I went in for ramen, but since the broth was pork based I end up getting the after burner roll. Service was great and the employee was very friendly and helpful. She even told me about some specials that were not listed on the menu. There was plenty of seating inside, it was quiet when i went during lunchtime.

Me and my wife are moving to the area and looking for new places to eat, this was our first spot. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and were given menus to decide. The owner was very nice and gave my wife a taste of something she was debating on ordering. Overall everything we ordered was great. we got a poke bowl, the lemon roll and some spicy garlic edamame. My favorite item was definitely the lemon roll but overall everything was delicious. Besides the service being great it was definitely clean and a welcoming environment. Can't wait to return and get the ramen!

When it comes to Ramen...there are just so many good Ramen places here in San Diego that I have really high expectations. This place was just ok for me. Not my favorite. My wife and I tried this place out on a weekday night. It's located next to the Rancho San Diego movie theater right next door to two places that we go to all the time. We finally decided to give this place a try. I need to start this review off by saying the staff here is really friendly. From the order taker to the lady who served us, they were great! Customer service is right on! As for the food... We tried the Pork Ramen Bowl with Tonkostu broth and the Chicken Ramen with Shoyu broth. Both come with all the usual toppings and you can modify as needed to your tasting. The serving size is a good portion. Probably even a little bit more than some of the other places. However, both of the different broths that we tried just missed it on the taste. Both of them were just bland and really lacked the flavor. The same was true for the pork and the chicken that was in the ramen. No real flavor to either of them. It wasn't terribly bad...but also not very good. In addition to our ramen we also ordered several appetizers. And order of vegetable and chick gyoza, an order of Shrimp Tempura and a California roll. Of the three, the gyoza was the best. Perfectly cooked and crispy. The California roll did not look very fresh. The colors of everything inside of the roll just looked off. We didn't even end up finishing the roll. And lastly, the shrimp tempura was not what I expected. The breading on the shrimp was not crunchy and when you bit into it, it was just soft. Overall, not my favorite. But again, shout out to the staff for the great customer service.

Hyshinu was my lunch time destination after running an errand in the El Cajon area. The suite was located next to the movie theater in the Rancho San Diego Towne Center which meant parking was not an issue. The seating capacity was less than 50 customers which included the countertop adjacent to the kitchen preparation area. Ramen, sushi, and poke were featured, however I wanted noodles for my meal which is what this review will be about. You started by choosing one of three meats (beef, pork, chicken) before deciding on one of six types of broth. Beef as a protein for a ramen bowl was a rarity. I chose pork, but unfortunately my top two picks for broth (Hybrid Black, Fish) were unavailable so I settled for the Premium Shoyu. Each order included a soft boiled egg, green onions, bean sprouts, garlic chips, corn, red ginger, and seaweed. I excluded the garlic chips but included the rest of the toppings. The bowl took a while to be prepared even though it was not particularly busy. After waiting around 15 minutes, I received my food which was a reasonable portion size for the price tag. The slices of pork were a disappointment as the meat was chewy and not melt in your mouth soft as I have tasted elsewhere. The remaining components were fine. For the quality of the ramen product I tried, my rating of Hyshinu was a middle of the road three stars.

We were not greeted by an employee at the hostess stand and finally sat ourselves. It took 15 minutes for a server to greet us and ask for our drink order. Once he arrived for our drink order we put in a small food order to test out the quality of proteins. It took 40 minutes to get two hand rolls and one albacore sashimi order. The order took so long to arrive that once it did, we quickly put in a specialty roll order before trying the hand rolls. The specialty roll came out in two minutes flat, I did see a roll sitting on the sushi bar before we ordered. I believe we got someone else's roll because I asked about the long wait times. After the roll was delivered a server came over to our booth specifically to make a snarky comment, he said "you're lucky this was fast, people wait 1 hour for this on Fridays." The restaurant was clean, had a neat wall painting and the parking was free, those are the only positive experiences from our visit. The sashimi was dry as if it had been sitting out not properly stored. Hand rolls were mostly rice, the only protein is what you can see in the pic - gone in one bite of a 4 bite roll. The specialty roll was average. This was a very unpleasant experience, we will not go back and will not recommend to friends/family/yelpers. It should also be noted that we went on a Sunday afternoon and there were 3 sushi chefs behind the counter, 3 servers on the floor and 1 host. Hard to understand why the wait times were excessive and service was poor. Our server did acknowledge that the service was slow, however, he did not offer any apology, he just shrugged it off.

Tonkotsu Ramen Rich creamy pork broth with thin wavy noodle and pork. Not quite as good as the shrimp but excellent, in its own way. The broth was super rich and creamy. Excellent ramen though. Becky, of course had the Crunchy Roll with a side of Chicken Fried Rice and loved both. As per usual. Our friends very much enjoyed their Bento Box and Chirashi Bowl (assorted fish over sushi rice) which he customized with the fish of his choosing. Four great meals at Tabu.

Sometimes servers can check in a little too often and interrupt conversation, but the staff here does a great job of being attentive without being intrusive. The edamame and miso soup are also great appetizers to start with. The prices are a bit high, so we tend to come here more for special occasions or date nights, but the quality makes it worth it. Overall it's a great spot with consistent service and really good sushi.

I guess I'm echoing what other long term patrons have already shared. I don't see any of the lovely staff there. It feels less friendly. I used to tell other people to come here for the salmon sashimi, which was the best I had ever had... creamy, and thick generously slices. Not now. Yes, it tastes great, but the slices are very thin, almost translucent, yet the price is the same. It used to be presented on a bed of salad, with wasabi and ginger. Not anymore. Just 5 thin slices on a black platter. We had to ask for wasabi and ginger. The miso soup has barely any tofu in it. And they didn't have any beer - none at all. I think their license expired. The one server was pleasant but wasn't checking to see if we needed drink refills etc. There were literally six customers, including us. It feels like the new owners think some updated decor, which is actually nice, is all that is needed, and they can cut corners to save money elsewhere on food costs and servers. That road will only lead to closure. Tragic, really.
