We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Tybee. Customer Service: Their customer service was exceptional from beginning to end. I called to adjust my reservation a few weeks after booking online. The employee was super friendly and helpful. I received an email a few days before our stay that included a map of the property with instructions about what building had the registration office and a letter from the General Manager. The email and letter had useful information which included a warning to drive at or below the speed limit due to the effective cops. Upon arrival to the hotel I was greeted by several employees. I was able to choose which floor I wanted a room on. We arrived around 5pm on a Friday. Every employee I came in contact with was friendly and helpful. From the employees at the front desk, housekeeping, and other employees on property. Rooms and renovations: I will be honest after reading the mixed reviews I was not sure what to expect from the hotel. The renovations to the rooms and hallways are really good. (See pictures) There are areas... elevator bays, registration desk (employee area) and parts of the hotel room bathrooms (tub)... that are not updated. I was very pleased with the renovations. The room had a very large tv (almost too big for the room, but go big or go home right?!?), dorm size frig, microwave, and coffee maker. We had a double bed room and it was a nice size. Location: The location is great! I did not move my car after checking in until we left after checkout. We walked to the beach, pier, restaurants, beach shops, convenience store (BP), and more within 3 to 5 minutes. We walked to a few things what were longer walks 5-10 minutes. There's a street with lots of resturants, stores, and bars near the pier and a few streets over from the hotel. The bars and restaurants have plenty of live music and DJs after 9pm which created a fun night life for us. There is a restaurant and Tiki bar onsite if you do not want to leave the hotel's property. Overall: I am so happy I picked this hotel. There were a few things I was looking out for after reading reviews.Our room's AC did not go off when we opened the patio door. The refrigerator worked fine. No leaks or issues in the bathroom. Good location. Great staff. Room is nice and clean. Due to covid, my husband and I brought clorox wipes with us for extra cleaning. Only down side was the smell in the bathroom in the mornings. The website boasted about the precautions they were taking at this location to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Upon check in I inquired about any type of requirements that we should be aware of I.e. masks in the elevators and hallways. The clerk shrugged her shoulders and said uh no we're not really doing anything. Super!! So glad to feel safe. They have hand sanitizer stations at the elevators that were consistently empty. So we go into our room and wipe/sanitize everything ourselves. I notice that we don't have any washcloths and call down to the front desk. They said they would send some up shortly and we never received them. The next morning I call to the front desk again to ask for more washcloths; again they'll be up shortly but never came. On the 3rd call the 2nd afternoon we received washcloths. The air conditioner leaked water all over the floor constantly to the point we had water squishing below our shoes when we walked anywhere in the room which then causes another concern for mold and moisture issues. I am reporting this hotel to the better business bureau as well as DHEC because the conditions are dangerous for anyone to stay in such an environment. read more

A bit underwhelming. It's close to the beach, and restaurants and bars, which is great. when I called to inquire about the partial ocean view, I was told my view might be "slightly blocked by sand dunes", however when we got there the view was mostly a parking lot. You can see the ocean though, and we visited the top floor and the view was still a lot of parking lot, so I'd probably save the money and stick with the partial view. Our room had been recently renovated, and it was pretty clean, however we were missing towels and toilet paper in our room when we got there and it took multiple calls and an hour to receive them. When we were leaving and looked to see if something had gotten dropped under the bed we found a dead cockroach. Gross. read more

Hotel Tybee is a dump! It smells musty and the carpet is discusting. We checked out the room before checking in and the ceiling in the bathroom had collapsed. They have serious water problems which is the reason for the musty mold smell. We refused to stay and went to Hilton Head, the difference is night and day. Don't waste your money!! read more

