We like Sarin BUT NEVER GO WEEKENDS. The man who is owner or manager prioritizes their takeout business to the detriment of his onsite customers. Not only individual orders but services like DOORDASH. We have been vocal about it to no avail. Frankly, I don't understand his "glee" with the takeout business. The service staff onsite is directed to focus on it too. 45 minutes waiting for your order to be taken is absurd. Frankly, I think he's a jerk about this. As it's nearby, Sarin Thai has been a staple meal to order as we have yet to dine-inside as of yet. The service, despite only ordering for take out, has been impeccable with the decor inside the restaurant being very nice for the times we have come in person for our takeout orders. I ordered vegetable pad thai, eggplant and basil, and pineapple fried rice, everything with no egg and no fish sauce and extra vegetables. The food at Sarin Thai is excellent and the service is attentive BUT I was appalled to learn when I asked for sustitutions there would be an upcharge and not a small one at that. Substituting broccoli for peppers would cost $4.00 more and brown rice for white would yield another $3.00. A $7.00 upcharge on a $24.95 dish amounts to an increased cost of 28% bringing the total to $31.95. Not what I excepted. I could accept a one dollar upcharge for the broccoli. Never have I encountered a charge for brown rice in an Asian restaurant. Go if you like but be prepared to pay dearly for substitutions. read more

Went to Sarin for lunch with a friend who selected the eggplant lunch special and she was very impressed by the quality of the ingredients and it met her vegetarian lifestyle well. Lovely Thai place just off on Glen Cove Road, just off of Northern Boulevard. Popped in for lunch today and ordered off of their lunch specials menu. My choice was Chicken Pad Ka Praw (basil chicken) with white rice. You also get a choice of chicken soup or salad and and I chose the chicken soup (at the suggestion of our server). The soup was pretty good and I sprinkled on a little ground dried pepper which really set off the flavor and added a nice punch of heat. My entree, too, was delicious and just the right portion size. Overall, I would give the food between 4 and 4.5 stars. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. The dining area is very attractive, clean, and classy. Prices are decent. Parking is available on both sides of the restaurant. It is honestly some of the best Thai food that I have had recently and I look forward to coming back, perhaps with my family next time. We started with the spring rolls. They were very good. I was expecting vegetables inside but they were filled with glass noodles. And the chili sauce that came with them was sweet with the right amount of spicy. It was a great start. Then I had Pad Thai noodles with chicken . They may have been the worst I ever tasted. There was not much chicken and even less bean sprouts and peanuts. But that wasn't the problem. It was very heavy. I guess I would say it was overly dense. There was an awful lot of a red sauce that just made the whole dish very thick and sweet. It needed acidity. Lime would not have turned it around. It wouldn't have turned it into a great dish but it certainly would have helped. The decor was quite lovely. The employees were nice. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. We have been patrons of Sarin for over 20 years. The food and service have always been exceptional. Unfortunately, yesterday showed a new side of Sarin that we hope has not becoming a trend. The restaurant appears to have become a takeout service. Only a small handful of customers sat down to eat. The line for pickup dinner orders was never ending. This would not have been as issue if there were separate staff to answer the phone and hand out the packaged food. However, this was not the case. The two servers ran back and forth continuing to help the pick-up line, while the seated dining customers waited for basic service such a water refill etc. A business model evaluation is in order. Sadly, if this were to occur again, I do not think I would return. read more

After a long hiatus, we were at Baron Nissan last night and after a bout of negotiations we were starved. Being right up the street we pulled into ST, and were glad we did. This has always been a class operation, clean, neat with great friendly service. We broke the ice with a couple of cold Singas to get us into eating mode. For appys we got the Beef Satay cooked medium rare with a wonderful char and taste. To go along with it was the best peanut sauce ever...delish with a nice afterburn! They brought out a small tray of condiments to augment the dishes which had pickled jalapanoes, hot chili flakes, spicy fish sauce and a chili sauce...all were perfect and kicked up the tastes on the dishes. We ordered for our mains Shrimp in Green Curry and Stir Fried Chicken in Hot Sauce...both delish and fixing our need for heat!! Everything was delicious and nicely cooked with nuances you dont normally find in this type of food...the tastes were addictive and we ate the leftover sauces with a spoon!! Mmmmm good. read more

The food across the board was excellent. Small things such as getting satay just right, moist and flavorful and slightly spicy inside, slightly charred on the outside with the peanut sauce done right were perfect, and stood up well perfectly to the cucumbers and Asian basil. My crispy duck too got everything perfect: moist--not oily--duck on the inside, on the outside crisped to perfection (no burning). The sauce was spiced and flavorful, hot enough that a little heat was discernible, but not so hot that you couldn't taste the other spices also at play. The sticky rice was uniformly moist and sticky, not chewy or dry as it often is. And the dumplings were also moist and flavorful without being soggy. My friend's shrimp stir fry similarly got the charring of the shrimp perfectly without even a hint of rubberiness you often see in this dish . Her complicated desert of tapioca, cream, and black beans effortlessly managed those difficult textures.
