Tangerine chicken, sesame beef, chicken and broccoli, spring roll, and vegetable fried rice
    Jeremy W.

This is Chinese restaurant I been wanting to try out for a long time and came here yesterday for lunch. I placed an order for pick up and ordered tangerine chicken, chicken and broccoli, sesame beef, spring rolls, and vegetable friend rice. The prices are definitely on the high side, but you're paying for quality here. The food here is cooked with great quality protein and cooked authentic which I enjoyed and loved. The sesame beef by far was me and my wife's favorite, followed by the chicken and broccoli & tangerine chicken. All 3 dishes were solid and very flavorful. After finally trying this place, idk I'll ever be able to eat Chinese any where else. Best Chinese food I tried so far on the island. Food is 10/10 and top tier! I highly recommend this place to anyone who lives on Long Island and wants to try quality Chinese food. You will not be disappointed, lil pricey, but well worth it.

First time at Hunan Taste, what took me so long?? Came on a recommendation of a 'professional foodie' and we were not disappointed. Summary: top-end ingredients, prepared by top culinary pros, served by a welcoming and friendly professional staff. Details below... For starters, it's a good thing they have valet parking. The lot is a little tight and takes a skilled driver to get all the fancy cars safely parked. The restaurant itself is very nice inside, with a modern, comfortable dining room. It was very busy, for a Monday night no less, no doubt all the food is fresh here. The wait wasn't too bad, it's first come first served. Upon seating, we got crispy fried noodles with duck sauce and spicy mustard. These noodles are clearly home made and not out of a package. Even the duck sauce was kicked up a notch - not Saucy Susan. Ok, new bars set already and we haven't even ordered anything yet! We started with pork dumplings, bbq ribs, beef on a stick, scallion pancakes - all outrageous. I couldn't tell you which was a standout, you wouldn't be disappointed with anything here. Our server John was incredible, always around when needed, and helped us with our order and our questions. For entrees, we had: - the orange sliced beef with lots of shredded carrots - it was delicious. Maybe eat the beef alone to see the quality of this steak. Perfectly cooked, not an easy thing to do with steak shredded that thin. Cleaver skills are on point in the kitchen. - Peking duck pancakes (chun bing 春饼), we did a full duck, which was eight pancakes. Each were wrapped individually with a perfectly butchered thin slice of duck and piece of deliciously seasoned crackle of skin. - lobster - served with a ginger garlic sauce and a ton of vegetables (snow peas, broccoli, etc.). We kept the lobster in the shell, and they strategically crack it so it's easy to pick the juicy meat out. Oh, and this bad boy is about a three pounder. Enough for everyone to have a taste. Enjoy! Don't be the last person on Long Island who hasn't tried it yet!

The last couple of times I tried to come here, the wait was out the door, so long that my group bailed. So I called tonight, just two people, and we went right in with no wait! Third time's the charm. This place is as charming on the inside as it is on the outside. If it seems overdone on the outside (make sure to enjoy the live koi!), it gives way to tasteful elegance on the inside. There is no dress code, but don't wear shorts or a T-shirt. Level up a bit. For those who remember Chengdu 46, that's what it's like here - upscale ambiance without being a gourmet restaurant. That said: this is gourmet cuisine. I ordered from the full page of Chinese authentic recipes: Szechuan boiled stew - with beef as it is the traditional meat, I was told. SIde of rice, extra spicy. When it came out, presentation: 10/10. My stars, that was enough food for an entire family. I took my first bite and immediately stopped responding to the outside world. How was my food? I nodded. Other than more water and requesting a second bowl of rice (which was gladly provided at no fee), I went through pretty much the entire gigantic platter in one go. That. is five stars. My mother said chicken and mixed vegetable was 5 stars delicious. The only flaw was too much starch in the sauce, but a review later confirmed that traditional Chinese sauce does use a lot of starch. Authentic through and through. And if you couldn't tell from this, service is also gourmet. You are greeted immediately, escorted straight to your seat, and water appears. Utensils appear. WIth the size of this restaurant and the population ordering inside, there is almost always a staff member walking by your table. If they don't notice you need something, all you have to do is signal or ask, and it will be yours. Chopsticks. More water. More rice. To-go container. Young, old, different dress, we had at least 8 different people come by at some point for something. Spectacular. Out came the bill. In the end, it wasn't all that much for the quantity and quality of food that we got. Now I'm forewarned next time I come: bring my appetite. And more people to share all the food. Join me.

American Chinese food was ok, though much of it was still off-temperature due to the commute over. The rice and noodle was just-ok. Not as good flavor as an AJ Bistro. Gold coin steak was saucy, yes, but meat was tough. General cho's was soggy. The more authentic Chinese dishes, though, were much better - the xiaolongbao were good, BBQ spare ribs people liked (I found too dry and lacked flavor in the middle of the rib meat, needed more marination), Shanghai bok choy with mushroom was great, lobster & scallion was excellent. Seared green beans were good. Overall, mixed bag on dishes - I think it'll be better when I go to eat in-person.

Service from Ken and Alex was attentive, seamless, and effortless throughout. The hot and sour soup with grilled shrimp was rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced with just the right kick. The Malaysian-style red curry with seasonal vegetables, roti, and grilled shrimp, served with brown rice, was equally flavorful and well executed. Prices reflect the quality--and it shows. Also, early on, we had a little service issue that was tacitly resolved in our favor. We only wanted to order appetizers at first and later order the main courses. The server told us words to the effect that they take the order for everything at the same time because if later the restaurant is packed, the kitchen gets overwhelmed, and, also, they bring out the food whenever it's ready. As requested, we gave her our order for everything, but ultimately she was able to just serve the appetizers first and then pause until we were done with them before she brought out the main courses. My wife wanted a sweet white wine with her fish, like a Mosel. The closest they said they had was a fruity white Riesling, called Selbach/Incline, which turned out to be very fruity and delicious!

The wonton soup was decent......wontons were very good but the broth however was a bit bland. Roast pork fried rice was pretty good.....a little dry and skimpy on the pork but the flavor was more than adequate. Hot and sour soup was really tasty with a good bit of spice. Scallion bubble pancake was very light and tasty. The Emperor cabbage appetizer was probably my favorite meal item.....crispy cabbage tossed in a peanuty garlic sauce with honey. It was served cold (which usually I'm not a big fan of, but this was an exception) and had a great flavor. Pork belly appetizer tasted very good but it wasn't crispy (which would have made it so much better) and the buns they were served with didn't taste completely fresh. Dan Dan noodles with ground beef was excellent.... they're served spicy and you can simply request the level of heat you prefer to fit your taste buds. Soup dumplings were of decent size and quite juicy...... unfortunately they lacked some flavor. Mongolian beef dish was excellent as was the kung pao chicken. Overall it was a pretty good meal but there was some room for improvement. The staff was very nice and it did have quite a cool "old school American Chinese restaurant" vibe from yesteryear.