Again where to start!! Way over priced and way more than dirty!! When we complained we were given another room that was more dirty than the last ! The view of the beach is a parking lot and $300. A night is way over pricing for 3 people for such a nasty location. We requested a refund and left, driving all night to get home. Location is giving Tybee Island and bad name. Had a horrible experience when I got to the hotel. Problems with my room not being what I wanted. The carpet in the hotel is nasty. It's crowded and over priced just because it is off the beach. Parking is hard to find. The rooms were just really basic and I could've stayed somewhere for half the price with the same room. It was not a 1300 dollar room I expected it to be the best hotel on the island. Clearly it wasn't. So disappointing. read more

Good hotel. We stayed here last year and it will be a new tradition for my wife and I. Nice quiet and the staff is great especially for what the world is going through COVID 19. Thank you for having us and the beach towels and beach chairs are a great touch even though we didn't use them as a former hotel manager I look for improvements and or additions and the beach equipment was something that wasn't here last year. We usually rent a house on Tybee, but we chose the ease of staying right on the beach this year. The easy beach access and the price were the best two things about the hotel. We did have some issues with housekeeping because I think we were on a different schedule than most of the guests. We tend to get up early to go to the beach and then head back in around 3 or 4 to rest and get ready for dinner. However, the room was clean when we arrived and everything we asked for was accommodated, but we had to ask, for things like toilet paper, towels, and to receive housekeeping the 3rd day. We don't have children, but it seemed like those who did really enjoyed the pool area as well, which isn't typically an amenity at the rental homes on Tybee. I would stay here again, especially if it's just for a few nights. If we go for more than 3 nights, we'll be renting a house though. read more

Disappointed with safety and security level of this hotel. Front Desk staff was excellent, but there were not locks on the main doors into building, anyone could gain access to the floors. Yes..there is a sign posted that tells you to swipe your card, but there is a wide gap between the doors and obvious there is no lock or key card needed to gain entry. The hotel is going through a renovation, dumpsters in the parking lot and it looked as though the construction workers were staying in parts of the hotel. They would sit outside in the trucks in the evening smoking cigarettes. The lobby is not connected to the hotel building so we had to walk across this parking lot at night to go to the front desk or purchase a snack. The elevators and public areas were old and worn. Some of the rooms were updated but the bathrooms were not. I did email the management since my family did not feel safe as they had listed in their brochures and signs. read more

Stayed at Hotel Tybee for two nights. Good location with restaurants and bars within 5 minute walking distance. Room was pretty nice and had a balcony. Hallways and elevator were outdated and a little dirty. Buttons on the elevator did not really work. Part of our group got stuck on the elevator for 45 minutes. Went to the "lobby" where the front desk is(not attached to the hotel) and went to use the bathroom and was told we were not allowed to(on the door is says restrooms were for hotel guests) but she did not care. She was very rude about it. Overall for a good price I would still recommend. read more

Why oh why did I not check Yelp first?!?!?! Yes this place is way overpriced, yes it is filthy (toenail clippings on the floor), yes the hotel is run down. Was it worth it? No!! When we checked in I went to the lobby restroom, there were dirty underwear in the floor. Later in the elevator a man so kindly told us his grandkids had bedbugs. ( we saw NO sign of that). The hotel is huge. It has 2 pools and is right on the beach. It is a typical beach hotel, nothing crazy fancy but comfortable for relaxing. I stayed in a room with 2 queens beds. The room was a great size and had a flat screen tv, a fridge, and a balcony you can hang out on. The workers at the front desk were very nice, the one that checked us in even wrote down names of restaurants we should go eat at. read more

