    delish plates of meat

No matter how much I age, I fear that I'll never be able to let go of hot pot because it's a part of me. Traditional Chinese Sichuan-style hot pot is my favorite, and Chengdu did not fall short. The restaurant seemed pretty small, but we got seated right away. To give you a better idea, I would say that Chengdu's dining experience is similar to our beloved Haidilao, but without the $$$ price tag. Chengdu is like Haidilao's little sister -- but better -- and they even give you aprons. The staff was very friendly and helpful since it was our first time dining there. We ordered the half-and-half broth with bone broth and spicy Sichuan-style broth. The meats were good quality, and we even got a free plate of meat by accident, but they let us keep it. I felt super bad because we came in right at last call from the kitchen, so we had to make our decisions quickly. I love the sauce bar, which allows you to customize your dipping sauce exactly the way you like it. My go-to combination is sesame sauce with a little bit of ponzu, lots of green onions, cilantro, and garlic. After stuffing our stomachs, it was time for dessert. We ordered the mango bingsoo, which looked and sounded good. HOWEVER, this was the only thing I wouldn't recommend ordering. The flavor tasted too artificial, and it ended up tasting like watered-down mango syrup with no fresh mangoes. The only thing I really enjoyed from the bingsoo was the popsicle it came with. The popsicle was rich and creamy with a subtle mango flavor. I took one for the team on this one, but despite the disappointing dessert, everything else was great.

Chengdu Memory has been on my list for a while and it did not disappoint. The interior is clean, modern, and feels a slight step above your typical hot pot spot. We went with a two-broth split of the Tom Yum and Herbal Pork, both of which were fantastic; the herbal pork in particular was deeply flavorful with all the bones and meat it was cooked with. Fair heads up that "mild spicy" still has a real kick, and the broth does run a bit oily even if you request less. The à la carte setup gives you a lot of flexibility across a huge menu, though it can add up quickly (including a $3 sauce bar charge per person). That said, service was attentive throughout, portions were generous (I especially dig the meet ring option) enough that we left with leftovers, and the little extras like aprons, complimentary snacks, and free drink refills really elevate the overall experience.

We made a reservation for a birthday dinner for 6 on a weekday afternoon and were excited to try for the ring of meat. The staff was attentive and friendly. Our server was eager to answer any questions. We ordered on the tablet provided and ended up getting some sides, beef/pork combo, wagyu, lamb, and chicken skewers. Our broth was the pork and tomato split. The slices of meat were rather thin and I perosonally didn't care for the skewers. The american wagyu was tender. There is a side bar which is $2.99 per person for unlimited refills. We only had 2 people at our table use this so we removed the other 4 from the charge at the end. They gave us complimentary ice cream of either vanilla or chocolate at the end. The waiting area has complimentary hair ties, lens cloth, and other miscellaneous items, which made it feel like a hotel lobby in a good way. There was also a little nail station to paint your nails as you wait. The staff seemed very welcoming and the set up was nice but the food fell flat for me. It doesn't seem as worth it as an AYCE hot pot.

First timer here! Wasn't sure what to expect but was captivated by the ring of meat. We were able to join the waitlist through yelp, which was a huge plus because it was busy! The restaurant is pretty clean for a hotpot, and snack/sauce bar is always kept stocked and clean. Staffs were really kind and attentive; thank you to server Benny! - definitely makes the dining experience worth it. Nonetheless, we had a very nice dinner. Fun fact, the fried sesame balls at the snack bar is warm & delicious... I would recommend trying this place out if you're in the area!

Me encantó comer aquí! Buena comida aquí y servicio. I loved coming here. Great food and service.

Overall an enjoyable experience, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Comparable to the Seattle location, but the broth was saltier here. The meat ring was as beautiful as ever, but the quality of meat was okay. The meat was also cut a lot thinner, so the meat fell apart when picked up. Vegetables were fresh! I recommend the Cumin Lamb skewers too. Really delicious! The restaurant is really small, so I wouldn't recommend bring large parties here. However, it looks fun for birthdays! Desserts are miss here... I would not get those...

Went to Chengdu Memory for hot pot on a weeknight and overall had a really good experience! The restaurant itself is super cute inside; it has a modern meets traditional vibe with a more upscale feel than your average hot pot spot. Everything felt clean, and well put together. The food was good and the meat quality was solid. We ordered everything à la carte, which gives you flexibility, but it can definitely add up fast . One thing that caught me off guard was that they even charge $2.98 for the sauce bar which felt a little excessive considering most hot pot places includes it. That said, the staff was really attentive throughout the meal and service was smooth the whole. It was still a fun experience and I'd come back again for the atmosphere and quality.

