My husband and I stayed here for a wedding in Long Beach. We stayed in a room with a bathroom which was perfect. The room was just what we needed: bed was comfortable, quiet, nice air conditioner, and decent shower. The hotel is great with bikes to take out, quaint kitchen where they offer a small breakfast in the morning, and the staff is incredibly sweet. Location is perfect: close to the beach and great restaurants near by. I would definitely stay her again. read more

Such a lovely and eclectic hotel. I love staying at places like this, that aren't quite like anywhere else you've stayed. Unfortunately though, there was a tree limb that was banging up against my ac unit making it nearly impossible to sleep the last night of my stay. Told Joe, the man at the front desk the morning after my sleepless night, what had happened and he insisted on giving me a refund for my second night. Talk about awesome customer service! We have just spent 15 day's at Hotel Royal Long Beach. This has been probably the best experience we've had at any other hotel we've stayed in. Very Clean. I believe built in the 1920's so there are no elevators. We looked at it as getting in a little bit of exercise. The entire staff is Professional, Respectful, Courteous, Accommodating and all very Friendly. The Continental Breakfast is great. Excellent coffee, Tea and always an abundance of Bread and Pastries, Orange Juice, Lemon Water and Yogurt. Also, a shared complete Kitchen to cook in if you choose to eat in. We also stayed in a room with shared bath. We never had to wait. If one was occupied there was another available. And always clean. When in Long Beach we will most certainly stay there again. read more

We really enjoyed our 2-day stay here last weekend. The room was very small, but had everything we needed--& lots of charm. The community kitchen provided us with breakfast & a place to produce our own dinner. (Von's is just down the street--a very easy walk.) The hotel is just a couple of blocks from the Transit Center, where our Amtrak bus dropped us. We were also able to catch a city bus there, which meant that we were able to get to & from our family gathering at the marina. My husband even took one of the hotel bikes for a spin one morning. Me and I stayed here for one night before our cruise, it was very nice. The front desk was very friendly and knowledgeable. He offered advice on where to eat and things to do that were near by. This place was fantastic. We stayed only one night in Long Beach, to attend a party on the Queen Mary and for whale watching the next morning. I chose the Hotel Royal for its affordability and good reviews, and I couldn't have made a better choice! Coralie was so sweet and helpful upon our early arrival (almost 3 hours), she made sure we had a room and explained where everything was. There was a very clean and well stocked kitchen at the end of the hall, several clean and well appointed bathrooms on each floor. Common areas were clean and well lit. The whole place felt a bit like staying at someone's house, with eclectic touches and soothing colors everywhere. Our room was small but clean and comfortable, with soft sheets, coffee, tea, dishes, a pretty sink, and a locking closet. My husband is tall and banged his shins of the bed frame a few times, oops! AC worked well. Parking was a bit confusing at first but was quickly sorted. Just park out front (feed the meter!) and check in. Get a parking pass and park in the lot around the corner. Easy! The passport bus picks up around the corner and runs in a continuous loop around Long Beach, stopping in touristy places like the Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, Seaside Village, and a whole lot more. Best part is that the Passport bus is free, so park in the lot and take the bus or walk nearly everywhere from the ideally located little hotel. read more

This hotel is beautiful. The owners have taken care in restoring and updating every aspect while keeping the character. Our room had towels that coordinated with the bedding and throw pillows. There was a coffee pot, wine glasses with a cork screw, a wall mounted tv, ceiling fan, ac unit, arm chair and cute little breakfast table. The owner offered to loan us bikes as well. There were cookies out on the main level. The price was excellent and the location was close to the beach. Parking was free. There are some rooms without bathrooms, but the communal bathrooms are beautiful. There was a single bathroom with a tub and shower on our floor and a multi-shower/bathroom on our floor. I would have been comfortable using both if we had selected a room without a bathroom. read more

