Huge thumbs up. If you are coming to stay in Long Beach, this is the place for you. It's so cute. The hotel is located in downtown Long Beach, easy access to anything. Vons is only a block away, the ocean is an easy 3-4 block walk at the most to steps to go onto the beach. Shoreline village and the pike is within walking distance. There is plenty of night life close by. There is a bus stop right across the street in case you are wanting to go a bit farther. 2nd Street Im Belmont shores is very close by with wonderful shops, bars and restaurants, that have plenty of outdoor eating for social distancing. There are a lot of cute boutiques in the neighborhood, and also a very retro record store, footprints, a block over. Also the metro station is walking distance, when the Long Beach Grand Prix is in town that is also walking distance. There is a bluff a nice walk or short bus ride where they have yoga overlooking the ocean. This is the perfect vacation spot. read more

I loved being able to open my window to hear the sounds of the city. I loved the wood floors in my room and didn't mind the shared bathroom. This hotel is very chic and unique. If you're looking for a new experience with night life surroundings and great food, this is the hotel location for you. I was a bit skeptical about the shared bathrooms but it was actually not bad and the bathrooms are very cute. Check out the photos to see the smallest sink in the world LOL. Some rooms come with a private bathroom. Best continental breakfast I've had in awhile with a variety of food and a large enough kitchen. Everyone is very friendly and you're also able to borrow a bike from them for free. Stairs are a bit steep but they give you free cookies halfway up for motivation LOL. Parking garage is a block down not too far from the hotel for $8 a day with a private remote...this gave me piece of mind and you get to stay in the parking lot till 5 pm even after checkout. Rooms come with their own key so you can lock your door and a closet that locks as well, fridge coffee maker microwave and DirecTV. Things and places to check out Padres restaurant and cocktail bar about two blocks down with the best shrimp taco ever, Linden Public for $15 bottomless mimosas, and I highly recommend The Free Ride Transportation since it's free and will take you to the Queen Mary and back. I just got back from a conference in Long Beach and spent the week at Hotel Royal. It is so great to support an independent, family-run business that really gives its all to satisfy their guests. From the cleanliness, the hospitality, the warmth, the simpleness, free bicycle loaners, print-outs of local info I'd casually enquired about, simple great little continental breakfast, clean bathrooms (did not wait once all week for a bathroom)--it was all really, really great. Yes, the rooms are small, yes, it is "quaint"--but the mattress was superb and they had big bags of fresh Starbucks coffee among other things in the rooms! Another great feature was that this place has real windows that open. Imagine being able to get fresh air in a hotel. I only wish more businesses could be like this. read more

We really enjoyed our wedding anniversary trip and this hotel made it so wonderful. The hotel has great personality and vibe. It is older but we were very comfortable. The staff was very friendly! We enjoyed taking the bikes out for a day to explore the art downtown and have lunch at the lighthouse! We felt the warmth of home with mid afternoon cookies. It was very quiet past 10pm and I had great sleep. The only thing I would recommend to the hotel is to get black out draperies. The sun rise did wake me. This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review about a place on Yelp. But our stay at Hotel Royal was great! We got there late and the person at the desk was super welcoming and helpful and even showed us to our room. The room itself was so cute and we had a great view of the city. At first I was a little worried about the shared bathroom situation, but the bathrooms were very nice and I never had to wait. It was the little things that really made the experience great, however. For example - there was an entire bag of Starbucks coffee in the room (which was delicious) and they provided anything you might forget, like bowls and utensils. It kind of felt like walking into a very nicely decorated dorm room or New York apartment - small and cozy with a lot of character. Basically, the room was super cute and quaint, the people were lovely, it was very affordable AND it was in a great area with a lot of yummy and unique food options. We were very impressed! The only thing I'd say is if you're in a room with no AC and you're staying there in the summer, bring a fan. :P But overall, great place! read more

