I had a wonderful experience with this dealership. Especially in the parts department. The staff was very friendly and got me exactly what I needed. The best part is me being a girl I'm always concerned the guys will take advantage of my lack of knowledge with my car. I thought I needed something done to my engine when really it was something minor, all I needed was an adjustment and a fuse. It's nice to know that these guys weren't after taking my money but after keeping me coming back. Kevin Fabela was really knowledgeable; I have had terrible experiences at dealerships and it's nice to know that at Hyundai of Escondido they put the customer first. I was referred to Hyundai of Escondido by a friend who knew that I needed to buy a new, reliable and reasonably priced car ASAP. She introduced me to Michael Witman. One of his great strengths is that he was able to help me over the phone. He was very helpful in his explanations and generous with his time, even though he knew that I lived far away and I was only calling him to confirm the final price I had received from another dealer. This is by far the worst company ever!!! Bought my first brand new car in 2012. Ended up having a recall on the sunroof. Took it in and was told they checked it and that I was good...nope sunroof exploded. Had the car towed in and when I got the car back their was grease on my seats and glass still in the car and sunroof area. Their response when I pointed this out "you get what you pay for" I stopped taking my car there for any work due to their rudeness and behavior. I recently had to bring it in cause the cars transmission was acting up. Made and appointment and showed up to be told they don't have a tech to look it over, and that I can bring it back on Monday. Complained to their manager to be basically called a liar and that their rep said no such thing. That was 3 hours after my original appointment, brought the car back. Explained the situation like I did prior on the phone and now have 2 pending $135 possible charge. If it's with in warranty I won't pay if not I'll have to pay $270 for them to just look at it. I will never recommend Hyundai I will never buy a Hyundai and after this I will never step foot here again. They treat people poorly and have no service skills. Was I apologized to at all during this NO!!! Was anything done to make up for their obvious lack of customer service NO!!! If you can AVOID ESCONDIDO HYUNDAI AT ALL COAST! One star by default as I can't mark any lower. This is only on the service department, as I have only been there for service. Rude employees, confusing area have to bring your car to one building so they can drive it across the street to new worked on. Was told my car is required to have synthetic oil which is not true. There were three employees just walking around and only one service writer. When I got my car back I had to reset my own oil light, kinda thought that would come with the oil change. My inspection sheet was just pencil whipped to appear that it was done. I had to take my car to another shop in order to have the tires set to the right pressure because there was no way I was going back. I have worked in automotive for over 20 years and this place has no idea what customer service is. read more

