We walked quite a bit and decided to try this place. They have seating in two different buildings and outside as well. The building I was in was brick and it was very well maintained. I live in Durham and spent 10 plus years in the Charleston area years ago and went to visit some old friends. I ate there on 08/23. Out of all the reservations I made, I was looking forward to this one the most. The service and ambiance were great, the food was a different story. I had the scallop ravioli to start and it was very disappointing exspecially for the price, didint even finish it. Then I orddered the brisket, it was horrible. It was the end peice and had the texture of beef jerky, it was so dry. The potatoe salad that came with it was horrible too. I so wanted to like this place, but I will never go back. read more

We didn't see reservations online so we stopped in while walking in the area and they were able to give us one that evening. Service was impeccable. The food was not as amazing as I had hoped. My veggies with the chicken were too salty to eat but the chicken was amazingly moist and delicious. I tried the fish and that was really good as well. More hype than actual performance, Husk was a bit of a letdown imo. My last dinner in Charleston, I found myself at the original Husk. Farm to table 'elevated southern cuisine' was hard to resist. Yet, after each bite, I found myself wondering if things could be ever so slightly improved. Of what I sampled, I'd probably recommend the pork chop, although not quite a must-have. Service was on point. I never found myself waiting or wanting. Prices were 'elevated' for the quality provided, however, the portions were fair. I would not say no to trying Husk again, either at a future visit to Charleston or one of their other locations. However, I wouldn't make it a priority. read more

Ah yes, the "farm-to-table" movement. This was such the buzz during the 2010's (and maybe even earlier?). Cynics might say that it's just an excuse to jack up the price for everything. Now, is this the best place I've ever been to? No, but this was a very solid start to a Charleston trip. The enoki mushroom tempura with egg custard and mushroom broth. While I normally would not order this starter at a non-Asian restaurant, this was a pretty good offering. With mushrooms, you get a lot of savory notes, and this was no exception. The crispy mushrooms contrasted with the flavorful broth well. While I like egg and the egg custard provided a little more added dimension, it wasn't entirely necessary. The wreckfish was nicely seared, while being tender inside. It's a more neutral whitefish, so it didn't have a flavor that necessarily stood out, but it was clean. The winter squash and mushrooms gave the dish a more hearty but not overwhelming accompaniment. The fried apple pie a little take from what I'd normally get. Someone might say it's just a McDonald's apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top, but this one is much flaky and had a robust apple-y filling. The apples kept their structural integrity, which is a good thing, as apple filling that disintegrates isn't quite as good. The service was rather strong, as I had a lot of staff serve my dishes and I got a lot of attention during the visit. The decor is lovely and I enjoyed sitting on the covered outside deck. The restaurant had some classy Christmas decorations, which gave it an even warmer feel. read more

Everything was so delicious. This was our favorite meal of our 5 day vacation. We're so happy we decided to come on our last night in Charleston. The decor was cute and quaint. The staff was very helpful in deciding what we were going to order and at explaining each of the dishes in detail. I ordered the oysters as app and scallops as main dish and both were bursting with flavor. I was pleasantly surprised. The scallops were the waiters favorite and I can see why. Husk was recommended to us by family that doesn't live in Charleston, but they always makes it a point to stop in when they visit. We absolutely enjoyed our meal here. Reservations were easy to get for a Sunday Brunch and the interior was beautiful. An older home converted to a dinning space but easy to walk and comfortable seating. We were very spaced out compared to other establishments who work with a similar concept. We loved every dish we ordered. The deviled eggs with the house made pickles were a blend of richness and spice that we were tempted to order more. Flavor is really what was most interesting about the dishes. The Short Rib wild Rice dish also had spice that was balanced by the egg and meat, a wonderful combination. The Shrimp and Grits were creamy and the greens were cooked to