Its just ok... This is definitely not the best Chinese restaurant in Warrenton. Plain fried rice : bland, no seasonings, at least throw some salt in it. I'm not trying to drown my rice in soy sauce, i should of just ordered white rice then because that's all this was, white rice and something that gave it a brown color. fried dumplings : first impression they look ugly never seen a dumpling like this before and looked they just gave me fried won tons, small amount of meat which got me thinking if they gave me won tons instead, tasteless meat inside, no seasonings, very oily too. Without the the dumpling sauce these are bland and tasteless not worth the 7.95. I actually want my money back for these these are sad tasting and sad looking. Egg rolls and spring rolls: they both use the same wrap, wet mushy vegetables in side both, like vegetables weren't drained and dried properly after washing the vegetables, again not much taste without sauce, the crispy wrappers tastes great but not the vegetables. General tso chicken is edible if you like eating soggy breaded chicken and had some flavor but its ruined with the thin breading , no crisp to the chicken like they just use the same kind of thin breading like in sweet and sour chicken and is cut into smaller pieces, breading gets soggy immediately and you lose any crisp that was there , just becomes a weird soggy texture when eating, its like wet bread, sauce taste like sweet and sour sauce thickened with added chili peppers No complaints on service they take your order and bring the food to the table and thats it, you have to get your own napkins forks ect. I did notice a rack of what appeared to be cooked chicken sitting out in the kitchen, which is okay if they are monitoring the temperatures and not letting it sit out for over 4 hours, but my guess is that it was probably sitting out all morning and lunch, not a safe practice. This isn't affecting my 2 stars since i don't know for sure. Also im guessing it was the Delivery driver, when i was eating he went into the bathroom several times and was coughing and hacking up his lungs sounding really nasty and really loud could be heard in the dinning room and kitchen, the Chinese lady in the kitchen kept looking at me when the guy was coughing. She had this look on her face like why is this guy being so loud while customers are eating. This doesn't affect my score since i don't care but im sure this would bother other people while eating. Its okay if your trying to not eat any salt Not sure why Chinese restaurants are moving away from MSG when its used regularly in Chinese culture, also its approved by the FDA and taste so good. She just picked up a food order around 3.15pm, 15 minutes after the lunch hour ends and was told that it was too late for lunch. Wow. That's how flexible you are when comes to your customers? Can't believe I'm just adding a review for Hunan Cafe in Warrenton. This place is fantastic. Since they've opened the food has consistently been fresh and delicious. I've tried almost everything on their menu and have never been disappointed. They are willing to customize your order as needed without complaint and the service is above and beyond. For those of us that struggle with accents, they have that covered as well with the young ladies that work the front and take your orders. Before they opened I ordered Chinese food from Waterloo Cafe exclusively, which is also good. But since Hunan Cafe opened I've stoped going to Waterloo Cafe and only use Hunan Cafe. They're less than 2 minutes from the house and I've never had them deliver so I have no opinion on their delivery service. But every order was ready when they said it would be and the food is always hot and fresh. Can't say enough great things about them. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ordered my food at 6:00pm. You didn't start cooking it untill 7:00pm. Yet I sat and waited while I heard you take new orders, cooked their food and delivered it while I was waiting. I know you were busy but take the orders first come first serve. Rather than prioritizeing deliveries over people waiting for an hour. As it stands my food still isn't ready. Last week (Wed. 1/6) finally got a chance to try this place. (Fairly new, & for some reason it never popped into our minds before when we felt like Chinese takeout that was on my husband's route home from work.) Was pleasantly surprised. Husband ordered "Egg Drop Soup" ($1.50) to start, while I went for the "Hot & Sour Soup" ($1.50) which I always consider a first good gauge re: food quality. Both soups were supplied with packets of crisp wide Chinese noodles. Husband said his Egg Drop Soup was the norm & okay; my Hot & Sour was better than the norm & better than okay. Nice & spicy/sour for starters, which was a relief. Can't tell you how many times I've had to beef up takeout H&S soup with more pepper & vinegar. This version also had a lot of "stuff" - as in lots of tofu cubes, pork shreds, bamboo shoots, & even the requisite black "Cloud/Wood Ear" mushrooms that so many restaurants cheaply leave out. So a very nice start. To follow the soup, husband ordered the "Chicken with Cashew Nuts" ($8.95), which was mildly seasoned, but greaseless, & again got an "it's okay" nod. I ordered my favorite "Singapore Rice Noodles" ($8.25), & asked husband to order it "extra spicy". I don't think I have EVER ordered this anywhere where I've actually been given "rice noodles". It always seems to be made with regular long vermicelli-type pasta, but I don't mind so long as the rest of the dish is up to par, as this was. Again - lots of "stuff": shrimp, beef, pork, chicken, & shredded vegetables all lightly tossed with curry-spiced noodles. While I can't say that I found it "extra spicy", it had more of a kick to it than most other takeout places have provided. Portions were a very nice size (we had leftovers for a next-day lunch), white rice was provided to accompany husband's chicken dish, & the usual packets of hot mustard, soy, & duck sauce were tossed into the bag, along with a few wrapped fortune cookies. All in all, we'd definitely do takeout from here again (although husband did say he'd choose a different, more interesting, entrée). Apparently place is small - like, only a couple of small tables for eat-in - so husband said that takeout is probably a better bet. But it's nice to have what so far seems to be a decent Chinese takeout place, since so many of them do seem to fall well below the bar & they all seem to pretty much charge the same prices. read more