STAY AWAY! Unless your interested in the finance department throwing in $1,800 for themselves at signing. We purchased a car yesterday, we negotiated down to $12,000 out the door after my $1,500 down. If you are like me, you probably think that means Taxes, Titles, and all associated fees. When you waive around a paper saying "If you want the car you need to sign here, here, and here." Don't worry, they will give you about 45 seconds to read them before nudging you onto the next page. Later when you get a chance to breath you can look at the paperwork and realize you were just swindled into a swift $18,000. If you are an inexperienced car buyer or even a seasoned one. I beg you, Seriously. STAY AWAY. I've already made the mistake and if I could save just 1 person from falling into this trap. I'll will consider that a win. I called Escondido Hyundai to ask some questions regarding the new and used Hyundai Elantra's that they had available and spoke to Nick. After discussing my budget (which was somewhat flexible), he made it clear that I wouldn't be able to get a new car within my price range. I set up a time to come and test drive a 2017 Elantra, and even texted him when I was on my way. Upon my arrival to the dealership, nick was too busy to take me on my test drive or answer any additional questions. I contacted Carlsbad Hyundai the next day to see what my options were at this location, spoke with Alex who was much more helpful, and to my surprise I was informed that I could get a NEW Elantra for LESS than the used one I test drove at escondido. I texted Nick and informed him of the great deals at Carlsbad Hyundai and asked if I could get a similar offer there and I received NO response from nick. The next day, I went to Hyundai Carlsbad and bought a brand new 2018 Hyundai Elantra for less than I would have spent on the used car at Escondido. The difference in professionalism, follow up, and communication between the two dealerships is night and day. I was hesitant of doing business here because you walk in and the place looks very outdated. But I am so glad that we did not leave. After coming from a different dealership that wanted to play hardball and that silly bad cop good cop typical dealership game and willing to waste our time (with two kids with us: 6 month old and 3 year old) after stating that we were ready to purchase a car today, this place was a breath of fresh air! They were transparent, easy to talk to, gave an extremely competitive offer IMMEDIATELY unlike other dealerships we've been to! Thank you Nick (Internet sales manager) for accommodating our request to see a car they had just gotten out of service and in the detail queue, Gabriel the sales associate for being warm and not pushy, and Abe their used car manager for being quick and upfront. I had for the most part a good car buying experience at Hyundai of Escondido, with a MAJOR exception that almost made me walk away. Everyone should be aware that this dealer has a policy of adding a security system that you do not have the option to remove or not pay for. They add it to the car when they prepare it for the lot and hide the fact that it is going to cost you 1200.00 until you get to the point you are signing documents. If you tell them, you don't want or need the ugly device in your car they explain to you how it is going to keep it from being stolen and it adds value. My new car came with 3 years of Blue Link which will disable and locate a stolen vehicle for me which to my mind is much better than this. This very expensive(Cheap to the dealer) alarm system only disables the car if the cars windows get broken. Which will make your car un-drivable if it is something you do by accident. In my particular case, the car hadn't had the worthless alarm system installed yet and I told them I didn't want it. I was told that it would be installed when they got the car ready for me and it was a dealer policy that would not be changed. I reluctantly agreed to accept the car with the device because it was the exact car I wanted and I do like it very much. The obnoxious green blinking light that is eye searing at night when you turn off the car will annoy me to no end though so I have some regrets buying it now. I believe this type of deceptive practice to increase profits is completely unacceptable. I was also told that maybe my insurance company will give me a break on my premiums for this, and they did by about $3.00 per month which means it will take anywhere between 16 and 33 years to break even on the cost of the device which only has a 3 year protection coverage if I remember right. To start off, the good: Thomas is an excellent salesperson. He reads personality well and is direct, truthful and made the experience comfortable for me. The bad starts when Alex, the service manager, got involved. Out of the dozens of car deals I've been involved in, Alex is far and away the WORST sales manager I've ever met. He was pushy, rude, and aggressive. When we did not come to a number that I could feel comfortable with, he became very aggressive, called me a liar, saying I promised I'd buy a car from him. He essentially attempted to bully me into buying a car and would not return my keys so I could leave, when I put my foot down and told him he was being aggressive and pushy, he told me "no one is pushing you", when I said, "I'm the customer I tell you how you're making me feel, not the other way around" he then became angry and told me to get the hell out of HIS dealership. If I owned this dealership, I would never allow for a man with such a short temper and a lack of basic customer service to be in such a high position of power. How this man has sold any cars is beyond me; maybe bullying people works sometimes but not with me. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone, until he is removed. read more

As a vet I try to spend my money with reputable and honest companies. I am very disappointed in Escondido Hyundai. They were great when it came time to take my money. But when it comes to refunds they are sorely lacking. I bought an extended service contract through them. They were great until my car was totaled 3 weeks after buying the car and the contact I never used the service contract the car was only 3 weeks old. I purchased the exact same car from a different dealer and was informed that I should be refunded to fee for the service contract. I contacted Escondido Hyundai filled out the paperwork and was told it would take 6-8 weeks. Here it is 16 weeks later I go back to see what is happening I am told that hey will do an investigation to see what happened. It has been a week I've called them but return call even just to say we are still working on it. I did get an email asking if I would like to purchase another service contract. I am thoroughly disappointed in the service of Escondido Hyundai and I expect to hear back and have this situation resolved in a very timely manner. read more

