This hotel was expensive ... but doesn't have the amenities to back up the price. The rooms are basic, no mini bar (to force you up to their bar/restaurant on the 7th floor), no room service, the fridge was tiny and it was warm when we arrived. No fan in the bathroom which turns the whole room hotel room into a sauna after a shower. And the view was the top of the surrounding buildings and ugly as sin. The free breakfast is one step above the Courtyards'. The eggs tasted like reconstituted eggs, everything was overly salty, the fruit was not ripe. And the coffee? Was DREADFUL. How do you screw up coffee? We've stayed at several Hyatts in Chicago and this one should change it's name to Days Inn. The staff was pleasant enough, but so are my neighbors and I don't pay them $700 a night to be sweet to me. Avoid. read more

There is a lot that is really good about the Wicker Park Hyatt, but the one bad thing is a BIG deal and drags it down from a 5 to a 2. First, the good: Staff is friendly - from valet to the bar to housekeeping, to the check in and out experience. Not a single person was other than friendly and helpful. It's clean. The bed and pillows are reasonably comfortable. The water pressure is good and the water was hot. Location is good. The towels are thicker and softer than mine at home (and I like nice towels). They are the nicest towels that I have had at any hotel in a long time. The not-so-great: Just in the last year the cost has increased a lot AND Valet parking is $55 a day, which is ridiculous. The awful: They apparently do not realize that women over 40 make up 26% of U.S. hotel clients and that perimenopause and menopause symptoms can last over 15 years. And that 80% of women in perimenopause and menopause have night sweats that are helped by keeping the temperature over night between 60 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. I mean they obviously don't know that because they would not be so misogynistic to throttle the temperature at 70 degrees, would they? I mean the thermostat let me set it at 64, which would have been fine, but it never dropped below 70. I slept 3 hours total over 2 nights. What is the primary purpose of a hotel room? To sleep! And then did not. I hope the meager amount saved by making me miserable is offset by the 6 showers I took and the future business that is seriously in doubt. If you can sleep in a warm room, this is a decent choice. If you can't, then I strongly suggest finding another option. read more

Avoid if you expect basic judgment during disruptions. I'm a Hyatt Globalist (60+ nights/year) and I don't write reviews lightly. This weekend's winter storm was severe. Airlines were waiving rebooking fees, events were being canceled, and travel safety was clearly at risk. Our theater show was canceled, so we called the hotel Friday night to cancel the reservation (booked using a Free Night Award). The outcome was shocking: the hotel kept the Free Night Award and charged an additional $175. When I asked for any flexibility given the storm and cancellations, the assistant manager, Judy, repeatedly cited "policy" with zero empathy and an unnecessarily confrontational tone. Policies exist, but hospitality is supposed to include judgment, especially during major weather disruptions. If you value reasonable customer service, this property is not it. Hyatt should make this right by reversing the $175 charge (and returning the Free Night Award if it was taken). read more

Pros and cons list here we go... Pros: hotel was clean, breakfast was tasty with many options, free cookie and waters for Hyatt members, staff was friendly, rooftop views 10/10. Cons: parking was expensive, traffic outside was noisy, no fan to drown out the noise, bathroom sink splashed water everywhere. Stayed one night (St. Patrick's weekend) for an event nearby. They have valet parking available. This hotel is an interesting set up. The lobby/check-in is located on the 7th floor. As far as noise goes, I'm not sure if it was the weekend we chose, but it was noisy. They provided earplugs in the hotel room which makes me believe this is an ongoing issue. We didn't clearly read the check-in sheet of paper and forgot to put the DND sign up in the morning so we were woken up to housekeeping around 830am... if you're a late sleeper, don't forget to put this up! The rooftop bar views are great. The blackout curtains certainly do work. They provided a bottle of water. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly a good spread. read more

The last time we stayed at the Hyatt Wicker Park, , we were given the worst room in the hotel. It was crowded and all we could see was the top of a garage or some obstruction. By the low quality of the room the price we paid should have been imbursed at least half of what we paid. read more

