This is a nice little family restaurant and also one of those pay at the counter and seat yourself joints, so no waiter service per se if that's the experience you're searching for. They had a pretty limited sake selection, but we were recommended the mango Nigori and it was spectacular. I definitely recommend that one. I ordered a 1/2 salmon 1/2 tuna poke bowl and a cucumber roll. My partner ordered the vegan ramen, a veggie hand roll, and some veggie tempura. We both agreed that the ramen was a hit but the sushi severely lacked flavour even with soy sauce and ginger added. The poke bowl I ordered was also really good. The tempura was completely bland. My daughter had a kids teriyaki chicken ramen. She didn't finish it, but I did and that was also really good. The service was quick and it wasn't too busy when we arrived which was around 330/430pm on a Sunday, and the price is so reasonable compared to a few other places. I have been here a few times over the last year or so but recently been stopping by about once a week. One of the reasons is because I've been craving sushi and they do a decent job. I like the ramen too but not been cold enough for me to get it, instead poke or rolls have kept me coming back. More specifically, I like the Rancho San Diego roll, the crunchy roll, and the stuffed jalapeños are a real treat with crab and cream cheese inside. The second reason for me is the warm hospitality. I never really noticed it before, maybe it didn't exist, but what happens now is when I walk in I feel welcomed, appreciated. The first time I tried this place it was amazing! The second time was extremely disappointing and the food was gross. I ordered pork ramen, beef ramen and the albacore tuna roll. First, I asked the guy behind the register for more ginger. He takes out this tiny amount and I said I LOVE ginger can I get more. Did they change owners? They changed the batter for the fried items. Before it was light and tempura like. I recently bought the Tempura Shrimp and assorted vegetables plate. When it was delivered the whole bottom of the container was swimming in grease. The batter was thick, heavy, and soaked in grease. Absolutely not tempura. I came here when this place first opened and I thought it was great for how close it was to where I live and work. However, a few years later the quality has sure fallen off from what it once was. I ordered takeout and have dined in a few times just to give this place a redemption but I can't bring myself to give it anything better than microwaved cup-a-noodle. Let's start with the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen. Salty, as it should be, but overly watery compared to most ramen places in San Diego. Hardly has that signature creaminess you get from real tonkotsu broth. It really just falls flat for tonkotsu and I could probably go as far to say that they might water it down to save money, but that's just speculation. Noodles; the bread and butter of a good ramen. They're store bought noodles, straight up. Don't believe me? Ask them. I ordered takeout and lo and behold my noodles were still at the bottom of my bowl uncooked, hell, I went to dine in and they were still slightly undercooked with an almost doughy or chewy texture. The toppings they use are just fine. Corn, bean sprouts, green onions, roasted garlic chips, all classics. But let's get this straight, no amount of good toppings will save a poorly executed ramen. Aside from ingredients and taste, just from my experience they always forget one or two things every time I order. I guess they have too much on their plate, pun intended, aaaand moving on... This place is just getting underway and it's evident. I stopped in for an early dinner, and I basically had the "Rice Bowl," but in lieu of the rice I had it was ramen noodles with chicken. It was a nice bowl, but they initially forgot to place the chopped scallions, black sesame seeds, and the red ginger slivers a top of the chicken that was nicely placed over the noodles. It was an easy fix and my friendly server quickly rushed it back to the kitchen where they made the correction. The chicken a top was good. A little sweeter than I would of liked but it was tender and flavorful. I would recommend they pay a little more attention to the butchery because some of the pieces still had a little fatty pieces and cartilage. The noodles were good, perhaps a little dry, so I added a bit of soy. They tasted good and were cooked just right to give that fun texture when you eat them. The addition of the scallions, ginger, and sesame seeds gave the dish some pop. They were great, but the addition of one vegetable, such as a bit of bokchoy or cabbage, to the meal would of been great. Also, they need to remember to carry Shichi-mi tōgarashi. They did not have any, and it would of made a difference with my noodles and chicken. read more

Great place but still a take out joint so hard to think of it as 5 star. My daughter and I came by for what I call "date night" and she calls "whatever". She started a ramen kick but it's been that stuff in a styrofoam cup. It was time for something more palatable and we wanted to stick close by. Yelp to the rescue. I ordered her a tonkotsu based bowl with chicken while I went with a ahi poke bowl. We also ordered some gyozo to get things going. The poke bowl was fabulous with uber fresh ingredients and a nice mix of flavors. The dumplings were good with a crispy shell and yummy stuffed inside.