It took 3 tries to get into a room. The first one the door lock didn't work. The second on hadn't been cleaned, so finally we get into the 3rd one which was ok being hoe late it was and we were sleepy. Then we are woken up to construction overhead that we were not told about upon arrival. The walls and ceiling are paper thin so you can imagine how pleasant this was with a one year old trying to nap. Then we get to the tub and I had to hold the drain plug open because it wouldn't drain. All said unto this point not happy but at least we don't have bed bugs. So 2 A.M. the following nigh I am woken up to a fight in the hallway. Again paper rhin walls I might as well have been participating. For the money you pay this place isn't worth it. If I had wanted a springbreak experience in November I'd went to Myrtle Beach. The only pros are you are on the beach and Bob the night manager who personally checked our last 2 rooms once we had the first issue. Buyer Beware - This place is not at all what it appears to be online. I'm a seasoned traveler and I am pretty realistic and understand that not every place you book will be everything you expect but this place was beyond disappointing. As a surprise for our wedding anniversary, I booked a trip with the first half in Tybee and the second half at another hotel in Savannah. Don't get me wrong, Tybee is wonderful.... This review is strictly on the Hotel Tybee - not the Island. When I booked, I was willing to pay the extra money for the king, ocean view room, thinking we could have wine on the balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. We drove down from Atlanta and got in around 9:00pm on Friday night and immediately realized that the marketing material for this hotel is very misleading. If you look at the photo of the hotel on their website, it appears to be sitting on the beach. What they don't show in their photos is that behind the sand dunes is a huge city parking lot that remains open to the public at all hours. All those pricier ocean view rooms and every room facing the ocean actually has a balcony that hangs out over this parking lot. Your actual view is a lot full of cars, dumpsters, and a bunch of port-o-pots. Don't expect any romantic evening chats on the balcony overlooking the beach... what you get is noisy car radios and pedestrians walking in this parking lot at all hours. To make matters worse, the hotel, while not "officially" hosting this event had most of their rooms booked by members of this huge event called "Orange Crush" so there were 20 somethings roaming the halls, doors hanging open, and people hanging off balconies and yelling back and forth from the parking lot. We didnt sleep until after 3AM both nights. The hotel had hired security for this event, which was basically a guy in each hotel tower checking armbands which they made all guests wear for the duration of their stay to get into the buildings. That didnt stop friends of guests from going in via the ground level balconies. The parking lot attendant for the hotel and these hallway monitors treated us like we were part of this big party and not like a couple who had just paid for a relaxing weekend at the beach. The rooms in the hotel have walls that are paper thin and we could hear conversations in other rooms and because of a huge gap in our door that allowed light to flood into the room, we also smelled pot the whole weekend because there was no one stopping the smoking in the halls and these rooms, even though many of the doors were hanging open. The hotel is actually two large towers but the office is in a totally separate building by itself and doesn't face the guest room towers. Because they are isolated, they are not as aware or in touch with the actual noise or activity that takes place in the towers. There is no breakfast provided or offered at this hotel and nothing that makes you feel like they want guests to feel welcome or to make a return stay. I think they do the bare minimum and expect the ocean to be the primary draw. The Orange Crush event was a huge issue for us but, ultimately, it was the managements handling of my complaint and their overall attitude and lack of empathy that make it clear that they are interested in your money and not your satisfaction with your stay. The manager, Donna, basically argued with me on the phone and told me that I should have left a day earlier and had I complained earlier, she would have been able to rent my room to any one of the member of the Orange Crush party (the same party that had the sponsor arrested for trashing a rental home on Tybee that same weekend). I could go on about the overall experience but the bottom line is that this hotel is not at all what you want if you are hoping for a relaxing weekend on beautiful Tybee Island. My overall experience and interactions with the management and their misleading marketing photos really tarnished my impression of this place. The hotel did it's job...i was able to sleep in a comfortable bed in an air conditioned, clean room right next to the beach. Glorious it was not. For the price, they need to try renovating the interior of the rooms, as well as some of the common areas. The sliding door in our room had a useless lock, but we were on the third floor, so if someone was determined that would have been an easy room. There was also no hot water...unless you waited through 3 people to shower...that was weird. But whatever, at least I was able to warm up with towel action. The safe also didn't work, which I needed and couldn't. Side note: if you have more than one car for your room, you still have to pay $30 for each vehicle parking in their lot. Better coffee pots would be nice, and for the price (again) at least a continental breakfast, since local breakfast options take forever to get into. read more

