Ugh, I'm really conflicted. First, the location is amazing. It really can't be beat. I love the beach chairs and beach towels provided in the rooms. The front desk staff is very sweet. I feel like this hotel is going through a major renovation, and we stayed in the middle of it. I can tell that they're trying to update things - new floors, hallways numbers, some decor. But, the shortcomings outweigh the "trying". Our room looks like it was painted by a 5 year old. There's mold in the bathroom, holes in the wall, peeling paint on the ceiling, broken lampshades, rusty lamps and the balcony was very dirty/rundown. Even the pool liner was bubbling up in places. For over $300 a night (after $35/night for parking), this hotel just isn't worth it. If it was half, ok, you deal. But I feel very disappointed. I'm glad we spent more time at the beach than in our rooms. I did contact the hotel manager, but haven't heard back. read more

From the Moment we checked in, instant bad vibe. There was no one at the check in desk, and no one ahead of us. Finally after saying hello several times, someone came to the desk. We told the clerk that we were there to check in. And she said, okay, wait a moment and she disappeared into the back for several minutes. It was probably at least 5 to 10 minutes before she came back up. So we got checked in, Our room was filthy, the floors were sticky and I checked them with white washcloth and dirt all over the floor the cloth was black.with dirt.The balcony had nail clippings on it. No shampoo or soap several calls made to the desk on ourcelk. The ro phone didn't work. TV and no controllers. Trash was never taken out, hair dryer didn't work. No water pressure. I understand that 'location location location' allows people to charge way more than expected. However $750 for 2 nights at this hotel makes me feel violated. This was by far the nastiest hotel I have ever set foot in. I've been overseas while in the Army, in tents and it wasn't as bad as this. Everything is DIRTY, even the walls have food, mood, cracks, and rust... somehow. The fridge doesn't work, and the microwave takes twice as long as normal ones. I was terrified to sleep on the beds because of the condition of everything else. I kept feeling like something was crawling on me. Also, I don't feel safe because the locks and the cracks visible in the adjoining room. The location is the only positive thing about this hotel ( and the staff at check in Tonya was super sweet ) the hall ways are also kind of decent. Oh but only 1 of the two elevators works. Will never come here again. Ever. And I would strongly Advise unless you absolutely 10000% have to be on the beach.... go somewhere else. read more

We checked in late on a Thursday to a room that had no hot water. Got switched to a room with hot water that had not been sufficiently cleaned. No bath shampoo or body wash, dirty toilet bowl, .... Not what we were expecting for the price we paid. We had to ask SEVERAL times to get the room cleaned. Location is excellent. read more

What a horrible place to stay. Our first room wasn't clean and appeared as though someone was still there. Our second room smelled like cigarettes. I tried to ignore it with hope it dissipated. Tried to enjoy a few hours on the beach. Tybee has really turned into a Myrtle Beach with level of trashy . Upon return I pulled the bedding back to find the linens to be dirty. I said f$&k this and left. Got a nice hotel room for less than my night at Hotel Tybee in downtown Savannah for the night. read more

Nice beach hotel! A large group of us stayed for a week while in town for work. For a building with very close proximity to the ocean, it was very clean and orderly. The staff we encountered during our stay was very friendly, courteous and professional. Personally, anytime I am on Island, I will stay at this hotel....complimentary beach chairs and beach towels to use during your stay makes for less stuff to pack from home and is a really nice touch!! I will sum this up in three words. WHAT A DUMP. Ok, first of all our room was ready @ 1:00 vs 3:00 so we took the sucker deal and paid the extra $50 to check in early. Albeit the parking lot was empty and the hotel seemed deserted. So we get in our room after a food laden/puked stained ride in the elevator only to find a room with crumbled ceiling dust all over the desk/coffee maker, dingy walls, non working safe, and chirping smoke alarm. We called the front desk and they politely moved us to another room. By this time we were 20 minutes from original check in time so we stopped at the desk to see if they could possibly refund that $50 "early" check in fee. She refunded $25 and mentioned the rooms were because of a college festival that basically invaded the island. So we were subjected to the nasty aftermath. I get it, maybe not their "fault" entirely but they were not willing to be very accommodating for new business. We elected to leave even though we ate the cost. There may have been an overrun of young people but looking at the building itself , it's definitely a dump. Don't get suckered into the website and all the nice emails you get like I did. read more

