Had tried this place several times when I first moved here. Service was not very good and food just okay. My initial final visit resulted in a service of room temperature pancakes. Wasn't even warm enough to begin to melt any butter. THe worst part is that the owner actually got mad at me. Go figure. It was my fault?? Today, a few years later, I again give them a try. Going to order pancakes and ask if the sausage is links or patties. Waitress says patties but if I want links I can order them separately for an additional charge. I'm kind of surprised by the ratings this place has. Having moved to Rowlett it's pretty conveniently located right off 66. Now I've been here at one of the worst times (Sunday brunch- all restaurants are packed with a mix of church families and hung over people) for a restaurant, and at a dead time (2pm on a tuesday).Both times we were sat immediately. Ample seating and a ton of pretty servers constantly rotating with pots of coffee for refills. I would describe it as a southern diner that serves breakfast all day and happens to cook some dinner items. It is not a fine dining establishment. It has typical breakfast foods, and in a true Texas fashion a whole section of Mexican breakfast dishes with a case of pies as well as house made tamales. This restaurant is a gem. It's decorated in tons of tin signs, sports memorabilia, and takes a nod to roadside diners of the past and has a country feel to it. Most of the servers are obviously young, so be patient and just clearly explain what you want. I have not had any issue here. You pay at the counter when you're done. Go for breakfast, drink coffee, and if you have reasonable expectations and a positive attitude everything's gonna be just great! read more

Breakfast is the star of this show, and it is served all day! Good old fashioned home-cooking, just like your granny made - except this is served by friendly and attractive girls. What's not to love? Pros: bfast staples, rolls, tea, chicken-fried steak or chicken, salty black-eyed peas and other veggies, PIE, homemade pie, and pie. Did I mention pie? Different flavors depending upon the day, but I love the buttermilk snd chocolate pies. In fact; their chocolate pie is different from any served elsewhere (think choco-meringue crossed with choco-mousse, on top of regular choco-pie)! I have been coming to this place for years. I have written two negative reviews on this place but really never gave up . I keep hoping that they would get management in that would run the place effectively but I can see now it isn't going to happen. They had two excellent ladies who use to be in charge and both left I guess cause they don't want to pay them. I came again today and my experience was as follows: Table unbussed I usually sit at the counter and there was one person there but I struggled to find a clean setting. I sat there for a flood 5 minutes with waitress walking past and not asking anything. The place had very few people in there but they still have not been trained to wait and greet on the customer. Finally someone came and took my order. The food came and it was good it usually always is. I think they have excellent food Although I did see a waitress one time go to the back and reach in with her hands and got lettuce out without gloves or washing her hands. When they brought my food they ask if I needed anything and I said more coffee and she said no problem and went back to the counter and never brought the coffee someone finally came by but that was it no more refills even though I had people walking by but never offered. I make it a habit to always tip well because my daughters are waitress and I understand how hard they work but today was the first time in memory I didn't leave a tip. In the end as I stated I keep coming back for the food but it isn't that good to get me to go back it is a place ran by children who have no concept of what it takes for a place to be successful. I hope one day the owners wise up and get people in there who will train and insist that the people are trained and held to an expectations. I do see promise in one waitress a short little blond girl she works continuously and I never see her standing around and talking like most of the others do . Sorry Hubbard if I could give 0 stars I would so much wasted potential . We wanted a home cooked meal (comfort food) and this place delivered great food and service. We were a large group and we had breakfast, chicken fried steak, and fried catfish which everyone enjoyed and the food was fresh! The waitress was extremely nice and was always checking on us. I think that may be what they are counting on for return customers, because the food isn't great; with strange, dry, mile-high biscuits which beg for moisture and perhaps another egg or two in the batter so they didn't fall apart upon picking them up, runny eggs which yearn for another couple of minutes of cooking time, and grits which could use some salt, butter and maybe a nip of milk or love. We really enjoyed the fried catfish dinner with the coleslaw and pinto beans and pickled green tomatoes. The kids cheeseburger was good too and my eight-year-old really liked the fries that came with our catfish. I really like their hush puppies! Service was great. Placed a to-go order 7/21 @ 7:56 am. Place was not busy at all for my food not to be ready @ 8:15am. I was offered something to drink while I waited. Paid and left @ 8:30am. Once at work I noticed I was over charged. My co-worker and I noticed the bad taste of the bacon. She calls and was told that NOTHING is FREE so I was charged for the coffee I was offered. We went and took the bacon to them so that they can see for themselves. We were not offered a replacement or anything Other than a "credit" on the coffee. Today 7/26 we went in and had lunch thinking we would get better service. The menu I got states $11.00 for lunch special. The ticket said $12. I asked about this and was told that prices changed and asked if I want to see the new menu? We called Katlynn "the manager" over to the table and stated it was a simple mistake, I told her well its been several mistakes as the last time I was charged for a coffee I was offered and the bacon was bad and all Sara said is the owner does NOT give ANYTHING FREE. Last time we were also told that there was an upcharge on blueberries on pancakes todays ticket did not reflect that. My co-worker asked about that and Kaitlynn had the audacity to reach over grabbed the ticket and added the 1.50 to the ticket. I was surprised she corrected the $12 to $11. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS BAD AND MANAGEMENT IS FOR THE BUSINESS AND NOT THE CUSTOMER. We will NEVER go back. I try to like this place but I can't. It's the closest breakfast place on the western end of Rowlett. I have made several visits over the past several years and always the same result. Cheap quality food and mediocre service. Generally a case of indigestion after I leave. If Denny's,Waffle House, A GOOD local owned diner or IHOP opened in west side Rowlett I hate to say they would be in trouble. That's not saying much. I do not see what the locals see in this place. No, no, no!!! We had a horrible experience at Hubbard's today. First of all we walked in at noon and we did not leave until 1:40. We had three different waitresses take our drink order and it took about 10 minutes to get our drinks. We order 2 salad bars, a pancake, a waffle and 2 cheeseburgers, since we had 6 people. We waited over an hour for our food. Finally the food arrived and my daughter's waffle was hard and dark brown, she couldn't eat it. My sister and I had the salad bar and when we went to get our food over half of the items on the salad bar were empty. We also overheard a man ask if he could pay for his tea, he had been waiting an hour for his good and said he couldn't wait any longer. When we got up to pay I noticed that one of our 3 waitresses was sitting at the counter eating her lunch and counting her tips. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Hubbard's. read more