My friends and I have been planning this trip since about January but didn't want to book a place to stay until closer just to make sure we had the finances available. In the beginning of June, Hotel Tybee was one of the only hotels available for our dates. We booked and were set to celebrate my birthday and friendship on Tybee Island! We've been here for 4 nights/5 days and we are VERY disappointed in the quality of the hotel for the price we had to pay. The pictures on the website make the hotel look so much better than it really is. I'll start with pros: it's a very short walk to the beach. It's also close to some of the little gift shops and restaurants. The cleaning staff is super friendly. There is a full length mirror in the room. AC is cool and stays cool and will keep your room cool. Beds are super comfy and the TV is a good size with decent cable options. The front desk staff were also very nice. Now for the cons: the door of our balcony did not close all the way (we're on the third floor instead of the first, so at least security wasn't a total issue). The coffee maker was absolutely disgusting. There were holes in the curtains and wires were hanging out from the bottom of the A/C unit. You're better off using mobile data instead of the WiFi because the Wi-Fi is super slow and tends to not work at all. We were not allowed to check in before 4PM. There was no do not disturb sign available in our room. The bathroom is very small and not very well ventilated. You're given a token when you check in for the tiki bar that covers "alcoholic (nothing top shelf) and nonalcoholic drinks", when we went to redeem them, the woman working at the tiki bar was very short and not very kind. The tap was also out all of the sodas my friend asked for for his drink. They give you maybe a $5 discount on parking, but are still charged about $25 a day to park (their regular pricing is $30 a day for non-guests). There is no breakfast included or even as an add on option. Only the second and fourth floors have drink vending machines and they didn't dispense the right drink. My friend selected sprite and received a Diet Coke. The outtake for the AC is located on the balcony which makes half of the balcony not even usable. The water pressure in the shower seems kind of low, especially when using hot. The elevators seem very dated. There were only 2 chairs available on the balcony for a 4 person room. It also doesn't seem that they clean around the furniture well and we noticed that one of the beds actually had some stains on the side of the box spring. There's not enough seating inside for four people to sit and hang out without sitting on the beds. There's no workout room and both pools are located in odd places outside. The microwave and fridge placement was odd. For some reason, the freezer part of the fridge would defrost on its own and leak onto the carpeting. The trash cans (one next to the fridge and one in the bathroom) were unreasonably small, even when we had the trash emptied every day, they were completely overflowing by the end of the day. In conclusion, it's way too expensive for the quality of this hotel. We spent close to $1,000 for our room for as many nights as we stayed there. We are not likely to return to this hotel in the future unless the pricing is adjusted to fit the quality or the hotel is actually updated to reflect their pricing. read more

You place the card on your door and they are suppose to leave them for you. They don't, they just remove the card. For $300+ a night, stay anywhere else. read more

This was our first time staying here, recommended by my brother and his fiancé. We were on the 2nd floor ocean view, would love to stay higher next time. Loved being able to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise, and look out into the ocean. Walking distance to the pier was a plus also....Not having to drive. We drove from Atlanta and didn't get there til 11:30 on Thursday night, and were very tired. Wish I could remember the lady's name who checked us in....She was awesome! Everyone we met was so full of personality and extremely friendly....Loved that! Our only complaint, and I know y'all are working on it, is the bathrooms. The toilets didn't flush real well and you had to hold the handle down, then give it time to refill. Other than that, we had an amazing time here. We will definitely be back again. ....We love Tybee/Savannah....Even considering moving here. Thanks for a much needed vacation with my husband. read more

