Food is great..I do feel like the restaurant could use a few updates here and there. I prefer getting takeout from here, but as another review stated- the person answering the phone is a little tough to deal with- I deal with it because I like the food but it's pretty consistent with the attitude. (You see it with other people as well if you wait inside the restaurant for your food) Sesame chicken, lo mein, egg rolls, general tsos, the oil- free options...all solid. I'd skip on the moo sho- not overly impressed there. Would I travel for the food and restaurant? No. Maybe not the best date spot either. It's great if you're in the area and craving it! read more

I have come here for many years and grew up in the area. Today, I got take out and it was horrible. Not the quality it used to be. I haven't had food from here in about 6-8 months, and the taste is very different. The ribs were very dry. Overall, just wasn't worth an $80 price tag for this meal. Very disappointing. Once again the food tasted like it was cooked by chefs that do not know Hunan or Chinese cooking. The skin on the dumplings was the thick @ undercooked - seemed like they ran out of the filling. Egg rolls were doughy and undercooked Chicken with broccoli had mostly raw broccoli- sauce was insipid. Fried rice was dry - pea shoots were definitely not Chinese or Hunan. I've been going here or ordering in from here for 24 25 years. While it's good food, they are rude they rush you and they are disorganized. (Take out specifically) You order, they tell you 30 min, you show up, and then you wait 30 minutes... this has happened more than once In fact, they told me they gave my order to someone else and that i would wait another 20 min for my food, and half the items were not available any more. More and more friends are telling us that MasterChef is better food anyway. read more

I wanted to love this place so much but it didn't meet my expectations. The service was satisfactory with the exception that it took the waiter too long to get my bill to me. I must have waited 20 minutes to get my bill after I let him know I was done. The food was Lacking flavor. I remember the original Hunan Taste in Valley Stream. I must say that my experience at Hunan Taste was beyond horrific. The staff, managment are so incredibly rude and disrespectful that I will never go back there. Many of the dishes we ordered came out cold or were uncooked and when we mentioned our concerns to the waiter, he practically threw the dishes in our faces. This place is not recommended at all. Hunan Taste is always my go-to destination to fuel my American Chinese cuisine cravings. The restaurant serves your classic American Chinese, but what makes them truly stand out from the crowd is their focus on using high quality ingredients. Prices of the dishes will come at a premium, but it's worth the extra $2-3. There are definitely better options for American Chinese cuisine in NYC, but only a few good options available on Long Island. Service is always exceptional and you never feel rushed even when the restaurant is fully packed with customers. The restaurant isn't too large, so you may have to wait for a table. I've never had any issues getting a table on weekdays, but you may have to wait on weekends. With so few good options on Long Island, I do recommend Hunan Taste to others. My only bad experience occurred on a pickup order where I was told that a certain dish, peking duck, would only be available if I paid in cash. I understand if the dish was sold out, but this just sounded like a shady business practice. As a regular customer, this experience was disappointing and did not live up to the many good experiences I had in the restaurant. read more

My partner and I got FOOD POISONING from eating here that landed me in the hospital and with follow up doctor appointments. When I notified the owner/manager, he was rude about it and tried to deny it instead of apologizing and notifying the Department of Health. I would never recommend this place to anyone who wants a good, safe place. read more

It was our 2nd time ordering here since it's close to home. We loved the food the first time we ordered. Today was 'ok'. We ordered the buddha delight, ribs, egg drop soup & sesame chicken. Buddha delight was a little on the oily side - a little too oily for our liking. The ribs was a little burnt than the first time we ordered. The rest was okay. Honestly liked the egg drop soup out of all of the items. We called in our orders for pick-up. First of, wish the people on the phone had a little customer service in them. When I called and asked if they had fried chicken wings, I was given an attitude and said "we don't serve that here". Could've said it a little nicely. Also, upon picking up, the valet asked if i was picking up for uber or personal order. Told him it was for me, took my card and didn't say anything else. So I assumed I should follow him inside so I double parked my car in front of the entrance since there were no cars waiting outside. He gave me my order then told me to wait outside. He went back in to charge my card then said I was blocking the way. Mind you, I was double parked close to the entrance and cars can still drive in the parking lot. Valet was a little rude and no communication about my order. Had I known, I would've parked and waited for him. Wish the customer service was a little better. I get how busy they can be since it's always packed when we pass by but at the time of pick-up, no one was waiting at the parking. read more