It had been a while (over a year) since we tried Hubbard's and thought we would give it another chance since our first try was horrible. We believe in second chances, but they proved us wrong again... The food is mediocre at best. Undercooked pan fried potatoes (still VERY firm...almost raw) on the same plate as a tasteless, overcooked omelet. Biscuits are like rocks sitting in your stomach and tasteless as well (although nice looking). The white gravy was the only saving grace. Coffee was not hot and didn't seem fresh...for $2.25 a cup, you expect better. The girls (probably high schoolers) are dressed in skimpy, tiny shorts that leave nothing to the imagination with shirts WAY off the shoulder (and one was almost see through!). The owners are rude and stuck up....the prices are ridiculously high...the atmosphere is terrible! If you're a dirty old man that doesn't care about decent quality, this is the place to go...not a family dining experience at all!! We will not be giving Hubbard's a third try. Wife and I have been there several times and I have been a few times by myself as well. The food is hit and miss. I like my hash browns well done. Every time I order it there, I have to send it back. Under cooked. I even took a picture with my phone of how I like it when my wife cooks it. I showed them the pic. No problem I am told. STILL it comes out under cooked. And when they take it back to the kitchen to get it right, they take the whole plate, eggs and all. And when it comes back, guess what....eggs are cold. Brilliant. Prices are too high I agree. Hubbard's is much larger inside than I expected. They have booths, tables and counter seating. Hubbard's servers don't wear uniforms or even t-shirts with the restaurant name. They're just walking around in their street clothes. The stereo speakers are so low quality they probably shouldn't bother. If you select counter seating, I did, you can just barely hear the music above the clattering from the kitchen. On one end of the counter there are saloon doors for the servers to deliver food from. On the other end of the counter the doors are missing (were they ever there) so there's an unobstructed view of the kitchen trash can. Orange juice comes in 2 sizes. Large $2.99 and sippy cup size $1.50. I stopped in for breakfast so I ordered the one egg, two bacon option for $7.50. For 25¢ more you can get two eggs. This menu selection comes with hashbrowns OR grits OR pan fries AND toast OR biscuits and gravy OR oatmeal. The pan fries were randomly sized chunks and they weren't delivered to the table hot. I didn't tell my server because she did exactly zero check backs after she delivered my breakfast. My server never smiled and made no attempts at friendliness. Her hair is a thousand feet long and even though she works around food it wasn't pulled back at all. I don't have high recommendations but if you want to try them out the diner is right between Baker's Ribs and Napoli's Italian Restaurant. read more

This place is so awful, one star is being generous. I had the hamburger steak with gravy and onions, mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was extremely over done. The gravy came from a jar and was too salty. The mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about and full of lumps. The green beans came from a can and had no seasoning whatsoever, not even a simple grain of salt. The only thing left to look forward to were the big, fluffy rolls and they were a massive let down. They were tough and had no flavor at all. They needed a healthy pinch of salt in the dough before they were baked. Hubbard's in Rowlett Texas We stopped in once for breakfast and once for lunch. Breakfast was great. Huge portions fast excellent service and tasty. Lunch was a busier time of day so the wait was longer, but I'm okay with that if the food is worth it. My burger was pretty good, but the onion rings were really chewy tough and tasteless. The chef's salad my husband ordered he described as having no heart. The quality and care in preparation left something to be desired. Oh and if you want more than 2 lemon slices for your tea be prepared for an extra charge! read more

My husband and I enjoy going to mom n pop type Restaurants for breakfast. Sadly there was nothing special about this. We went to second time hoping it would be better but there was nothing special. The first time I had a blueberry waffle and it was just made with blueberry mix as opposed to a waffle with real blueberries. The second time I got a regular Belgian waffle and it reminded me of one made from Bisquick was no vanilla added to it and just very heavy and dry where I had to take a drink of water each time. I would've drink the coffee except it had a funny taste to it so I didn't enjoy that either. My husband enjoy the omelette,And the biscuits and gravy were just OK. I will say that the hashbrowns were really good above all else. We just need to keep looking for a good mom-and-pop restaurant to the area. Not being from Texas makes it hard to do. read more