Overall, was pretty pleased with my stay here. Came here from Hotel Lincoln and found my experience much better. Very nice and modern furnishings, nice little "living area" in our space, and overall better amenities as well. Some of my highlight amenities were the fitness gym here was quite spacious and nice, the breakfast that was included was very solid, and the rooftop views overlooking downtown were great. Excellent way to start or end your day! Keep in mind the space does become a restaurant in the evening so it can be tricky if you want to swing by it at night. Parking seems really pricey, but if you're willing to walk, there is some free street parking around if you drive around and look for it. Didn't really have any issues, but for someone less willing to walk it's definitely very pricey. Faucet was kind of weird and installed too far back from the sink so there was always splashing, but otherwise everything felt nice and clean. Nice around wicker can be pretty loud since you're near the highway and some busy streets, but it wasn't terrible. Good trade-off since you're so close to great restaurants, the 606 trail, and lots of other great stuff in wicker park area. Overall, would definitely visit again. A pool area or something would be nice, but in general it fit the bill. read more

Stayed at this property in Dec 2024 for 5 days on business. This hotel is exceptional! The rooms are large and comfortable and the hotel staff - esp the bartender - are world class! The lobby is on the 7th floor, which at first is strange but you quickly learn why it was designed that way. The food in the restaurant is good. My only complaint is the workspace in my room. While the desk was large, there were no available plugs for the computer or usb outlets. None the less / 5 stars! read more

I stayed 2 nights for a family wedding and really enjoyed my time there. The hostess desk/lobby/reception area is on the 7th floor. You have to take the elevator up from the car drop off area. Parking is $45 and valet only. I got in very early and the reception area was very accommodating about holding my bag until my room was available. I was on the fourth floor facing the city skyline and the back of the hotel. I heard no street noise or noise from.other rooms as some of the other reviewers mentioned. I had a double queen room with a small sitting area. The room was nicely appointed and comfortable. The bathroom and shower were a good size. The water was hot and plentiful with good water pressure. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet on the 7th floor. I did not go to the bar area but it looked nice with good views of the city skyline. read more

This hotel goes above and beyond in service! I had a sick child who needed some toast at around 9 pm or so. Decided to see what they had available on the 7th floor reception area to buy, and was greeted by the most lovely guest services person at the front desk - Alexa - who helped us access bagel and cream cheese even offered my daughter some fruit loops from the breakfast area so she could feel better. And then, didn't want compensation. She could not have been more lovely to a teenager needing some love and care. The hotel is clean and very well located, but it was the simple act of caring from Alexa that made it a place we will return to on our next visit to Wicker Park to visit my niece and her new baby. Wow! Amazing. Alexa deserves a special thanks. read more

This Hyatt Place was built in 2020 and so it is brand spanking new. The building has 8 floors and rooms on the top floor have higher ceilings than other floors and therefore feel larger. We received really exceptional customer service here when staying in early November. We were originally assigned to a room on the 6th floor facing a building (minimal sunlight) so I politely asked if there was anything else available with a better view. They were very accommodating and reassigned us to room 821, which is on the top floor and faces west so you can see all of Wicker Park as well as a beautiful sunset view. The chromecast in the room did not work and we were planning on staying in and watching movies that night so I asked the front desk if they could fix it. They sent up their maintenance person Emilio who was very helpful but was unable to fix it due to a building issue. Eventually they gave us the option to move to a room where the chromecast was working, room 819 which had an amazing east facing view of the Chicago skyline and sunrise. They even provided us with some goodies for our movie night for our inconvenience. Special thanks to the manager Hector, front desk Shanna and Jonah, and maintenance from Emilio for the really going above and beyond for our stay. Definitely some of the best customer service I've ever experienced at a hotel. Beds are comfortable, blanket is thin as per typical of Hyatt Places. Complimentary breakfast is back to normal and both hot and cold foods are served. Would highly recommend to anyone who needs to stay in Wicker Park. read more

