This spot is an absolute steal. I ordered the 10 oz ribeye steak with fries, fried okra, and a fountain drink for under $20, and honestly, you just can't beat that anywhere. The steak came out perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The fries were easily some of the best I've ever had, even better than the McDonald's fries. Everything was hot, fresh, and satisfying. They also run an amazing deal on Thursdays from 7-9 PM where you can get a 1 lb ribeye for $22, which is just unreal for the quality you're getting. This has definitely been one of my low key spots that I've been keeping to myself, but it deserves the recognition. Highly recommend checking it out. read more

Looking for somewhere new to dine at that's located in my general area, I have recently tried the Hot Dog Shop for a couple of meals. I visited twice because both trips were pleasing. It's located on Brittmoore near W. Little York and has parking on both sides of the building. Look for the sign. inside, it's a true "hole in the wall" dive bar that has a full kitchen and separate dining area next to the bar area with pool tables, TV's, juke box and full bar. You enter into the restaurant area first and then into the bar area. The restaurant has a big menu that includes breakfast. My first visit was to try their hamburger that comes with a 1/2 lb. beef patty on a beautiful brioche bun for $7.19 along with a small serving of their chili that comes without beans for $5.99. I added a fountain drink for $2.79 and my total bill with tax was a little over $17. Here everything is ordered à la carte so no combo discounts. They also offer daily specials. It took less than 10 minutes for the meal to be prepared in the open kitchen. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, pickle and was delicious. Heavy, juicy and flavorful, it was very good tasting and filling (4). The chili came with some melted cheese on top and I liked it even though it didn't come with beans (3). I'm sure that the chili goes well on their hot dogs here. You order at the counter and then they call out your name at the pick up window. I enjoyed this meal. The second visit was for the fried shrimp po boy ($9.59) with a small order of onions rings ($3.79) with an iced tea. The po boy had 5 shrimp with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion on a large hot dog type of bun. Yes, no French bread but then it was just $9.59 for a shrimp po boy and it did taste pretty good (3.5). The small order of thick rings were tasty too (3.5). I liked this meal and would order it again but thought the burger was just a little better. This is a good place to eat with reasonable prices. The staff here is also very friendly and I understand it is a popular place for people who live and work nearby to visit. There is a display case showing off US Navy memorabilia so there is a military tie in. I will return here again to try other menu items. P.S. The fried fish fillet is a 3 while the cole slaw is a 4. My french fries were just warm and I gave them a 3. Best menu item so far is the hamburger. read more

I really enjoyed my hot dog from here! If I'm ever craving a hot dog (likely) and in the area (unlikely) I'll stop by again! I went during dinner time on national hot dog day so I was expecting it to be pretty busy but there weren't very many people there and the service was super fast. I got the Chicago dog and the reason I'm giving only four stars is because the menu doesn't say what's on each hot dog. Maybe it's common knowledge what each different dog should have but I didn't grow up in the States so I'm not familiar with the different types. I got the Chicago because I saw a picture of it on yelp so I had a decent idea of what I was getting myself into. I really enjoyed it! If you are going with kids go in the middle of the day on a week day. Their menu is huge, anything from steak to hot dogs to sandwiches. Half the restaurant is a bar, so it's loud and a bar like atmosphere. There's only like 5 tables and so it's not good for groups unless you want to go to the bar area. The parking is on either side of the restaurant, but one side usually fills up much faster, so if the parking is full try the other side. They do serve good portions for an average price. read more

