My practical working knowledge of Macs is so lacking that you could tell me a magic elf makes the thing run and I'd have no choice but to believe you. So, imagine my joy when I learned that a certified Apple technician is making house calls to Mac owners on the Peninsula. I called House Call 4 Macs when I had problems syncing data with Mobile Me. OK - not quite rocket science ... but Aly assessed the problem, ran some diagnostic tests on my mac and knew exactly what to do to maximize my entire computer system. Or put another way: in addition to solving the syncing problem, he completed an annual physical exam on my aging mac and gave it a clean bill of health. As a result, I'm sold on House Calls 4 Macs. I spilled wine into my MacBook Air (*grimace* don't judge me) and after hearing that Apple was going to charge me a minimum of $800 to open it up and look at it, I decided to look around for another solution. When it comes to Mac Repair and service, this is as good as it gets. I have used countless Mac techs over the past 25 years or so and NEVER have I had a better experience. Facing the 'blue screen of death" earlier this week, and having done everything I knew how to do, I left a voice mail for House Calls 4 Mac at about 2:30 in the afternoon. By 3:00 I got a call back. Almost fell off my chair. The first thing Aly did that distinguished him from almost everyone else I've ever called on is PUT ME AT EASE. He said, "Don't worry. Aly from housecall4macs was a great find!!! I've been having problems with my Mac pro switching off in mid use and not starting the next day when switched off the day before. Brought it to the genius bar twice, first they could not find anything wrong with it and a month later diagnosed it with a damaged processor. They said it could be that or it might be the mother board, in either case I'd be better off getting a new computer. A co-worker found Aly on Yelp and recommended that I check him out because of all the great reviews. And in this case, all the reviews turned out accurate. At first I was hesitant because my Mac is 4 years old, is it even worth fixing at this point? I'm glad I called Aly anyway, he wanted to do a thorough test on the machine to see if it might have been something other than the processor. Turned out he was right, it was the ram riser which was a cheaper fix. I had to time the repair in between projects as I was finishing an animation on a limping mac, fingers crossed all the way. I was concerned about the time in between diagnosing and ordering parts for repair, as a freelancer I could not be without my computer for too long. Aly offered to bring back the machine while he ordered the parts and pick it back up when he gets it. Luckyly the parts shipped fast and we ended up not having to do that. He dropped my machine off on a weekend on his way to a party and took the time to show me everything that was done, making sure everything was working fine before he left. A few days later, I had a few questions and decided to shoot Aly an email. He called me within 10 minutes and addressed all my concerns. He is very patient, knowlegable, easy to work with and puts you at ease. All the traits you'd want in someone fixing an important work machine. I made the sin of sins when it comes to proper computer maintenance: I didn't properly backup my iMac. I procrastinated and Murphy's Law happened. My iMac's hd died and the rest is history. So I did my research and found housecall4macs. I emailed them about my dilema and Aly responded promptly. He explained that he'll do what he's capable of to recover the lost data and even made me aware of the chances of him being unable to. He made sure I understood and so we exchanged info and he quoted me a VERY fair price. He came to my house to pick up the machine and kept me updated on his efforts to recover my data over the next couple days. Who wouldn't leave a 5 star review when someone you ask to help you comes out and repairs things so fast, so knowledgeably that you probably would spend more time signing on to Yelp and filling out the review then having your Mac troubleshot. I had what I thought to be a serious problem in my operating system or a virus (yes, macs can get them) but it turned out, after a 15 minute diagnostic, that it was blue tooth interference from my own equipment. Overdue review for service last November... We have a ton of wireless devices in our house and some laptops and iPhones were having big wifi disruptions. Aly came highly recommended as these reviews show. However, after an initial response to my inquiry for assistance in replacing my iMac, printer, router, etc., Aly responded with a couple of questions. I responded promptly and NEVER HEARD BACK. While many these days may not care about people that treat potential customers this way, I am one that feels this kind of treatment is not only unprofessional, it is RUDE and an indicator of poor work ethics. He showed up exactly on time, and was patient with me as I had to keep him waiting for a few minutes as I tried to get off of a phone call. As the rating says "As good as it gets" Our I mac had been getting slower and slower and finally the blue circle of death made a permanent appearance on the screen and noting else would work. I called housecalls4macs, set up an appointment and after inspecting the computer at our home we found it was necessary to replace the hard drive. Aly took the computer away and had it returned one working day later, running faster and better than it had been been before with a new hard drive installed. My iMac (27 inch, late 2012) was shutting off by itself. Sometimes it would work fine for hours, but then all of a sudden it would just shut down, as if the power cord had been pulled out of the back. This was extremely frustrating.
