We were in the area for a trivia night and decided to check out Hummus Way for a to-go order. The service was a little slow, but that's because there were only two ladies working behind the counter and they were pretty crowded. They were very friendly and patient while people decided what they wanted on their bowls/pitas--they were also very apologetic for the wait. When we got to our destination and got to take the first bite of our food, we immediately knew it was worth the wait! The bowl I ordered was absolutely delicious! You get to build your own, so I opted for spinach, rice, lemon pepper chicken, zesty feta and tzatziki, onions, feta crumbles, garlic sauce, and topped it with their crispy chickpeas. It was so good that I wanted to save half of it to enjoy the next day, but ended up eating the whole thing because I couldn't resist! The sauces paired well together, and both the eggplant and harissa hummuses were great. I would also note getting the red cabbage salad as a topping! I ordered the lemon turmeric chicken shawarma bowl and I was very impressed! I ordered my bowl with half rice/half couscous and spinach as my base and added most of the toppings. My favorite toppings were the pesto and the chickpeas on top. I highly recommend this place if you like fresh and filling Mediterranean style food. You can't safely serve food with your business feeling like you've stepped inside hell. The gentleman that helped us was pleasant but did seem a bit overwhelmed. The food didn't look appetizing so it was hard to choose. The meats are all shredded. That's just bizarre. Maybe it's normal for Mediterranean food but I've personally never have been served shredded meats at a Mediterranean restaurant. It felt like that was on purpose to make it appear to be more than it was. The overall flavor is just not there. The hummus had zero taste. As well as the meats. This place is a true gem - and it's open during this crazy coronavirus time! On my only venture outdoors in a week, I decided to support a local business and saw that Hummus Way was open, and I am so glad that I did! The food is delicious!!! It is a Mediterranean build-your-own sort of place and the real winner for me was the fact that you could have potato wedges as a base! You could also do rice or something else but the potato wedges were soooo good! I mainly eat vegetarian so I went with the mushroom shawarma, which is mushroom and veggies marinated in shawarma spices and it was really tasty! The owner Sameer also threw in some falafels and they were really good too (I'm picky about falafels!). I got the chicken shawarma bowl for my husband which he said was delicious and full of flavor. Overall I appreciated the fact that this place tries to be a step up from the others by their thoughtful ingredients. Besides the mushroom shawarma, there's also zesty feta, kalamata olive hummus, and zaatar-spiced chickpea croutons (roasted chickpeas), to name a few.