perfection. We had been here years ago when Sean Brock was the main chef and had the most delicious meal. I was pregnant with my youngest and wanted to come back with both kids this time. We wanted try some things that were on the menu last time but weren't able to. The food was very fresh and delicious. My favorite was the scallops and grits. Beautiful restaurant located in a historical home in downtown Charleston. Visited during restaurant week and the menu and food did not disappoint. Had a choice of Caesar salad or rabbit stew (selected the later and it was incredible. Tons of meat and rich flavor). Second course was a vegetarian pasta, fried catfish or pork belly. The pork was delicious served over kimchi and grits. Final dessert selection was lemon pie or bourbon ice cream. Both were good - the crust of the pie was a little hard- and the ice cream was just ice cream but was a great way to finish a lovely dinner. This restaurant is in an old historic mansion and is beautiful! They also have a bar next door. This was handy because we had some time to kill before out Table was ready. Service here was amazing. We had a large party of 8 and our server was able to keep everyone happy during our visit. I'll say that I'm a pescatarian who can't have lactose. There were not a ton of options in the main course section for me. I deducted one star for the food. E6 else in my party loved the food. This place deserves 10 stars, not 5!! Had a truly magical dinner at Husk while visiting the area. My partner and I shared everything, so started with the pork ribs that came with Alabama white sauce-WOW! The smell, taste, and texture were absolutely spot on. Moving to mains, we had the pasta of the day which included shrimp and rabbit- this was unlike any pasta dish I have ever tried; super creative and all the flavors complimented each other. We also had pastrami which melted in your mouth and came with perfectly crispy potatoes. Finally, we decided to try the side of grits which is not something I typically enjoy but these were amazing- well seasoned and creamy. Finally, we ended the meal with the expresso ice box cake which although had no ice cream almost ate like a creamy ice cream cake. It was another creative take with crunchy toffee in each bite. Our waitress only made an already fantastic experience better with her incredible service. The setting was beautiful and romantic with dim lighting and art scattered throughout. Husk delivers on ambience and service. This cute house style restaurant is stunning. I loved the vibe, and our server was attentive, fun and knowledgeable. Husk was my bday dinner and it would serve as a wonderful spot for special occasions. They gave me a custom printed menu which was such a special touch. We had the Aberdeen Ribeye, collard greens, a ricotta carrot dish, a bottle of red wine, the mint chocolate pie, and strawberry shortcake. What a delicious meal. Let me say, it was well executed and tasteful. The desserts stole the spotlight. No notes. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and a generous portion. The sauce served with it was too sweet for my southwestern taste, but it didn't ruin the dish. The glazed carrots were a brave combination of hot chili crisp honey, rainbow carrots, ricotta and peanuts. It blew me away! The greens had a strong smoke and vinegar flavor -- while good, they left me wanting for a simpler taste. Overall, well done, Husk. We tried this spot as part of a double dinner lineup. Here first, Vern's second. Glad we did do it in that order. Overall, we had a nice experience. Leslie our server was fantastic, calming, and just made for an easy breezy night. We even let her know our plans to have another stop that night and she carefully considered her recommendations and also made sure we had a great start to our evening. To be honest, my favorite BITE of the whole weekend was from Husk. Their tuna crudo blew me away. The flavor combo was dynamic and dynamite. Unlike any of the ones I've had that open lean heavy on acid citrus and let other flavors take a back seat. This was a balance of earth, creamy, spice, and some acid. Absolutely our fav of the weekend. The cornmeal oysters, were good, but pretty pedestrian. Didn't have enough seasoning highlights and was predictable. Our fish entree was overcooked and didn't flake too much. Yet, the sides of the squash and mushrooms I could have eaten on their own...and lots of them. Very good! Cocktails were tasty. For mains, my wife had the Wreckfish, which was light, buttery, and paired with some flavorful risotto. I went with the 48-hour Beef Short Rib, which was steak-tender. (I say steak-tender because our waiter mentioned it's not your typical