Some over the top great dishes, some good dishes, zero bad dishes. Pretty good service, nothing wrong with it, but, since Husk is heralded for local local local ingredients, I would have loved to hear about that. Something more than the description on the menu would be nice. Upon entering there is a large board which lists all the local sources, but I think it would be great if the servers (who at 17-20% of a very pricey meal) were more knowledgeable about the ingredients. Who doesn't have high expectations for Husk. I did. I cannot say that does not affect giving them 4 stars instead of 5. My opinion is based upon reputation and, I must add, value. Was it worth $450 for 4 people? Meh... it's not like many other establishments where I think "oh I can't wait to go back!" I kinda feel like, ok, been there, off to the next great food adventure. Don't get me wrong. Our food was very good. First: BBQ Pork Ribs-full of scrumptious flavor. Tender, fall-off-the-bone pork. Really great. Grilled Sweet Corn Salad was exceptional. A true stand out. The whipped ricotta and Brie was something I'll probably never forget. Marinated Beets and Blackberries, Plum, Duck Prosciutto, Farro was also very fresh and tasty. Nice earthy flavor from the grain mixed with freshness of the beets and fruit. Supper: Sour Corn Battered Catfish, rice, Fish Stew w/ Okra. The stew was over-the-top great. My husband was pleased with the fish. I thought it was bland. Snapper, Butternut Squash, Chanterelles, Golden Beet, Corn, Orange. Our daughter loved this. Again, I thought the fish lacked adequate flavor. Chicken, Heirloom Sweet Peppers, Charred Eggplant, Pickled Plum, Potato, Pecan Marmalade. Really? I don't remember any marmalade. The chicken was juicy perfection. Loved the plums, as well. The potatoes seemed a bit mushy. The eggplant was so-so. The winner was the pork dinner. The seasoning of absolutely every ingredient was spot on. It was so great we were mopping up the sauce with our bread. The tomatoes in the dish were...OhMG.... they were so full of flavor. Pickled fennel... WOW. Desserts: Funnel Cake with berries and whipped cream. Personally, I prefer softer funnel cakes. Two of us enjoyed the crunch. Two of us, not. Very good fresh berries. Good whipped cream. Winner, Peach Profiterole w/ Peach Sherbet, Honey Marscapone. Sherbet was fantastic, profiterole was huge, marscapone superb. We decided to go spend an impromptu evening downtown after work. It's always nice to be a tourist in your own city. We stopped in on the chance we would get a walk-up reservation. We did and had an hour to kill so we went next door to Bar Husk which we would give 5 stars. Back to the restaurant. We decided to do 4 of the firsts since they all sounded inventive and interesting. We chose the Oysters, which I would give a 4. They were tasty and fresh just a little too oily for me. Chicken skins were good, not what I had expected. I would give them a 4 for me. The ham and biscuits were a 5. I seriously could eat that whole dish without sharing. The gnocchi weren't my favorite but it may be that I make them at home and I lived in Italy. The wait staff were 5 Stars. based on how they knew to stagger our firsts (apps) they were all attentive and patient. We can't wait to go back to try the pig ears and maybe one of their unique entree's. read more

We had heard great things about Husk but were very disappointed. Our server did not seem like he wanted to be there. I asked if I could have the steak without the fingerling potatoes & he said it was all made together. I asked if they could just add a little more zucchini and he was just baffled & said it would be too hard. He convinced me to get the corn breaded fish so I got it but it had a weird taste. My daughter had the duck and it was very good. I've been coming to Charleston for over 40 years and have never had a bad meal so I guess it was time :) read more

Drinks at bar were really good, reasonable price and made wait easier, there were so many empty tables. TN steak was prepared properly, the side with it was a salty medly of over cooked mix of butterbeans, spinach and potato, not more than one. The beet salad with goat cheese and strawberries was nice, but pricey. The soft shell crab appetizer was perfectly prepared, but still not sure what it came with. The cornbread is okay, the butter was some mix with some type of fat or lets just say some things should be just what they are, but then sometimes surprising blends are awesome, not this butter. Went to husk for lunch. Its pretty hard to get a reservation which is a good sign. Food was amazing! I had the standard shrimp and grits and I have to say it was far from standard! We went for coffee and even the french press coffee was perfect. I made my reservation months in advance. I was planning a "fried chicken cleanse" weekend in Charleston, where I'd wanted to eat as much fried chicken as possible, because, duh, I'm in Charleston. (I live in San Francisco.) Well, sadly, Husk does not have their fried chicken on the menu every day. So I had to "settle" for the fried chicken skins with pimento cheese "ranch" and scallions, the corn bread side, Carolina catfish with hominy and peas in a shrimp broth sauce, the hot chocolate hand-pie with bourbon-infused vanilla ice cream, and a cherry soda. Don't cry for me too hard, my meal was impeccable. I had a window seat with a beautiful view of the porch and my server, Tanya I think her name was, was incredibly knowledgeable and knew the answers to all my questions, including questions about their sister restaurant in Nashville. I came to the South because I wanted the best, and I got the best. Next time maybe I'll get the fried chicken, too. read more