Stopped in this little place to satisfy my hot dog craving. Man what a hidden gem! They have a very huge menu with lots of choices. I wanted to see how close they were at making an Italian beef and polish combo... like the ones you can get in Chicago. They messed up the order and there was no Italian beef... but I wasn't disappointed with my foot long sausage dog. It didn't taste like the polish dog in Chicago but it was delicious. I brought my select baseball team here between games for a quick bite and to get out of the rain. The place was empty when we arrived, and between all of us we spent a lot of money on a Sunday at 11:30 AM. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by the owner. She repeatedly followed my kids around, telling them they weren't allowed to play shuffleboard or pinball because "professional leagues" wouldn't like how they played. She even confronted my players over 10-cent pool chalk. When I asked for a manager, the owner came to my table, very disrespectful, telling me she didn't need or appreciate our business. I mentioned that I am a Veteran, and she said she didn't care. It's a shame because the food was good and they advertise as being family-friendly with kids' meals and high chairs, but the staff attitude made it clear groups and sports teams aren't welcome. Upon entering, the strong smell of smoke is noticeable--great if you're a smoker, unpleasant if you're not. The atmosphere is relaxed, which is nice unless you prioritize cleanliness. I ate at The Hot Dog Shop on Sunday , September 15. I had the foot long hot dog with chili, cheese, mustard and onions. I also had a large fries and a Diet Coke. The fries are really good and crispy. The large order was very generous and more than I could eat. The hot dog was good as well. Overall I really enjoyed the meal. The big downside to this restaurant is that it smells like stale cigarettes. Because of the smell, I won't be going back which is a shame. read more

So I'm a New Yorker that considers himself a hot dog connoisseur! I love them NY style (with spicy mustard and coleslaw) as well as Chicago style. Been eating them for over 50 years and I'm usually disappointed when I have them in most places. I stumbled upon the "Hot Dog Shop" and finally found a place that actually knows a good hot dog! It's now my go-to spot when the craving calls. The service is friendly and fast, and the prices are reasonable. They have many other items on the menu, but I go there for the hot dogs. Neat little bar and grill. It's usually pretty chill, so we like going to hangout there with friends. We go thursdays for steak night pretty often. The downside is it's also karaoke night. If you like karaoke, though, check it out. There's also bar games if you want something to do. The 1lb steak is always tender and well seasoned. Comes with two sides for $17, not a bad deal at all. The bar tender/server is attentive too and checks on us often. I had the Reuben on my most recent visit. It was good, everything you want in a Reuben. Also recommend the southwest egg rolls if you're looking for a snack or appetizer while you drink. I'll definitely continue to be a regular here. read more

The fam was in an area for a volleyball tournament, I drove separately because I had to go to work in the middle of the tournament. This would fall into the dive category if Guy went there. It is a large place, and I had a hankering for some hot dogs. This place is in an industrial place and the interior fits in properly. It is what I would call an old gin mill style bar/restaurant that I grew up with near the steel plant. Staff was great, very engaging. There is also a separate bar in the back. Food, I am a New Yorker, and they serve Vienna dogs. Hot dogs have a variety of flavors that are we will say regional. I am not a fan of Vienna. I would do a Sabrett or a Hebrew national first, and before them all, a Sahlens. That is just me and my flavors. I ended up getting three because I needed to eat before getting to work, kraut, mustard and onion, chili dog and a Chicago with an order of fries. Nice people, friendly, but an old interior, environment needs updating, good fries. I probably would not go back, not because of the place, but the hotdogs themselves. Again, not a fan of Vienna hot dogs, please understand that. That does influence my opinion. They are thin, narrow and too short for the bun. read more

It's like a bar/grill vibe, which I didn't expect! We heard the hot dogs were good so my boyfriend ordered one and I got the ribeye platter because in photos it looked pretty good! Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with my plate. The ribeye didn't look anything like any of the photos posted. It was super thin, milanesa type thin. I asked for medium but since it was so thin it was well done. I got a little nauseous eating it because the temp was lukewarm. You get two sides so I got green beans and mash potatoes. Green beans are just canned, no salt. Mashed potatoes were decent. My boyfriends hot dog wasn't anything to rave about. He customized it to his liking but it was pretty mediocre. There's seating near the bar but the floor is carpeted so it has that smell and it's smoky inside. Tables and chairs were sticky. Don't think we'll be back but staff was very nice. read more

