Burnt Ends, Sliced Brisket, Hot Link, Mac and cheese, baked beans
    Neil F. N.

First time in Eureka. This spot caught my eye. Ends and brisket were great. Link was OK. Beans weren't my favorite so I asked if I could switch it for something else and they gave me fresh cornbread, which was a whole lot better. The Kansas City BBQ sauce though... A1. *chefs kiss* One of the best tasting BBQ sauces I've had.

One meat plate w/ brisket, beans, and spicy slaw 6 bbq sauces to choose from including 3 spicy and a Carolina mustard (also 1 of the spicy ones) I found the brisket to be tender with a thin layer of fat on the top edge. flavorful on its own and the sauces complement even more. The three sauces I tried were very distinct from each other. The Georgia was the spiciest followed by the mustard. The spicy Kansas was less spicy but had an amazing smokiness to it. A very casual "no frills" dining experience which is great for lunch or takeout. You order at the counter here. The food came ready fast, within 5 minutes for me. Would definitely return.

Hubby was wanting BBQ so he looked up this place... it was a lil hard to find only since we didn't know the area and was using google.. but it was really just us... its on 101 so you really can't miss it. Just look for "HSH" All the meat had great flavor, moist and was tender... I tried the Carolina sauce and the regular but honestly it was great without the sauce. They didn't have some of the items, like the pork belly or sweet potatoes, so I was bit bummed since I was really looking forward to that. There were no fountain drinks as the machine was broken, but they had some in a fridge. Staff were friendly and service was quick... it was clean inside and had windows down the front...

Well here's my review for Humboldt Smokehouse bbq. Again I wanted to give a 5 star review but I just can't. I ordered the 3 meat plate with 2 sides. I ordered the sliced beef brisket, the slices were the average 1/4" thick but with brisket or ribs I always look for that reddish smoke ring but it really wasn't there. Plus there's that test. The bend and pull test. If the slice has a good bend and if it easily pulls apart it's a good way to know what that slice is not dry and is juicy. Second was the brisket burnt ends that is like the juiciest, tender, melts in yo mouf meat candy. But it was like jerky. The third was the pulled chicken. That was ok. The sides were baked beans and slaw. The baked beans also were ok. But the slaw really lacked flavor but at least they had some texture without being soggy. Well this was another working on the road looking for good bbq adventure. Until then. I'm out.

Excellent food and service! Pulled pork was tender but needed more flavor so I added the Kansas City spicy bbq sauce and that made it so much better. Burnt ends were flavorful, some were dry but others were juicy. The linguisa was excellent on its own. The brisket was small but fall apart tender. Usually it can be chewy but this was great. Def loved the beans, deviled eggs, and vinegar slaw.

Tried this place twice now and unfortunately got sick from the "Cadillac Burrito." Hoping it's a one-off thing, but still unpleasant.

The six sauces available: Kentucky, Spicy Kentucky, Lexington, Georgia, and Mustard

We stopped here after visiting the very lovely Sequoia Zoo nearby. I was very much in the mood for bbq and wanted to try a local restaurant, so after some searching, we came across this place on Google. The building it's inside is very cute and historical, but once inside, it feels a lot less enthusiastic. I ordered the two meat combo with a side of Mac n cheese, whereas my husband ordered the Mac Daddy, a type of bbq & Mac n cheese burrito wrap. Once ordered, we were directed to get any sauces at their little condiments table. Above it was a chalk board describing each sauce, which is appreciated. I got each sauce so I could try them all. My pulled pork was a bit dry and overall not very flavorful. I didn't get much smokiness or anything from it, so it really just became a vehicle for bbq sauce; which is sad as smoked pork is my absolute favorite. The brisket was better! It was juicy and tender, with a very light smoke ring visible. Both I felt were complimented best by the Lexington vinegar-based sauce and the mustard sauce. Overall out of six sauces, I think the Lexington, Mustard, and Spicy Kentucky were the best ones. My husband did enjoy his Mac Daddy, but felt that the flavors just kinda melded into one, making it a little bland. He said that adding the mustard sauce definitely helped. My Mac n cheese side was very bland, and not very creamy or anything, just a block in it's bowl. Overall, we wish it had been better, but it wasn't the worst.

We saw this place had good reviews so wanted to try it out! it's located downtown so it's mostly street parking! We went in around noon and it surprisingly wasn't busy at all. We ordered right away! But, a lot of the good stuff were sold out or they just didn't have it? Like beef, brisket, corn bread, etc. I was very disappointed so much were sold out. We just decided to get the sausages and pork belly with mac and cheese and beans and deviled eggs. When we got our food we were so shocked at how huge the portions were lol - it was like enough for a whole family of 5 ppl. Obviously we couldn't finish it all lol! Anyway, the food was good but nothing amazing. Staff were very kind though! Bathroom was also clean too.

Really dry chicken & chopped brisket. Very disappointed.

Our server was very pleasant and let us know the special of the day, a halibut dish with a creamy pepper sauce. Debating between that and another dish, we asked her recommendation and she suggested the fish. So we did it. My wife and I traditionally split meals at restaurants, because they generally give you so much food, you leave uncomfortably stuffed. We prefer leaving comfortably satisfied. So we split the Arugula Salad. They bring complementary bread with a garlic butter or basalmic and olive oil. We preferred the basalmic. The garlic butter wasn't very garlicky. But the salad was excellent. They split it for us for a small upcharge. The Halibut was excellent. We had to split it ourselves, but that was not a problem for us. It was served over couscous and was excellent. A bit small to split, so we added a cheesecake dessert with ganache. Very good. We paired it all with a Cabernet from the Oakville area of Napa (where we had just visited) and it was excellent as well. Our server was attentive. The pacing of our meal was very well done. Not too long between check-ins, but also not rushed. We recommend!

Major turn off and it was also pretty loud as the bar goers were getting drunker by the minute and louder as they went along. There were two waitresses that helped us (they took turns if the other was busy because they were also attending the bar as well). Both were very nice, attentive, and friendly and gave us good service throughout our meal. I am conflicted about the steak because the steak was very delicious, tender, perfectly cooked to my liking and had a good flavor to it. However, it was ruined because it was way way too salty!!!! Also the Zoragonla butter was awful for me it was way too overpowering and actually took away from the delicious meat. I regeted spending the extra $4 for that topping. The baked potato I thought was the star of the meal. Wonderfully prepared, soft and tender. Good quality butter and sour cream to go with it made it one of the better potatoes I have had at a steak place. I ate my entire potato which I never do! My husband's Ribeye was a little overcooked and he also complained about the saltiness as well. But agree with me on the baked potato being very good. Overall, the steak is very good but I would ask for it to be unsalted and just season it yourself to your liking because the kitchen way over does it. I would also get it to go unless you enjoy breathing smoke while you eat. I don't so I would not eat in again.
