We purchased a Groupon for this restaurant. We weren't expecting much but it was a steal so we bought it. WOW! Why didn't we buy two of them. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. Lunch for four was $35.00 so not too bad. The place is small so be patient and don't be a whiner about it. You might have to opt for take out BUT.., so worth it. What a cute find! Came here on a random weekday afternoon after apple picking at Linvilla Orchards, had no idea that downtown Media is so adorable. We sat outside and enjoyed: the soup of the day, black bean with goat cheese which was really well seasoned; I had the Earl Grey iced tea and thought it was crisp without being bitter; El Nino, the avocado works really nicely in the chicken salad; a salad that had a well balanced tuna salad on it. If I was just going to rate the food, this place would definitely get 5 stars. I've had almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The tomato soup is a bit too salty for me, but the potato curry soup is fab, so is the gazpacho in warmer weather. They have awesome iced coffee too. It's very small so if you come during lunch rush don't expect to get a table, opt for takeout instead. The food is worth fighting the crowd for! Sometimes you can snag one of their outdoor tables which is cool. There are only a couple things about this place I don't like. The first is their drink selection. I guess they want to keep things "organic" but it would be nice to be able to get a Coke sometimes. For the most part, the staff here rocks! Not sure of their names, but there are 3 people that usually seem to be working. The bearded guy is always pleasant to deal with and is more professional than the two girls I've seen. The smaller girl is quiet but seems to know what she's doing. The heavyset girl is always rude and acts like customers are bothering her. My boyfriend and I usually try to peek in and see who's working before we go in. If it's the bearded guy or the thin girl, we go in. If it's the heavier girl we find another place to eat that day and recommend you do the same. read more

House has an amazing menu, nice service, and it's really cute and homey on the inside. The word wholesome isn't even a word I use often but somehow it is the first word that comes to mind...its just super quaint and adorable!! I went for brunch after seeing Bittersweet was too crowded, and I realized House was an equally delicious substitute. I loved how many great options they had. Everything looked delicious and definitely had much more than just boring eggs and toast. I got the shakshuka and it was really good! The presentation was cool as well. I went with a friend who doesn't love breakfast food too much and she found something for herself easily too, since the menu had so many options. The service was so nice and super attentive, they kept asking if we wanted coffee refills tons of times. I loved House and will definitely be back! read more

Just finished our brunch at House and it was amazing yet again! Came from out of town and discovered this place a week prior and had to come back. We had the full Monty French toast, AM burrito, & special home fries with green onion and hollandaise that were out of this world. Food is delicious, staff is friendly and the art on the walls and windowsill decor makes this place my new favorite in Media. Also they are byob and extremely accommodating :) read more

Well, I went to house this morning (7/5/2015). I'm feeling a little uncomfortable about writing this review please stop if you are squeamish or eating. I ordered the classic grilled cheese and tomato soup. Food tasted fine but I started to feel ill immediately. We were seated by the bathroom which was occupied the whole time, perhaps by a fellow diner similarly affected. I started sweating profusely and excused myself while my girlfriend paid the bill. My innards felt like they were occupied by hive of fiery snakes who had eaten tainted sandwiches/soup. I stood by my car which was parked across Baker St. The car was framed perfectly in the restaurants window from where I was previously seated. Service was slow with the bill and I could not wait. This slow service later saved my girlfriend from seeing that which can not be unseen. I had moments to make a decision or one would be explosively made for me. As a man of action, knew that action must be (shamefully) taken. I backed up the car so I was not directly in window and SHIT IN A TARGET BAG IN MY CAR. I saw another man leave the restaurant and wedge himself between two cars in a furtive manner. I assume he also had food poisoning. Sorry pizza place next door's dumpster I have nothing against you. PS the interior looks like it was done on some bad early 2000s home renovation show and never changed. Could have been inspired by TV show "friends". read more

locally grown, fair trade, organic...oh my! ...and delicious, too! house makes working in the suburbs worth it....well, sort of. ok, not really. but it is such a treat to have this charming & tasty cafe nearby to help me break up the monotony of the work day with a freshly tossed salad, a perfectly grilled panini or a cup of one of the best tomato soups i have ever had. thank god they offer the duo/trio specials as it saves me from having to choose just one each time i go in!! the best thing about house is the freshness. just today, the owner was commenting how excited she was for spring - not because it is dreadfully cold out right now - but because of the new vegetables that would soon be available for them to begin reintroducing into their ever-changing menu. there was a short-lived "gazpacho drought" over the summer which the owner explained as being due to sub-par tomatoes. these people hold out for the good stuff, and i appreciate that. ps. i highly recommend the veg-head panini :) read more

I think it used to be much better a few years ago, but now the portions just seem small, service is slower, no sides or extras, burnt french toast with no whipped cream or toppings. I'd recommend Bittersweet Kitchen down the street instead. read more