I booked a few days for a wedding / long weekend getaway. I'm seriously underwhelmed - the room is ok but the bathroom is gross and way out of date - the tub was dirty, the faucet was loose and dripping water. The room wasn't serviced at all through our stay, even when I left the hang tag on the door requesting towels. I definitely recommend finding a different hotel if you plan to visit this lovely island! read more

I don't even know how to start in my review of this perfect getaway! This getaway has been planned for a while and we could not wait to get to the property! We arrived a little early and we were greeted with a smile and a perfect check in! The room we had booked was a ocean side and it was better than we expected, from pictures and we loved it! We loved the pool and did I say tiki bar as well! While we were there the GM even hosted a free drinks happy hour at the Tiki bar, and you cant make this up, saved a raccoon that had its head stuck in a peanut Butter jar. The beach , was great! Through our entire 4 day stay, I cannot thank the staff enough for a perfect stay! My wife and I cannot wait to book our return trip to this area and Savannah and hit those restaurants we might have missed! I know for sure we will be staying at Hotel Tybee! We were on vacation this last weekend. In this photo there is bed bugs but that's not all. There was mold in the bathroom and hairs. The towels were dirty with makeup and so was some of the bed sheets. Overall the whole room was dirty. read more

About a month out, my boyfriend and I needed a vacation... badly! I looked at every hotel, motel, Holiday Inn (pause for a giggle).... even looked at AirBnB, any thing that would get us close to the beach. Come to find out there's not a lot of locations that offer beach side views and access. Then, I found Hotel Tybee. Yes, it was a little more than we wanted to spend for 2 nights, but it gave us everything. It gave us a beautiful view of the beach and ocean when we woke up. We had an awesome balcony to enjoy the sunrise. We had the beach access literally across the parking lot. Shops, diners, restaurants, bars, etc. just around the corner. Couldn't ask for anything more. Prior to arrival email: Received probably the best email I've ever gotten prior to any stay. It was heart felt, with character, and included a list of must do's/ recommendations. Check-in: QUICK! we arrived around 11am, well before actual check-in time and our room was already ready! Check-in took about 5 minutes. Parking: Parking pass with a $15 daily fee (worth it! No other available parking). Don't park in the public lot, you will get a ticket. Saw the guy patrolling... like it's his job! oh wait... Rooms: bathrooms were just renovated. REALLY comfortable bed and pillows. Big screen TV. Balcony. Small fridge in the room with microwave. Includes a safe as well. Location: PERFECT! As stated above... Check-out: As quick as a phone call to the desk. Leave your keys in the room and they promptly send you an email with your invoice. This is a cute hotel.. the bathroom door needs tlc, but overall the perfect place to get away. Just be advised the hotel is not directly on the beach you have to walk thru a public parking area. There is only 1 hotel directly on the beach for the entire island. The rooms are large with beautiful views.. if u can ask for above the 2nd floor. It's got all the amenities you need and it's right infront of the beach! They have a little tiki bar and they give you free drink chips when you check in. Right across the street is a yummy icecream shop The room itself is clean but a little outdated and sometimes they have a problem with their card reader to get in the room. Kind of a pain getting my key then having to walk all the way back to the office that is separate from the building itself to get a new one. Also being woken up early in the morning to VERY loud maintenance work is also a major downside. Overall with the amenities, the room, and the view of the beach the price tag is not worth over $300 for a beach view room. You don't have to pay for parking though so that's nice! read more

Hotel is on near the beach but there is a large public parking lot between it and the dune crossovers. It is a bit of a walk to get to the crossovers. The room had stains in the carpet, the old metal trim in the bathroom was rusting and the shower/tub were in a bit disrepair not to mention the air conditioner would run for only 30 seconds or so before turning off, luckily we stayed during cooler nights so we left the balcony door open. They elevators were slow and the lights in one were not working, just hope that the button worked when you press it and wait maybe 15 seconds or so for the door to finally close. I was not overly happy with it as compared to the price. I will not be staying there again. read more