Friday night means we need to make dreams come true and I've really wanted to try Chengdu for the longest time because of the giant wheel so this was our chosen date night place! We came fairly late in the night around 9pm but the restaurant was fairly packed but it was a very short wait before they seated us. There was a fairly huge selection of food items and our host was fairly transparent that the sauce bar was an extra $3. They do also have a 2 hour limit which I thought was interesting, but it was and is more than enough time to eat. I love how they have extensive menu with different types of broth and food items. We ordered a split of chengdu spicy broth and herbal pork broth which were super good. The herbal pork came with extra bits of meat and bones that it was boiled in and was super flavorful. The spicy broth was perfect, quick note that mild spicy was still fairly spicy and although we asked less oil, it was still a bit oily as well. As for the food items, we got the lamb and beef combo meat wheel, enoki mushroom, seafood tofu, colored veggie noodles, wide noodles, fried rice, and Chinese cabbage. We also got a milk tea share and it was unlimited refills. I didn't have high expectations but the drink we got was also delicious, super creamy and strong in tea flavor. Needless to say, we definitely over ordered and were stuffed so we had alot of left overs. The best part is we could bring it home for another meal. They also gave us a mini dessert choice of vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream. The service was also super amazing. They consistently checked up on us and we were getting broth refills. It's also very thoughtful of them to provide other mini amenities in front such as hair ties, lens clothes, nail polish etc. We had such a great experience and will definitely be back. *Quick edit to include that it's super nice of them to provide take out bags for our to go items. We had two togo containers of broth in one bag and while we were lifting it out of the car the bottom of the bag broke, so just make sure that you even out the weight if you have a second bag. Luckily we didn't lift it too quickly so nothing spilled!

When I showed this newly opened location to my friend in Seattle, he recommended I should go try it out! They first opened in Seattle before opening their second location in Fremont, and he said it was one of his favorite hot spot locations. So a couple of us local to the Bay came here one Sunday to try it out. They open at 12 pm, but I dropped my boyfriend off at the restaurant about 10-15 mins before opening while I picked up my friend nearby, as we worried about the lunch rush. When we came back just before 12 pm, there was already a sizeable crowd inside with no clear line formation. Fortunately, an employee did ask "Who arrived first?" and proceeded to seat people in a first come, first serve fashion. Ordering was done off the iPad on the table. We got a variety of meats, veggies, and noodles to share. The combo meat ring platters were reasonably priced & plenty of meat available to share! We're weak with spice, so we got the pork bone broth to share, which was really flavorful! Everything came out relatively quickly, and there was plenty of space to store extra plates, between the cart next to your table and the 2-tier stand on the table. The only key negative was the sauce bar. When everyone arrives & seats at roughly the same time, everyone will subsequently flock to the sauce bar at about the same time. As we were seated by the sauces, we easily saw the line creep up, eventually extending all the way to one of the walls of the shop. The sauce bar layout didn't allow multiple people to get sauce simultaneously, and people were standing in line for up to 10 mins just to get some sauce! We were offput by the line and thought it would die down in maybe 30 mins - this line perhaps stayed this long for almost hour since opening! Eeesh. The line did die down eventually, but at that point, we were pretty much done eating. Otherwise, the quality of the meats and veggies were very good. Definitely worth the money and the quality seemed as good as Haidilao, but at a fraction of the price!

I was super excited to try Chengdu Memory after hearing all about its glory from a food influencer in Seattle. Unfortunately, it was a let-down. After we got seated at our table, there was zero communication from anyone about how to order. There was a locked ipad on the cart that we had to rummage through to find the ordering platform. Also, not sure if it was correct, but the golden fish and chicken soup base was listed as $88 to get as a singular broth and over $50 as a secondary.. kind of absurd for just a soup base. Thus, we opted for the sichuan beef tallow + pork bone broth. The sichuan broth was good; no complaints. I wouldn't recommend getting the pork bone broth though as it tasted unusually porky -- like overboard. I noticed the same with the pork belly slices as well. I love taro so we decided to try the braised taro dish and did not like it. It just tasted like straight up mush with nonexistent taro flavor; we didn't finish it nor wanted to take it home. The meat platter ring does come with a good amount of meat at a fair value, but ultimately the quality does reflect the cost. Overall, I'd rather go elsewhere to get Sichuan hotpot. Perhaps it's better in Seattle?

Trendy new hotpot spot in Fremont!! Be prepared for a wait, but it's SO worth it. You can order items off the menu for a set portion of each--portion sizes are fairly generous. They even have a lean beef and lamb selection, which is perfect if you're looking to save a few calories. The presentation of some items is really impressive, like the meatball tower, raw fish, and skewers. I would also recommend the sweet potato glass noodles, fish tofu, and napa. Great selection of complimentary side dishes, like pork trotters and cucumber salad, as well as snack freebies in the waiting area. This is the most impressive hot pot restaurant I've been to!! Amazing experience here and will definitely be back.

Lean beef ring. Only $2 more than non lean beef ring.

Service was great. Ambiance is beautiful. Food was good but too Spicy for me. I'm not a spicy kind of girl. Sorry.

Pros: Comfortable seating with good spacing between tables. Complimentary pig's feet and dessert were a nice touch. The shrimp paste was flavorful, and the fish was especially delicious. They also offer lean beef options, which is a healthier choice. Cons: Pros: Comfortable seating with good spacing between tables. Complimentary pig's feet and dessert were a nice touch. The shrimp paste was flavorful, and the fish was especially delicious. They also offer lean beef options, which is a healthier choice. Cons: The squid ink balls were a bit too hard, and the bamboo slices were overly fibrous. Service toward the end of the meal felt rushed -- when the server brought out the ice cream, she immediately started clearing the table and repeatedly asked us to pass utensils and plates to her. By the time she finished cleaning up, our ice cream was already half melted.
