I can't speak to the quality of the food, but I can speak to the lax service, and how one gets treated if Ron doesn't agree with you. My husband and I come up from the SF bay area to Astoria every year because we love the beauty, the vibe, and to buy a ton of Fort George IPA, to bring home. Having missed a year because of the pandemic, we were so excited to make our trek again. On this day, it seemed that no restaurant was serving food to go, only sit down meals. The mixed information we got was staff shortages due to an actual outbreak or to a possible protest regarding requiring vaccinations. This made us nervous. I had my heart set on fish and chips and my husband is vegan. We were incredibly happy to find out that Hurricane Ron's would sell us fish and chips to go (for an extra fee). And my husband settled on a simple salad and a side of fries. After paying $35, AND leaving a $5 cash tip (because we value those who are working during the pandemic), we said we'd wait outside for our food and we were told they'd find us. First of all, at least 3 persons, servers and cooks, had no masks on. In addition, at least 2 wore them below their nose. Even though we didn't feel very safe, we were determined to follow though with the order. After 35 minutes of waiting outside, I went in to ask about our order. There seemed to be some confusion and looking around. I saw a lone bag on a back counter and the waitress finally handed it to me. I looked inside and there was only two boxes. Before someone challenges my restaurant experience, as was done in a previous review, I graduated with a degree in hotel and restaurant management. And I've worked in various capacities of restaurants, from managing them to cleaning toilets. So when I saw only two boxes in the bag, either that wasn't my order, or they packaged the french fries with the salad which would have made both unappetizing. Upon checking, I found that the salad for my vegan husband had shrimp on it and there were no fries. I told the counter person. She asked me what I wanted to do. I was honestly unsure. Here we were in a town that would not serve take-out, that possibly was having an "outbreak", it was about an hour after our hunger set in, and we were feeling very uneasy about their adherence to Covid safety requirements. Do we wait another 30 mins for a new order or cut and run? I explained this to the waitress. I told her it was very uncomfortable waiting for an order in a restaurant that was out of compliance with state law. So I asked for my money back. The waitress asked me who was unmasked. That was odd since the unmasked staff was clearly walking around and working in the kitchen. I pointed out 3 people, including, I think, Ron, whose mask was below his nose. She got Ron, I guess to get my refund. She told him I wanted it because people were unmasked. THAT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL REASON! It was because we'd have to wait who knows how long for another order. And yes, why expose ourselves longer than we have to. Anyway, that's when the s#$t hit the fan. I was told to get the f*&k out, to go home, that I shouldn't be out, and that he would call the police. He went to the back room and yelled at his staff to put their f$%king masks on. A lady came out to address me and she didn't have a mask on so I stepped back. Ron yelled at her, "Oh, you're in big trouble because you don't have a mask". She left and came back with a mask and apologized for my experience. (Thank you, who ever you are.) All the while the poor waitress is trying to find my ticket to refund my money. After some more verbal abuse by Ron, to customers, who were originally were grateful that his place was there, we were given cash and told to leave. I get that things are hard right now. I even said to Ron, that in light of all the challenges we're having, his meanness didn't help. He must be stressed beyond belief. But don't take it out on customers or staff. We will not be back to Hurricane Ron's no matter how much I'm craving fish and chip. Be well everyone, and treat each other kindly. read more

We stopped by after having had an excellent experience, on our last visit to the area in April of this year. The staff we encountered were friendly. The service was excellent. All staff we saw were approximately masked. However, upon departing, we could not reconcile the hit to our wallet, in consideration of a rather underwhelming meal. Perhaps it was a bad day in the kitchen. However, we have certainly found establishments in the area with better quality seafood / at a much lower cost. I say this, as we intentionally returned following our visit earlier in the year. I ordered the salmon fish and chips (as I had done on my previous visit). Two of the salmon fillets had a slimy/fishy taste of film. The 2-3 other fish fillets were quite good. The chips were way too greasy and salty. While the service we encountered was very good. We are unlikely to return, knowing there are other local options with both better quality food - at a lower cost. My advice: ask a local where they pay cast for fish and chips during the day. read more