When one pays $350 for a room, for one night, (no matter the reviews) a certain standard of expectations are presumed. I understood this was an older beach front hotel that had been renovated. (By renovated, they should be specific that maybe the accent wall was painted, carpet replaced, a new tv added, and a modern mirror installed in the bathroom. I honestly have no idea what the room looked like prior because this was my first time- and likely last. But not much looked updated.) Had the room been priced at $75-$150 per night I would not be judging so harshly. Locks, doors, and safety are a minimal standard I expect, let alone for $350 per night. The front door of the north building where I stayed had a magnetic key card entry however the door was not locked and opened without me swiping my card. Sooooo unsafe. The doorframe to my room was not a tight fit to the door causing noises and light to leak through into my room from the hallway. The bathroom door was so swollen from humidity it could not shut. The glass door to the balcony did not latch completely and until I found the safety bar, I was scared to leave my luggage in the room because of how easily one could climb up the balcony from only one floor down to the parking lot. So $350 was apparently due to Labor Day weekend gouging and because of the ocean view. My view was mainly a parking lot (loud) and some shrubs on a sand dune and was not high enough a level to see much ocean. $350 did not include breakfast, because the breakfast is only Friday-Sunday. Walking into the room I was greeted with a bleach smell. Clean was my hope, but it was a very strong smell, and when I went to put my items down, I quickly noticed every surface was soaking wet as if a cleaning solution had been sprayed- but not wiped. The sheets were damp from humidity, the bathroom ceiling wet, counters wet, tables wet- everything pretty much wet. The room stayed on 65 the whole time to keep the humidity down. Yes there were 2 pools. Yes the beach was right outside and the pier very walkable and restaurants also within walking distance. I appreciated the mini-fridge and microwave in the room. The bed was comfortable once I got used to the moist sheets and loud air conditioner. Bottom line is, if you plan to be too drunk to notice the lack of luxury, wet surfaces, smell of bleach, and don't mind random non-patron people having access into your hotel building, this is the right place for you. I think I'll be trying a bed and breakfast next time. read more

We requested a renovated room with a full ocean view on the third or fourth floor. We stayed during the last week of February, so the hotel, beach, and town were not crowded. We had booked two nights and decided to stay a third night. We found the room and linens clean and the view beautiful. There is a parking lot and sand dunes between the hotel and the beach, but this did not impair our view. It was also a very short and easy walk from the hotel to the beach over a wooden walkway--maybe a two-minute walk. I would recommend a third or fourth floor room for an enjoyable view. The balcony had higher-sitting chairs, so you were not looking at the ocean through the railing. The front office staff was very friendly, and the maids were also very nice and helpful. The maids were hard at work every day, so I felt certain that our room had been thoroughly cleaned before our check-in. Our linens were spotless, and the room had a nice tv with options to watch Netflix, AmazonPrime, etc. There is a safe, coffee pot, microwave, refrigerator, two beach chairs, and beach towels. It had incredible water pressure. When we checked out, the manager took the call to ask us how our stay was. This is an older hotel that is being renovated, not a Hilton--but the charm of Tybee is that it does not have those chain hotels and restaurants. The four-star rating reflects that it exceeded our expectations. read more

I honestly don't know where to start, we were so excited to visit Tybee beach that we didn't do our research, we randomly picked a spot that we felt that was on the beach and walking distance to shops but not in the middle of it, Hotel Tybee seemed like a good spot, but..... it is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at on a beach anywhere!!! Hotel Tybee should be ashamed, honestly it's awful, it's more of a place where people go to party and don't care about cleanliness, or customers, or safety, or anything else other then how much money they can put into there pockets, the owner or manager of this hotel shouldn't be able to charge the amount of money per room that they do, it's definitely not worth it. Not only is the property littered with trash, but the property itself is old and crusty and not well maintained, the rooms are disgusting, paint peeling, carpets stained, walls caked with who knows what, doors broke, no security, and the pool is nasty with the bottom pulling up, and homeless sleeping in the public parking lot just outside our balcony. It was like staying in the hood, it says beachfront and I guess it is but it's more like public parking lot front then the beach. Public works came by every morning to clean the parking lot and feed the multiple stray cats we seen everywhere, but Hotel Tybee doesn't clean any part of the hotel grounds at anytime, trash everywhere, towels, clothes, liquor bottles, cups, you name it. Not sure if the owner of the hotel is aware or they just don't care, but for the money you need to do your research before going to Tybee, not all hotels are equal, definitely won't be staying here again!!! Place is super outdated and dirty. Staff are rude and disrespectful. The hotel is overpriced at almost $400 a night claiming to be "beach front", however there is a public beach parking lot right in front of the building. Well, my husband tried his best to book a hotel for our anniversary, and this was not it y'all. You can hear the people next to you VERY clearly. The room was a little small for my taste. The view was just ok. There is not breakfast. The part that I hated the most, was that the staff don't enforce people not making noise at night. They stood outside laughing, talking, and being drunk. Teenagers were having some kind of formal, so a lot of them was staying there. They weren't the problem though. It was the adults. My husband and I were about to go to sleep, around 12:30. A man and woman was talking in the hallway. The woman said "well if you would have let me dance, I wouldn't have been so drunk now." LOL. This is not the place to come to for a peaceful rest. It's next to many bars. This is more like a girl's weekend away sorta thing. My husband tried though, and I appreciate that. read more