Loved our stay here! In town to run the Long Beach Half-Marathon and this hotel was within walking distance of start. Initially that was the only reason I booked it but after our stay (to recuperate) my boyfriend and I decided this will be our 'home away from home' whenever we are in the area! The two young gentlemen at the front desk were friendly, helpful, and understanding. They made great recommendations for places to eat that were all within walking distance. We are both vegetarians and found great options. We booked a room with a private bathroom. The room was very comfortable with a microwave, small fridge, coffee maker, utensils, wine glasses, bottles of water in fridge (nice touch), and even dish soap! There is also a great shared kitchen, a separate space with computers and ample work space. Don't forget to sign the huge whiteboard in the lobby (they take pictures of them and put them in a book!). My mom came down to So Cal for a visit a few weeks ago. She usually stays with us, but our AC went out, and it's been really hot in LB this summer. So, I found that Hotel Royal was well-liked by fellow Yelpers, and decided to book her a private bath studio there for the week. Her room was on the 3rd floor, which means we had to walk up 2 flights of stairs, but it was good exercise! I guess they don't have an elevator because it was built in the 1920's. However, my mom was extremely happy with the friendliness of the staff, especially the excellent customer service of Cameron and Coralie. All of the staff were very welcoming, and whenever they saw her, they chatted and made sure she was enjoying her stay. It gave me peace of mind that everyone was so kind, and when I'd go to pick my mom up or visit there, the staff was hospitable, treated us like guests in their home, and always greeted us with a smile. My mom is already planning her next trip down to LB, and she's decided she wants to stay at Hotel Royal again! read more

I absolutely loved this place! Me and my best friend were looking for a nice spot near downtown and this was a perfect place. The rooms were a little small but didn't really matter it was super cute and comfy. You have to share a bathroom with a couple other guests but they were well taken care of and never a wait to use it. Staff were super friendly!!! This place is wonderful! They have made it really beautiful, and the customer service is top notch. The shared bathroom situation is fine-- we never had trouble using the bathroom/shower while we were there. The kitchen is so nice. Sometimes it's the little touches that make such an impression and this place was like that-- from the decor to the coffee and wine bottle opener in the room to the extremely helpful manager recommending yummy seafood and killer breakfast. I cannot believe this place has so many good reviews. Was it cute? Yes. Did it suit my needs for the moment, sure. However right from check in we were given strange looks, I made my reservation and when I arrived I tried to pay in cash the girl at the desk didn't seem to like that and asked if I could do card instead. My boyfriend walked in while I was paying and the girl looked nervous and scared like he had just walked into rob her. This really upset me but I already knew there were no other openings in the area for the time period we needed. We received a complaint the second day we were there! In many of the rooms you do not get your own bathroom just a sink, mirror combo. They have a small balcony towards the back that is decorated but the door is almost never open for you to use it. We had planned to stay for about three weeks or a month while we were looking for a new apartment, however one night my BF had a guest there while inward at work, they smoked in the room and we received a complaint next morning. Okay so we didn't really notice the no smoking policy, out fault. I apologized and bought all kinds of febreeze and gain products to freshen up the room and we did NOT smoke again in there but when we were booted from that room on a certain weekend when I guess that particular room was booked (they put us in a MORE expensive room for that weekend because of this no discount for inconvenience) we were told the woman who booked the room complained of a smokey odor, and we we asked TO LEAVE with no refund on the nights I had already paid for in advance. Also during my stay we were told we could borrow bikes from the lobby at no charge, I brought back a bicycle before the time they asked and nobody answered the lobby door, so I chained it up out front and called from my room, it was literally out for 2 minutes and when I came back downstairs I was met with disapproving looks and told there was a doorbell on the lobby door (that nobody had previously shown me how to use). Overall I was disappointed with our stay here, it's quite obvious they cater to older more conservative crowd and that's fine, but not the place for young adults or couples that is for sure. Save the hassle and maybe even a little money by looking elsewhere. read more

Exceptional experience. My girlfriend and I stayed in 3 different hotels over a weekend in Southern California and Hotel Royal provided the best customer experience of the weekend. Communication with Victor and Coraline was very quick, simple, and easy. Victor greeted us and offered to upgrade us at no cost due to low occupancy for the Sunday night which gave us our own private bathroom. Though this was a treat, I'm not sure a shared bathroom would have changed our experience all that much. The hotel is extremely well-kept, very comfortable, and extremely quiet for a city location. The location is very central with the ability to walk to a wide variety of restaurants, shops, etc. to check out. All in all, this easily tops the 1% of all hotel experiences I've had. There honestly isn't one negative thing to say about this place. It's super cozy and has everything you need in a great location at an amazing price. My room was a perfectly designed little studio complete with a little desk & chair area, sink & mirror, closet, microwave, fridge and freezer(major plus on that for frozen meals and desserts!) plus a closet, arm chair and direct TV and AC!! The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable(also a huge deal to someone who travels 265 days out of the year). I never had to leave my room unless I had to use the shared toilet or shower which were both immaculate. It's perfect. Most everything else can be done from your studio. They also offer a kitchen to cook meals in, free bicycles, free parking and free cookies. It's also very quiet. Even though they had no vacancy, you could not tell the place was full. With my window closed I never heard any street noise. It's honestly a perfect little place to stay. You are in walking distance to the beach and so many cool restaurants, cafes and bars. The aquarium is close by as well as a bike ride or cheap uber to Belmont Shore area. The owners and their son were all so pleasant and helpful as well. Check in and out was easy breezy as well. Like I said, not a negative thing to say. I checked out and have already booked my next stay!! read more