I love dive bars, and this is a great one. If you like a casual environment with friendly locals and outstanding fresh seafood, this is the place to go. One of the owners does all the cooking. My wife and I had razor clams. They were harvested the night before, and they were seasoned and cooked perfectly. They came with excellent crispy fries, good cole slaw, and a pickled asparagus spear. The friendly bartender suggested a very good local amber beer, which I enjoyed, but this place has the best hard liquor selection I've ever seen. Overall poor service, mediocre food and pricey. Not a great experience and even worse because it wasn't cheap! I ordered 2lbs steamer, 3 oysters and a club soda $29 Oysters were the smallest I've ever been served, like the halved olive in the mini salad was bigger! (See pic! I ate the dwarf oyster but you can see the shell size was even dinky) Broth for the clams was just salty fish broth. Nothing to brag about at all. Service was slow... didn't have a drink brought out at all like the table beside me. I had to go in after 10 minutes without. Bartender served me a flat club soda, i returned it, she exchanged it for a tonic, I asked for a club soda and then told me they don't have club soda. With each order correction I had to get up and go inside each time. I asked for a refund on the drink and the server had to " go talk to the owner " haha About what? You don't have what I wanted. Keep in mind this is a bartender serving up the beverage. I hope she knows vodka from gin or a virgin drink from alcoholic. "Actually you do have to ask the owner about any refunds or your til would be short. Maybe you're unaware of such things since clearly you've never worked retail positions. Second- we aren't a table side service restaurant. We provide you with food, utensils, your beverage and condiments but other than that we dont make rounds to tables for anything. There is only one cook, one bartender, one cashier/waitress, and that is it. Maybe with your entitled attitude you could find somewhere else to accommodate you since clearly nothing could satisfy you. You complained about EVERYTHING. Also it wasn't a slow day but then again as I said, you clearly dont know anything about the food industry or what it's like to be short staffed or to be dealing with a customer like you on your first day of training. Also next time maybe dont order a club soda from the bar." My response to follow , and then folks, I'm done, I have better things to do and maybe this will give you some insight on the type of customer service there. I replied: "Thanks for the feedback Natalie. A couple of clarifications, I complained about two things ... one being the super small portion of the oysters and wrong drink order being served. Can you share with me the other verbal complaints I made that day? I ordered from the bar because there were signs suggesting to do so. Is ordering a beverage from a bar not common practice? I have worked retail my friend, I have worked as a server, and as bartender, operated a catering business, managed large scale food production services and have been in customer service for well over 15 years. When a customer brings up a complaint/concern about their food order or drink order... I fix it, I fix it right, and I fix it quick... with a smile. When I brought up my concern you appeared defensive and annoyed that I even said anything. When i tried to get the right drink from you, in a pleasant way, you still gave off the impression it was a hassle. The attitude you gave me the day you served me, and are displaying right now is only further proof of my bad experience. Unfortunatetly, this content is now available or your customers/future customers to see. You did not want to help then and nor do you want to help now. The waitress was nice, but clearly overwhelmed. My shrimp cocktail was inedible. The bay shrimp was so mushy, I was worried about food poisoning. I returned it to the kitchen but was charged for it anyway. We would have asked for it to be removed from our bill but we had waited 40 minutes for our lackluster food and 30 minutes for our bill after we were done eating. This is a short review on the razor clam on a stick. We came in to try one because we had never had a razor clam and had debated on whether to get the license necessary to go dig them up. It was our first time being in Oregon. It was fried up quickly. I expected it to be chewy and sweet due to all the reviews on Yelp and from other people I had spoken to about this type of clam. Great local place for some fresh seafood! The staff is very friendly and helped up decide just what to order. We shared the Halibut Fish & Chips which was amazing. The batter wasn't too heavy, with great flavor. The Halibut fell apart and melted in your mouth, not too dry or overlooked. Also snagged some smoked Salmon on a stick, which we had never had before. Only ever had grilled salmon, so surprised when it was cold but great smoked flavor. Very down to earth and casual environment. Will definitely be back! read more