A cheap motel experience at a luxury resort price: My daughter and I recently stayed here for several nights and were extremely disappointed with the experience. On the first night, we realized the room was filthy -- fairly certain they'd only changed the linens before we got there. The shower was also broken, but the very kind gentlemen from maintenance had that repaired very quickly. We literally begged for clean linens and housekeeping all day and finally got linens after 9 pm. I even stepped on broken glass left on the floor while the housekeeper was there and all we got was a linen swap. On the third day, they did finally sweep the floors after telling multiple people of my stepping on glass. We never saw housekeeping again the entire stay. Seriously, for the price, you'd think clean towels and housekeeping services would be a minimum! There were several other issues while we were there including the elevator breaking down, the internet and television going in and out, and water draining slowly from all drains. Besides a fantastic location and a couple of undervalued employees, this place has absolutely nothing to offer. We will definitely be spending our money elsewhere next trip. read more

I had to give this one some serious thought. The pictures on their website make it look way more glorious than it actually is. Pros... A very short walk to the beach. A patio. Cons...ONE small trash can in the entire room (in bathroom). One roll of TP, had to ask for additional TP twice. The lock on our door did not work. The patio was nice but there was a palm tree coming through the rails that needed to be trimmed, if you move your chairs to the other side you are near the AC out take that blows hot air. The rail was also loose and we were on the fourth floor. Pools are smaller than they appear in photos. No breakfast. Fridge was on carpet so it was hard to open the door.... with micro stacked on top, AND coffee maker stacked on top of that (not a genius idea!). They do have grills but on other side of property AND they are charcoal, you would think they would put that on their website. As much as they charge for a room, they could at least provide gas grills around the pool area or somewhere closer. The main door that actually goes into the hotel had a note stating hotel key was required for entrance... That was definitely not the case, it remained unlocked the entire time, huge safety issue! Especially with children. Drinks at the Tiki Bar are also overpriced and they were out of pretty much everything for smoothies. Brassrails is right next-door, along with numerous other hotels. Check them out first! Hotel Tybee is NOT worth the money, very overpriced! Definitely wouldn't stay there again. read more

Beware! Bait & switch advertising. Received an email from them announcing their annual $99 per night sale on rooms. The ad specifically states "any room $99, our best sale of the year, all rooms just $99 including rooms with an ocean view". Required a 2 night stay, and based on availability. We tried to book an ocean view room, that was available per their website and confirmed by hotel staff was available for 3 nights, at the advertised rate. We were told to that there were no rooms available at the advertised rate. "All" rooms and "any" rooms has a clear, universal meaning, that the hotel now refuses to honor. There are bait & switch laws. We have filed a complaint with the FTC and BBB. read more