I took my Elantra in because The check engine light came on.Come to find out there was a dead rat in there and a few chewed wires causing my check engine light to appear. I spoke with two different salesmen, Gabriel and Austin. Both knew the vehicle they were selling, and all information was presented when asked. No funny business on numbers. I wish I had reviewed Yelp before exercising the poor judgment to have Hyundai of Escondido service my 2003 Sonata. The word "service" is discredited if associated this organization. Here's the sequence of events that so enraged me to post on Yelp: Tuesday 4/08 I called Hyundai of Escondido to schedule an appointment to drop off my Sonata for service on Friday the 11th. At that time "TOM" told me I didn't need an appointment, just drop off the car in the a.m. When I arrived on Friday, the first question I was asked by the young man who wrote up the order was "Do you have an appointment?" NOT PLEASED!! I explained in detail my concerns (overheating, faulty windshield washer operation and an oil change). The pleasant young man behind the counter said "We have a very busy/full day and we probably won't be able to work on your car until the afternoon." HENCE, my original question on Tuesday about an appointment!! I explained that in no way was I prepared to leave the car over the weekend (I live in San Diego) and he didn't mention that it would be a problem. Throughout the day I received NO progress report phone calls....NOT ONE!! Around 3:30 that afternoon I called Hyundai and asked for a progress report. "Laura" (I think) told me that there were no notes on my order (PANIC!!!) but that someone would call me back in 1/2 hour. Over ONE HOUR later I received a call from "Tom" and he told me that they could not duplicate the overheating problem (the primary reason I brought the car to the service folks).. I presumed that the other two services (windshield washer repair and oil change) HAD BEEN performed and that my car was ready for pick up and I told him I was headed over. I arrived at the service bay about 45 minutes later and "Laura" (?) sent a different nice young man out to retrieve my car and bring it to me. He DISAPPEARED and didn't return for approx. 10 to 15 minutes. In the interim I went outside and saw my Sonata STILL UP ON THE RACKS!! After an ADDITIONAL 20 minutes of waiting I found out that they had only performed the oil change and did NOT address the windshield washer problem--NOR DID THEY CALL to alert me to this service omission. And I have posted this rather lengthy explanation of my sincere disappointment and dissatisfaction with Hyundai of Escondido. I am in the market for a new car at this point and I ASSURE YOU this Hyundai dealership will get NONE of my $$ for a replacement vehicle. I hope that the Service Manager is reading these YELP posts---he/she should be ashamed of the performance of the service staff. read more

Buying a car is a daunting experience. But being wrapped in a sales Webb pitch is a terrible feeling. I'm pretty straight forward. Had a price in mind, car in mind, cash price in mind and exploring financing. Not a good experience to negotiate with the manager/owner. A lot of time wasted I was prepared to be informed and look at the numbers with a rational perspective no such a thing happened. I'm educated and I don't appreciate to be given the run around and treated like You are doing me a favor to sell me a car. The outcome was very disappointing and full of pressure to say the least. I hate being treated like an idiot. Since I am polite I walked out today feeling like no matter what I would not give them one cent of my hard earned money and upset that I wasted my precious time away with a ma manager/owner that does not care. There is a serious need for the manager to review their customer service on how to treat people fairly. Some customers just are not into this crap and prefer straight answers and numbers and get it done. Im one of them. I'm still buying the car, somewhere else now with an appt tomorrow. I would rather negotiate then to be told. Please review the sale techniques good customers might walk out of sales just because of this. read more

