I had a really disappointing experience here. I ordered the Baja omelette with wheat bread, and literally immediately after ordering, I asked if I could change the type of bread. I specifically asked if that was okay, and the change was made before my food had even been prepared. I paid and stepped aside to wait while there was a long line behind me. I then watched as the customers who had ordered after me were served, while my order was made last. When I finally asked why my order was taking so long, I was told directly that it was because I had changed the bread type. I found that response very frustrating, considering I changed it immediately and before they had even started preparing my order. I completely understand if changing an order after preparation has started causes a delay, but that wasn't what happened here. A simple bread change made right away shouldn't result in a customer intentionally being placed behind an entire line of people who ordered afterward. The way the situation was handled and communicated made the experience unnecessarily unpleasant. read more

Love house of bagels. I'm usually there to grab a bagel for breakfast, but today I decided to try one of their sandwiches. I ordered the turkey on a sun dried tomato bagel. Yum. It has fresh turkey, onion, cucumber, mayo, sprouts and mustard. They toasted the bagel to perfection. If I was in Concord more often, or if I lived here, I would definitely go to House of Bagels every morning. It's such a nice place to eat breakfast or even lunch. Probably one of the best shops in Todos Santos Plaza, this place is famous for it's bagels. They make their bagels fresh every day. They don't just have plain normal bagels. No, they've also got jalapeno bagels, wheat bagels, sesame bagels, and the like. They don't just put cream cheese on them either. You can choose different flavored cream cheese like jalapeno cream cheese too. Or choose one bagel concoction on the menu. Order a sandwich for instance. Have bacon, and eggs on your bagel. I always get the jalapeno bagel with regularly cream cheese. They usually toast the bagel. Afterwards, they put on the cream cheese. Let me just say that the bread is crisp enough and it combines with the cool cream cheese just right. It practically melts in your mouth. Not interested in what they specialize in? Well, you can go for their muffins. Sometimes they got cake and croissants too. Or just grab some chips and cookies. Not hungry? Then just get coffee, tea, milk, soda, juice, and the the like. They don't just stick to bagels. The people that own this place are quick in their service. They make sure that the line doesn't stay long for longer than a minute or two. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. The couple that run House of Bagels have been nothing but kind and courteous to me both times I've been there. And they've always gotten my order correct. There are some very scary aggressive homeless people in Todos Santos who come in and panhandle and ask for free coffee. This morning a homeless guy came in without a mask and when they requested he put one on he swore at them. They dealt with it very professionally. You can buy either $1 for 1, or $4 for a breakfast sandwich. The owners are smiling, personable, and want you to enjoy your meal. The space is as big as it needs to be, and is kept clean. How good is it? The car shop is several blocks away. When I got there on foot, my Western Omelette Bagel was still hot. The garlic bagel is done well, in the sweet spot between hard and squishy, with a nice garlic taste to it. Nice scrambled eggs. It would taste even better with hot sauce on it. So as mentioned earlier, I had my sites set and then I crossed the street and went inside. Service/Hospitality: Upon entering the establishment, I was greeted by one of the workers. I returned the greeting and then of course went about my way taking a few snaps. I didn't have many questions as I pretty much knew what I wanted. The staff looked happy and greeted every customer with kindness. Nice to see and very welcoming. Great customer service here. Food/Cleanliness: The establishment was pretty tidy considering the fact that they did have a consistant flow of people here during my visit. Honestly their wasn't much cleaning that needed to be done as it seemed visitors were being "proper" and not being messy. I skimmed the menu and found exactly what I wanted.. Lox Bagel - $6.75, A pretty standard Lox Bagel. Cream Cheese, Tomato, and Lox (Salmon). Kinda small as compared to "Sunrise Bagels" which isn't too far away from here. Nothing too special here, basic and not over the top. I asked if they had capers and they didn't. When comparing this to the same offering at "Sunrise Bagels" it wasn't on par, this bagel kinda lacked and the flavor wasn't something memorable. But for what is worth it was proportional to the size. Water - $1.00, just your standard bottle of Kirkland Signiture Water (Costco Wholesale) Overall: I would say that I'll visit again, l didn't have a unpleasant time here. This place is in a pretty popular area sitting in "Todos Santos" and it's only a hop skip and jump from "Concord Bart" and the freeway if this place happens to one of your morning stops for something quick. read more

There are moments in my day where I just feel like Im starving. One of these moment struck me around 10am and I needed food badly. My son was also with me and I convinced him to come in because they have muffins. I had to to with an Onion Bagel with Lox and red onion and cream cheese spread. Oh I loved my Lox. I can never have enough onion with my onion bagel. I devoured my meal like I just got off a deserted island. The muffin my son got was blueberry and it was super moist and big and he ate every single bite of it. A really good little snack for a kids. Sometimes parking can be an issue in Todos Santos Square but we pulled up right at the exact moment a car left a front spot. The timing was excellent and so was the food. read more

My son's birthday was last week and he asked that I take him and a couple of his friends to Q-Zar in Concord. Last year when he turned 13, we did a climbing party at Berkeley Iron Works. This time around it was all about fantasy and fun competition that laser tag offers. While the boys were inside the arena, I took a short walk down to Todos Santos for a nosh. I seem to recall that there used to be a House of Bagels at the Park and Shop Center. In any event, I walked inside and immediately saw Hamantaschen (a good sign). At the same time the counter service wasn't very haimish. And although I was pleased that the bagels are boiled rather than steamed, my bagel could have been fresher. Aside from this House of Bagels and Posh Bagel on Contra Costa Boulevard, there doesn't seem to be much bagel selection out here in greater Pleasant Hill. A nice go-to for lunch on a hurry and for under $10. Sadly, I've noticed the prices crawl up over the past year or two which sort of takes points away from the budget factor. I wouldn't mind so much if this place made more of their toppings in house instead of relying on Sabra hummus and Skippy peanut butter. But, you come here for the bagels which are always fresh and numerous. I like that they're constantly cycling the kinds available so you can expand your palate a bit. Currently my favorite is the hummus sandwich (the one vegan offering) on pumpernickel. Although I wish the hummus itself was freshly made, they don't skimp out on it at all (see: hummus facial). It's filling and relatively light so you can't ask for much more in the end. This spot also has other standard café offerings such as hot drinks, chips, and pastries. In hindsight buying the 8 pack of Thomas bagels and some sunny side whipped cream cheese spread would have tasted better. 2 stars cuz the person who took and made my order was very sweet and the shop seemed clean. Staff wearing masks even though the mandate has ended which personally I appreciate. Parking was easier than I anticipated, got a spot right outside and several other spots were available. Prices are about what you'd expect these days, maybe even a little lower. I had a craving for a Nova Lox bagel and House of Bagels didn't disappoint on theirs. I loved how many toppings it came with (sprouts, tomato, cucumber and thinly sliced red onion) in addition to the selection of cream cheese, bagel and lox. I typically don't eat raw red onion at all, but forgot to ask for no onion. They were sliced so thin that they complimented the lox bagel very nicely. I also got lox spread, garlic herb spread and some additional bagels. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the other bagels are pretty small and not very substantial.
