Stopped into Hutch's for an after-work drink during the week. Sat at the back bar with a friend. Bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly. Made great cocktails, too! We decided to place a small order of food, and I'm so glad we did. The jambalaya pasta is--hands down--the best I've ever had. The flavor is simply out of this world. We were downtown and decided to go out for dinner instead of heading home. I gave Hutch's a try for reservations and was surprised at getting an early table at 5:15. We were very happy with the table as it was in a small room with two other tables. Getting a last minute reservation at such a popular restaurant had me expecting a table near a door or high traffic area. Our server was very polite, explaining the menu and taking our drink orders. We started out oysters and shrimp & lobster bisque. Both of these were quite good. For our meals we both chose the bison strip steak. The steaks were perfectly prepared to our liking and very tender. For dessert we shared a delicious Orange Zest Crème Brûlée. It was a wonderful evening with attentive service and excellent food. While it wasn't obvious to me at first as I found myself driving around the block, there is a large parking lot located behind the restaurant. Stopped at Hutch's after the auto show on Saturday 2/5. We had trouble finding parking until we saw the driveway next to the restaurant. There is a large lot behind with an entrance to the restaurant. We started our meals with oysters that were fresh and delicious. Next we had the shrimp and lobster bisque. This was easily one of the best I've had. My husband and I both ordered the bison strip steak. The bison was tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly to medium rare. We went to Hutch's for our anniversary dinner. I'd like to start by saying that the food that we had was delicious. I ordered the Jambalaya while my husband ordered the NY Strip Steak sandwich. The shrimp in my jambalaya was cooked perfectly, the sausage was nice and spicy and the chicken was also great. The penne noodles were a terrific consistency and the sauce left an awesome taste in my mouth. Honestly, my meal was so great that my husband kept dipping into my dish just to have 'one more bite.' They have a very extensive wine menu and they carry a few beers on tap. We wish that we were able to stop at the bar after dinner, but the area is kind of small and it was crowded, so we opted out. But, it looked very cozy. So, where did Hutch's fall short? Our waiter wasn't the most attentive. There were a few other servers who were in the area doing some busing work, and they were better than our actual waiter. He didn't check on us once and just seemed like he didn't really want to take care of our table. Maybe he was having an off day? I'm not too sure... I forgot to mention, they offer two different kinds of focaccia and baguettes before dinner. I selected the tomato focaccia and it was so yummy!! So, overall the food was great - the service is where it lacked. If I could Hutch's a 3.5, I would do so. It's really classy and while the menu is priced high, it's great for a celebratory occasion when you want to splurge. The desserts, appetizers and entrees were all great. We shared: Beet Salad - delicious beets + a slice of tomato with crusted nuts on top. Tuna Tartar - jalapeno with raw tuna, served with chips. High quality tuna and pretty good. Stuffed poblano pepper - favorite with a delicious pepper and many sauces My entree was the jamabalaya pasta which was delicious, but my favorite was probably the Calf Liver that my wife enjoyed. It was prepared delightfully and was on the menu for only $18. For dessert, I had an incredible fruit cup made in an almond bowl with house made whipped cream and a cup of coffee! This has been our favorite restaurant by far for many years. My bride and I secured 8:30 reservations this past Saturday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was impeccable. The service from Mike B. was outstanding! He's terrific. However, it took one hour and forty-five minutes to get a salad and an appetizer. It then took over twenty more minutes to get our entrees. Two hours for a meal. The new decor is awesome, we will be back, of course, but waiting two hours for a meal is the reason for my two star rating this time. The staff is attentive, classy and professional...the food is in a class all its own. The steaks and chops are from Allen brothers of Chicago and are superior in taste, texture and preparation. My friend ordered the pork chop which was on the specials menu...tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. So the soft shell appetizer was very good, my Ribeye steak was mediocre and undercooked, my wife's Salmon was good and the desserts were the star of the show. I had the almond cookie cup and my wife the creme Brûlée. For excess of $160 without drinks for 2 , I expect excellence and these meals did not reach that bar. The gentleman in the front was so incredibly rude. I walked in happy to pick up the food. One gentleman asked me how I would like to pay. I handed him cash. ($50 bill). As a western New Yorker, you always hear how highly regarded Hutch's is. I have been wanting to go hear for such a long time and this week I finally got the opportunity. Hutch's is a high class steak/seafood restaurant. On the inside it looks very classy however if you are going for a more casual feel you can head straight to the bar area where you'll find a couple high tops and a few booths. I love the feel of the bar, it's not too fancy but fancy enough to make you feel like you're getting the steak restaurant experience. I ordered the bistro steak and it was was covered in blue cheese and served over a portabella mushroom with squash, green beans and mashed potatoes on the side. I didn't eat the mashed potatoes because the rest of the plate was so filling. One thing I really appreciated about the menu at Hutch's is the variety. While it is an upper scale restaurant their cocktails are fairly priced at approximately 13 dollars a cocktail. They also have smaller cheaper plates that included steak tartar and a 1/2 rack of ribs. In the future I would love to come here after work and just get a cocktail and small plate and enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. read more

