The fried rice had large chunks of fried egg which was great. Each of the veggie dishes had an abundance of veggies in them. That was very much welcomed. They are extremely rude. I called to order some food to pick up. I looked at the menu on their website and their prices. When I placed my order instead of the $28 I added up for the food according to their website menu, the woman taking my order said the total was $60 -- that's TWICE the price I came up with. I understand that websites don't always get updated and that what she quoted me are their actual prices. I just wanted to point out that discrepancy. Located in an idyllic neighborhood close to both the beach and Golden Gate Park, Hunan Cafe 2 is a little restaurant run by a husband-and-wife duo and is the perfect place to pick up takeout for a good deal. I cannot recommend the dry braised green beans enough -- I think I can eat three servings of these in a single sitting. They're perfectly seasoned and crunchy, and they were a huge hit among my friend group. The hot garlic sauce chicken wings were also fantastic. This restaurant does not skimp on the sauce! The other Yelp reviews were 100% right in that this cafe packs your takeout containers to the brim with food. Our four entrees came out to about $42 -- and it's honestly pretty hard to find such a good deal on food in the city these days. Lilly is amazing and her food is our go to for takeout!! We have been coming here for 6 years. We discovered Hunan Cafe 2 or Lily's place as we call it when I was pregnant with my first son and was trying to eat a ton of spicy Chinese food and get the baby out. Now 3.5 kids later and we still go get food from Lily as often as we can. She always asks about our family and Santa's home with extra fortune cookies for the kids. Now on to the food- we love almost everything here but the Chicken Chow Mein, green onion pancakes, soups, and Honey Walnut Shrimp, and broccoli beef stand out as some of the best Chinese food we have ever had. The worst Mapo Tofu i have ever had in my life. It did not have any sichuan pepper. The restaurant gets ready made sauces and curries from outside, which upon customer order they just assemble things. They make mapo tofu with schezuan sauce bought from the market We also got vegetable delight, which was equally bad. No flavour. It was steamed vegetables only. There is a reason why this place is cheaper than other places. There is no authentic flavor, the portion size is small, and they dont make anything at the restaurant and assemble store bought items. Fyi , this is my experience as a Delivery order. 1st about the food , it was okay with an order of Beef and Bean Cake where the meat was very tender , and a generic order of Chow Mein. My issue was with the fact that the price quote from Postmates was $10 off from the final price charged for the food not counting any of the fees. Okay, like so many others, the sweet proprietors won my heart. So kind, so sweet, so very attentive. I was tired, I was hungry, I was cranky and since the pandemic I have been truly afraid of trying any new or old favorite Chinese restaurants because everything has "changed" so much. This food was exactly what it was supposed to be. The Mongolian beef had the PERFECT balance of beef, sauce, onions, and spice! (Yes!) The combination chow mein didn't skimp on anything (it was a tad plain, but, I treat my chow mein like rice, so it was perfect for me! My sautéed tender greens were just bok choi (yes, I was sad) but they WERE baby bok choi and they were tender! I just like a little something more authentic like a bitter mustard green, etc - but I was tired and didn't ask- so my fault. The pot stickers were not my favorite and I'm very, very, spoiled on the perfect Kuo Teh! Yet, the next day in the air fryer puffed then up golden, crispy, & chewy like I like 'em - so no harm, no foul! I'm happy I've found a new little family I can trust. Delicious food. Our order is Mongolian chicken, veggie fried rice, and veggie chow mein. We've decided this is our best order of Chinese food ever and is currently our favorite place. We literally have to discipline ourselves to only have it once a week. We went for a sunset hike at Land's End and were looking for some restaurants nearby to eat once we ended our hike on the west side of the park. Fortunately, Hunan Cafe was one of the restaurants that were within walking distance - only 15 minutes. When we arrived it was quite and completely empty, we were a bit hesitant to enter, but with good ratings we decided to give it a shot. We were greeted by a kind lady who spoke English and Cantonese. We were the only ones in the restaurant but there were plenty of people doing take out / delivery. We quickly ordered the Chicken Foo Yung and the Moo Shu Beef - two dishes I actually haven't had before. Within 5 - 10 minutes both dishes came out, so we got them super quick! Most of the dishes here were between $10 - $13. In total our bill was around $26 for these two dishes. The food was pretty great overall, and definitely exceeded my expectations. The food was tasty and savory and I definitely enjoyed every bite of it. The only criticism I have is that the Foo Yung was a bit too salty, but in general it was fine. I think it was pretty good overall, I'd definitely come back again if I'm in the area. read more