Be very wary of the finance people and their dishonest tactics. I purchased a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq plug-in on 11/29/2018 at Hyundai Escondidio. When I was in with the finance person (his first name is Gabe) to execute the sales agreement, I specifically stated that I did not want to purchase any optional services (be aware that all these add-ons are pre-populated on their screens so you have to make sure you go through each line item on the sales contract). Gabe assured me that he had removed all the optional charges and ran through the paperwork very quickly. He didn't give me a chance to review any of paperwork he asked me to sign and just shoved page after page in front of me. Given I specifically asked him to remove ALL the optional charges, I assumed that they were taken out. When I got home that evening, I took a closer look at the agreement and saw that the optional $795 charge for the Karr Security System was in the sales contract. I called the dealership the following morning (Friday, 11/30/2018) and was told by another guy in the finance department named Robert that Gabe was off that day, but that he would talk to the manager and get back to me. After a couple of hours, Robert returned my call and told me to come into the dealership on Monday 12/3/2018 and talk to Gabe, who would "take care of it". My attempts to reach Gabe on Monday went unanswered until I tracked down the salesperson that sold me car on her personal cell phone to get Gabe to return my calls. When I finally spoke to Gabe, he insisted the $795 was not optional and as it was a pre-installed dealer option that I had to take, and that because I signed the contract, it was not reversible. I assured him that was not the case and asked him to follow up with the manager, who Robert told me he had discussed the situation with on Friday. Gabe told me that he would follow up with the manager and get back to me later in the day. He never did. In the grand scheme of things, the $795 doesn't add much to the monthly payments, but it is a matter of integrity and honesty. This is my third Hyundai I have purchased and probably won't be my last, but I will NEVER give this dealership a dime of my business again. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. The sales department is full of SLEAZY used car salesmen and women. We had our own financing, didn't need them to look for financing but they insisted. While we were waiting for them to do that, THEY SOLD THE CAR WE WERE TRYING TO BUY TO SOMEONE ELSE! No one would email us or call us back. I felt like they didn't want or need my business. Im here @ Hyundai,Escondido to do some car service for my everyday car, i had the lifetime oil change, and i specifically told them that i had that despite the fact that i have to pay for my tire rotation which is $25, not recalling that last time i paid for only $20 for it, they said prices changed and they didnt have the coupons anymore, and i talked to the manager about the appointment case that i had made, because i scheduled my car since last week for my car for my oil change at 4:30pm wed yesterday and they told me all of a sudden that i didnt have an appointment at 4:30pm and they told me that i cant do that coz their technician goes home at 5pm! ok?! im so weirded out by this, and its a 1st for me and the female that works here told me that ok ill just schedule you then thurs morning what time you wanna come in? i was like early morning is fine she said ok i have 8:15am, i said ok thats fine 8:15am then, shes like ok then just hung up on me, im like this b**ch seriously?! the manager doesnt seem to be concerned so much about this case, escondido hyundai cmon u guys are fishy as hell and got some sketchy customer service!!! smh!!! early morning im getting irritated by this bs! sigh* read more

During the deal they upfront and show you everything, no dealer has ever done for me before. Thanks for the update Steve but I've come to move on from this god-awful experience myself and have learned to keep a watchful eye on who handles my car. Again, thanks for attempting to compensate for what was one of the worst car experiences of my life but my worries aren't set on an oil change I can perform myself. Instead my worries are set on the broken sun visor you all attempted to hide by wedging it up in the roof and also all the deep interior plastic scratches, the scratches to the inner car door paint, and the scratches to the car handle groove paint, all stuff i can not fix myself versus a measly oil change. once again i appreciate the effort here, i see the effort steve, but sadly as for the rest of the dealership, zero effort. now please only get back to me on here if youre going to offer me my $100 visor replacement, and body work done. oh yeah more questionable bull crud is how did they manage to break the floor mat anchor on the driver side?? i swear all you get is problems raised here, none settled at all. oh plus i forgot, the seatbelt sensor still flashes even when no one is in the seat. so knowing the factory recall is flawed i can only hope the passenger airbag deploys in a bad event. i'm not having the seat removed again to be shipped off unless i'm supervising the removing and installing of the seat, the last thing i want is double the interior damage read more