fall-off-the-bone short rib. Their style is more like a perfectly cooked tender steak.) Service was awesome. Our server was chill, helpful with the menu, and kept the vibe relaxed. Overall, a perfect date night. If you're in Charleston and want a mix of charm, flavor, and solid Southern cooking, Husk is 100% worth it. Tip: Make your reservation for 5 PM. Why? The food was interesting, and I really enjoyed the chicken skin . It was perfectly made, and the grits were a nice touch, though they felt a bit heavy, and I couldn't finish them. The green sauce was surprisingly not spicy at all, but I requested it on the side, and it was executed just right. One thing to note: the bill was higher than expected, with an 11% tax and additional fees that aren't common in other cities. This app is seemingly simple and so satisfying. Great to share. Salty, savory, sour, sweet - perfection! -Heirloom Tomato & Peach Panzanella: get this. It is sooo good. The peaches and tomatoes were so ripe. I loved everything about this dish. -Roasted Chicken: this entree has potential, but I found it underwhelming. Loved the crispy chicken skin, but the actual meat was dry. I also felt this dish was undersalted. -GA Pork Chop: this too was underwhelming. Needed more sauce & seasoning. But I actually enjoyed this more than the chicken - it had more flavor and was fairly juicy. -Hearth Baked Skillet Cornbread: I personally did not enjoy. Bottom was slightly burnt. And the taste of the cornbread was a bit unusual (for me) and not something I enjoyed. -Dessert was some type of peach tart. Peaches were delicious, but the actual tart didn't seem cooked all the way. It overwhelmingly tasted like alcohol and it was goopy, so I assume it wasn't fully cooked. KenScale: 8.0/10 Visits: January 2025 Earlier this month, my wife Jun and I spent one weekend in Charleston visiting a couple friends we had known since our time in New York City. The weather in the area was surprisingly chilly, so we ended up mostly hanging out at our friends' house with their 7-year-old son and puppy. Of course, that doesn't mean we didn't check out any restaurants in a city well-known for its food scene. For a quick Sunday brunch, we took our chance at a walk-in table at the storied Husk, which had been one of the most influential trailblazers in modern Southern cuisine in Charleston and beyond (the restaurant also have locations in Nashville and Savannah). This was actually our second visit to the restaurant since 2021 (when we had visited our same friends). I remember having a pretty solid brunch then, and while we didn't have an opportunity to try as many dishes as we would've liked this time due to an early dinner that day, our brunch this time also left me quite satisfied. We were seated at the heated patio area away from the main dining room, so that might've been why our food came out so late. It was a relief, therefore, to get a bite out of deviled eggs and smoked trout roe to get the meal going. Of course, this being in Charleston we had to share some delicious buttermilk biscuits, accompanied by pepper jam. It's hard to mess up the classic Southern dish shrimp and grits, but I was quite fond of the one from Husk, with its creamy grits and crunchy shrimp just what you would need for a hearty brunch (and a hangover cure if you had a wild night). The best dish of the brunch was the short rib dirty rice accompanied by fried egg. Originated from the Creole cuisine in Louisiana, the dirty rice was addictively delicious, with the texture of soft short rib and chewy rice working so well together and chili crisp providing an unexpected spicy kick that I will think about again. Husk is still one of the most popular restaurants in Charleston, so if you are looking for a regular dining room seating, advance booking is highly recommended. There is full bar with classic brunch and regular cocktails and wines that would go along well with the Southern dishes from the restaurant. As I mentioned above, the delay in food was a slight mishap, but otherwise service was mostly fine. When you are visiting Charleston, Husk is the type of restaurant you would want to visit to explore its soulful Southern dishes. We haven't been to the restaurant for dinner yet, but as far as brunch is concerned, it's hard to beat the proposition of delicious food inside a charming spot in downtown historic Charleston. read more

