Have you ever seen so much food in your life.
    Emily S.

Some friends suggested driving here from Arlington because it is such a good deal. They were right. I do not think you can beat it for value. The all you can eat model is so so nice. The sauce bar is also pretty clutch. Ambiance was fun, too. Service was a little matter of fact, but you order using a tablet at your table so getting more of exactly what you want is pretty efficient. I'd put it right in the middle for vegetarian-friendliness - it is a little limited compared to the carnivore experience but you can definitely still eat and be very satisfied. For non-vegetarians the variety of broth options is really impressive. Basically, just look at my pic to understand everything you need to know.

This is probably the best hotpot in the DMV!! Food is always served fresh and onto nice plates! Everything here is just good from the consistency to the quality + the dessert bar is such a good way to end the meal. Shoutout to Mama Amy and staff!!

You can get all you can eat hotpot or order dishes individually. There's a lot of drinks you can order as well. There's a fridge with ice cream and a dessert station where you can select the items to put in your bowl such as lychee jelly, grass jelly, other toppings, and brown sugar. The meat and seafood were fresh, such as octopus, calamari, and pork kidney. The appetizers were good as well such as the spicy beef stripes and spicy chicken (ko shui ji) that was juicy, fresh and soft.

2 different broths and an assortment of meat and veggies.

The service was amazing!! The tomato broth is a must for newbies!! The atmosphere was lovely. Amy, our server was personable and fast! She was attentive but not overbearing. This is a great place to try new foods and adventure a little bit. -Jacky and Jackson

Birthday celebration at Hot Pot Hero!

This spot is my favorite hotpot place in the MoCo area! You could never go wrong with any of the broths. There's most likely a wait during the winter time during dinner rush, but that just means that this place is worth the wait! Amy is great and always recognizes people who return and that made me feel special (especially since there are so many people who come to eat here!) and also gave me a dessert since it was my birthday! I really appreciate the small attention to care and service! Would 10/10 recommend, I've taken a lot of my friends and family here and they all agree that this might be their go to spot when they visit! - Mimi

    Ambience

I've been to many hot pot all around the DMV and this is by far the best one. Soup is great, food selection is the best and customer service is top quality. All of the staff members are genuinely nice, especially Amy. We live far away but Amy's wonderful customer service brings us back everytime.

My friends surprised me with a birthday celebration, and the wait staff was incredibly accommodating! They brought out a cute boombox playing birthday songs, lit the candle, and truly made me feel so special. Thank you, Amy, for such an amazing experience!

A solid hot pot place for AYCE for its price. Their spicy pot is great for spicy lovers and loved their meats, especially their premium beef and lamb. Service is attentive and it's a huge spot. Their bathroom is in the hallway to Ben Gong's.

AMY IS THE BEST SERVER EVER!!! Great spot to eat and the food was cooked by us at the table. Very friendly staff and very informative when it's your first time coming in. We were clear on how to order. It was great. We did the upgraded dinner so we could get the premium meat choices. We did the family pot so it was two pots in one versus the individual pot. I had the herbal broth, he had the mild spicy broth. We ordered a variety of items to put in it but the main thing was ribeye, lamb, chicken. It was DELICIOUS and we left full!!! The peach Moscato was good. Don't forget dessert!!! Ask for Amy because we won't eat unless Amy is our server!!

    Do they serve alcohol?

We did not look for alcohol from their menu. We brought a bottle of red wine from home for the meal and they charged us a cork fee of $15. They brought out wine glasses for us to enjoy our bottle of wine.

Do they take reservations for dinner?

    Unfortunately no.

Is the spicy soup beef based?

Some of the soup's base is spicy( spicy hero pot and spicy assorted mushrooms pot) but the other soup base is not spicy. You can have the tomato soup base and Thai Tom yum and seafood pot base are good. I hope I answer your question.

What's the cost for lunch? Dinner? Weekends? Holidays?

The buffet style is ~$30 per person, same price for lunch & dinner (though a few more options are available @ dinner time so I recommend going then). It's definitely a treat yourself kinda meal & not one for every week, but it is absolutely…

Is it safe for people have food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts and shellfish) to eat at this Restrauant?

Most of the food is raw, there is plenty of shellfish so there could be cross contamination.

Do you have heaters at the outdoor dining?

I don't think I saw any when I was there

Do u have a table of 6 people?

Yes they absolutely do. And tables for larger groups like 8 or 10.

Do they still have All You Can Eat hotpot menu?

    Yes!

    Gm...Is there outdoor seating?

    Yes. They have outdoor seating

Do you have a vegan broth?

    Yes. Herbal and tomato flavor

Can reservations be made for lunch time hours?

    You can call ahead

Is lunch price available on weekends?

Unfortunately, it's all day weekend price

Are their brothers pork based ? Or are there some chicken based or vegetarian based

    It’s beef and chicken based

Is it open on Thanksgiving night?

yes we do until 9:30 pm on that day

Is this restaurant safe for those with Celiac Disease?

The place do carry gluten products in the form of noodles. If you avoid all carbs and just get the veggies & protein (meat & seafood) along with a separate hot pot (if possible) for yourself, you should be OK.

The ribs are tender and each bite is packed with the flavor. They're slathered with sauce which may be off putting to some. For me, it was that perfectly fine balance between enough and flooded. Oh and the portion size? Amazing! Definitely enough to get full for dinner. Pass out for a minute then finish the rest the next day. The Mac and cheese was great. No, these aren't hand made noodles but the amount of cheese, the seasoning, evening l everything else was done expertly. If you want to save yourself an hour or two of cooking mac and cheese at home, get it here. The atmosphere here is very home cooking. It doesn't feel like it's some massive cookie cutter operation. It's nostalgic. This is what comfort food is supposed to taste like. Eating it made me think about fun times with the family back in Florida. While I made the order online, I was greeted as soon as I walked up to the counter. My order was done exactly when it said it would be done and was made with my additional request. I couldn't it be happier and look forward to many more orders and glad to have this place in the neighborhood.

The fish was beautifully seasoned, with rich sweet-and-savory sauces that really brought out its flavor. The meat fell off the bone effortlessly, and the flavor was deep and satisfying. The jambalaya and shrimp boat were also wonderful. I especially loved the creamy, flavorful rice in the jambalaya, and the portions were very filling. Also, their bread was amazing--each of us couldn't stop snapping pieces off of it. It's been open since 1994, and it's easy to see why. Ethel's is really homey and cozy and comfortable. It feels like you've taken a little day trip to New Orleans. We each ordered a couple of drinks (something tropical with rum for me, a martini for my friend, and sangria for my other friend). We shared a few items from their menu: Creole Shrimp Boat (sauteed shrimp, mussels, jumbo lump crab meat, and the fish of the day simmered in a fire roasted red bell pepper sauce, with Creole rice and the vegetable of the day); Hot Cat Stack (fried catfish stacked with sweet and savory Andouille sausage cornbread, spicy crawfish red pepper meunière, honey chive compound butter, hot honey, and the vegetable of the day); a half rack of ribs (slow roasted ribs, Louisiana dry rub seasoning, mopped in BBQ sauce, mashed potato, and the vegetable of the day); and a strawberry bread pudding. Everything was delicious. I liked every course we had, but the Hot Cat Stack was wow. I've had a lot of bad to blah bread puddings in my life, but Ethel's wasn't bad or blah. It was delicious - and not dry at all. At all. The service was friendly but not the fastest (we waited a while for dessert) and maybe just a little scattered! But we eventually got everything we ordered, and the meal overall was wonderful: delicious, fun, casual. I'd love to return!