I just started coming to Hunan Taste and it is now a regular go to for us. From the moment you get out of your car the service is great. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating . Most importantly the food , both quality and taste, is what you would hope for and the portions large . There seem to be a lot of regulars here and I can understand why. read more

The absolute worst service I have ever seen in a restaurant. Waiters and hosts are incredibly rude, throw your food at you, and go out of their way to be nasty. We have been there many times, but it's reached the point that I will not be going back, especially given that there are several other alternatives that have much better service (and better food)! If you are looking for better options, try Pearls East or O Mandarin. The only nice member of the staff is the valet man, who is particularly nice. As a whole, would definitely AVOID if you want to be treated decently. read more

Food is ok on its best day. Prices are way too high for what it is and compared to other Chinese restaurants. The real issue is the staff, more specifically the person that answers the phone. I assume he is the owner. So rude for no reason. I would rather pay twice as much anywhere else than ever recommend this restaurant. I don't know why the owner has an attitude. Grew up in Flushing where the best Chinese restaurants are in my opinion but if you're in Long Island, this has to be the place to go. My family and I have been going since I was a kid and I have to say, the food here is really great. I have read some other reviews saying the staff is rude but I have never found that to be the case. Everyone always seemed genuinely happy to see us and are always attentive to our orders. The Hu family is great people and they also have a lot of celebs that dine there as well. Great food, great atmosphere and great people! If you're around the area, definitely give it a try! read more

A lot of people have said this is the best Chinese food on Long Island. While I agree that it was good, I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had. We all tried the lettuce wraps. The filling was good, but the lettuce could have used some jazzing-up. I had the chu chu chicken, which I guess gets its name from the sizzling sound it makes when it comes out. It had a very unique flavor (that or the "chu" in chutes). It was served with a ton of veggies from mushrooms and baby corn to bamboo chutes. While it was good, it's not something I would rush back to have again. The meal served its purpose in fulfilling my Chinese food craving, but I'd rather venture out to Elaine's in Great Neck. read more

Hunan Taste is consistently delicious! The owners and staff are friendly, funny and welcoming. Their pork dumplings with hot sesame sauce are worth the trip we make from Queens alone! Their ribs are perfection. We've been coming here a long time (20+years) and never had a dish that was less than delicious. We've run through nearly the whole menu. NOT authentic Chinese cuisine!! Service was horrible. Delivery was late & missing items. We called to let them know the Peking duck didn't come with the sides to eat it with (buns, sauce & scallions). We spoke to 3 multiple people on that same call to repeat multiple times what was missing in both English and Chinese! First of all, we Chinese. We know what Peking duck is. Don't talk to us like we never had Peking duck before. When the delivery guy came, it was still missing scallions. Seriously?! Called again and a different guy answers and says we told them only the buns were missing! No. We said exactly what was missing the guy on the phone even said, "the metal company container has 8 pieces and the scallions are under that." MULTIPLE TIMES!! This is ridiculous. I'm don't know what I'm more upset about: the crappy service or the fact I have to wait for the side orders to be able to eat my Peking duck - which is cold cause it's been almost an hour!!!! I don't recommend this place! It shouldn't even say they're authentic cause this is worse than take out!!! read more

first off, the place is overcrowded & very loud !!! so the first thing we noticed as we walked in and sat down is the staff is all over. then we noticed that they're kinda in a rushing mode, which is a very uneasy feeling when you're eating & are trying to enjoy your food & company, we felt rushed while being there. so i wanted to order hunan beef and the guy was all confused and said we don't have that here, huh ?! how can you not ? they have hunan chicken but not beef, weird and funny for a place that's called hunan taste, i ended up getting another dish... food was pretty good and the portions weren't small but the cost for two without appetizers was over $80, which is way overpriced for the food we got. not coming back for sure, would not recommend !! read more