I returned to this dealership after John called me to discuss my previous review and experience. John went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. He promised to make sure my car was inspected properly, cleaned inside and out, and even went as far as filling my gas tank. When I showed up today John was not available right away. Jose is the one who checked me, he was extremely nice. I ended up waiting at the dealership today since I took the day off from work. I was in the customer lounge and worked from my laptop on their guest WiFi. After working for a little while John went out of his way to come approach me when he was available. He sat down and talked with me and let me know exactly what they were doing on my car today and that everything would be taken care of. Car manufacturers evolve, models are constantly changing, dealerships come and go, but great customer service NEVER goes out of style. However, the big trick is finding it. We most certainly have...and when you find it, you stick with it. In May of 2016, we had our car transmission serviced due to mileage levels but when we got the car back and drove away, we noticed severe issues with downshifting. We returned the car the next day to the Service Department, noting the issues. They took care of it and when we got the vehicle back, it was shifting much better. Unfortunately, over time the shifting problems returned and actually became worse. When we took the car back in, we were told that we would need to replace the transmission. We had a brief discussion with Steve Enriquez, the Parts and Service Director, who recalled the issues that the car had had after the transmission flush (three flushes total due to two faulty machines that Hyundai had received) and promised to take care of the problem for us. Now, when something like this happens at other dealerships, you have to do all kinds of ranting, go through crazy gyrations, and ultimately raise your blood pressure to dangerous levels multiple times in order to get any kind of help. Our experience was the exact opposite. Literally, we never did anything more than that short discussion with Steve. He recognized the problem and seriously committed to getting us the help we needed. Unfortunately, the timing of the worsening of the shifting couldn't have been worse. We had a long vacation coming up that we absolutely couldn't reschedule, which would have pushed out the transmission fix by weeks if not months. Steve absolutely went the extra mile for us: after we delivered the keys to him, his team picked up the car at our appointment time from our home in San Marcos, drove it to the dealership in Escondido, completely replaced the transmission, cleaned the car, and drove it back to San Marcos, depositing it back exactly where it had been in our driveway. So from our perspective, we left the car in our driveway, flew off to Kauai, had a fantastic vacation, and when we came back and I got in the car, the only way that I knew that anything had happened was that it had been completely cleaned, there was a paper floormat down, and whoever drove the car was shorter than I am. The shifting was back on track and life was great! I really can't say enough about what Steve did for us. No fighting or pushing or long, angry phone calls. Steve ran interference for us and got it done with the kind of committed professionalism that is incredibly rare these days. This kind of amazing customer service is something that we had thought had gone away many years ago but Steve showed us that it still exists. To be completely candid, given the huge demands that my long daily commute places on my car, we had started thinking about investigating other car makes like Honda or Toyota. But we've completely reconsidered: nothing compares with exceptional customer service. Our next car will be a Hyundai from Escondido Hyundai! read more

HYUNDAI OF ESCONDIDO TRIED TO KILL ME. I went in for inquiries about my tire pressure light and hoping to get it reset off. The service department told me that all 4 tire pressure sensors were bad and that I would need to get them all replaced. They did a "courtesy inspection" and said they put in air in my tires to match 32 psi. I told them I was not going to fix all 4 sensors just yet and when I took my car into Firestone because I felt that I was swerving on the highway/felt a loss of control after I left Hyundai Escondido. I was notified that I had 80 psi in each of my tires and as soon as the pressure was lowered back to normal the light turned off. This should have never happened. I honestly could have lost control on the highway due to the massive amount of pressure added into my tires and could have died. I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE AND ADVICE EVERYONE THAT DOES TO STAY SAFE. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. First I called and made an appointment an hour ahead of time. Got to the dealership and was told they were busy and I would need to wait just a minute. Ok no problem.... Well... 20 minutes later I was still waiting to be helped so we walked outside and started looking at cars.... A bald older gent walked over and was the most rude ahole I have ever encountered in my life... He cut me off when I tried to speak and when I told him we waited a while he snapped at me at said "well we're busy, and half my sales team didn't show up today" I almost walked out, but I needed a car since I was out of one for two months and wanted a Hyundai. Talked to another guy. Was fairly nice.. seemed annoyed to be helping me. I test drove a Santa Fe.... Wanted to lease it. Well after wasting an hour of my time they told me they couldn't even do numbers with me on a trade in because they were under new owners the next day and weren't interested.. Well ok then... I'm perfectly fine with that considering I went to Kia right after that and bought an amazing car from a very friendly team... Because of this experience I had with Hyundai Escondido I will never buy a Hyundai. Anywhere. Completely ruined my want to walk in any of their dealerships again. read more

I bought my certified pre-owned car from hyundai 6 months ago. I was very pleased with the customer service and the vehicle. A few months after driving I realized my tires were needing to be filled up quite often. Too much if you ask me. Then at the 6 month mark I got a flat. When I went to get it repaired at a local tire shop the mechanic told me that the tire had been previously patched and that all my tires were very worn and ready to be changed. I was in shock that after 6 months I needed new tires! I went to the dealership to speak with the general manager about this problem I was having. I told him I found the same tires that were on my car when i bought it brand new online for a great price. The GM told me no problem I understand your dilemma and we want you to be happy. So I brought my car down within the next 3 days, they kept it overnight and put four Brand New tires on my car (even better then the ones I had originally) Much appreciated!!!! Great service! And I have to say it's refreshing to know there are still good people and good companies out there that care. read more