We stayed 2 nights this past weekend. Fishing trip at Pier 55. Check in was smooth. They have 1 space in front for loading. We got a short tour and informed that the desk is only staffed from 7a to 10p. Not bad if everything goes right. They have bikes in the lobby for you to share but need them back by 7p, totally understandable. The room is hard keyed with a deadbolt lock. Our room was about 10x12. We had a queen and a refrigerator and microwave. The bath was a private bath as most share baths. The bathroom was tiny. The walls had paint coming off and wall sticker decals that were coming off. The AC was a tiny window unit. Common in California, but not able to keep up with the room. Is was hot and humid. AC unit blew cold but just could cool the room. Night two we opened the window and had waited to cool the room down. Continental breakfast was ok and appreciated, but it was just a bagel and pastry bites. Bananas were green like fresh off the tree. Parking is $8 a day and a block away. Not terrible but only average and close to the Pier. read more

I arrived at the Hotel on Friday afternoon to check myself in just to find out that my booking was arranged for the next day but the friendly customer service was able to change my booking and I was led to my room just a few minutes later. My room must have had at least 4-5 windows, lots of light, very clean and spacious with views down to the Main Street Restaurants. The hotel is nestled in walking distance to the Convention Center, Catalina Express and surrounded by plenty of great Restaurants. The room had a modern feel to it and offered in addition to a coffee maker also a bottle of Hand Sanitizer, complementary water bottles in the refrigerator and well as bowls to make a quick breakfast. Unfortunately, I only stayed one night due to a business event but I sure would return to spend a long weekend in Long Beach. All the rooms are on the second floor. There is no elevator and the stairs are steep. Parking costs extra. Breakfast variety is minimal. No fruit and lots of sugary food. The staff are helpful and the location is convenient. A Thai restaurant is opposite the motel. Our room was quiet, but a towel was stained, no tissues were provided, the door to the bathroom squeaked, the bathtub was stained, a closet rod was not secure and the view was of a nearby building's wall. Was looking for a place to stay 1 night before embarking on my cruise 9/15/18. I choose Hotel Royal because they had pretty good reviews. I made reservations and paid online for my stay. It was a bit higher than I would have liked to pay but I was cutting it close to the date of arrival. I was quite pleased when my daughter and I arrived. First impressions - it was like a New York apt. style. Danny at the front desk was very pleasant and explained all the amenities. We arrived about 7pm and was hungry and Danny recommended some places for us to eat. He also helped carry our luggage to the room. Beware, there are no elevators. Entry/lobby was clean. They have a small kitchen/dining area towards the rear, where they served continental type breakfast although, it is a complete kitchen equipped with all the appliances and cookware needed if you wanted to prepare a hot meal. Our room that was located on the 2nd floor was clean. Bed linen and towels were also clean. No bugs. I booked a room with our own bathroom as they do have shared bathrooms on each floor. Water pressure for showering was decent. There was a small fridge with 2 water bottles, complimentary. Also free coffee and tea with a coffee maker in the room. The air conditioning worked very well. There was a dry erase board on the wall in the lobby where you could write a message on your stay there which I thought was cute. They also had bikes that was available at no cost, for you to ride around town. Our stay was very quiet, we really couldn't hear much noise outside. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Front doors are locked at a certain time and a code is given to you to use another entrance door also fronting the building. All in all, I thought it was a very good stay and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a short stay. read more

Very small rooms Parking 1 block away from the building. Area looks very unsafe as we saw homeless people walking around. The 1 block walk from the parking to the hotel was was nerve racking and the 5 min walked seems 30 min as we did not feels safe. Most Bathrooms are shared and are outside the room. When we arrived at night to the hotel we had to open the main door ourself there was nobody to help us. Overall good service, however in general this place is falls below average. It would be far from truth to have this place ranked # 1 on Yelp. In fact it is a disservice to yelp if this trends continues. read more

