A most delightful corner joint with an eclectic assortment of wall hangings, fresh seafood case and yummy menu. Stopped in for a appetizer and drink. Was a fun experience. Was a small, eclectic, little place. Some outdoor seating and about 4 tables and chairs indoors in an outside patio area. Service was very friendly. The food came out quick but the drink order took a while. The drink.... a delicious hurricane was well worth the wait! We had 3 small oyster they were very good and were fresh. A bowl of chowder that was tasty. It's not a thick chowder but a brother chowder. Also had the crab and shrimp dip served with crusty toast. The dip was cheesy, hot and full of fresh, real crab. Reviews seem to be a bit all over for this place but we had a good time. The appetizers were fresh and yummy. The drink was super good.... could have drank 1, 2 or 3 more... lol! I think it's a great choice for a quick bite and delicious drinks! read more

Decided to give this place a go just for their wild Bloody Mary. Usually not a fan of the over the top but I was hungry and wanted booze haha. The staff was Suomi friendly and attentive. The Bloody Mary was huge! Came with crab, sausage, fried shrimp, frog legs, hard boiled egg, cheese, olives, fried oysters, wings, fried fish. Honestly it all tasted way better than I thought. Especially the fried fish, it was flavorful with a nice fried batter. Frog leg was delicious. I asked for a side a butter and the young lady brought me a nice little bowl. If you want something odd and amusing, then I can say (so far) that I didn't die. It's just not very professional for the prices they charge. And when eating seafood, cleanliness is kind of a huge deal. The Hurricane chowder had a clump of added seafood in the middle, but the chowder itself was just bacon (?) and potatoes in cream sauce. Nothing to brag about. I'm a local who has driven past several times. There are MUCH better options closer to home across the bridge in WA. read more

A great casual seafood restaurant with Tiki Bar vibe! Every time we go to Astoria, we have to visit for the seafood chowder, crab cocktails and razor clams. The proprietor is a hoot/kind of Surfer Boy and his wife delightful and always checks on patrons making sure our meals are good. Cocktails are fun with good tropical offerings. Mai Tai actually rivaled Trader Vic's! Well done. I've purchased seafood from their seafood counter and it's been good as well. A lovely place to sit outside when weather permits too. read more

