It's an all you can eat Korean BBQ. They 8 different kinds of meat, ranging from brisket, bulgogi, kalbi, two types of pork bellies, beef tongue. There are all types of side dishes to share. My boy is such a finicky eater and he loved it. I've never seen him eat so much b4. He especially liked the cooking by himself part. Best part is someone else is doing the cleanup part. I didn't like their seating set-up. Round tables with round swiveling ottoman-type chairs were not particularly comfortable. Also, I don't think their ventilation was all that great. My BF and I left stinkier than we usually do from other K BBQ places. Plus, the waitress didn't bring us many of our side orders. At first, I thought perhaps Hwang's simply didn't serve them. But then I looked over to a neighboring table, and sure enough, they had received all the appropriate dipping sauces (vinegar, salt, bean sprouts, etc.). That's not only disappointing, but insulting. Selection of meat is very limited, but the important thing is that they have the BEST meat selection. Rarely do I ever travel long distances for any kind of food. But when it comes to Hwang's it's a different story. Especially for Korean BBQ. For one, low price, you can eat to your heart's content (or your stomach's). The food is DELICIOUS and the service is great. They really take care of you at Hwang's. They give 8 side dishes, love the variety since most places give 5-6. Although, nothing taste especially good, only ok. Down side of the AYCE is they only have 9 choices, a little limited, but not too bad for the price. We had the slice brisket, marinated sliced beef, black pork belly, beef ribs and beef tongue. Overall meat quality is average, not the most tender. Again, since this is AYCE, a little lower standard is acceptable. The black pork belly is really good, lean with just the right amount of fat. We love the marinated sliced beef, yummy marinate although might be a little on the sweet side for some ppl. The beef ribs have a less sweet taste with no bones, will definitely order next time. One thing we really like about Hwang's is it is not as smoky as most of the KBBQ places. People came in complaining about the price, 21.99 AYCE, which I guess makes sense since there's so many AYCE KBBQ places in LA but we did not mind the price at all because we're used to prices like that in SF since AYCE KBBQ places are rare in the city. Good AYCE KBBQ for $21.99. Honestly, we came here because our go-to spots (Bull BBQ & Gen) were not able to reserve a big table for 12 for us last minute on Saturday night. They only had one AYCE option available but it had a decent selection of meats. We liked the beef ribs the best! Everything else was fine. The side dishes weren't bad either. If you want rice and/or rice paper you need to ask for it. Servers were very nice and came by to help cut the meat a couple times too (even trimmed fat!). FYI - This place doesn't have the best ventilation. My eyes hurt a bit after....you could see smoke building up in the air. They've connected some of their round tables to more comfortably seat larger groups. The floors are actually clean now, and the smoke level is surprisingly under good control for a kbbq place. And yes, they have dduk bo ssam regularly now. The AYCE menu is only 9 or 10 items, and no galbi, so it's pretty limited. The tongue is pretty good, the brisket is so-so (decent meat, but too thin, even for brisket), bulgogi is pretty decent. Regular pork belly is merely passable, and the pork neck is more like pork shoulder, pretty blah. Some places serve a nice real pork neck of marbled meat, this place does not. But service is good, and heck, you're nowhere near k-town. There isn't as much competition here, and for what it is, it's pretty darned good. Close enough to the decent places in k-town without the drive or the wait. Score! read more

My better half and I finally found a k-bbq spot in his hood that we both agree on. Sure, it's a little more expensive than Furusato but you get what you pay for. I also love the fact that this place is open until 1am. There are times when my boyfriend and I get caught up in whatever sometimes and don't get to eat until late in the evening when a lot of places are near closing. Been here several times already and the service is on point. I only found out recently that they actually had bells to ring them over to your table. Didn't have to use them until this most recent time because we were off to the corner divided by a wall so we weren't in plain view. Normally, the servers are walking around and are able to attend to you quickly. The banchan is also on point, my fave being the salad (love the dressing they use), the pickled radish, the fish cake, and the glass noodles. The first thing I noticed when checking out Hwang's Yelp page was that there wasn't a single 1 star rating, because it's delicious. That's why! KBBQ is amazing and Hwang's is currently my favorite spot in all of Los Angeles. It's that perfect mixture of dive bar feeling with huge portions of food and unfriendly Korean staff. Sure you'll get your food, but you ask for a side of garlic and jalapeno and you'll be sneered at, but pay that no head, ask for what you want and receive the bounty! Every time I go to Hwang's I get the brisket, hands down, no questions asked, I want brisket. If I'm there with 4 people I'll drop the $40 or $60 bucks and get the combo platters with pork belly and chicken or pork, but brisket is absolutely necessary. It's amazing however you cook it, a quick sear, or almost blackened. That sesame oil with salt for dipping is phenomenal when you over cook the brisket and slightly spicy sweet jalapeno dipping sauce is great when it's less cooked. The meat is accompanied by close to 15 different side dishes that are all different and awesome. There's kimchi, potato salad (oddly enough on of my favorites), bean sprouts, sweet potatoes, kimchi'd cucumbers, all kinds of delights. All that with a cheap bottle of soju for you and your friends and you have an incredible time. On my birthday at 11pm I told a friend I was going whether he wanted to or not, and you know what it was one of the best meals I've eaten. Why? Because every one of my survival instincts in regards to food were satisfied. My ribs were sticking with meat, sauce, sides, and soju. I love Hwang's and will be back in the near future! Location was convenient to us - right on Western in a shopping plaza with other Korean businesses. Parking was fine. Atmosphere was nice & relaxed although it was a bit loud but that can't be helped as the other people on the next table in our little room was talking very loudly. I usually don't like to go out to KBBQ because I don't like to cook when I go out due to the smokey atmosphere and oil splashing everywhere but this place was pretty ventilated and not too greasy or dirty. Service was friendly and efficient. The waitress was very nice and served us promptly. She brought out our water and took our order of what meats we wanted. There was no limits mentioned and she gave us her suggestions when we asked. Next she brought out all the kim chee and side dishes - there were probably about 10 little dishes. They were all delicious. The meats were good. We liked the marinated beef items (beef rib and bulgogi thin beef). The pork was good also but not as tasty. Came here with an appetite and really enjoyed myself. I've had kbbq at a few other places and they were good too but Hwangs tops them all. For $20, you get all you can eat meat and sides. This place also has the brown sauce and salt with oil dressings I like. The quality of the meat wasn't too bad either.
