I was not thrilled with the Hot Wok, as much as I was hoping it would be a find. But sadly the other reviews were not wrong. I guess I was swayed because I read a review that said the "honey chicken" was excellent. Well you know what, I like Honey Chicken when it is done well so I thought I was going to have a nice lunch. Sadly, my lunch was not nice and the honey chicken was not to my liking. In fact I ended up only eating a few bites before trashing the rest of the dish. What was wrong? It was not cooked with honey, instead they used a lighter sweetener and the chicken was over cooked. I hate to leave such a negative review, but the food was just not goods. read more

Don't let the appearance of this place fool you, It's some of the best Chinese food I've ever had! Their Singapore chow fun is delicious, and they let me ask for it extra spicy! Most places just tell me it is already spicy enouph . Also the cook and I suspect, owner helped me to my car when I was in a Weak state after surgery. Definitely recommend this place ! Also when I first came in to order, I asked where the condiments were and he pointed and said "help yourself " after my return he put the condiments in my bag for me and was very generous! read more

We've been in Jax for 12 years. And LOVE Chinese food. We've tried just about every buffet or take out in the area. Now we've tried Hot Wok. We were astounded. A friend of mine has been telling me I needed to try out Hot Wok and how bomb it was etc etc because I have been struggling to find good chinese place...so I went to go see if it was as good as he claimed, and guess what... it is!!! Now I'm going to be honest the location is not the fanciest but sometimes these types of places be having the BEST FOOD!!! The service was good as far as being greeted with a smile hello, how are you today! They have all the usual favorites that's most Chinese restaurants have. I went with the chicken teriyaki on a stick and the shrimp with the broccoli combo which comes with steamed or fried rice and an egg roll. Everything was sooooo dangon good!! It was perfectly seasoned wasn't salty at all, BUT THAT EGG ROLL!!! Let me teeeeelllll youuuu!! That egg roll was bomb I could have 100 of those and would have a been in egg roll heaven lol!! Good Chinese fast food place. I come here for lunch about three times a month. I've had their chicken with broccoli, pork with mixed veggies, and general tso's chicken. They all taste great! My choice of soup is their wonton soup. When ordering, you can request how spicy you want your food. Their lunch special is under $5 and can add a can of soda for just .50 cents. Right off the bat this place is not as sketchy as the other reviews made it seem. However, lets be real, its Emerson - your expectations shouldn't be that high to begin with. The food itself was okay. We enjoyed the eggrolls and the main chicken dishes. This visits order consisted of general tso and sweet & sour chicken. I was unhappy with the upcharge for my chow mein. They seemed like spaghetti noodles soaked in soy sauce. For a more "authentic" Chinese restaurant I was disappointed that panda express has better chow mein. Ok, like other reviewed stated there is much to be said for the location... I was very hesitant to come here, even after I affixed I waited in my car for a few minutes as a second guessed my decision. I finally went inside and order a lunch chicken and broccoli. I had a question about the sauce and the two young ladies at the register were so nice, friendly and helpful. Those two ladies receive 5 stars. On to the food well it was blah. The rice was ok but the chicken and broccoli lacked flavor on my usual 1-10 scale this order receives a 4. They have a lunch special menu that lasts from 11am till 3pm from Monday through Friday. Too bad I'm a slow poke. It was 3:30pm when I got hungry. I ordered Sesame Chicken ($6.99 for a combo plate, which includes Pork Fried Rice and an eggroll).Of course it was drowning in the sauce as most Chinese places do, but the chicken was still hot and the broccoli was fresh. The sauce tasted pretty good, too. 4 stars. Their teriyaki beef on a stick was delicious (4 pieces for $4.49), much more tender and saucier than what I used to order from another local Chinese restaurant. 4.5 stars. Hot Wok is my go to place, when I have no urge to cook and I want Americanized Chinese food. I'm fortunate enough to live within their delivery area, so I don't even have to leave the house. However be prepared to have to wait at least an hour to get your food, and on a busy night it could be longer. But they do tell you the wait time, and for the most part it is pretty accurate. What I love about this place, they have a large selection of Vegetarian and Vegan dishes. I also don't think they use MSG, because I never feel dried out, dehydrated or bloated after eating there. I like that the portion sizes are pretty generous, so you do get what you pay for. And the food actually tastes decent. I would never say I crave them, but the flavor points are good. read more

The reviews of this place are funny. I heeded their advice and didn't bother to actually go there, but our team at work did order food for delivery. Since they were so busy with lots of other delivery orders, our awesome secretary picked it up. She had concerns about the interior of the establishment, but the rest of us never saw it so we didn't know any better/worse. The servings are generous and my General Tso's chicken was fully breaded, fried and covered with a sweet and not-spicy sauce. Hey! I know exactly where this place is located! I totally would eat anything from here unless I could receive my food via quarter back fashion. The strip club, semi/24 hour liquor store and sex shop just made me feel mildly uneasy. However, the blessing of God descended upon me, and I landed in-patient at Downtown Baptist. Hot-wook graciously delivers for free, and I didn't get yelled at immediately regarding an minimum order, or that I was too far away. They arrived promptly whine 30 minutes! The food was: HOT, FRESH AND DELICIOUS. I had no doubt this stuff was chicken!!!! Lmao! I had the WON-TON soup, and they gave me crispy noodles for toppings! Delicious!!! Totally won me over. I called in a delivery order (their online system was down) to my hotel. The ordering process was quick and easy and the food arrived sooner than expected. I ordered steamed dumplings- standard fair with traditional dipping sauce- pretty good I also order broccoli with garlic sauce which was laden with so much oil that it was inedible. A shame as the broccoli and carrots in the dish were fresh and delicious looking. I couldn't get past the bowl FULL of oil to eat the dish though. I also ordered the Szechuan chicken- mild. This dish was also sitting in an enormous amount of oil and lacked the delicious flavor I was hoping for. It too though was full of delicious and fresh veggies and all white meat chicken.