Wouldn't eat Chinese anywhere else ever again in this town. I'm a sucker for both clean and fresh, when it comes to food there's no compromise here. The food is not processed, no MSGs, staff speaks clearly and is very polite. The foods is always fresh and I've eaten here more than 20 separate times as I craved Chinese my last pregnancy, eating here not only hit the spot but didn't make me feel guilty afterwards. My favorite starter is Crab Rangoon and my favorite dish here is Singapore Noodles, but if your not a spicy eater I recommend Sweet-N-Sour Chicken as it's a family favorite and always a hit! (*They can be stingy with the fortune cookies, but I won't knock the stars down as the food makes up for it in the end, but hey who doesn't love their fortune cookies, just ask for a couple more - I'm sure they'd oblige!) read more

My mother and I came to this location on a recommendation from a friend who lives in Warrenton. My mother and I both though the staff were very nice and pleasant. The food was delicious too. It wasnt smothered in heavy sauces and the dishes seemed to have plenty of veggies which I love. Where I live now the only delivery place is China Inn and I'd be much happier driving 20 minutes to Warrenton to eat this food than wait for delivery. My family will be returning to this restaurant soon as its become one of our new favorite Chinese spots. We ordered the Chicken & Broccoli (delicious!), the Kung Pow Chicken (I thought it was great but it wasnt spicy, so you may want to ask if you like it spicier), Vegetable Fried Rice (tasty), and the Chicken Lo Mein (I thought was great but it could have used a little more sauce). Wow. What a treat! Garlic chicken that actually had some heat! Julienned veggies, thin strips of chicken and actual woodear instead of regular mushrooms. Lunch specials (Monday - Saturday) with fried rice and the lightest egg roll - really a spring roll - I've ever had. I will be back! Finally! We found a tasty Chinese place in Warrenton! And the best part was they have a large vegetarian 'chicken' menu which I haven't seen in awhile. I had veggie spring rolls which were about normal and Joe had wonton soup which he said was average too. But both the general tso's fake chicken and the general tso's chicken were really yummy. Portions were good too and we both brought home enough for a second meal. We will definitely be returning. Meal was $27 without drinks. I'm sure those weren't gluten free which is why I usually stick to general tso's tofu, but they were worth the belly ache. read more

Although not the best Chinese food in the world, definitely the best in WARRENTON!!! I've been here a handful of times and the food has always been HOT and tasty. I usually get General Tso's at Chinese restaurants because it's reliably good and Hunan Cafe doesn't fall short of that expectation. Today I ordered the Szechuan green beans with beef and it was AWESOME! Finally, a Chinese restaurant that can make food spicy. I didn't even ask for it spicy, because after many attempts at other restaurants I've learned this request falls on deaf ears, but there were plenty of diced hot peppers in the meal, that complemented the spring onions and soy sauce flavors. Their egg rolls are more similar to spring rolls, but still delicious. This will definitely be the only Chinese restaurant I eat at in warrenton from now on. Well done! read more

I have enjoyed lunch here a few times, by myself and with a co-worker, but today I had to take a late lunch and had to order dinner instead as I had missed the cut off time for lunch prices. (Dinners cost more.) My order with a bottled drink came to a little over $13. I was told that the minimum to use a credit/debit card was $15, so I would have to pay cash. I didn't have enough cash on me, so I couldn't eat here. For a dollar and change, they lost my business. I am absolutely sure I have never paid cash here before, so the whole thing didn't make sense or add up! VERY disappointed. Poor. Customer. Service. This is the best Chinese place in town and it doesn't hurt your wallet either. The staff is very nice and understanding and the food doesn't take long to make. My family ordered at least twenty different things and it only took ten minutes. While your waiting they even have hot tea and water you can help yourself to. I ordered General Tso's chicken and it was delicious! The wonton soup isn't bland and the egg rolls are on the small side but very delicious! Sweet and Sour Pork- Not sweet. Not Sour. Under cooked donut holes with piece of pork inside. A container of orange colored sauce did nothing for the dish. It tasted like simple syrup with no discernible flavor. There were 2 pieces of pineapple and 4 thin carrot slices. Don't know if the headache that started almost immediately after trying this food was due to amount of grease from fryer or MSG. I know they are not suppose to use it which was reason for me to stop here rather than elsewhere. I am extremely sensitive to it. Total disappointment. And a headache. Not good. read more

I've been wanting to try Hunan for a few months now since it opened, and I'm glad last week I got the chance. On whim I called and it turned out I was in the 6 mile delivery radius. I ordered lomein, egg rolls, and sugar donuts. The food came 40 minutes after I ordered, and the delivery guy seemed to be in a rush and was apologetic. I ordered at dinnertime on a weekend, which is logically prime delivery time. Anyway the food was great, I had a good experience and will definitely order again!