Thank you, House. Thank you for being a bright light in my day of torture (i.e. jury duty). I needed to pick up a quick lunch during my short jury duty break and House completely came through. The place is simply and beautifully decorated. The host was very friendly and helpful. He reassured me that my food would come out quickly...and that I would still make it back in time for court (I guess the red button gave it away). I decided to go with the King Kahn panini and it was absolutely delicious. I am definitely going back and hopefully this time I can enjoy my food at a slightly slower pace. read more

One word, perfect. I hate walking into a specialty sandwich shop or cafe, and find myself staring at a bloated, long, and utterly exhausting menu. It is at this point that I usually ask "Well what would you recommend?" This place serves a basic amount of sandwiches, all very interesting to say the least, like nothing I have seen anywhere else. Who would think a grilled cheese tasted good with apples? But now, after eating one with apples, I can't fathom having another grilled cheese without them. Why do everything okay, when you can do a few things GREAT? This should be the slogan of House, because it certainly is the way they designed their menu. The Jersey Joe, a wonderful panini on artisan rye bread. Crisp, fresh, delicious. The key to any sandwich is the bread, and House make's sure to use only the freshest locally baked bread (From a bakery whose name escapes me at the moment). The tomato soup is freshly made, with real organic tomatoes, served steaming hot. The place is literally a hole in the wall, but very cozy, especially on a cold, wet day. I wouldn't call it House, it's more like Home, because you feel right at home when eating there. The gentleman who served us was extremely gracious and courteous, and I could tell he was very proud of the work they were doing there. Small business pride is something that gets lost in the monstrosity of the big chain restaurants. What else can I say? This place rules. read more

Of all the places I've eaten in Media, this is by far my favorite I think. The first time I went, they had two, count 'em TWO, tables, it was so tiny! Most recently they've added some more tables and rearranged a little bit, but its still small and very intimate. The above comparison of sitting in someone's kitchen is highly apt. The food is always excellent, and the staff (well, the one guy I always see working there.) is extremely nice. I've yet to have any of the salads or soups there, but if they're anything like the paninis, I'm sold! The paninis are fabulous, my favorite is the Veg-Head. I'd recommend that, and this cute little place, to just about anyone! read more

I honestly don't know why I've been to House more than once in my life. Pass up on the salads because they sprinkle the ingredients so lightly that you question whether they think the meal is for a baby or a small field mouse. Mostly lettuce. I got the winter salad last time (2014) and they forgot the almonds. I asked the waiter and he was all "no, there's no almonds on your salad". Ten minutes later he comes back and is like "OH I'm sorry you're right, I will bring them out". Dude, we were already done our meals by the time they came out! I went again a few weeks ago with a friend that wanted a Jersey Joe. That sandwich's main feature is so totally the bacon! All right, I admit, its a good panini with the bacon and the cheese all greasy and delicious. Too bad when the order came out, the cook forgot to add the bacon. Seems the waiter was confused at the request for the bacon when she called him over. LEARN the menu! It really works out better that way kids! The baked potato wedges were pretty sloppy and covered in oil. I wouldn't get them again. Atmosphere is a plus, I really like the new layout and the simple design. I don't know what the kitchen looks like though. I hope gloves are worn. Cheers! read more

So I realllllly wanted to love this place. They played great music, the food was awesome, and they display local art, which I absolutely love- and not just "local art", but really beautiful pieces. However, my mom and I stopped in for brunch on a Saturday and were seated directly in front of the doorway to the kitchen/the hostess station, so someone bumped the back of my chair every time they walked by. Also, being next to the kitchen, which was obnoxiously loud, I couldn't relax and enjoy the homey, hip atmosphere of the place. The service also was pretty bipolar- the waiter was sort of nice, the hostess was over the top bubbly, and one of the servers who came over to ask how we were doing was so soft spoken she had to lean in close enough to kiss me so I could hear her. My panini was great, but i'll sit outside or order out next time. read more