My wife and I had the fried pigs ears lettuce wraps appetizer, the duck and the scallops. The pigs ear app was amazing. Tasted like bacon. The duck was also one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. This place is worth the wait if you didn't make reservations. We hit up the Bar at the husk and had some great drinks and apps prior. I recommend making reservations 5-6 weeks in advance if you are not into waiting. Hostess needs to take a shower! Pros Food was really good. I mean very good! Cons I had a confirmed reservation and they sat is 45 min late. No one apologized for wait, we were very patient however a little acknowledgement from management would have been nice, no southern hospitality at this place. Hostess was poorly groomed and made me really consider the sanitation of this establishment. (Dirty torn dress, unkept nails and a lil b.o.). After being sat at our table we waited close to 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a waiter, (industry standard is 30 sec). I am not kidding half of my party was furious and wanted to leave, I convinced them to stay for the food. Having already waited 45 minutes to be sat we were very hungry and thirsty. A waiter came by took our drinks and disappeared for another 10 minutes. The waiter returned with an incomplete beverage order and again we waited and waited and waited. I am not kidding service is terrible very slow and not hospitable. I have been in the fine dining restaurant industry for over 12 years and I've dined all over the country and world and I have seldom experienced anything similar to this experience. There are better restaurants to go to in Charleston with better hospitality. Funny thing is they appeared extremely over staffed with lots of waiters standing around admiring the plants growing. Cheers to Husk a place for great food with, with below acceptable service. Clearly they dropped the ball on our table. I would give them another chance if management understands running a restaurant is also about good hospitality tactics that brings people back, you cannot just rely on the food. Had we been acknowledged on our wait and offered an "amuse" (industry standard for waits on reservations if not already offered). I would have reconsidered this post. FYI our reso was party of 6 @ 1 pm March 6th or 7th. They sat us in an empty upstairs @ 1:45 pm. Did not get our first bite till 2:15 (bread). Husk has some of the best burgers in Charleston. If you don't want to wait because of the line around the corner stop in the Bar at Husk. It's right next door & has the same menu. Awesome drinks too. The upstairs is best part. It's similar to a quiet whiskey bar. read more

I'm giving Husk 3stars because it was our choice to try this place on the day of the eclipse and I'd like to believe that's what threw everything off and IN HIND SIGHT it was probably a bad decision to try this place out on the day of the total eclipse. Having said that, we were looking forward to trying this restaurant since we've heard so many good things about it. We were only in town for 36hrs and this was one of three places we were able to try. Needless to say, the staff were not focused (cooks running around with foil hats they made especially for the event. We ordered the Bibb salad which was very bland; the pig ears were good, nice and crunchy with a complimentary sauce drizzled over them. The shrimp & grits were a big disappointment since we were told this was a signature dish and it too was bland and lacked flavor. I heard about this restaurant in Anthony Bourdine Show "Parts unknown", I decided to give it a chance. The sooner reservation the restaurant had available for us was for the following month. After my visit to Husk, This was my experience: The food was average and overpriced. Lots of tourist dressed in shorts and flip flaps so don't worry about dress code it is the same as a tiki bar I believe The reason Husk is always booked is due to the cruise line business and others like me that saw the show on TV that make you believe this is a must go place to eat real southern food but in reality it is far from that. there are many other great restaurants in Charleston you can have great food for your money and better ambiance I will never go back to Husk, it is just a tourist's place! read more

My husband was super excited to visit Husk. We got there at 11:40am waited a little to get a table as walk-in, by the time we were leaving (a little after 1pm) they were not accepting any more people because of the popularity. We ordered and splitter the the pimento cheese on toast, shrimp and grits, and cheeseburger with steak frites. We were at 167 Raw the day before and I didn't get to see my husband's face because he was sitting next to me as opposed to across from me at Husk, but my goodness the happiness I saw when he bit into the pimento cheese on toast. Pimento cheese was light, not as creamy or greasy one would imagine cheese to be, and the toast had this wonderful crunch to it. Shrimp and Grits was so delicate, you can taste all the seasonal vegetables they used. The server warned us that Husk does their shrimp and grits in a non-traditional way, I guess a fancy version. The cheeseburger was excellent it had bacon bits grounded in with the meat! The frites reminded me of my husband's oven-fried potatoes. You think we had enough, wait for the dessert. I can't find the exact name on the website but it was a sparkling cider sorbet with poached peaches and assorted fruits with a raspberry like sauce or juice. It was fantastic!! holy shit husk was awesome. my mom got us thanksgiving day reservations. AHHH (also my birthday so like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) it was all so good. the space was super cool and gorgeous! the staff was really on their game (i felt bad bc of t'giving). i started with the whiskey, apple, & jalapeno cocktail! huzzah! because it was thanksgiving, it was prix fixe, which was fine with me (but i would love to go back and try stuff from just off the menu!) my three courses started with some sort of bao bbq pork belly tacoish thing. that was amazing. then i ordered the thanksgiving day plate that had regular turkey, turkey leg confit, gravy and a cornbread & foie gras stuffin' muffin'. i can't remember any of the dessert but we ordered one of each and they were all epic. i barely member an amazing bread pudding and a panna cotta which blew us all away. this place was really awesome. i wish i could have gone to the bar next door, but as you can imagine this meal put me into a four hour food coma where my parents just kept driving around the city, taking pictures at various places & cracking the window so i didn't suffocate in my tryptophan-induced slumber. read more

Another Husk visit and another great evening. Toughest part is to get reservations at what is really dinner time. A month in advance and we still could only get 5:45 on a Sunday evening. Again, there were no complaints from anyone on their meals but the real winners were: (1) the Grits side with mushrooms and cheese (again - this one is a regular order now), (2) the pre-meal bread with the sea salt crust, the flounder, not so much for the fish but the succotash with corn tomatoes and asparagus served with it was awesome, (3) the small plate chicken livers - OK with bacon, but jeez were they good and (4) the soft shell crabs which you should grab if they are on the menu. Wasn't crazy about the strawberry soup with crab - liked both parts, but not together. The wine list is good - but the terroir style takes a little to get used to - still we find a rhone grape blend from Washington that was both tasty and affordable. Until the next time! read more
