This is a reasonable priced small restaurant in Redwood City. It's pretty small inside with a few tables. My dumpling craving led me there. We did a takeout. Green Chives Pan Cake- the description mentions two pieces but doesn't say what the filling is made up of. it has chives, scrambled eggs, dried shrimps. It's delicious but no dipping sauce. Vegetarian Dumplings- we got 12 dumplings. Filled with shredded cabbage. I am no great expert on eating dumplings but this came with no sauce and it was very dry by itself. Because we did a takeout I had it with soy sauce at home . Not sure if it was missed in our order. Pickled tofu noodle soup - very lightly flavored. Simple broth served with sea weed, tofu and noodles. The quantity is huge. Serves 3 people easily. My husband is a vegetarian and hence this order. When we went to pick up instead of handing over to us the guy at the counter realized our order was vegetarian and made it a point to tell us the pancake had shrimps. It was very astute of him to tell us that. Extra star for him. But Doordash (where we ordered from) or the restaurant needs to update the menu. This place definitely has a hole in the wall kind of ambience, even though it's located on a busy street. I came here with a group of 5 for dinner on a Thursday night. We came around 6 and it wasn't very busy, but as the night went on, all of the tables were filled up. The interior is very small, only 5 or 6 tables total. We ordered a couple of different items including the fried rice, noodles, and a few different dumplings. The food was average, the only thing that was especially tasty was the chive and pork dumplings. Everything else was so-so. Daughter was craving for soup dumplings and came across this restaurant on Yelp. Ordered Togo: Shanghai soup dumplings, cucumbers salad, vegetarian dumplings, and bean curd noodle salad. I think soup dumplings are not best when ordered for a pick up. It was warm and the soup was either on the bottom of the container or it was not juicy so the experience was not the best. Veggie dumplings were not good. I think it was minced cabbage. Cucumbers salad and the bean curd noodles salad was too salty for our liking. Chicken Dumpling with Spinach - might as well be a spinach dumpling. There was little to no chicken with each bite. Like above, the dough was firm and tough to chew. I came here with my family on Christmas Eve morning because we were craving dim sum. First off, the restaurant itself is a tiny hole in the wall space on Broadway Street but it looked like they took over the space next door for additional seating. Nothing fancy or flashy, kind of something you'd expect in Chinatown. The service itself was ok, not the friendliest but very typical Asian restaurant service where they're very straightforward (I'm Asian and encounter this all the time). We ordered the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Green Onion Pancakes, salt and pepper tofu, wonton soup, lamb dumplings, and the pork and shrimp dumplings. My favorite dishes were the soup dumplings and the SP tofu, which was super crispy on the outside and soft and silky on the inside. The green onion pancakes were pretty oily and all the dumplings kinda just tasted the same after awhile. The wonton soup were just the wontons in a light broth, nothing super special and the wontons tasted exactly like the other dumplings. I know they hand-make the dough and noodles in house which is cool but they were a little too thick for my liking. Maybe I'm just not used to Taiwanese style of dim sum/dumplings but I'd probably only come back for the soup dumplings. read more

After a long hiatus, I Dumplings was due for a visit. I should say that the last time I visited, the Xiao Long Bao tasted a bit off and it left a bad taste in my mouth - no pun intended. I've frequented the place quite a bit because I did like the food but that one incident was the reason for the hiatus. Fast forward a few years, and with a hungering desire for some XLBs, it was time to pay a revisit. This time everything tasted great and definitely satisfied the XLB cravings. The skin in on the thicker side with a very thick dough ball at the top where they pinch them close. I know, First World problem, and I shouldn't call out this ridiculous "point" but it kinda takes away from the delicateness of a XLB, in my opinion. Overall, a tasty dough ball filled with juicy protein. Also ordered the beef stew noodle soup (not a fan of gristle) and Taiwanese-style stewed pork rice bento. The bento had disproportionately too much rice. The menu offers "Home Style" dim sum, handmade dumplings, and typical Taiwanese cold side dishes. Prices are affordable and the place is not very large, but it can definitely fill your desires for some Taiwanese food. read more