This review deals with the reservation service which is routed, apparently, to India. We booked 4 nights but due to a change in plans had to move the 4 day block one day ahead. I was "in line for more than 15 minutes" due to the usual "we are experiencing higher than usual calls". When I got through, I thought it would be a simple process. It was NOT. We have enough points for two free nights. When we originally booked, we only paid for the two other nights. Unfortunately the guy had problems with that. He kept insisting that we couldn't use the points because, "you do not have enough points!" After several frustrating attempts, I was finally able to get him to apply the points. Unfortunately we weren't finished. He said that he had to cancel our original reservation and rebook it at a noticeably higher price! I argued with him but realized that was going nowhere! As I told him, this was not the service I expected from Hyatt hotel! My wife travels for business and recently spent a month at their Dallas hotel training new sales reps. Recently she had to book a couple of nights in two cities. The Marriott booking went smoothly. The Hyatt took a frustrating half hour. If Hyatt reads their reviews, you are driving away business! As for this hotel, we hope for the best and will update my review after our stay. read more

Nice modern hotel. Rooms were clean and overall condition was well maintained. The bathroom faucet was installed too close to the back splash so that evertime we washed our hands, it was gauranteed for water to puddle around the faucet. We had to leave a towel around the faucet to prevent it from overflowing down to the bathroom floors. Shower had good water pressure. Our room was on the 4th floor facing Ashland Avenue. We can hear all the traffic noise. The hotel provided ear plugs for guests who needs them. No options for self parking, valet is $45/day with in/out privileges. They post hourly rates, but if you enter anytime before 12 AM and leave your car overnight as a hotel guest, you will be charged for a full day! We arrived at 8PM and was charged for the full day for parking. Ridiculous policy, but we didn't want to gamble with street parking and getting ticketed. Wicker Park has several bars and restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, so you do not have to travel far for food or drinks. Complimentary breakfast was good. Options were freshly cooked scrambled eggs, sausages, waffles, fresh fruits and cereal. Rooftop bar had friendly bartender and a nice view of the Chicago skyline. read more

I don't know if this hotel is any good and I won't be finding out any time soon. I tried multiple phone calls, an in person visit, and filling out a form online to try to get some rooms blocked for my wedding guests. When I finally got a form letter response with a link to a "discount code" the nightly rate was actually more than if I just booked on their website. Used this venue for my wedding hotel for myself and my guests. Not only did they double charge us for rooms at the end, they also double charged for cars when I did not even have a car (I live down the block). We also rented out their Ashland room and when confirming the week before they had the wrong set up, wrong number of guests, wrong lunch order, and wrong card to charge. Further, when I arrived they placed me in the wrong room even when I stated I was the bride and had a suite. Overall I would not recommend staying at this hotel for an event. read more

We just came back from staying almost a week here over the Thanksgiving holiday. The staff was incredibly kind. They insist you take the elevator first, and ask if you need anything. I should have gotten the front desk girls name. She gave my kids special paper to to write letters to Santa, not only checked in on us daily about our experience, but also remembered what plans we had from when we chatted during Check-in . She'd ask us how they were and if we enjoyed them. The hotel was very clean and new. We are previous Chicagoans, so being IN a neighborhood and a bit out of downtown-downtown is such a plus for us. We don't want to wake up on Michigan Ave with everyone else. The Blue-Line El was a short walk away and the Ashland bus right outside the hotel and across the street, which gave quick access to much of the city. The free breakfast was better than what I was expecting, and better yet was the view from the dining area! We would definitely stay again! Last, but not least, they had a room big enough to sleep 6! If you are looking for a hotel with great access and location to things then this is the place. I loved the room and the shower was amazing! I could have just stayed and made a house in that shower haha my only complaint was that the valet was high and obviously the smell got in the car. Also no one was ever at the front desk. The main reason we stayed here for 8 days was because the parking was reasonable and because of the free breakfast included. Breakfast was served in the dining area (due to covid we weren't sure what to expect) and was great the first day. They had eggs, bacon, French toast sticks, yogurt, hot/cold cereals, oranges, and juices/ coffee tea. After that, however, they switched to just what I have taken pictures of. Pretty sad. When we asked why there were no hot options anymore, the staff said their manager told them not to put them out all this week or next week. We came down daily for drinks after that, but ate across the street instead. Overall however, the hotel was clean and the beds were comfy. I also appreciated the wood floors in the rooms. Housekeeping was great and they left the room/ floors smelling fresh. The rooms also had blackout curtains which was nice, but I wish the windows were more noise reducing. At 1:30AM one night we woke up to people doing donuts out front for like 10 minutes. On our last night we woke up to some people outside yelling/ fighting SUPER loud around 2:00AM. This location also serves Starbucks drinks but doesn't have any non dairy milk (no oat/almond/soy). Check your bill before you check out! We booked 2 rooms and had only 1 car, but we were charged for parking on both rooms. Overall it was an OK experience, but there's definitely room for improvement. read more

