Chicken fried rice and chicken for sweet & sour chicken. Not good.

I ordered lunch for pickup today since Chinese sounded good, & it's really close to my work. I ordered online for pickup at 11:30. The girl was friendly and helpful. She confirmed my name & brought my food out right away. My food was ready a little bit early. I ordered Crab Rangoon, & the lunch Sweet & Sour chicken. It comes with rice. I paid $1.50 more for chicken fried rice. It also comes with your choice of soup. I got the wonton soup. The food was hot. The wonton soup was really good. The sweet & sour sauce was good. It was thick & had a good flavor. The Crab Rangoon was not what I expected. They were huge. I didn't love the dough it was made of. It was kind of like an egg roll type, but it was a thicker dough. The filling was really good, & there was a good amount of it inside them. The rice was not very good. Some of it was hard. It was also dry. The chicken was tender, but had no flavor. The chicken for the sweet & sour chicken was not good. It was hard to chew & stringy. This was my first time try this place, & I'm afraid it will be my last.

We continue to look for a good Chinese restaurant. We have lived here for two years and have not been unable to find one. If anyone knows of one please send me a message. Based on the reviews and the ratings we thought we would try hot wok as we had just exited the Home Depot in the same shopping plaza. The reviews we had read did not seem to correspond with our experience. This business is a very basic Chinese restaurant. Certainly no thrills. Very plain interior. The meals are served on paper plates with plastic utensils. The order taker is very monotone. No greeting or anything. He could care less whether you eat there or not. My wife ordered the sweet-and-sour pork but as you can see from the picture all you get is breaded pork. No red peppers. No green peppers. No onions. No pineapple. It is served with a sweet-and-sour sauce in a separate container. I ordered the lemon chicken but it's just thickly breaded chicken. You get a side container of the lemon sauce. Not very appealing. Both orders came with a side of white rice on a paper plate. The food has no flavor. Very bland. We ended up leaving half of our food when we left. We just didn't find it appealing enough to continue eating

The chicken fried rice was ok but I probably won't eat it again. I've never had "New York Style" Chinese before so this was my first time trying, it's not very flavorful like other restaurants. Also, not that this is a big deal but I thought the rice would come in a plastic white container, at least that's what advertised at the restaurant... but it came in a tin foil.

Otherwise it's takeout. We went on Sunday at opening time, party of 6, first ones at the door for our reserved table. Lovely older woman handling the whole dining room. Another table came at the same time, there were probably 8 people incl kids. And another 2 gentlemen came in. It took over an hour before she took our orders. It took at least 30 min for our food to trickle out of the kitchen. It took another 30 minutes after we ate to get our bills paid. We were running out of things to talk about it took so long! The food wasn't great, there's hardly a vegetable in anything! we all ordered fried rice but it looked nothing like fried rice on our combo plates, not a single veggie or shred of egg in it. Those that had plain rice said it was better. We asked for chili crisp, she gave us a container of chili oil and a container with crushed red pepper, yet they had jars of chili crisp for sale. The server really was a gem, but the food and wait times were NOT. Nope, not for me.

Chicken egg rolls did not look like the traditional eggrolls and had a funny taste Chicken lo mein had like five pieces of chicken in it and was very bland tasting. Orange chicken was OK The edamame did not taste fresh at all. They must catered at Asu students from out of state who don't know what Chinese food should taste like. With 50 years in business expectations were high. Unfortunately, this is the first and last time Sticking with Sun Asian kitchen in Phoenix.

Order at the cashier, grab a number, and food will be served to you. Needless to say, I ordered the 4. Shanghai pork mini soup dumplings which were $10.25 for 6 dumplings. I would've loved less dough, more soup, overall bigger portion size (larger dumplings or more of them). Otherwise, the soup itself was tasty. We also ordered the 14. Chongqing Fried Spicy Chicken $13.95, which was a platter of boneless chicken and peppers. I was very impressed with the crisp exterior but soft/juicy interior of the chicken. I'm not usually a spice person, but I was left feeling tingly but not in pain and not numb. Overall I found Heng's Kitchen to be disproportionately pricey given the taste and portion sizes. I'm pretty critical and discerning about my XLB, and this place did not totally satisfy my craving, although I was pleasantly surprised about the chicken. Note: rice is not included with any dish and is $1 extra. Free room-temperature self-serve water available.

When we got there the place was small and fairly busy but we were able to be seated quicker than I thought. I was surprised how quickly the food came out as we did order 9 dishes in which all of them were tasty! The server was welcoming and provided proactive service. He was always around to refill our drinks and take any empty dishes off our table. I don't know if we were just all hungry but all the food was yummy! My favs were the stir fry eggplant and minced pork with garlic sauce + Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet. They had a lot on the menu that I have yet to try. Overall our family was satisfied with the dishes we tried and the service was great!

Try these and see what they should REALLY taste like. 10/10 Secondly, the orange chicken ACTUALLY tastes like real, fresh orange!! Not overly sweet and doughy like most places. The flavor is phenomenal. Only thing is, I wish they were a little crispier but I'm sure you could request that upon ordering. Fried rice and noodles are also delicious! First time I got the dumplings there, and second time had them delivered. Equally delicious- which I was worried about. Just so you know! :)
