The customer service alone, deserves five stars. As soon as we pulled up to valet, the men working that night were so nice. Then we walked into the restaurant, immediately got sat to our table and greeted by our server, Matt. Everyone working that night was so attentive, friendly and really made it seem like they wanted to work there. I ordered a regular margarita*, on the rocks and it was so good. Typically, I like a flavor to my drinks, preferably something fruity- lilikoi, strawberry or mango, but their regular margarita didn't need that extra flavor to it. It was a little strong, but can't complain about that. We started off with appetizers- lobster tempura, harvest salad, smoked ahi dip, and ahi tuna sashimi tataki. The house dressing on the harvest salad was very light and did not over power the salad. The smoked ahi dip came with banana chips and it was surprisingly a good combination. My favorite was the lobster tempura. It wasn't too heavy, had a light tempura batter to it and it was so soft and flavorful. For dinner, my husband had the macadamia crusted mahi mahi with baby bok choy, sweet potato and miso butter with a side of lobster tail and I had the Kauai shrimp risotto with roasted tomato and ong choi. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. It wasn't chewy and it wasn't over seasoned or drenched in sauce. The risotto provided more than enough flavor! I love risotto and will order it almost every time at a restaurant because we don't like to make it. The roasted tomatoes were juicy and the ong choi was still crunchy. Whatever sauce the chef made for the risotto, was honestly, so good. It wasn't too buttery and heavy. Since this is a farm-to-table restaurant, we had to order dessert to try. We ended up ordering white chocolate mousse, the chocolate molted cake and banana lumpia. First off- that WHITE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE was so airy and creamy. The banana lumpia had a nice crunch to it and wasn't filled with heavy ingredients. It reminded us a churro. The chocolate molten cake was also good. I mean, it's hard not to like a chocolate filled cake with vanilla bean ice cream. While everything tasted amazing, the service really was the best part. Matt was attentive, suggested things off the menu and described them perfectly to us. He went above and beyond to ensure our dinner was great. The timing of the meals was also, spot on. Nothing came too early or too late. *On their menu they do have a spicy margarita, that my brother ordered. It was spicy for me, but he liked the combination of the spicy with the alcohol. We went here twice during our vacation even though we weren't that close to it. The ambiance, the furnishings, the tableware, everything was modern and elegant. The staff were very friendly, respectful, and kind. The food was very well prepared. Both nights I tried the fish dishes. We had the Coconut Shrimp, XOXO Dumplings, Firecracker Kona Kampachi, and the Day Boat Snapper. All dishes were nicely prepared and the flavors were cohesive. Highly recommend this spot. read more

This review is for their Tuesday night "Farm to Table" dinner. At a time when getting dinner reservations for a large party was very difficult, there was no problem here. I wonder why? First, the location is fabulous, in a resort area overlooking the water. So our last night in Kauai should have climaxed with a wonderful dinner. IT DID NOT. Their Farm to Table menu is fixed with just a couple of Choices. Appetizer was what I would describe as fried chicken nuggets with salad greens. Main entrees were Bucatini pasta or Tuna. I had the pasta which was a small portion and tasteless. All who had it agreed. Ahi tuna was second possibility. One person had that and said OK. Desert was a piece of cake. Children had a choice of a slice of pizza or pasta shells with butter. No desert for kids, but I asked for the only thing possible which was gelato. Service was very slow and not very personable, food, MEH, and price, Don't ask. Based on my experience and the lack of diners at 6:00 PM, they should rethink their "Farm to Table" night. I hate to put it this way but overall Horrible, a big disappointment. We could have eaten at the "Food Truck Park" down the road and had a better meal. Sorry, we loved Kauai but were very disappointing with this restaurant. No recommendations from me. read more

This was by far our favorite restaurant on Kauai. There are several outdoor tables on the sunny patio. 1) Service (+): Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We walked in for lunch on a weekday and had no issue getting a table. 2) Ambience (+): I love the island decor and expansive ocean views that you can see from all sides of the restaurant! 3) Food (+): We shared a selection of amazing dishes from the Lunch Menu including coconut shrimp, the Farm at Hokuala kale caesar salad, and local catch fish tacos. All were delicious and the best food we had all week on Kauai. 4) Alcohol/Drinks (+): There is a large selection of beers, wines and cocktails here. I have mixed feelings about this place. The resort it's in is stunning a beautiful. The view is amazing. However, if you're from Hawaii, you're kind of jaded to great views. What's more important to me is: 1. Value. This does not mean price. You have have cheap food that is a bad value and expensive food that is a great value. 2. Service. Genuine service with aloha is the best. 3. Overall quality of the food As far as this place goes, the value just isn't quite there. Their cheapest option is the Ravioli at $39. Everything else is basically $50 and up and doesn't necessarily include any sides. Started with the Moloa'a Honeycomb Salad which was very unusual. Its basically an arugula salad with a small bit of real honeycomb and a sweet honey based dressing with some goat cheese. It was actually pretty good. Very unique. We got the Coconut Shrimp next which was pretty standard. They said they make it in-house. 5 good sized shrimp, still juicy in the middle. It was good. I wish we got the Lobster Tempura. That looked even better. The Pan Seared Summer Ahi at $56 was actually a pretty decent portion, as well it should be for that price. It was perfectly seared, but overall the dish did not come out hot. I don't expect the fish to be very hot but the accompaniments should have be hotter. The Mac Nut Buttered Sweet Potato was good and was a good sized portion. Perfect for sharing. For desert, the Banana Tempura was good. Ice cream was small and half melted when it got to us. The server exuded pretentious mainland attitude. Not necessarily in a bad way, but she went on and on and on about the food. I just wanted her to shut up and let us look at the menu in peace. Didn't need her to go in depth on every single dish particularly those items that weren't specials. And I can't stand it when they just don't put their specials on a piece of paper. Make it easy on us folks. Most of the wait staff looked very young. Again, not necessarily bad, and I know this isn't a super old restaurant, but I think the wait staff at a place that claims to be farm to table should bring more of that local aloha spirit to the table. The drinks are ok. Like about $18 for a Mai Tai. That's not terrible these days. $15 would be a bit more pallable. Parking is valet only, but is free. I might consider going back if in the area anyway. I just think for the price, it just needs to deliver a bit more. read more