The beds were actually comfortable And the room was clean. However... his hotel has Marriott & Hilton prices but Motel 6 & Days Inn accommodations... and NO breakfast included! Not even a day old croissant! We were here for a wedding and had family staying in other places on the island. Most paid the same price I did! I am rating this hotel at four stars because of the value it was for my stay. The grounds and room are very basic. I wouldn't consider this place for a romantic getaway, but it was perfect for our guys golf trip-- right on the beach, walkable to many restaurants & bars, and close to Savannah golf. The hotel shows its age somewhat, but it was overall clean & fairly priced, in my opinion. Really the physical hotel is a 3-star, and the amenities of the immediate area are 5-star. You should know that this hotel charges for parking-- like $20 per day. I saw a patron complaining about what she felt was a hidden fee. My husband and I stayed at Hotel Tybee for 10 days recently, October 24- November 2, 2015. I was concerned because the hotel was not open last year when we visited Tybee or at least from what we saw it didn't look open. I had been in touch with Brett the manager a few months before our planned vacation. I was looking for a hotel that was central to the beach and had a restaurant. He told me that he was expecting someone to sign a restaurant lease shortly, and kept me up to date on it. As he expected La Dolce Vita signed a lease an opened prior to our vacation. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and well taken care of. After parking in the HUGE lot, we found our way to our room without any issues and unpacked. We had a king room with ocean view. It was very nice and the balcony was wonderful to sit out in the morning drinking my coffee. I was able to take pictures of the sunrise and listen to the ocean. The hotel has 2 pier areas to cross the dunes and access the beach. A short way down is the big pier that has fishing areas, a bar, food, and ice cream concession. By the pier there is the Marine Science Center and around the corner is shopping and dining areas. It's all within walking distance. You don't have to drive unless you want to the hotel is centrally located to everything. After the 10 hr. trip we decided to check out the new restaurant bar for a drink before turning in for the night. It is very comfortable and overlooks the beach. The staff was very nice and talked about their experience opening the restaurant. If you go to Tybee stay at Hotel Tybee. I read the other reviews and feel that if the people had issues with the hotel and spoke up about it, that the management would have taken care of them. They are still doing renovations and we were told about it. There were no surprises at all. The room was nice and the staff was attentive. The Sunrise is great for breakfast especially on the weekend when they have a buffet. A good time to be had is at Frannie's on the Beach. If the upper level is open, go there! Eat at the Crab Shack at least once, if not more. The best area to find shells is North Beach. Try to take a dolphin cruise and go on Dr. Joe's Ecology trip. There's also a book written by Harry George Spirides whose family managed the hotel during some of its transitions. It has a lot of the history including pictures from his family, other families and the historical society. We had a great vacation. read more

Upon first arrival front desk staff was very nice and architecture of hotel looked great. After parking, our first view was of a couple of guys loudly shotgunning beers from their balcony, which should have been our first indication that things wouldn't be great. The inside of the hotel looked very dated and felt like it belonged in The Shining. Our room smelled immediately like must and mildew, was freezing cold, not clean, and the furniture looked old, worn, and rusty. The walls were so thin you could hear the neighboring hotel guests. We had also opted for a "partial beach view", but were surprised to find out that our view was of a public parking lot instead. Our AC unit was very noisy. The longer we stayed, the more we realized how gross this hotel truly was. Our pillows were not only tiny, but full of mildew and nasty stains. Once ready to go to sleep, I pulled back the covers to find what felt like sand in our supposedly "clean" sheets. Outside, the sidewalks were dirty and full of cigarette butts and other garbage. We ended up leaving a night earlier than booked with no refund. After staying here, I can see why they have a "no refund" policy... if they gave refunds, they'd never make any money because everyone would want to leave immediately! So we ended up basically throwing away $164... This hotel was definitely overpriced for how crappy it is. Save your money and stay in Savannah and just make Tybee Island a day trip if you feel you must go. We're just hoping we didn't get bedbugs from this hotel. read more

