The service was good. That was the only thing good about this place. The fish had absolutely no seasoning. Hand cut fries would have been good if they had been seasoned. The brown beans were the only thing that had flavor, but it was chili powder. So disappointing. read more

I started coming to Hucks over 11 years ago. I was a bit ignorant about the color of good salmon, and mentioned something to the waitress just asking a question. The owner came out and offered me a whole different meal, and I believe I declined, but in the end, he took my meal off the ticket. He didn't need to do that, but he valued my experience at his establishment enough to do whatever he could to ensure the experience was positive. I've never stopped going back, and if anyone asks my opinion, go and eat at Hucks! read more

Everything was cold and soggy and half cooked. Nothing was browned at all! I'd never go here again.

The service wasn't bad, we were seated as soon as we walked in. And some of the food was ok. I ordered the country fried steak meal with 2 sides, and Hubs ordered the fried catfish platter with 2 sides. I'll break it down: Since this is a 'catfish' restaurant, it's only appropriate to rate that first. Catfish: We've eaten tens of thousands of catfish fillets, steaks, and whole fish throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia and every species...channel, blue, flatheads. This is definitely NOT catfish. At least not the American Icatalarus or Pylodictis catfish. Wrong shape. Wrong texture. Anatomy doesn't fit that of a catfish. Perhaps when they say 'Delta Goodness' they were referring to the Mekong Delta. However, great fry job on this mystery white fish. I guess it is acceptable to fool the "over 65" demographic that appears to make up the bulk of the patrons of this establishment. The other items I describe may be delicious, however nothing will negate selling people a food item that is purposely mislabeled. Pictures of the menu clearly state "farm raised catfish". Chicken fried steak: not horrible. Seemed frozen- totally different breading than everything else we had that was fried. Not much taste, but edible. Okra: good. Crispy. Seemed fresh. Black eyed peas: these were very tasty. Ham and potato salad: tasty but salty. Hush puppies: another reviewer wrote that these were the best thing there and he could be correct. They were excellent dipped in the tomato relish. We left without eating much and (very unlike us) did not bother with a single to-go box. The literal "bait-n-switch" is the only reason you need to not spend your money at this restaurant. read more

While it's not five stars like a fancy steak restaurant, I give Huck's five stars because it is THE BEST catfish I've ever had. We drive there once in a while from the mid cities, and the 90 minute drive is totally worth it. This is my "birthday restaurant" and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants something that's in a class all to itself. The whole way up, I'll think about the food and the simple, kitschy decor that you'd find in a down-home roadside place, the hush puppies with the rich flavor and crispy crust, the light and flaky catfish, it is all EXCELLENT. Absolutely our families favorite!!! 21 family members piled into Huck's after my grandma's funeral unannounced. We wanted to have a wonderful send off for her at a decades long family restaurant we frequented from Pottsboro to Denison!!! The staff was so helpful and accommodating. We had several good reviews of Huck's, so after touring the historic village we stopped in for lunch. Even though it was after lunch time the restaurant was still busy. We had the fried catfish with fries and tator tots and also the salmon patties with cole slaw and fried okra. All was very good along with the peach, apple and pecan cobblers al mode for dessert. Service was very good with us being checked on by not only our waitress but several other employees. They all asking if we needed anything. We were very pleased with our visit. read more

This is everything you would think of it being in a small town with a lake style vibe. Fish was on point, service was excellent, and the dining room they had tables spaced a good distance. Expect a little wait time, heck even when at full capacity I suspect they have a wait time. Sides were a bit lackluster for me. Hush puppies fell flat, was expecting something that would have a bit of that catfish taste. A bit dense, I've had better. Okra run of the mill food service, potato salad was very good. I've learned with bbq and fish joints that either the sides are on point or the proteins are. Very rare you got that perfect combo. Honestly this is a 4.5 star joint. read more