This is a hidden gem just 3 blocks from the ocean. The rooms are small but clean and tastefully decorated with IKEA furniture. The hotel staff/ family is what really makes this hotel great. They are accommodating, professional and friendly. Guests can choose rooms either with or without a bathroom. For my first few stays, I chose a room with a shared bathroom. The bathrooms are very clean and I appreciate the hotel for providing paper seat covers for extra sanitation. The hotel even provides a body wash and shampoo and conditioner dispenser. Although there are mini fridges and microwaves in all of the rooms, there is a full kitchen for use by hotel guests and 2 coin operated washers and dryers. The hotel is in an old brick 3 story building and they have exposed the old brick in several of the rooms, which gives it a unique flair. They even have 6 bicycles available for day use free of charge. I've stayed in many hotels and resorts and this is one you can't beat for the value, not to mention it is safe. It is also located within easy walking distance to the aquarium and marina. read more

This wonderful little gem is a terrific addition to the East Village! The lobby is lovely and there is a family style kitchen that guests can share if they want to cook their own meals. Complimentary breakfast is a great way to meet the other guests who come from all over the world.There is a conference room business center as well. On the 2nd and 3rd floors are the rooms. Each is different and very well designed. Each room has a mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. Most rooms have en-suite bathrooms but there are 3 rooms with sinks only and access to the 2 hall bathrooms. These have been beaurifully refurbished and are sparkling clean. There is rarely a wait for the huge shower either. The location is perfect in the midst of many great reataurants, access to bus and metro, walking distance to Pine Ave and Shoreline Village. The Aquarium and Queen Mary are on the FREE Passport Shuttle route a block from the hotel. This is a family business and the owners are on site to ensure that your stay is exceptional. i have lived at the Royal Hotel for almost 2 years. The ONLY reason I am moving is because I have been transferred for my job so I need to relocate closer to work. if I get transferred back this way I will b coming back here to live. This is the best place I have lived in my life. The managers Ed and Coralie are the best people ever. I felt like I was living with family. the common areas are cleaned weekly by a fantastic cleaning crew from the Clean Fairies. the rooms are furnished. there is a kitchen/laundry on site. the location in Downtown Long Beach is perfect. the beach is 2 blocks away, vons starbucks and the post office are a block away and walmart is 3 blocks. the bus stops across the street and the blue line metro is 1 block away.the Queen Mary is a short free bus ride across the harbor, the convention center and performing arts center and the Long Beach Aquarium are a short walk away. . there are plenty of things to see and do, cute shops along this street and a restaurant across he street. . if you are looking for a nightly, weekly or monthly place this is the place for you. The East Village is a wonderful part of Downtown, the cool ocean breeze is an added bonus. read more

ive been living at the Royal Hotel for over 7 months now. i love it here. it is a very comfortable place. the rooms are very nice and the beds are so comfortable you just dont want to get out of bed. lol its a quiet place. ive never heard any noise from my neighbors. the owners are the nicest people ever. they are available 24 hrs a day. any problems that you have they will fix immediately. the bathrooms are always clean and ive never had a problem with them being occupied when i went to take a shower. with people with different schedules living here it seems to work out perfectly. this is my permenant home. and its more of a home feeling than a hotel. the location is perfect. 2 blocks to ocean blvd. with the beach jus beyond that. 2 blocks from vons. 1 block from post office. and 4 blocks from walmart. and plenty of fine dining and cute quaint shops in the block. if your looking for long term or short term this is the perfect place. read more