I chose this hotel for spending two non-consecutive nights in Long Beach because it was reasonably priced, very close to my sister, and because I was traveling single and it sounded safe. I chose two rooms that had kitchenettes and private bath. They were both quiet, clean, adequately supplied, and comfortable. The room with the Murphy bed was very tight on space; the regular kitchenette room had ample space for one person. This hotel sits at the edge of a redeveloped part of Long Beach, with lots of restaurants, cute shops, and a Vons supermarket 2 blocks away. Street parking can be easy or difficult, depending on the day of week and time of day. One night I bought a parking pass for the garage a block away; it worked, but was scary at night when the garage was unattended. I enjoyed my stays and would definitely stay here any time I visit Long Beach. In fact, my sister has already recommended it to expected visitors based on my description. read more

Booked this hotel after seeing it online. I was having surgery the next day and wanted to be close to the hospital . The young man at the front desk was amazing. He explained everything from parking to checking out perfectly . Our room was #9. It was a little smaller then I expected but was clean and ok for the one night. The air conditioner in the window did not cool off the room. We were also skeptical about parking being 2 blocks away. We had to be at the hospital at 5am and waking to the car at 4:30 am while carrying our luggage was a scary experience, we fit right on with all the homeless people. We stayed here for a night before flying out of LAX in the AM - great location, close to the beaches. There is also a grocery store about two blocks down, so you're able to grab some food for meals if you want to - we had a nice little kitchenette in our room so that worked out wonderfully. The room itself was spacious enough for two people and their luggage, bathroom was awesome - great shower, nice little updates to add some more luxury to your stay. We stayed in the west wing, so I didn't have to deal with any stairs, and we had our own private bathroom. The customer service was also great - I was sent a text message with instructions on the check in process, and they were also very understanding that we might be checking in later than we thought - they sent us nice, clear, detailed instructions on how to access our room after the front desk staff was gone for the day. They were also kind enough to store our luggage for us for a few hours after we checked out in the AM since we had time to kill before our flight. Awesome people, nice location and room. My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at this cute little gem. The staff of Hotel Royal were all very helpful from start to finish. When we called to let them know that we would be arriving after hours (10pm) they were so helpful and understanding. We received very detailed instructions of how to get to the hotel, how to park, and how to enjoy all of their amazing amenities. A bit over my spending budget, but well worth it. Each room is different and I had the Murphy bed. The room was very quaint and had a mini kitchen. Free cookies and the lobby area was very roomy. They even have bikes you can rent and the receptionists were super friendly. One recommended a semi fancy restaurant and it was off the charts fucken delicious (Olive and fourth). This is the cutest, coolest, most hip boutique hotel in Long Beach CA. The top notch staff and the unique accommodations are definitely well worth getting to know. Nestled in the heart beat of the East Village Arts District in Long Beach, somethings always abuzz. They have a plethora of bikes you can use free of charge as well as a computer room complete with scanner and printer and they have a wonderful full kitchen you can use until fairly late. Each room is unique. All have microwaves, coffee makers, refrigerators, air conditioners, space for hanging clothes, irons, blow dryers, dressers and a sink with nice mirrors. Some have individual baths, some are like a studio apartment. It's quaint that the room only accommodations have the bathroom with beautiful and very clean showers down the hall. The hotel is decorated with a mix of modern streamlined items with some vintage touches and all of the artwork, paintings, photographs, and other is from Long Beachs local artists. Beautifully decorated common areas and most importantly a code entrance to get in, so you feel totally safe. Downtown is a bit diverse. Not to worry though. Everyone has a general understanding of what is acceptable and what isn't. I stayed here for 3 weeks. I was in many of the rooms and the staff and I enjoyed the experience. I highly recommend it to the traveler who wants to feel the growing but already hip vibe in the DTLB arts district.... Tons of stores and eateries. Very walkable. read more