Paying $65 for steak au poivre and it coming with some squash and green beans (which were also served with everyone else's meal) was a massive disappointment. Tailor the sides to the item. My son and I took my wife here for Mother's Day. She came away thanking us for the best Mother's Day ever. My son and I had the Bison strip which was cooked a perfect medium rare and seasoned flawlessly. The dish was fantastic. My wife had the halibut and she couldn't say enough good things. I had an old fashioned, age had a lemon martini and both drinks were on point. Dessert was coffee toffee ice cream Sunday's and the almond lace cookie cup, all were excellent. 3.5 This is a much loved higher-end Buffalo dining spot. It's been here for over 20 years, maybe 30. It's basically on Gates Circle, that small stretch of Delaware between Gates Circle and West Delavan. There are three areas to this place - which is surprising because it's not that big. One is the visible street patio area. Perhaps 8 tables, I think they move them around based on group size. It can be lovely. They do have it covered so it can also get hot. Then walking in is the "more formal" area. Walking through that to the back you arrive at the bar area. I believe the menu is the same throughout. And that menu hasn't changed in a looooonnnnnggggg time. Perhaps ever. Even the specials have been around a llloooooonnnnggggg time (like Tempos). But ok. Means they know what the people want and they can sell it so you will always get fresh food. And I have to say, it's a pretty big menu given the size of the place and the size of the kitchen, which you can see. I believe their specialty is steak, but I'm not sure I've ever been with anyone who had a steak. Recently I had the tuna tartare app which was very good. Next time, if I go back, I'll ask for that as an entree. Someone else had the mussels and loved them. They offer either a piece of focaccia or a baguette as the bread. No bowl of bread for the table. One and done. But ok, the food is good and you shouldn't fill up on bread. I also saw a pasta dish that looked great. The wine list is impressive, and has changed over time (thankfully). It's 3.5 to me for a few reasons: The food I had was more like a 4.5. I liked my peach salad a lot but only order that when peaches are in season. It's TOO LOUD. Note to all higher-end Buffalo eateries - if you make it less loud you will be busy all the time. I promise. We want to hear each other, not shout at each other. I know Hutch's is always busy anyway, but seriously, you can cut down on the noise level easily. Our waiter was taciturn. And honestly, I don't get that. You work at a place that's doing a tremendous business, (you need a reservation), your tips will be nice, just change your 'tude. Or go work at some other place. You are not doing the owner any favors. I'll be back I'm sure. People really like this place. I wish them well. I would simply enjoy it more if I could hear more easily. This was one of the worst experiences we have had in a restaurant. The service was subpar, even though they were adequately staffed. It took 1 hour for us to be seated even though we had reservations, then another 1 1/2 hours to get our appetizers all of which were uncooked (salads and tartare). Then, it took another hour for our entrees to arrive. Overall, it took 4 1/2 hours from start to finish. The food itself was ok, nothing special and definitely not worth the price. We will never go back to this restaurant, as it fell short on every aspect in terms of quality. If I could give negative stars I would. I've been there a few times now and each time the service was stellar! The waitstaff really know their stuff and are extremely professional! I have ordered the bistro steak, the beef tenderloin au poivre, and my bf has always ordered the 14 oz bone-in filet (not including bone weight). All of our experiences were great, although just recently, they have changed their bread baskets to one giant bread basket which one bus boy carries around the restaurant with him to put on people's plates (instead of the usual bread basket per table). Personally, even though I think it's a good idea (reduce waste), I think it's a bit "low-rent" for an upscale restaurant. Not only should each table get their own basket of bread, they should be fresh and heated, not cold and stale sitting in one giant basket! Other than that, the sides are not a-la-carte, which is nice. So with your steak you typically get a little bit of potatoes/fries, and mixed vegetables. We do always order sauteed onions and mushrooms on the side though just because. The lobster and shrimp bisque is delicious, although the french onion soup isn't the best. The side salads are also nothing special so I would recommend skipping those as well. Save room for dessert! I know I will try to next time! Still have never ordered dessert yet! They also have a reasonably priced wine list. All in all, I have never had bad food or service there, and they have valet! There's a nice outdoor patio overlooking Delaware Ave. Dining room was clean and dimly lit. A pretty unsuspecting but incredible bar area. Service is top notch. Our waiter even ran over with soda water to remove a stain. Cocktails are quality and pretty strong. NY strip steak IMHO was one of the best I've had in the Buffalo area.