BEWARE! Where to start?... The pictures posted online make it look like a quaint and nostalgic hotel right on the beachfront. Far from it! FALSE ADVERTISING!!! This is a good example of when you should listen to your inner voice from the start. Lightening struck the transmitter box while I was checking in and the hotel lost WiFi and some power. That was the first sign I should have run fast and far! The front desk staff was nice and accommodating by letting us check in early. Then, as we were getting our bags to check-in, two different women told us to check the beds because they discovered bed bugs and their kids were bitten. We debated leaving, but figured we'd check for ourselves. Second mistake. Getting into the elevator gave me an eery feeling every time that something awful was going to happen. The floor shook when the elevator approached and it jumped. We opted for the stairs. The room was awful. I could get past the dated look if it had been clean- but it was clear that there wasn't even minimal surface cleaning done. There was hair in places and the sheets were dirty- like someone just left the sheets on and pulled the comforter up after each stay. I got shocked trying to plug something into the outlet that was coming out of the wall! There was dust on the air conditioner that was about 1/8 inch thick and clearly there for a long time. This made no sense because there were three staff members in one room talking and checking their phones while they appeared to be cleaning a room. I had to hunt for them because there were only two towels for a reservation for 4! After thinking about it, I realized that the cleaning cart was bare and I hadn't seen sheets or towels on it. Usually carts are fully stocked. This was parked outside for appearance only. The guy went to a separate area to get them. I waited because he said he'd just let himself into the room and drop them off later. Um, no! We decided to give the hotel a try - only because we were trying to avoid the hassle of relocating- and left to go to dinner and the beach. Upon return at 10pm, as we were getting ready for bed, we discovered three (bed) bugs. I immediately called the front desk. The girl was very nice but said all she could do was refund my resort fee and move us. We moved to a second room, but then had to go to a third room right away because the door handle was broken and she couldn't get in. She was very apologetic. The next room was filthy and the handle to the shower was broken off and lying on the tub. It smelled of mold and mildew. We discovered more bugs. At this point, we didn't feel comfortable staying. It took several hours going between hotel staff and the third party booking agent before they agreed to relocate us to another hotel, which we gladly accepted. We left at 3am and drove 30 minutes to the closest hotel with availability, but we were never so happy! We were so disappointed that we didn't get the beach trip we wanted, but we got a much cleaner hotel and returned to the beach the next day and enjoyed it just as much as if we were staying there! My advice would be to stay in a cleaner hotel in Savannah and drive the 20 minutes to the beach. read more

Hotel Tybee has been a home away from home for me for the past 8 or 9 years. I have always had a great experience. This time I opened my fridge door it fell off. By time I had told the staff about it, it was replaced. The 2 lady's at the front desk went out of their way to help me fix my phone so I could have it working by time I left so I had GPS. Hotel tybee is in a great location. Many different restaurants and bars within walking distance. The pier is also within walking distance. From some rooms you can also have a great ocean view. This was the dirtiest hotel. Carpeting is nasty and we made sure that we wore shoes all the time. They charge you for everything including an "activity fee". I want to know what this includes because I am not sure. The bathrooms that were recently renovated were a joke. They are tiny and they look like someone threw on a coat of paint and called it a day. The bathroom was not clean when we arrived and I had to clean the shower of all the sand and hair that was left in it. Horrible place to stay. Dirty, run down, unhelpful staff. Hair was stuck onto the shower walls from the previous guests and when the bathtub wouldn't drain, the front desk sent someone to fix it. Rather than fix the issue, he poured some intense chemicals down the drain which caused myself and the other person staying with me to become sick due to the fumes. Instead of giving us a new room, maintenance just opened our balcony door and brought in a giant fan, leaving a disgusting flooded mess on the bathroom floor. Well into the night people were revving truck engines right outside our door and loudly playing music, with the hotel staff doing nothing about it. I found Hotel Tybee on a discounted website advertising a discount for the same day, so I decided to book it. Having never been to Savannah or Tybee Island, I wanted to stay at least one night as close to the beach as I could, and this place seemed like it would work. Check in was nice and easy. He asked if I needed any recommendations for something to do at night. When I asked for a recommendation on a place for good seafood though, he apologized and told me he didn't eat seafood. As it turns out, there is a delicious place right across the street from the hotel. I stayed on the third floor south tower overlooking the parking lot. The hallways and the room were much more modern than I expected, and the kick ass air conditioner was simply amazing! Seriously, I slept like a baby because it was nice and cold in my room. I tried for a late check out and called down to the front desk and asked if check out was 11. I was told yes. When I asked if I could pay for a late check out, I was told "No, it has to be 11" and then hung up on. I'm guessing I'm not the first person to ask this, but I can think of many ways to handle this better. All in all, I really liked this hotel. The close proximity to the beach, the room and it's amenities (and comfort of the bed) are just what I needed. read more

So disappointed by my families first trip to Tybee Island and especially with Hotel Tybee. The hotel looks nothing like pictures online. Apparently the hotel is undergoing renovations, however this was not mentioned anywhere online. The registration staff was extremely misleading about "the view" I was told 2nd floor had a "partial view" which he considered as a full view. Image my surprise, when I paid more for this "partial view" of the beach and what I got was a full view of a parking lot! The building is old, the exterior door to the building near the elevator did not lock. We saw a door for an Italian restaurant on the property but apparently it was closed as the door was locked at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. read more