I have been coming here for years and it is still a family favorite. Their tree ear mushroom with cucumber is really tasty. And their vegetarian dumplings and potstickers are incredible. They are well made and extremely prompt. They also opened a new area for business and have so much more seating which is fantastic!! We especially love the pork potstickers. The sesame balls were also yummy and great as dessert. Parking wasn't too bad, even though we came on Saturday during lunch hour. The shop is a hole in the wall, but don't let this fool you! The food here is great! That's what you're here for. Upon arriving to the restaurant, I noticed it was very small and had little seating. My friend and I were the second party to arrive at 6:40pm on a Friday night. We were really looking forward to ordering Xiao Long Bao and we were so surprised to hear that they didn't have any! This is the most popular item on their menu. How do they not have any, especially on a Friday night?! That did not deter us away though. We decided to order the Tree Ear Mushrooms with Cucumbers, Pork Dumplings with Chives, Pork Pot Stickers, and Beef Tendon Noodle Soup to share. Here's my review for all the dishes: Wood Ear Mushrooms with Cucumbers - Very plain (garlic and what I think is a light mixture of vinegar and light soy sauce?). I can't believe this was $6.95. They're really profiting on this. Avoid ordering this. Pork Dumplings with Chive - Decent. It could use a little more seasoning but was one of the better dishes that we ordered. Pork Pot Stickers - Pan fried perfectly and it was tasty. Beef Tendon Noodle Soup - Shockingly bland. Good amount of noodles that tasted fresh but it didn't hit the spot at all. We had to add fried chili oil to add flavor. On top of the disappointing food, one of the workers at the back came up to us and asked my friend to quiet down because she was laughing too loud. There was only one other party (table of 2) in the restaurant, of course she may sound loud because there's nothing in the restaurant to absorb the sound. Not only did this kill our mood, but when a few more parties arrived (which I have to say, the noise level inside the restaurant overall was much louder than us), we saw they were able to order Xiao Long Bao. I thought you ran out? How did more appear? It could be that the person that makes it didn't arrive yet... but we arrived at 6:40pm on a Friday night... The only thing that's keeping me from giving I Dumpling one star is our waitress who was really nice. She checked on us multiple times so we really appreciated it that. So all in all, if you don't mind average food and questionable service from the back kitchen, this may or may not be your place. read more

We've wanted to try this place for a while, but because of its location on the corner of Broadway and El Camino, we only ever saw it in passing until recently. I'm glad we finally got to come in! We tried their Pork Dumpling with Napa Cabbage, Beef Noodle Soup, and Xiao Long Bao. The pork dumplings were my favorite of them, since they had really well seasoned fillings and wrappers with a slight bit of chew even after being boiled. The soup was definitely tasty, with a nice kick that came after each bite of the beef or noodles and a balanced level of the medicinal spices. But, since I'm more used to Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup, it wasn't my favorite that I've had in this area. The xiao long bao were good, though the wrappers were a bit thick, particularly compared to the 'gold standard' of Din Tai Fung. All-in-all, I really enjoyed the experience eating in here. It reminded me (in a good way) of small restaurants in New York, with that hole-in-the-wall vibe that works well for them. We were in the area and wanted to eat dumplings. We've been here before and enjoyed it so we decided to come back. There was plenty of street parking and parking was free after 6pm. We got lucky and we were seated right away. It's a small place so a few minutes after we were seated, a line started to form. The pork dumplings with chives was our favorite. The dumpling wraps are on the thicker side. Last time we got the pork dumplings with Napa cabbage it was great, but this time it was a bit dry. The Kung Pao chicken was disappointing, definitely won't be getting it next time. The bathroom was dirty as other reviews have mentioned. Service is ok, not very attentive.