hotel is pretty new, clean with AWESOME Valet service. The Kennedy rooftop is somewhat of a joke. VERY nice views on a clear night, some of best in city, but slow, slow, slow. They are way short staffed and can only sit about half the tables. They give zero preference to hotel guests. THE HAT is a great late night place for food, open till 2 a.m. across the street. Hotel is right off 90 so easy freeway access (to sit in Chicago traffic) Neighborhood is safe. read more

Adam Miller, GM, was great! Along with Angelica at breakfast, the valet and the rest of the team at the Hyatt, our son's graduation from Orthodontic school at UIC during COVID was special. Our rooms were all together on the same floor, Adam made the block of rooms easy to set up and the Kennedy Rooftop was beautiful! PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay at one of the other zillion hotels in the area that are much more accommodating. I only stayed here one night and it was total garbage compared to the 3 other hotels in Chicago I stayed at this trip. There are very little amenities here. The breakfast was only for 2.5 hours which was 6:30 to 9. If you're here from the west coast that means you have to drag your ass out of bed to make it there in time and if you don't you have to wait until 4 when the restaurant opens. Not even coffee available. I had a morning work meeting and went to the front desk to ask if I could work somewhere on the rooftop or in the lobby and was told no, not until 4 when the restaurant opens. So I went to my room where my partner and I had our work meeting (we work for the same tech company) from 11:30-12:30. Now checkout is at 12, which is why I wanted to get out in time for my meeting. At 11:45, 15 BEFORE check out. We got a knock at the door asking us to leave. We said we were in a work meeting and it wasn't check out yet. Then at 12 exact another knock. I answered and said we are wrapping up work meeting can we please have just a moment to finish? Again that's the second kick out we received by the exact check out time. We were told yea no problem. 5 minutes later.... Another knock knock. I repeated what I said and this time the maid called the front desk to ask. She told me no problem. I said it would only be another 15 minutes tops and they said that was absolutely okay. In only 5 minutes we received a very loud and abrasive pounding on the door with a simultaneous scream "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE OUT ALREADY!" It was incredibly rude and interfered with our meeting (for the third time). I answered the door to a grumpy faced woman that rolled her eyes and walked away. We immediately walked out, bags and computers in hand, and couldn't even exit the hallway because of all the crap from the cleaning staff strewn about. For someone wanting us out so bad, they didn't seem to care about clearing a path so we could actually LEAVE. By far the worst customer service experience I've ever received at a hotel. I would recommend this Hyatt hire staff that actually likes working with people instead of the grumpy, disheveled, and unprofessional crew they have now. Valet was the only section of the hotel with professional and friendly service, although valet is $50 a night. The other surrounding hotels offer the same nightly rate, a lower nightly valet fee, are far more accommodating, and include many more guest amenities. Had the most wonderful time at the Hyatt Kennedy rooftop! Spectacular service wonderful view of the Chicago skyline. Amelia was our waitress so professional and kind, wonderful experience enjoying the nice weather. We asked a gentlemen, to take a picture of us, he was from genuine Hospitality from St. Louis, he couldn't have been more pleasant. Such an enjoyable time! read more

Wonderful stay. Facility and location was wonderful. Didn't like the 45$ parking initially, until I saw what an issue parking is in Chicago. I was glad to have my car close and safe. I'm giving it three stars for the cleanliness and the fact that the rooms look new and wood floors which is a plus (carpet is generally nasty). However, the greatest function of a hotel is to provide you a comfortable place to sleep. Sleep I did not because of the constant LOUD sound of running water and the traffic outside and occasional drag racing. The location is just ok. The rooftop bar is nice but the manager there is a bit rude. read more

I was very disappointed in my stay at the Hyatt Place. I had housekeeping continually knock at my door and yell into my room at 8:40am when I had a 12:00pm check out. On top of the inappropriateness of the early disturbance, every hotel I've stayed at during COVID suspends daily cleaning for the remainder of a guest's stay. read more
