I've been coming to Hunky's on Cedar Springs for over 15 years now, and I hope the owner takes the time to read this. I write this, not to say how bad the business is, but to say how much I want ownership to show Hunky's the love I think it deserves. The food continues to be very good, as does the staff. That said, the state of the restaurant has been in a state of complete disrepair for many years. Booths are falling apart, walls and windows are disgusting to look at, the floors are so dirty and gross that the chairs stick to them when you try to move them. Tables are also falling apart. It looks like no one cares about the state of the restaurant. If business was hard to come by I could understand this lack of upkeep, but there is a constant line out the door and the prices of the food continue to be raised to the point that it's hard to feel good about spending $15-$20 for a burger and fries. Ownership has GOT to put some love back into their business, because it's getting more and more difficult to watch this once wonderful restaurant continue to decline to the point it's at now. read more

If you are looking for a good traditional burger joint, this is the place for you. They have nice outdoor seating area, which is a plus during this COVID era. We ordered mushroom swiss burger, which was their daily special menu when we went, and Texas cheeseburger. They both were delicious! Fries and sweet potato fries were all very yummy. Hunky's is my go to burger and hotdog place in Dallas. The food is always fresh and the orders are perfect each and every time. Their cakes are to die for especially the strawberry cake which is definitely tops in DFW. I usually order two slices for myself. I'm still not sure why they don't have cakes as an option on Doordash because my family would literally order cake from here multiple times a week. Very disappointing and mundane burger. When you call something the Texas Cheeseburger, that thing better be a honkin' cow fresh from the backyard. Unfortunately, this burger was overcooked and flavorless. C'mon man, you guys even season these things? This was really one of those "I could have made this better at home" moments. And whose mans is this talking about how they are using thick cut bacon? You must be used to Wendy's bacon or something, because this bacon was Tara Reid thin. Same deal with the fries too, soggy and flavorless. I hope that Hunky's is wishing for a Martha Stewart seasoning set for holidays, because they really need it. Do yourself a favor and order the onion rings and if they have it on special when you go, the Mexican hotdog. The food was phenomenal! There are a lot of higher-end places along this street, so it was great to fine a place to eat that could provide a big enough menu of standard American food that's acceptable to kids and not above their taste or your budget. Only giving 4/5 stars because the bathroom could use some renovation. It's an old building. read more

The Interior = Retro diner The Service = Super friendly and fun staff The Food = Very good Mushroom Swiss = Delicious Bacon cheddar = Delicious again Say cheese cheeseburger = Also delicious Veggie burger = Good flavor. Hunky's was an impromptu dinner spot that my best friend and I stumbled on and BOY were we both happy we did. The lines weren't too long when we got there, but as SOON as we sat down, everybody and their momma followed suit. OMP (On My Plate) I ordered the Double Meat Cheeseburger with Grilled Onions & Onion Rings. Not sure why I went with this big 'ole burger (maybe because I eat with my eyes), but it was ridiculously good. From the veggies being nice and fresh, the meat being seasoned well & cooked evenly, to the hot buttery buns-- everything was UH-MAZING! The onion rings were a great addition! Coming back, Aimes!? DUH! The atmosphere was welcoming and the food was great! I didn't get to try any of their desserts, but I'm sure they would be just as good! Hunky's is by far the best place for gourmet burgers and I never get tired of coming here. Thankfully, it's right down the street from my apartment which makes it super convenient. The spot is right on Cedar Springs which is known to be quite popular with its bars and night life so parking can be an issue if you come after 5. That said, we had to issue as my visit was at 1p on a Saturday.    Ordering is quick and easy, there's typically one cashier who takes your order and process payments as such. I had the delight of ordering the "Alberto's Red Hot Chicken Breast" which is essentially a fried chicken sandwich with hot sauce with pepper jack cheese and standard garnishes. I partnered that with fried Tater Tots and an ice cold Michelob Ultra beer. Modifications wise, I asked to skip on the standard Jack cheese but instead, substituted with melted Swiss which made it way better. The sandwich came out perfectly prepared as the chicken breast was fully cooked and had a nice crispy outside texture. The sauce although hot, which was to my liking didn't drown out the flavor of the buttered bun.   Price wise, my bill came out below $20.00 but mind you, I had two beers and one side. Service was quick and friendly and atmosphere was ultra clean. We tried sitting outside on the nicely decorated patio but was too chilly. Looking forward to coming back and hopefully, enjoy my sandwich and beer on the patio! read more

Not a very good burger. My sis and I came here one evening after work and I really wanted a juicy burger that would hit the spot and this was not it. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with the works, and me and my sis shared cheese sticks and tator tots. The cheese sticks were ok, from a frozen bag and fried, tator tots were ok as well, nothing special. The burger though was one of the driest and most unseasoned burgers I've had in a long time. I could tell it was a frozen patty which is fine I guess but it was cooked to death, not even the bacon, cheese and veggies help with the taste.