On an exciting road trip to finally check out Astoria and some amazing places to eat only to find out the town is basically closed on Sunday's. With no options after the long drive we decided to try this place. With questionable reviews we were hopping since they had bad reviews they would have fixed up and improved. BOY were we so wrong. The live seafood was just sitting out on a table in the middle of the restaurant. Due to covid we choose to sit on the patio which we found as we were eating was leaking and the staff would just put buckets out. The waiter didn't know what was on the menu and had crusty food all over him. Ok so this should have been our sign to leave anything would have been better, but in the spirit of supporting a local place during covid we ordered. 1) lobster seafood platter which was supposed to be chilled on lettuce as seen in the picture, however it was watered down as if it was frozen and thawed out too long sitting in the water 2) as recommended by the waiter the best on the menu is the lightly breaded and fried razor clams. This was just balls of oil as the breading was coated and the razor clams were over cooked so they were so chewy. 3) a 2lbs bowl of steamers that was supposed to be enough for four was nothing but a bowl of sand every single clam was filled with sand. The entire bowl had gray sandy water. This was disgusting. When we brought up this to the waiter he said let me see. He picked up the spoon and some clams and said ohh this is much better then normally. WTF! He continued to say well we try but sand comes in them. This was appalling. 4) seafood cioppiono. The description said: SPICY tomato based savory seafood soup--loaded with crab, lobster, steamer clams, razor clams, prawns, shrimp, scallops, squid and catch-of-the-day white fish served with garlic bread. HOWEVER: this was one crab claw and a few clams and 2 prawns. Not even close to being worth $30. 5) what we were drawn to was the Bloody Mary displayed with the menu outside and we were car fished as all we got was a glass of tomato juice and a splash of possible alcohol and a small pickle. When we asked where the cocktail shrimp and other toppings in the image the waitress said ohh yeah sorry we are out. Well that would have been nice to know before ordering. Besides the awful food, staff that could care less the so called patio is also a storage unit and the entrance for shipping so every-time a staff member wanted to go on break or orders came in they would open the hidden patio door and smack it against my chair. We moved our table over to give them more room and to stop the door and staff from hitting our chair and yet they still did swinging the door wider. Overall I would never suggest this establishment to anyone even if you get stuck on a sun with nothing else open. No compensation on the bill for all the issues or any apologies from the staff. I ordered the Hurricane Chowder. 20 oz of great clam chowder with some prawns, crab and shrimp on the top. Have leftovers. Husband ordered grilled salmon with French fries and a beautiful salad. My chowder also came with two pieces of sourdough toast. So delicious. Interesting atmosphere as well. On the walls were mounted heads of water buffalo, elk, deer, swordfish etc. I want to go back. We always stop at Hurricane Ron's when in Astoria because they have the best prices on crab and it is a fun place to have a drink This week we stayed a couple of nights in Astoria and chose to eat here .The Best and the biggest Crab louie salad I have ever seen . It had lettuce and tomatoes and olives and hard boiled eggs and asparagus and cucumbers and broccoli and cauliflower and artichoke hearts and a ton of crab This would have fed easily two people. My husband had the halibut and chips and that dish was also outrageously yummy . The staff is beyond friendly and fun Treat yourself to an amazing fresh fish adventure and go to Ron's. If you're gonna adorn your restaurant with "Native American" iconography at least make Indigenous food fucking right. Also who the hell freezes oysters and LIES about it? The place reminds me of a McMenamins with the decor inside. You don't get bored looking around. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was great and not that expensive considering todays prices. One of the few places you get local, fresh , razor clams, cooked excellently. In fact , all of our food was superlative. One negative is the seating. We had a group of nine and , fortunately, managed to occupy an entire corner. That much and more can be seated in their patio but it was closed due to clam cleaning at the time. Quaint and nice. If you're a group of four , no problem. They could use a larger place and more staff but that's the breaks. It'll be a on our list of "go to" places whenever we're there. read more

We were visiting from Seattle and Hurricane Ron's was recommended for seafood and local flavor. It is the kind of place that is not for everyone. But for the ones who like an eclectic, very local, owner-operated restaurant with personality galore, it is as good as it gets! Why is it not for everyone? It is truly unlike any place I've ever been. It is serving 3 customers: the main part has a seafood market counter, with amazing, high % local and fresh caught seafood items, to purchase to cook at home. And this part has a few tables where they also serve a very eclectic menu with a lot of personality. The menu and market counter include options for exotic meats (kangaroo, alligator, frog legs). For some, this may be out of their comfort zone. The 3rd part is a bar that is separate from the restaurant. The walls are busy with taxidermy, fossils, and fishing gear and very busy. There is a terrarium off on a side counter with 2 well-loved lizards. In our party of 4 we had one person who's dining style is more comfortable with traditional elements (my beautiful wife). She initially was a little overwhelmed by the decor and lizards and less conventional dining space. But, she was not so put off that she wasn't willing to try something outside her comfort zone. We sat at one of the few tables where you can dine in the restaurant/market section. The menu is eclectic. It has fried fish and shellfish that is nearly all fresh caught (not frozen) very locally sourced. The service was so great, as our server helped us develop a family style approach to our order. It was anchored by a captains platter of fried seafood that also had Dungeness crab and a cup of chowder. The fried items were fantastic, and when we were there included Sturgeon, Spring Chinook, Albacore, Rockfish, Cod, Razor Clams, and oysters -- what a range to expand your idea of fish and chips beyond typical cod. Plus we added an order of halibut and chips for our less adventurous guest in our party. And we added additional chowder so each of the 4 of us had a cup. The clam chowder was truly the best I've ever had. The bacon in it was so flavorful (or was it smoked ham?), and I believe the clams were from fresh (as opposed to typical canned and often minced). I want to call them to see if they can ship me a quart to my home.. For the 3 of us, it was one of the best meals and experiences we could ever have dreamed. And loved all of the different fried seafood and local flavor, Something so different and eclectic with so much owner-operator personality. And we brag about it and tell everyone we know they must go there when in Astoria. For our more traditional diner, she loved her halibut and chowder, had a great time catching up with our friends. read more