Always excellent service and incredible food The views are also spectacular and possibly the best on the island. Great place for romantic dinners, celebrations, or even casual lunches. Whole fried fish is a must try as well as kalbi lamb. Everything we've tried so far has been very delicious. Dinner prices are comparable to other high end restaurants on the island. My husband and I had dinner here for our 10 year anniversary. We booked our reservations the night of. Based on the photos on yelp and reviews we expected a nice dinner. We were absolutely blown away by the entire experience and I felt compelled to leave a review and some photos. The staff were all extremely helpful, courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. All wore a pleasant smile and multiple staff checked in with us at various time of the evening. The drinks were perfectly mixed and the presentation was stunning. I think this restaurant should be recognized for their superb appetizers. We had the tempura lobster and grilled octopus both of which were recommended to us by our valet driver. We both agreed we could have ordered 2nd of either of these dishes. For the main course we had the ribeye with melted herb butter, veggies and mashed potatoes and the lobster and shrimp risotto both of which were also delectable. For dessert we enjoyed a white chocolate warm cake with ice cream. When ready to leave we agreed this was likely our new favorite restaurant. If you can sit out on the patio it is the best atmosphere to enjoy your meal. Fabulous dinner, drinks and service at Hualan's last night. Started at the bar with cocktails. The Paloma was great--perfect balance of tart and refreshing. Bartenders were very attentive and engaging. For our meal, we had the whole fried fish as an appetizer for 4. It was visually stunning and the vinegar dip was a nice addition. Three of us had the Dynamite entree and are still talking about the kimchi butter sauce. Tina was our server and was great. She was one of the best servers I have experienced in quite some time. Tina was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine offerings. She too was very engaging. You could tell this gig was not a side hustle. She was very professional. Live music was great as well. Visited this restaurant on Valentine's Day (which was also my birthday) recently and couldn't have been happier. The view was beautiful from the bar and restaurant area and the wait staff were super friendly. The menu for this evening was somewhat preset with a 3-course meal. My only complaint and reason for not giving a 5 star review was the prime rib. It was covered in a mushroom gravy and took away the savory possibilities of truly enjoying the aged prime rib. But, the Old Fashion that I had (okay two) were absolutely fantastic. I would definitely return, but would not order the prime rib. read more

This is one of the most impressive restaurants I've dined at in Kauai. It's on top of a hill at a timeshare property. The view is beautiful from there. One of the most amazing aspects is the staff. Tara was the hostess who took us to our table, and Melanie was our server. The concept is farm-to-table, so they make what's seasonally available from their suppliers. During our visit, they had some great pre fixe specials, so we opted for them. We started with the Hokuala Farm Baby Romaine Hearts as the first appetizer. It was made with the romaine, purple radish, and taro bread croutons in anchovy dressing. Deliciously savory. The second was the Ono Ceviche. The fish was nice and the dressing was fresh. We were feeling rather peckish, so we also got the taro chips. For our entrees, we had Asian Marinade Flank Steak and Pan Seared Ahi. The steak had wonderful flavor and cooked to perfection. Roasted baby carrots, kim chi, and beet mashed potatoes were the accompaniment. Everything went so well together. The tuna was seared on the outside and drizzled with miso-ginger sauce. It came with pickled cabbage salad, and mizuna greens. Both dishes were well-composed and absolutely delicious. We finished with the Double Chocolate Tart. So rich and decadent! Everyone else in my party really enjoyed their fish meals, but the ribeye was one of the worst nice restaurant steaks I have ever had and it's the most expensive thing on the menu. It was completely covered in a sauce that was somewhat tasty but it was way too much sauce. You should never be smothering a high quality steak in sauce. We got the bread pudding for desert and it was pretty bad. It was cold! I've never had cold bread pudding before. We took it home and heated it up but it still wasn't very good. Overall, we had very good service and a nice meal. Just some of the quality of the food was disappointing and recommend you don't get the steak. read more

Though they were not 100% to my taste they were still very well made and nice to try. They were both sweeter than I like. I had the Fillet Mignon and it was delicious. I had asked for a medium well and was soft. The peppercorn sauce tied the dish together and gave a lightness/freshness to the dish. The dish was very enjoyable to work through. The chocolate cake was the perfect size especially with the ice cream which was the perfect pair especially with how rich the cake was. At first I was like this restaurant is really close to the airport...seems kind of weird. The drive here was a trek and crazy as well having to go across two bridges but the second I saw the view...holy moly. Probably one of the nicest restaurant views I have ever seen in my life. We were lucky to see sunset and it is just magical with the lighthouse in the background. Our waiter was fantastic the entire night. I believe his name was Michael. For drinks we got the painkiller and the drink of the week which was a blueberry whiskey sour. The painkiller was the winner out of the two. We got the goat cheese arugula honeycomb salad, which was one of the best salads I have ever had. We also got the Focaccia which was good but could've been served a bit warmer. The onion soup was also delicious. We shared the 5 day aged Sea Bass which came with coconut rice and bok choy. It kind of reminded me of the famous nobu miso cod recipe.