This hidden little gem was a pleasure! My son & I stayed here from Feb.16 through Feb.20 during my recent visit back to my hometown, Long Beach, Ca. What I like best about this hotel is you don't have that "hotel feeling". It really does feel like you're staying in a decked out studio/apartment w/ all the amenities you'll need. I booked the kitchenette room and was wowed immediately after unlocking/entering our door to go in. To be precise, ((ROOM 12)) sits on the second level and has a nice corner view of Broadway/Linden streets along w/ restaurants and numerous shops throughout the village arts district. At first, I was a bit bummed out that they don't have their own parking lot but after a short 5 minute walk, I realized I was actually enjoying the walk passing all the shops on our way there becoming familiar w/ the shops that were around us. There really is no need for a rental car if you are staying in the downtown area because everything is soooo close by. I personally would like to thank staff members, Monae, Joe and Coralie for assisting us for our stay here. read more

I really cannot say enough good things about this place! I happened to stumble across a vacancy on Craigslist in June 2013, and I was so happy I did! The application process was quick and smooth, and the owners Coralie and Joe were such delightful and pleasant people to work with. I ended up renting a studio with a private bathroom, in which the set up was far beyond my expectations! The studio was completely furnished down to the bedding, towels, pots & pans, stove, refrigerator, flat screen TV with cable, wifi - the whole nine! Not to mention utilities included! All of this for only $950/month and in a location smack dab in the middle of all the downtown LB happenings! The only downside was lack of A/C in the building, but honestly that really didn't bother me as I kept my windows open for most of the day. Overall, I was very sad and disappointed to have to leave after only a couple of months due to a two-year job assignment in another state that I just couldn't pass up. Otherwise I would've stayed for a long, long time! I look forward to moving back to LB in another year and hopefully finding another vacancy at The Royal Hotel, and if not, at least moving to another apartment in close proximity as East Village really is a prime area to live in. The Royal hotel in downtown long beach is an amazing place to live at, Its right in the heart of downtown, the east village surrounded by everything, coffee shops, Mom and pop boutiques, restaurants the Metro Blue line, The little red bus to take you to Belmont shore and to the queen Mary right outside its doors. The staff there is amazing and the guest that say here are from all over the world, where else would you experience anything like this charming place? I can't think of one. I have met people there from Africa to the united kingdom, Saudi Arabia, you name it the guest have been there. The staff here really does care for the guest staying a month or two, The rooms have flat screen TVs', WIFI , and it even has a kitchen for its guest. Lets cook! My husband and I stayed here for one night in the queen kitchenette room. It was small, but had so much more than most hotels. We loved the kitchen! They had a small coffee maker and provided ground starbucks. Everything you need for a quick breakfast and cup of coffee in the morning is provided. We brought our own cereal and milk, but the community kitchen downstairs provides morning treats. The hotel offers bikes for free if you need. The room was a bit worn, the building is very old, but very clean and homey. I always check the mattress and we were happy to see that this hotel puts covers over their mattresses. The staff was great and friendly, but the other guests were not. Sound travels in an old building. I could hear inconsiderate guests slamming doors all night. Overall though we loved this unique hotel and would stay here again. read more

You see the Royal hotel has become our home over the last couple of months while we looked for a new permeant home. I can't thank the Royal Hotel enough for making the last couple of months manageable and comfortable. The location is perfect! The rates are the best in town, the accommodations are the cleanest and most welcoming and the staff is not only amazing but also kind, gracious and very friendly. Each room is uniquely decorated, all rooms come with soft sheets, plush towels a microwave, refrigerator, dishes a coffee maker and a bag of Starbucks coffee! There are a combination of rooms offering a shared bathroom, and rooms with private bathrooms. The shared bathroom accommodations do include a sink which is very convenient for washing up or cleaning up. There are a total of 3 bathrooms to share, never once did I have to wait to use a bathroom. The staff keeps the shared bathrooms very clean and stocked. The Royal Hotel also offers a shared kitchen which offers everything you need to cook a nice meal in addition to a 2 sets of washer of dryers and did I mention the bikes?! That's right you can take a bike out for the day at no additional cost. We stayed in the family suite which was perfect with a gorgeous kitchen and everything you could need in the apartment style set up. Hotel Royal is walking distance to everything Long Beach has to offer. So close to the waterfront too. You can pack your day full of activities or just relax and enjoy a nice stroll along the shore, soak up the scenery.