The waitress (Ron's wife) talked my wife into having a cup of chowder when I ordered one. We were so happy she did. The chowder didn't look great in the photos or in person, but it's all about flavor and quality isn't it? Delicious and full of clams not all potato. My Halibut and chips was absolutely excellent, even the coleslaw was perfect. Tasted and smelled really fresh and perfect batter. The Combo Crab & Shrimp Louis was also excellent. LOTS of good stuff and not all salad. Place is suitably funky, no chrome and plexiglass in sight. Outdoor seating looked inviting, but we sat inside. Ron came out to meet us and he was a fun guy! So far we love this new place. Drove in a couple weekends ago and saw the sturgeon fish and chips sign and as soon as we checked into our hotel we had to go back and try it out. That evening was quiet and the staff was so welcoming and friendly. We were greeted by a nice lady and decided to go sit in the bar for our first drink then we moved to the little dining area and had the fish and chips and a crab melt. Everything was great and the fish and chips were not greasy and batter not too heavy. Two of my least favorite things about this dish if done wrong. We came back Sunday on the way out of town because my parental units wanted fish and chips for dinner. Tried some of the other fish. Rockfish was ok but the Tuna was the better choice. My only complaints about this place would be that I wish they had a grilled or nonfried fish option. With fresh fish I usually prefer it not fried so I can taste the fish. Other thing is I think the fresh fish prices were good but the packages were over a pound and more than I needed. I got a bunch of ling cod anyway and it was delicious but would have preferred to just get a pound. We will be back next time we are in town. read more

The best thing about our visit was definitely the drinks the house hurricane was wonderful. They allow dogs at the bar and a persons dog was barking loudly throughout the stay. A server came up with food that wasn't ours. Qe were informed at 1:30 that the kitchen closes soon. Google said they close at 6 on Sunday, yelp says they're closed , there's no website that i can find to tell me when they actually close. Only seating was at the bar but thats not their fault. He accused me of being racist against Asians in google reviews. Funny enough, I'm Asian. Poor ambiance to say the least. If you want to eat better seafood, go visit McDonald's and order a Fillet O Fish. There was a sign when I walked in that said No Crabby Attitudes That Should have been the first indication of what was to come. When shrimp cocktail arrived It was more crudité then cocktail and they were the tiniest shrimp I've ever seen in my life. If you want A shrimp cocktail made with frozen salad shrimp and cocktail sauce from a grocery store this is your kinda place! Hidden gem. Looks like a dive but boy was the seafood good. The house salad has heaps of shrimp on top, artichoke, olives and lots of nice veggies. We had the tuna melt with fresh tuna, the salmon sandwich was delicious with fresh salmon. Had the crab mushrooms, also yummy. I'm so glad we stumbled on this place. We were originally looking for a brew pub but it seems several of those had a limited menu- this was a fantastic choice. You can't go wrong. Stopped by Huricane Rons tonight and was rewarded with great clam chowder, cocktails and a warm atmosphere. The bartender was beautiful, kind and attentive and the owners took time to share their stories and listen to ours And even helped us find a great place to stay at a wonderful local hotel The Cannery Pier. It looks like I'm in the minority, but this place is damn good. We first went to Northwest Wild Products at the fishing docks and realized they closed the location last week. They only have one location now. Had manila clams, hurricane platter (assorted fried seafood: razor clams, oysters, cod, sturgeon, and fries), grilled sturgeon, and cioppino. They were all excellent. Fresh seafood. Perfectly fried. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. It set us back $140. The staff is really nice and helpful. I wouldn't recommend a large party. 2-4 parties are perfect. Also, go when they first open, or off peak hours. Still the best seafood in Astoria!!! read more

The best local fresh fish! I am a big clam chowder fan and this is the best clam chowder I've ever had! The freshest crab possible with a live tank. Immediately the server Elisa made me feel right at home and catered to my every need.
