The girl that was helping me was very nice and since I was the only one there and it was my first time she was very patient and explained and recommended a lot of items. I decided for a Custom Bowl with half rice & chickpeas with spring mix salad. I couldn't decided on the hummus other than the spicy harrisa and she recommended the tzatziki sauce and also the eggplant hummus. As for protein she opened each lid for me to see but at the end decided for chicken shawarma Onto the next were the toppings and I literally got a little bit of everything. They currently have a Friday falafel deal where you can get five pieces for only one dollar the staff are super nice and the falafel was honestly worth it for a dollar and it also came with some tahini sauce on the side which was pretty good. It has a small interior with no indoor seating, but the plaza itself has so many nice outdoor seating for dining and lounging. It is a build-your-own type of place and you can choose a bowl, wrap, or pita. I love build-your-own because I pack on everything possible and it is super filling and worth the money. I have never had couscous before, so that was a new and interesting base for me. It is considered a type of pasta because it is made from wheat flour and water, and it was very flavorful and a great rice substitute. I loved the hummus and spread options, especially the kalamata olive since I notice that not a lot of places offer this type. I got lemon chicken for my protein, which was super delicious and well-flavored. However, it is a bit too soft for my liking--almost paste-like. I prefer my chicken to have more of a bite. I went crazy and pretty much added all the available toppings. The bowl was delicious, fresh, filling, and overall so satisfying. Today I went to Hummus Republic at Bella Terra in Huntington Beach and the experience was anything but positive. First, I must preface that I rarely (if ever) write a negative review on Yelp and to prompt me to do so had to have been a really bad experience. This was just that. I am vegan and was very much looking forward to building a salad and had considered leaving when I observed the wilted spinach and lettuce but decided to give it a chance. The store was clean and the woman who was working didn't appear to be thrilled to be there. I asked a few questions with reference to the chickpeas that were on the online menu and she pointed to a bowl of chickpeas in plastic bag that looked like they were days old and stated that they were cold and if I wanted them warmed up she could do so. I declined as I simply wanted to leave at that point. I provided a tip as a courtesy and she did not thank me for the order nor the tip; simply told me that utensils were in the corner of the restaurant. The salad was $13.50 and with a $1.50 tip, this was the most expensive wilted salad I ever paid for. Again, I had really been looking forward to a great Hummus Republic experience but it was a complete fail. My husband is Greek so I wanted to try this place. I just grabbed a little side of tzatziki and reg hummus to try. It's overpriced in my opinion. Four tiny scoops and 1 piece of pita bread was $8. The skin is left on all of the cucumber and it was very bitter. My husband told me that's the traditional way to make it is with the green skin on. Personally I always peel some off so it doesn't have that bitter taste. The lemonades looked really good though, I would try those next time and maybe a wrap. Nestled in across from the Bella Terra Cinemark theatres is this gem. This is a build your own bowl, wrap or burrito. The staff is so friendly. She offered tastes of the hummus (all 6 flavors) and the meats. We chose the bowl with half garbanzo beans and couscous. This combo of those 2 were delicious. We choose 3 of the hummus - eggplant, spicy hummus and olive hummus. All the chicken we felt was a little dry. We chose the falafel and added our toppings. The garbanzo croutons were yummy. The server offered us a selection of sauces. The falafel was slightly dry as well. Overall, the concept is great, the restaurant was squeaky clean and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. It should really be ranked 4.5 stars but I had to chose. It was the dryness of the chicken and falafel that dropped it to 4 stars. Please try this place, everything was great. Amazing choices for us, since we have been healthy vegans for the last 7+ years. A very helpful, patient, and friendly employee walked us through the many selections available for us.