Our experience with Hyundai of Escondido was FANTASTIC! My husband and I accompanied our friends, a young couple, to negotiate a deal for a new Elantra. My husband spoke extensively with salesman Bill Batch on the telephone about pricing, leasing etc. prior to our making a 2 hour drive to Escondido. Upon our arrival Bill had the sparkling new car pulled right up front to greet us. Literally everything Bill promised over the telephone he delivered without question or reservation. Of course processing the application for credit took a little time but they had us out of there in an hour and a half! This was my first stop in looking for a new Sonata. I have never purchased a car from a dealer before, so I was bit nervous. Amy was a very sweet sales lady and we had a great conversation during our test drive. Although, she seemed a bit inexperience, but I didn't want to deal with arrogant car salesman anyway, so that wasn't a big deal. I was ready to buy the car and sign away, until she inputs the mileage to activate my blue link, she puts 800 miles! This is a brand new car and my first brand new car, I was shocked! Granted, I should have looked at the odometer, but this is my first rodeo. Shouldn't you mention, by the way, this does have 800 miles, but if you want, we can find another car for you! I always assumed that brand new cars out of the lot would have less than 200 or so. I understand with all the test driving, but how long has this car been sitting in your lot?! My stomach started to turn and I didn't feel right and I actually was asking for a better deal and for them to throw in the "bumper to bumper" warranty and alarm (which I come to find out that all of that is already included!) They wouldn't budge, the sales manager was only going to throw in the alarm, in which the car already had!! The thing that upset me, was the sales manager had the nerve to tell me that he sells brand new cars with high miles all the time and that he just sold one with 5,000 miles on it. I get it, it's still considered a new car if it has never been registered, but that's just some shady business practice. I told him he was never going to sell that car for what I was almost willing to pay. I decided to leave and not buy the car and as I was leaving the sales manager says to me "Good Luck" in a smart ass tone. SCREW YOU! What an ass move and an ass thing to say when trying to con someone in paying nearly MSRP for a car with 800 miles! Luckily, I got a better deal in Carlsbad with less than 50 miles and the bumper to bumper warranty this dealer tried to sell me on, all for $400 less for what I was going to pay! Here's the kicker, I told the salesman in Carlsbad about my experience and he points out the same car with 800 miles to me in his Carlsbad lot. He says that Escondido traded this one for one of their cars, but they don't want it and is asking Escondido to come back and pick it up! Yeah, you say you can sell it no problem, yet you tried to pawn it off to another dealer! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! read more

The service department here is terrible. I have had two, very frustrating experiences with my Hyundai vehicle which was made terribly worse by their bad customer service and warranty coverage. They have made serious mistakes on both occasions and, rather than try to create solutions for the problem, they defend their mistakes and try to justify it by stating "well we have 5 star reviews on Yelp" (which they do not.). Regardless of their opinion of themselves, they have never provided even mediocre service and my car's problems are not fixed. Please beware of this service department and of Hyundai's deceiving warranty coverage in general. read more

We first contacted Nick Cuccinela from the internet sales department. He responded to every question my wife and I had. We went in on a Friday to look at a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. After test driving we went back to his office. We liked the car but we needed time to think about our first new car purchase so we went home. We returned on Monday and we settled on a price. Before sending it back for a carwash and gas he offered us another test drive to be sure it was the one we wanted. I was surprised that he offered because I feel like most salesmen would just be in a hurry to get your signature. We closed the deal and we are very happy to have found a respectable salesman. Ok, update on my initial experience referenced a few months ago... Corporate stepped in and made everything right within 48 hours of finding out!!They bent over backwards to give me a good experience, and a great deal. They were absolutely transparent! Furthermore, I am assured no one will ever have an experience like I referenced earlier! Based on that experience and promise, I will give them another try next time I want a Hyundai! read more
