Arriving- Teeny tiny Frostproof is a straight shot, about 5 miles, off US Route 27. You end up on Main Street where these guys are located. Free street parking and more free parking around the side. Ambience- A beautiful remodel with lots of wood. A long straight bar with comfortable stools with backs. A just the right height, tiled foot railing makes for a comfortable bar experience. Behind the bar is mounted a long line of huge TVs for your viewing pleasure. It's an awesome place to watch a game! See my picture. Of course there are also tables, booths, and even pool tables. TouchTunes & Wi-Fi- I recommend the App for using the juke box. In this part of Florida, you can expect a lot of classic rock and country. You need a password for the Wi-Fi and its typical retail speed. Adult Libations- Full bar plus 12 taps. I enjoyed a Space Dust IPA. It was 8.2% APV, ice cold and delicious. Customer Service- Five stars! I enjoyed a great bartender/server that was friendly and efficient. Food- American bar & casual food. Lots of fried food and a great variety of sandwiches. I went with the iconic Slaw Burger & Fries along with my IPA and it was $18 pre-tip. It came out quickly, piping hot and with unique plating. Juicy and savory with the added snap of the slaw. Add nicely cooked fries and it was a superior lunch. Conclusion- If you are traveling through Highlands County, divert here for a great lunch or dinner. - OMG, the lunch buffet is back! -…read more I was munching pizza and quaffing pitchers of beer at Pizza Huts back in the 70s! Yes, I'm a Yelp old fart! Over the years, hundreds of sit-down locations were phased out along with the buffets! They just brought back the buffet here and the nostalgia bug bit me so off I went. Arriving- It's on US Route 27 North with its own private parking lot so simple access. The outside of the building looks like every other sit-down Hut except the color scheme is slightly different. Ambience- This location recently had a complete remodel which maybe is related to the buffet coming back. It's bright & airy and the tables are not crowded. I was very comfortable. Adult Libations- Back in the day most Huts had a beer & wine license. This one is dry. That's a bit of a surprise because B&W licenses in this part of FL are cheap and relatively easy to obtain. Go figure! Customer Service- The buffet begins at 11:00 am and my ticket says I arrived at 11:06. The place was already 50% full and people were streaming in. When I left there was a very short wait. Despite the activity, my service was in a word, spectacular! My server was friendly and very efficient. My plates were whisked away like magic and with a smile. Checkout took seconds. Six stars! Buffet- It hasn't changed much over the decades. I built a salad with a base of lettuce and added cucumber, mushrooms, onions, chopped egg, peppers, cheese and topped it with ranch dressing. Everything was fresh and kept cool. I added a warm bread stick, and it was a fine beginning. Next came multiple slices of pizza, mostly thin crust, and a heap of penne with red sauce. Rince & repeat. Back in the day, many Hut buffets offered a desert pizza. That was missing here but there were cinnamon breadsticks. The buffet + soft drink + tax = $17.07 and I was stuffed. Add a tip and it was a $20 lunch. Not a surprise post-pandemic. Conclusion- You need to manage your expectations when you eat at an inexpensive casual buffet. I noted that a very popular Chinese buffet nearby was about the same price. In Yelp terms, 3 stars = OK and 4 = Good. This experience was somewhere in the middle. The customer service was so excellent I'm going with 4!
