I was in the area for a morning shift and I needed a little pick me up to get me going. I arrived early, so I was able to quickly get my order in and make it in time to start my shift. It was not too crowded, with only a couple of people ahead of me. My order was taken and then I stood over to pay my bagel once it was ready. Onion Bagel with Sun Dried Tomato Cream Cheese: This is my absolutely favorite combination. I have had the one in Alamo, and it tasted exactly the same. The bagel had a nice onion flavor I expect for a bagel and it was toasted just right. The highlight was the cream cheese, with the sun dried tomatoes coming through. They gave me plenty of spread, so I was not missing out on any empty space on my bagel. Overall, a delicious start to my day. My favorite bagel shop in the bay. I love this place. I have two favorites. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch and the everything bagel. We got both this time. They don't toast the Cinnamon Crunch as it's too sticky, but they did warm it up in the microwave and put butter on it for me. We also got the anything bagel smothered with cream cheese, the plain kind. Both were satisfying. They also have pastries; apple turnovers, cinnamon rolls ect. Those Cinnamon rolls are giant. I'll have to try one sometime. They also make bagel sandwiches for lunch and breakfast. They make the eggs in the microwave so they come out round and the perfect size for your bagel. Cream cheese comes in a variety of flavors. My old favorite was the strawberry bagel with the strawberry cream cheese. There are so many options. Today again. Order a bacon ham and cheese bagel. Immediately after ordering the lady turns around, and pours egg into two cups and I have to stop her and say no egg. She looks at me dumbfounded like I just told her the world is ending. I then watch her get some ham and bacon and I relax and go over to pay. This was my mistake. I am generally not the biggest bagel fan because I tend to find them tough and chewy, and the cream cheese thick and sticky. I ordered the multigrain bagel with walnut and raisin cream cheese, and a coffee. Oh my, I loved it! The bagel was slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the spread was delicious. Most of the employees are amazing but there is one older Hispanic lady that without fail always gets our order wrong. She either needs to write down the orders or not take orders and support other employees in fulfilling the orders. I've been going here for years, maybe 18 or 19. It is convenient and bagels are tasty so one star for the bagels. They sell out quickly of the everything bagels and don't make enough so if you return after 9 or sometimes earlier many are already sold out. The servers don't write down the order and as a result have to ask multiple times what I want. They could easily fix this by having the customer circle what you want on your bagel. Bagel shop down the street has a plant based cream cheese which this shop doesn't and often are out of hummus. I've been going to the new bagel shop as the order process is much smoother, and they have plant based cream cheese with heirloom tomato that tastes like a tomato vs a tomato from a hot house. I didn't realize there was a Walnut Creek location until recently. I picked up my friend from his appointment and we came here for a quick lunch. It's funny because he's the same friend from high school that I used to skip class with to go to Bagel Street in SR haha. I got one of their asiago cheese bagels since they were out of jalapeño. Today I mobile ordered a coffee and the male working behind the counter is RUDE RUDE RUDE. wouldn't just hand me my coffee and made me wait 15 minutes. The Bagel Street Cafe is just your average Joe when it comes to their bagels. It ain't bad, but nothing really stands out above the rest. It's a convenient option if you want a simple breakfast in Walnut Creek. Notice that I didn't say "quick"... but simple. The one downfall about this place, is that they never seem to have enough staffing during their peak hours. I used to come here quite often when I worked down the street. But, the wait times in the morning can be excruciatingly slow. I would definitely say to give yourself extra time, especially if you're coming here on a weekday morning to try to snag breakfast on the way to work. Just cross your fingers and hope that they have more than two people working the line that day. As far as the quality goes, their bagels have always seemed to be fresh. They have a ton of different bagel options, and a fridge full of different flavored cream cheeses that are packaged to go. Their bagel sandwiches are pretty tasty and seem to be the most popular with the crowd. I'm a fan of their eggwich on any type of cheesy bagel. That's just my go-to and it usually doesn't disappoint. But what can be disappointing are their prices. Bagel Street is one of, if not the most, expensive bagel spot in this area. I don't know if it's because it's in Walnut Creek, but I can find the same type of bagel sandwiches in Concord for at least a dollar cheaper at a few other bagel spots. I mean, I know how the 'Creek gets down when it comes to prices. But at the end of the day, it's just a bagel... you know. Bread. Read some reviews complaining about rude service, and while I won't say that I've received spectacular service, I can say that it's been adequate and straight to the point. So RUDE Let's set the stage: there was only ONE other couple in this location already sitting and eating when my husband and I came in to order. First, the lady there told us to go to the other counter to order then walked away leaving us there. the guy who actually took our order asked us to come back to the area we were in the first place. The Bagel Street Café in Walnut Creek is one of those places we've gone zipping by for years without stopping. Located in the Whole Foods/Encina Grande shopping center off Ygnacio Valley and Oak Grove Rd. it's right on the eastern border of Walnut Creek. But this day, coming from Walnut Creek downtown and looking for a quick, light lunch we decided Bagel Street Cafe was worth checking out. I had expected we would find a little hole in the wall lunch place with a couple tiny tables geared for quick takeouts only. So I was pleasantly surprised to find Bagel Street had a large number of tables for eating in, combined with a pleasant atmosphere. They offer bagel and bagel roll sandwiches, bagels with different toppings, pizza bagels, bagel dogs, bagel melts and a variety of drinks: coffees, teas and smoothies. Bagel sandwiches include turkey, ham, pastrami, roast beef, corn beef, salami, BLT, tuna salad, etc and range from $6.25 to $7.95. Extra toppings are slightly more. My wife and I both ordered the Eggwich sandwiches on a bagel, she just the egg on Asiago, while I had egg, bacon and cheddar on a combo bagel (at 1:30pm they no longer had poppy seed or sesame seed bagels). These breakfast bagels are a little lighter and are served all day. Our sandwiches were quite good. Not surprisingly, the highlight was the bagel - same-day-fresh and delicious. The combination of the egg, bacon and cheese was quite tasty and a perfect lunch. My wife also ordered a Taro Tea blended ice drink. She's a little more adventurous than me (I had no idea what a "taro" even was!) but I sampled hers and it had a uniquely sweet taste. Different and a great choice. We ate inside on this damp, chilly January day. The eating area had nicely spaced tables of various size and was a comfortable option for a casual lunch. It's no small thing to find a reliable lunch option with quality food at a very reasonable price - especially one with spacious indoor seating. We'll be back to Bagel Street Cafe, and will look to check out other Bay Area locations. read more