Came to this place and thought the food was good. I ordered their blackened salmon and a clam chowder. The blackened salmon was a good portion and came with wedge fries and vegetables. They did forget about my clam chowder when I ate here, so I ended up asking for it to-go at the end of our meal. The clam chowder was my favorite part of the meal even after eating it later in the day. My fiancé got a tuna melt that was super cheesy and served as an open face sandwich. Second time eating here this trip to the c7 Q10oast. My friend is diabetic, so having the option of not having the seafood deep fried, but instead the options of sauted or grilled. Plus a great amount of side dishes to choose from. All the food was wonderful...we had clam chowder with homemade bread, Halibut, Salmon and Razor Clams. Last time I had the razor clams again...and my husband and friend had the captains platter sauted. Key Lime Pie and Peanutbutter Pie were both excellent too!! Looking for a great local fresh seafood place and Hurricane Ron's popped up. What a cool old school restaurant with a well stocked bar The chowder was excellent as was the fish. Our server was super friendly and talkative. She even introduced us to the owner. They had an extensive drink menu which looked promising, but I saw that they carry local brews by Hondo which is a true micro/ craft brewer in Astoria so I ordered his amber and was not disappointed bubbly and cold it hit the spot with the sturgeon. They close early so if you want late night fare you are out of luck, but if you want a super lunch or earlyish dinner you owe it to yourself to give them a try. They even have a special doggy menu for your best friend! We will return soon! read more

Walking around we saw the owner unloading fresh fish from his truck, curious, we decided to look. He was very pleasant and engaging and he even offered to hold up a fish for my kid to take a picture with. Then he recommended for us to go into the restaurant. We went in was sat in the back area that was enclosed but also had a nice breeze coming through. We ordered the razor clams, the crab dip and the clam chowder. The chowder was amazing! Kids polished of the bowl. The waitress came by and told us that they were out of razor clams and we were disappointed, however, another owner happen to walk by and said he had some in the truck as he was still unloading his catch. He then went out to grab it and gave it to the waitress. Therefore, we got our razor clams. The razor clams very fresh and delicious and not at all chewy. The crab dip with the bread was yummy and hot too. Great service and food is delicious. Shout out to the owners for being super awesome and nice. Next up... to try their crab melt. read more

Decided to give Hurricane Ron's another try. About the fourth try I believe but since the first three were during Covid I thought hey maybe the place has improved. I was wrong. Sat at a high top in the grungy bar area that still boast the framing around what was their plexy glass enclosed bar. Ordered a drink that the menu said was served martini style. It came in a 6 oz tumbler. Husband ordered what he said is the worse Mai Tai he's ever had. My drink itself was ok but mostly too much liquid in general so it sat undrank. Food. We ordered a sturgeon skewer. To be fair we knew this was one piece of fried fish on a stick for 8.50 but the piece of fish was less than 5" long. We were flabbergasted. It tasted ok but seemed pricey. Same for the crab melt. This too was expensive. I think $18 or $22 I can't recall exactly. It was a 5" long heel of French bread with some crab (doubtful the 6 oz they claim) with a combination of melted cheeses. It was served it fries. This was a decent thing to eat just barely enough for one person and we were sharing things. I saved the worst for last. Steamer clams. These were over cooked, half the shells were empty and there was scant enough of the flavorless broth for all the shells. Worst part though is that there was sand in almost every single bite. Clearly we did not finish these. They were served with a bay shrimp Louie salad that had some bay shrimp that were so old and stinky I was afraid to eat them. We left much of that where it sat as well. If I were our server I would've taken one look at the bowl of steamers and took them right back to the kitchen. Our server was also tending the bar. She was no nonsense which I don't mind but when she asked us how everything was and we clearly gave her a lead in to offer to make it right but instead she just cleared the table and left a bill. Well that pretty much summed up the whole experience. We won't be giving this place a fifth chance. Sorry HR's hopefully you can do something productive with this feedback. read more