So disappointed by our recent experience at House. Both food and service were WAY lacking. It was my 2d time there - the first was with a group of 7 friends about a month ago, when we shared small plates and a few entrees (all were good but the sweet potato gnocchi which were chewy and awful - TraderJoes frozen are light years better!). But I digress..... Back to my most recent dinner with hubby.... Arrived on a busy Friday night for our 7:30 reservation for 2 and were seated by about 7:45. Had wine opened (byob is a plus!) and bread on the table by about 8, and ordered right away. Our waitress asked if we wanted bread with olive oil, to which we enthusiastically said Yes! -- but she instead brought butter, mumbling that the kitchen was serving it with butter tonight (ok, strange, but we barely blinked, not realizing this was a sign of more oddness to come). We ordered right away: 2 salads, meatloaf for me and pork loin for him. The salads (mine was arugula, his was the house) arrived within 15 minutes or so and were very good- not large portioned by any standard, but fresh, perfectly doused with homemade dressing. After they were cleared, we waited for about another 45 minutes -- it was now almost 9:00 --until the entrees came, without any visit from our waitress. We finally flagged her down and asked her to check on our orders, and bring more bread - this time it came out with an herbed olive olive! About 5 minutes later she brought the food. My meatloaf (mixed with kale) was not a "loaf" slice, but fell apart, more like shepards pie in texture. I didn't mind the texture because the taste was really good, but it was unevenly heated, with hotspots and cold (yes, cold) spots, as though it came right from the microwave. When i complained, the manager/host assured me the restaurant doesn't even own a microwave. Well congratulations for simulating a microwave's failings. Hubby liked his dish. I just can't understand why the food we ordered would take so long to prep and bring out - the pork and meatloaf obviously had to be pre-prepared. Guess their timing was way off. To their credit, they offered free dessert, and when we declined they took $10 off the bill. House has some major kinks to work out. Overall, it wasn't worth the wait, and we're not likely to return (at least on a busy night). read more

My boyfriend was visiting from out of town, and having been disappointed by other local breakfast offerings, we decided to try House. Our meal was DELICIOUS. I ordered the Full Monty, which was French toast with melted swiss cheese, bacon and sriracha maple syrup to pour over the top. My boyfriend ordered the brisket with poached eggs and home fries. The brisket was so tender and flavorful. The bottomless coffee was also delicious, and our server friendly and efficient. House has become my new favorite dining establishment. read more

House is overall a good place to grab a quiet meal. My husband and I both got salads that tasted nutritious and filling.

I think the best question to ask is, what happened here? What was once an adorable, cozy lunch spot, which I was excited to see expand has gone completely downhill. The seemingly "Restaurant Impossible" makeover it received with the expansion has turned this once hipster-ish sandwich stop into an awkwardly uncomfortable dine-in experience with sub-par service. I have been twice since the makeover and after the second time with literally non-existent service (we left because after we were seated outside, the waitress came once in 20 minutes to take a drink order and never returned), I will never be returning. It's a real shame because their sandwiches had a unique twist and their tomato soup was a hit for me. But if you can't get service, how can I even distinguish if the food is worth it? We were pleasantly surprised with our experience at House. The service was great. We ordered hummus as an appetizer and I loved it (and I'm usually not a huge fan of hummus). I ordered a panini, which I really enjoyed. My significant other ordered the Harvest Grilled Cheese which we both loved as well. If you're the type that likes to enjoy a sandwich now and then, you might have heard the saying, "The bread makes the sandwich." Here in Philly, we're especially aware of this fact. Take the city's signature sandwhich, the cheesesteak, for example: at Tony Luke's, you get a crisp yet supple roll, the perfect canvas on which to paint the artery-clogging delight of a wiz-wit. Yet these same flavors, when served within a soggy or weak roll, are completely nullified by the poor texture. Weak roll, weak sandwich. House understands this principle better than any other panini spot I've visited. The bread on my Southwestern - two perfectly toasted, crunchy, yet forgiving slices of what tasted like a subtle sourdough - made the sandwich, plain and simple. Not to say the other flavors were merely incedental - the thick slices of fresh turkey, fresh red peppers, smoky cheddar, punchy bacon, and light and sweet chipotle roumalade all danced together to create what was pretty close to a perfect panini. The location ain't bad either. On warm, sunny days, the al fresco dining out front is something to savored. So go sit, take your panini in one hand, your Orangina in the other, and enjoy Media's House. You won't be disappointed. read more

Cute little lunch nook in media. Came here for a girls lunch one thursday and we really enjoyed the place. It is a bit small and the tables are close together but it gives it a very quaint feel. It was perfect for a casual lunch and they had a nice variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. I had the buffalo chicken panini (I forget the name of it) and it was very delicious and the tomato bisque which I didn't love but I'm picky about tomato bisque. The girls I was with enjoyed their sandwiches and soups and we shared the pound cake for dessert, yum! read more

I was REALLY excited to try this place after the rave reviews, but I have to say I'm disappointed. I felt the food was overpriced for what it was. The house salad was so plain with hardly any walnuts, and the house dressing seems to be just olive oil and balsamic...not very special! The veg-head panini was decent, but the focaccia didn't hold up when toasted and crumbled in my hands when I was trying to eat it, creating a huge mess. I'm not sure if that's just the nature of focaccia when it's toasted, but I expected it to be softer and hold together. Out of the 2 staff members I encountered, only 1 was polite. The other just snuck furtive glances at me while making my food and then grumbled, "Excuse me," when passing by me to get something out of the fridge. Too bad. read more

Nice place to go for brunch. We bring champagne and usually order the eggs benedict. It's usually very good, sometimes though it tastes different. That is the only reason i took away a star. I definitely recommend trying it out. read more
