I have tried every bagel place in Montclair and this place is definitely the best. Love their bacon and egg sandwiches, french toast bagels, and their strawberry cream cheese. They also have whole wheat everything bagels, which can be hard to find elsewhere. Their iced coffee comes with coffee ice cubes, which prevents the drink from ever getting watery. Really enjoyed the bagels I had here while I was in town. Ordered the sesame bagel with veggie cc and everything bagel with olive cc. Both were delicious. I love a slightly crispy toast to my bagels, and these delivered though one was slightly less toasted than the other. We live in Brooklyn, NY and went to Montclair to visit our son at school. Stumbled upon this place by looking for bagel stores in the area for breakfast. Coming from eating Brooklyn bagels I am a tough critic! This bagel store was excellent. The bagels and varieties of cream cheese were delicious, and my son had a hot breakfast sandwich and my husband had a bagel with lox, cream cheese and all the fixings. The customer service was a perfect 10 and the owner was as pleasant and welcoming as could be. We will definitely be coming back here. Hot Bagels is probably the best bagels in Montclair but it doesn't get a five star rating because every time I go in there I feel like I am in the purgatory. I usually get the French toast bagel with cream cheese. The bagels here are especially soft and really overall better than the other bagel shops. The issue is that it is so fast paced and confusing. There is no seating and the lines are confusing and there is so much happening. It's like the most crowded and confusing intersection in the world channeled into a bagel store. Overall though these are the best bagels and they are cheap and quick so I would definitely go. read more

The bagels and food, for the most part, is really good. The problem, and reason we will never go back is because of the service. The service is absolutely terrible. I called my order in, gave ample time, went to pick it up. When I walked in there was more staff than customers. Somehow, the second I walked in, everyone suddenly became too busy to help me. I meet eye contact with one of the employees and begin to explain that I had called in an order. He "yeah yeah yeahs" me while walking away to then see him wash dishes in the back and re-organize some shelf. When I gave him a look like "uhhhh hello?", he offered a scoff and said some vulgarities under his breath. Dude if you don't want to work in service then go home and stop ruining this places business. And it's not just him, majority of employees there are so incredibly rude. The service is absolutely terrible; be prepared to wait and then hope you get the correct order. And the cost! $6.50 for a Taylor Ham & egg that costs $4.50 everywhere else. Best bagel joint in montclair by far. Excellent service, always extremely quick with orders. The bagels are always extra fluffy and they never mess up orders. There's so many breakfast and lunch options that I have yet to try. I always stick to either a bagel with a spread or a bagel sandwich. For cream cheese, I will get plain on a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel if I'm having a sweet tooth craving. Absolutely delicious. Even better than that is scallion cream cheese on virtually any savory bagel (everything, egg, plain...) All of their cream cheeses that are flavored are home made and the scallion is to DIE for. Another great option is lox on a bagel with cream cheese. Can't go wrong with some tomatoes on their too. Their traditional egg and cheese sandwiches are absolutely delicious. I believe this shop is related to the spot with the same name on Broad St in Bloomfield, but this one is easier to park at. As many people have already mentioned, these bagels have good texture, some chew, not too bready. They're a good size, not monstrously huge. I only ever order everything bagels, sometimes with lox, tomatoes, onions and cream cheese. That lox sandwich is perfectly made. Not too much of anything, not too little. Even when there's a line, it moves quickly and efficiently. The guys working at the counter are friendly enough. There's only one other bagel shop that I like more, but it's completely out of the way in Clifton (Plaza Bagel and Deli, aka Punk Rock Bagels). read more

Good bagels but very unorganized and chaotic. One of my pet peeves with high volume places is no process and this place needs one badly. All they need is to adhere to next three words. Order. Pay. Pick up. Right now lines are all mixed together. You order. Wait for your order. Then pay. With all lines mixed together doing three different things at once. Just a chaotic scene. No one seems to know whats going on including customers. Have been to plenty of places who do more volume but you always feel like there is method to madness. Everything you could want from a bagel shop. I don't have to tell them to lay the butter on in an old school LES slab or to go heavy with the bacon on my bacon egg and cheese on a toasted everything, they just do it. Saturday mornings you'll find a mix of middle age Dads, young professionals and local Montclair kids home from their first semester at college with their new roommate decked out in their IVY school sweats, because they just had to show their new pals what a true NJ bagel is. The bagels are great but it is EXTREMELY unsanitary. I went in this morning and the guys all only had gloves on one hand with their other hand available to handle money but I watched ALL of them continuously handle food with their non-gloved hands. Beyond gross we won't be coming back. read more