There are a handful of TVs inside the place, most of them were playing an Astros game. I picked the table furthest away, and the TV station was playing Republican politics. Amazing food! Fun friendly service if you come in a few times the regulars adopt you! Free fun atmosphere kinda feels like your own living room with people playing cards, dominos, there's darts shuffle board, pool! They have regular karaoke I always sing! The bar tenders are so friendly and helpful and I can smoke in the bar area!!! I love that. My fav to order is Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms and extra cheese! The chili cheese fries are to die for and I love love the fried mushrooms and southwest egg rolls. I was there Friday night on a date with my husband and they had live music Ben gist. It was big, it was filling, and it was actually pretty good. I had fries and corn with the chicken fried steak and they were alright. However, this place is called "The Hot Dog Shop", right? I had to try their hot dog. So I came the second time and ordered a foot long Slaw dog. A foot long of hot dog with four toppings topped with some cole slaw. Sounds pretty good, right?? Well, unfortunately, for an establishment that promotes Hot Dogs, my hot dog was just okay. It wasn't anything special. Yeah, the toppings kind of made up for the lack of taste of the hot dog, but seriously, the hot dog itself was just eh. This is a small hot dog shop connected to a dive bar. The hot dog shop closes at 10 but the bar goes till 2am. The name suggests this is a specialty shop but nah, no way. The dogs are basically home made style meaning you could probably replicate them at home pretty easily. Tried some onion rings and they were actually very good. Not too greasy, fat, and very crunchy. Nothing fancy here but its a fun place to try if you wanna do something different. I would definitely go back and try other things since its so cheap. Its kid friendly if you stay on the restaurant side. There is a doorway that leads into the bar. There are two pool tables, darts and other "games" there. Its a super old place and a place I think no one would ever think to look for you if you go missing. The main issue with the bar is SMOKE which yeah you're going to leave smelling like smoke. The smoke isnt terrible like some other places I know but its enough to make a comment about it. The crowd is an older crowd and the regulars are obvious. Overall I would go back for sure but its a bit dirty old and smokey. Ill keep it in mind when thinking about doing something different but its not going to be a regular spot for me. read more

In an industrial area of northwest Houston, replete with oil companies and factories, sits the Hot Dog Shop, on Brittmoore near West Little York. During the day, when you first walk in, there is ample light streaming in through the windows, but it gets darker and darker as you make your way into the recesses of the sports bar, and at night, this place would be truly cave like. It's got that old stank of a bar that you know smelled better when smoking was allowed. Pool tables, dart boards, shuffleboard, and TV's are scattered about, and the Hot Dog Shop has quite an array of nightly events, including trivia, karaoke, and curious lingerie shows which I have yet to investigate, even special events like hot dog eating contests, crawfish boils and bbq cook-offs on weekends. But today, we're here for the eponymous hot dogs. They start with Vienna Beef brand frankfurters and end up smothered in chili, cheese, pickles, onions, tomatoes, mustard, ketchup - whatever strikes your fancy. I went with a traditional Chicago, topped with the works, including pickle spears and sport peppers, and I also got a Fire Dog, a bigger 'furter flecked with spicy red peppers on a suitably larger hoagie roll. These are serious dogs that you just can't stop eating. The fries on the side are simple, and homemade, potatoey on the inside, crisp on the outside. They also offer footlongs, Polish sausages, corndogs, or an "economy pack" of 8 dogs (!) for $19.99. The others range from $3-$5, and include 4 toppings. But it's not just hot dogs at the Hot Dog Shop. Patrons have made recommendations over the years, and the menu has expanded to include half pound burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, po-boys, Texas BBQ, and daily diner-style specials like spaghetti, chicken fried steak, and catfish filets. They even have breakfast: eggs, bacon, pancakes, breakfast burritos and sandwiches. I liken this place unto a game of the Sims or something. You start with the name - the Hot Dog Shop - and then like an omnipotent creator who sits back and removes the restraints, you watch as it grows into a little civilization. Judging by the activity here, and the pictures posted on the website, this is a community oriented place, with much, much more going on than just hot dogs. But man, do they do those right. read more
