoot sake in your mouth if you catch food in your mouth, or even if you miss it! They have huge glasses of sake for $4, so big my dad got pretty wasted off of 2 glasses before we even ate. The hibachi food is amazing. The only negative is that the salad is very small, I would have liked a salad that was at least double the size. I ordered Hibachi vegetables with the Hibachi fried rice, miso soup and salad. No complaints about the food whatsoever. We were a party of 10 and everyone was really happy with their food. Everyone else ordered shrimp, filet mignon, scallops, chicken and my boyfriend got the vegetable tempura. The service was pretty quick, the place was very clean, and the employees are always very nice. Also, I started buying ginger dressing from there in quarts, and they actually gave me a discount the 2nd time I bought it because they saw me in there multiple times. I really love this place, and I would have given it 5 stars but sometimes yelp hides the 5 star reviews and I wanted to make sure my review didn't get hidden. Definitely recommend to everyone! Have been to Hoshi several times predominantly for sushi. The decor is modern. The fish is fresh, well presented and tasty. We have had the same waiter, T.J., by request each time. He has been attentive and allowed us to enjoy our meals in a relaxing manner. Never been rushed, has switched our seating when requested. On one occasion we enjoyed multiple offerings of sushi and sashimi elegantly presented and tasty. My wife enjoyed the beef teriyaki which came to the table sliced, perfectly cooked. It appeared to be 2 strip steaks in a tasty glaze, baby vegetables and hibachi rice. While not inexpensive, it is one of the finer sushi restaurants we have been to in recent years. Have not tried the hibachi side yet. Parking is limited. read more

The kitchen closes at 10 pm!! Do not be fooled. You will NOT, I REPEAT WILL NOT get appropriate service. What you will get is a rude, rushed and inappropriate dining experience. My boyfriend and I arrived at 9:20 pm on a Thursday night, the bar was attended by about 8 people, a table of about 6 were at the Hibachi, a 10 top in the dining area was wrapping up, and there were 2 other 2 tops in the dining area as well. We immediately ordered 2x patron margaritas at $12.00 each...... we then ordered 1 appetizer and 2 entrees which both came with soup and salad. Within minutes we had our soup and salad on the table. Just a very few short minutes later we got the appetizer and told by the waiter "it's last call". So we ordered 2x more patron margaritas. It was only 9:50 at this point and our table is now filled with soup salad appetizer 4 drinks and our entree's. The other 2 tables were eating and talking as we were and with that the music was turned off and we were left to listen to each others yammering and chewing. I asked the waiter to put the music back on as we are paying the same amount for a dining experience as one would had they been there at 7pm and expect the same even though we have obviously inconvenienced you by coming to your place of work for dinner WHILE YOU ARE STILL OPEN!! He put the music back on for a brief 5 minutes or so to then return and start turning off the tv and moving chairs out in preparation for closing. While eating we were presented the check i put down my utensils got out my credit card and asked them if they would like us to finish our dinner OUTSIDE!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME HERE?? $90.00 later and yes I still left a tip of the FAIR SUGGESTED GRATUITY OF 12.44. because i am a chef and my boyfriend is a front of the house manager in restaurants I did not want to just ignore the fact staff is usually paid a giant wage of $5.00 hourly. It was very clear that they wanted us to leave as well as everyone else in the place which is very rude. I can understand had be been lingering and making staff stand around waiting for us, which is obviously not the case as we got there at 9:20 and I am already home writing this review at 10:20 pm. Their soups are fantastic and after my 10th visit in 2 months I have to say I have never ordered anything that wasn't amazing. I have lived in Patchogue my entire life and was so excited when Hoshi first appeared. The food and service was excellent. We went there almost every week and were friendly with the staff. HOWEVER Lately there has been a BAD decline in food quality. The sushi is poorly made--falling apart--missing key ingredients. The quality of fish now is VERY poor. I have eaten in MANY sushi places--Hoshi has forgotten what made them a popular place and are selling poor quality fish that is poorly cut. In addition I choked on their undercooked Squid appetizer and both of my brothers have gotten sick from their food in the last month. This is NOT good. They need to go back to their roots and start selling good quality food before other competitors take their customers from them. There is already a petition for a Sushi Bar on Southocean. It will happen--Hoshi--change your ways so we can remain loyal customers! read more

The worst experience in a restaurant I've ever had, by far! If your server is named "Yammie" don't even sit down. She has a HUGE chip on her shoulder. If you don't know what you want as soon as she asks, she snarls and ignores you. Additionally, if you go in a group containing any "minorities" you WILL be treated differently. You will not be given chop sticks, you will not be asked if you want water, or a refill on anything. We went in an adult group of 9 people of mixed races. We were told that if we didn't know anything about Japanese Cuisine we shouldn't go their by a STAFF member. All stemming from a request to change a $4.50 Sushi Roll on a $300 bill.
