I was kinda scared as the place was nearly empty except for an older couple in one corner and what looked like some drunk regulars in the other. Prices are reasonable. The one cook behind the counter looked 12 but I watched him cook and he was very good. As my older brother and I drove to Mabank, to help our youngest brother to install rain gutters to his house. We met at the Huddle House, in Hun Barrel City, TX. This place like all other Huddle House restaurant is small, but clean and well organized. Our server was Ms. Michelle, who was very welcoming, good sense of humor, polite, very efficient and nice smile. She promptly served us water and coffee. She then took our orders and the three of us opted for the Philly Cheese steak Omelet, with crispy hash browns, I got the side of toast whileny brothers got theirs with biscuits and side of white gravy. Even though, (apologies), I didn't take pictures the omelettes were very delicious. Whoever prepared my toast, must of just graduated from butter school, because my toast was oozing with butter. So, I've never been to a Huddle House prior to this! From what I understand, it's similar to an IHOP or Denny's except it truly has a "huddled up" diner feel. Tiny building, bar that has a clear view of the food being made right behind it. It was packed when we arrived, only one table available. Took 15 minutes for our breakfast to come out! We were both really happy with our meals and can see why it was packed in here! It's super cozy and everyone was really friendly! The locals that all seemed to know each other and the staff really made this atmosphere comfortable! For what this chain restaurant is, the service was great and the food was good! I read the reviews while sitting here and have to say there's some truth to them (being out of items was one of them). Today they were out of cheese sauce and clean silverware. We (just the two of us) came in the door and not were not greeted. Now, they were a little busy and there were a few tables that needed to be cleared off, but the "owner" was too busy talking to his buddies who did nothing but take up space at the counter. He also had his gun on his hip under his big belly. Perplexed as to what individual would steal from him I surmised it was his health and lack of concern that was stolen from him at some point in the distant past and never to be recovered. Out waitress was really nice but on the weird side of life (which I embrace) but she made sure to let us know she didn't take any sh1t by letting us know she threw tea on a customer for them throwing their plate of food on her due to the absence of, get this, cheese sauce. She later brought out silverware she washed herself. As noted in another comment on this place, it's definitely the local grease trap. It was very below a normal restaurant but it's Gunbarrel City so go figure. One note: a table decided to hold hands and pray before they ate. Hopefully, their food was protected from causing harm to them or to others. As we were leaving, the owner placed his hand on a waitress's butt. Ugh...he was literally a dirty, old pervert. The food was really good but the reason for the low stars is that they forget about you you will be waiting almost 1 hour for your food and during your service it takes a while for help once you need your ticket it will total another hour to get.reason is they only have 2 people waiting tables !! The waiting staff is super nice but they cannot handle helping every table in a timely manner the food was sooo good the softest biscuits and gravy ever!! I was visiting my inlaws when I decided to try this place. I ordered online for pick up thinking I would save myself some time. I ordered 4 things. Two of which were starters, one side and a melt. What should have taken about 20 minutes, turned into over an hour!! The staff was rude, and acted as though we were the inconvenience. When I initially checked on the order (at my scheduled pick up time) they told me it would be 20 minutes and had not been started. Okay, I sat in the car and waited. 20 minutes later, I go back in and my order still was not started and they ran out of one of the starters I ordered! When I asked for a refund they said the manager was on vacation still and she "should" be back Wednesday. Only she can issue a refund! What the heck?! So now I am 40 minutes in, no food, can't get a refund for the item they do not have and I even tipped online prior to! Had I known I would've never tipped. It was my very first and my very last experience with this place! I will be seeking my refund!! The food wasn't good either! Save yourself the time and money! We love this place. We go a least once a week. The food is good and reasonably priced, the servers are friendly especially Chelsea and Brandy, and it's always clean. If there is a problem they are happy to correct it. We also get coupons in pretty regular. read more

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. There were 3 of us in our party. We put in our order. The waitress came back and said they were out of gravy for our chicken fried steaks. It took them 20 minutes to make the gravy. she brought me my salad and the lettuce was brown and black. I told her about it and she "Oh really". Our drinks were not refilled. The whole restaurant turned to look at us when we entered the Huddle House in Gun Barrel City. It was unexpected when we were ghosted by every server in the joint. We are regular at the Huddle House, we have never had bad experience here. The employee are so nice and friendly, always working hard to make sure our order is correct and hot. Shout out to Brandi, Shelby and David Lee. All the employees are fantastic. I found even when they super busy they keep you updated as to wait times. I can't say enough about this place. Food is always hot and very good. Love the rewards program too. Wish I could give more than 5 stars. They have turkey sausage which makes me soo happy because I cannot eat pork due to food allergies. We went huddle house instead of Denny's for breakfast. This is a very tiny space hence the name.. I think. The staff was very nice we were seated right away and they brought us coffee and OJ. We ordered a couple of their stuffed hash browns. this has hash browns top and bottom, scrambled eggs and a chicken fried steak with processed cheese squares on top... guys these don't melt very well. this would be so much better with some Jack or pepper jack cheese. One of our friends had the Premium Breakfast Platter served with 2 Eggs cooked over easy, hash browns and Toast the other was just a chicken breast with fries. I had the stuffed hash browns, they tasted good but felt like something you would get at the fair. don't get me wrong I like fair food, it was like a flash back, I looked around for the tilt-o-whirl. When the waitress took our order my wife asked for fried eggs on her stuffed hash browns instead of scrambled eggs, which I guess scrambled the waitress as she forgot to put mine on the ticket. They made a quick recovery though and got them out to me pretty quick I do applaud our waitress for owning the error instead of putting it on the cook. It was not a bad experience over all they didn't put any butter on the toast i had to ask for some, definitely very filling and good size portions.