Stunning building. Wonderful staff. Ambiance very good (lots of sound dampening on the ceiling to reduce the echo within the room, which was successful). Appetizers were good. I had the NC Oysters and they were extremely tasty. My wife had the chicken liver mousse, which was excellent (I had to try it) and a very generous portion. We both ordered the scallops, which is something we should not do in case something goes amiss. And, it did. Pretty small portion for the price in my estimation and would have been delicious if not for the surprise hot sauce. It's not on the menu as being hot nor spicy, so you only find out after the first bite. I thought it was pretty hot, but my wife can't eat spicy food and for her it was basically inedible. They did bring her some extra non-spiced grits to help, but the grits are a bit too smooth and a bit bland in both our estimations. The scallops themselves were truly excellent and perfectly cooked. The hot sauce really didn't add anything but heat and overpowered the carrots. I suspect the hot sauce is used to give grits some flavor that they might not otherwise have. A word of warning should be added to the menu, or voiced by the server. The wine list was adequate but pretty limited. I found that a bit surprising. What we had, however, was very good. OTOH, the pour was pretty small. Deserts were a bit of a disappointing lot with most of the items way too sweet. I tried the creme puffs, which were OK, but too much sugar in relation to the lemon curd. I suspect this will not make it to our list of places to return to, which is too bad. read more

OMG what an amazing meal. From the moment we got here to the time we left we had a great time. Service was impeccable and the food was some of the I've ever had. It's not often that I think every bite from the app to the entree is beyond delicious. This was one of those occasions. The pork belly dumplings were out of this world. I have never had rabbit before so I can't compare it to anything I've ever had, but wow what flavor it had. My wife had the blackened scallops and enjoyed them, but did say it had too much parsley on it. Our drinks were excellent as well. This is fine dining and what I believe I saw, was a restaurant not so much worried on flipping tables but worried about delivering a dining experience second to none other. The restaurant is broken up into several dining areas and I noticed sporadically tables would go unseated yet, on RESY there was no time slots available. I couldn't book a reservation at 6p yet walked in off the street and they accommodates us. Maybe I'm off track on what I think is their marketing strategy but the serving staff is extremely attentive with various waiters tending to your experience with an overseer of the floor and your waiter who take your order. My glass never went empty. My chicken dinner with okra and peppers was to die for. This is a pricy dining experience but my food was fantastic! Note: no table bread offered, which is a foul in my opinion for the restaurant price point. Last note: it's a giant place with indoor and outdoor seating. read more

A true spot of southern elegance. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to Husk and saw it is located in a beautiful 2 story home with super tall ceilings. It was stunning! As a party of 6, we were seated upstairs at a huge round table. It was very nice. I love that the restaurant feels so relaxed but bougie at the same time. The server in particular was fantastically thorough and thoughtful. I love when the staff makes a dining experience seamless and times everything perfectly, which she absolutely did. Another Southern comfort treat I had to experience in South Carolina. We were absolutely lucky to get a table at this place for brunch, at the prime 12pm Sunday afternoon time. Never dreamt I would have it in an authentic Southern mansion converted to a restaurant. We were seated on the 2nd floor and it was so spacious in this area. All I needed was a fancy ruffled dress with my parasol to fit this scenic day. And the meal we had was incredible that you would rarely get back in my home. The lavender strawberry fried donuts was so powdery and jam filled goodness, not too sweet that I was able to take multiple quick bites. I didn't go for the cocktails such as the Bloody Mary and mimosas but these were stylish and had a punch in citrusy and spices. The best from what my friends said that they ordered multiple in one sitting. My drip coffee was very strong and dark with the cute little milk mug jar given to me - just like what you see in the Alice in Wonderland movie when she was trying to shrink to fit through the keyhole. Starters are down, let's go straight to the entrees. Fried chicken and biscuits with peppercorn gravy, with a second dish: pork belly, chili oil flakes and lemongrass fried rice. Both weren't shy with the punch in spices and crisp flavors. The runny egg on top of my pork belly dish made the flavors even more satisfying. The best topper to this dish.