I paid $200 for an ocean view room; I could see the ocean but between the hotel and the ocean was a public parking lot. Dirty carpet, broken shower. There was nothing redeeming about this place. I wouldn't recommend it at all. We only stayed two nights. For starters, they charge a $60 destination fee (includes Wifi, beach chairs, pool access, bicycles, etc). They charged us when we couldn't even use any of it except the Wifi. It rained the entire weekend so we couldn't use the pool, it was closed anyway. We didn't check out the bicycles, it was raining. We couldn't use the beach chairs, again, it was raining. We shouldn't be charged for what we don't/can't use. The fee should be optional or it should be in portions for what you do use at least. Secondly, we were settled in our room and realized the heat wasn't working only for them to tell us they made a mistake and put us in an out of service room. We had to pack up and move to another which is of much inconvenience. On top of that, our sink was stopped up. You couldn't let it run for 10 seconds without it filling to the top. Thirdly, our room was not cleaned thoroughly, clothing articles from previous guests were left in our room which showed that it wasn't cleaned properly at all. At check out after bringing this to their attention, I was only given $30 back, ridiculous. Oh and the picture about the hotel being across from the beach, is a LIE. There's a high sand hill that blocks the beach view and it looks nothing like the picture. All in all, I'm only giving them two stars because I was able to have a place to stay. We came to Hotel Tybee for a short weekend getaway. This is our first visit to Tybee Island. My husband booked an Ocean front room. We were put on the 4th floor, room 418 in the North building. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. The bathroom was in serious need of updating. You could see the rusty bar that ran along the underside of the sink counter despite being covered by a piece cheap plastic that still had the UPC sticker attached. The air conditioner was rusting out on the bottom left and was actually leaning slightly downward on the left side. The sliding glass door did not lock but had a safety bar that prevented the door from opening from the outside. I'm giving this hotel 3 stars because the staff was very friendly and courteous. My husband asked to move us due to being awaken in the middle of the night by very loud neighbors (not the hotel's fault) and within the hour, we had a new room in the south building. That building also needs updates but is not in quite as bad shape. However the door to the building does not lock. Anyone could walk in. I read a response by the general manager to another review that the hotel is undergoing renovations. I hope you all continue to improve. There is much to be done to make this worth the price we paid. I called the front desk (around 12:32PM) regarding a charge that shouldn't have been charged to my debit card since I canceled my room 72 hours prior to my book in date. Instead of helping, the lady at the front desk was EXTREMELY rude for no reason when I was simply trying to explain the situation. She cut me off while I was talking and had an attitude. Wow. We got here 1 hour ago. Not what we expected for $300 a night but you live and you learn. I just don't even know what to type at this point except we are literally thinking about sucking up the $600 we paid on this place and just going back home for a staycation. I feel worse for my wife because she's pregnant and doesn't have the opportunity to get drunk to deaden the disappointment. read more

The Ritz Carlton it isn't. I'm not sure where the renovations were because it wasn't our room or the carpet throughout the hotel. Plaster was peeling off our tub. There was only one small trash can per room which makes it difficult because there is no daily cleaning service. Overall cleanliness would be a C minus. The pools were nice but only 2 of the tables had umbrellas. It definitely was not what I expected. One positive was the elevators worked. read more

This hotel was like a student in the school who didn't apply himself and basically just did the minimum to get by the bathrooms were all dirty no one comes and gets the garbage. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all it's a shame because it's in a very prime location if they spend a little money maybe it be a nicer place to stay I would never recommend this place to anyone since every bathroom the sink drain smells like a toilet every time you flush it no one wants to respond to any issues and everyone here seems to hate working here as much as people hate staying here. read more

Awful. Avoid at all costs. The only good thing is that it has parking by the beach. However, our overpriced hotel room was not ready when we checked in at 6:30. We were given the keys and told it was ready but got to the room to find the door being held open by the security latch. I called the front desk and was told housekeeping still needed to come. We waited in line for 20 minutes to check in. We were given free drink tokens to use at the tiki bar, which was closed and will not open until after our stay. Overall awful place to stay and will not return or recommend to anyone. read more
