On my this gloomy day off I decided I wanted some sushi and I so happen to come across this place and I figured by the name I was destined to be here, I walked in to smile from the staff and great vibes and great soft music, this place is very clean and my waitress was very nice, but that's just the beginning as for the food it was absolutely delicious and the sushi is very fresh. We have tried all of the other sushi places Denton has to offer and we always come back to I Love Sushi. Nothing else compares to the quality of the food and service. We always feel so welcomed and comfortable. My husband and I always get the Tokyo Tower, it's by far our favorite thing to get. Stopped in for dinner last night while I am visiting Denton, TX. I was very impressed! The service was great and the sushi for being Denton, TX was actually pretty tasty. I went pretty safe with my rolls though choosing the Spicy Bulgogi roll, Louisianna roll (baked crawfish and crab on top of a california roll) and a shrimp tempura roll. I know I know that is wayyyyy too much sushi for one person, well if you order edamame and a sapporo as well, of course it is! It was all very tasty. The Bulgogi roll was my favorite. I sat at the sushi bar which unfortunately is a little cramped and it does give off a little divey feel when you walk in. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again, I will just try not to eat like I haven't eaten in five days! read more

I am a regular and I absolutely this place! It's a very nice place to bring a special date or the whole family. There are SO many choices to choose from and all are delicious! One of my favorites are the Bento Boxes! They are one of the specials during lunch time on the week days only! I also recommend to check the time before hand since they have lunch break between hours. And don't forget about the Fried Green Tea Ice Cream! OH. MY. GOSHHH! This is the best Denton local place for affordable and delicious sushi options. The staff is always welcoming and I feel more like I am at someone's home than I do a restaurant. The ambiance is quite playful and full of color; the collection of lucky cats all around the place warms my heart since I have an extensive collection myself. Every meal comes with a complimentary bowl of miso soup to start with. If you're going the roll route, I recommend ordering at least one roll per person and then sharing. My husband and I usually order 3 and are beyond full when leaving. With 60+ different rolls to try, there is quite the variety. Theres also Individual nigiri sushi(2 pieces /order) as well a sashimi if rolls aren't your forte. My personal favorite that isn't on the menu (but is on the sheet you can order from) is the Carribbean Roll. Its a rice paper roll with tuna, salmon, crab, avocado, mango, and tobico. This is fresh, light, sweet, and tangy. We like to end our meal with this because it is the most amazing combination of flavors. Another reason why I love this place, is that they offer options for those in your party that might be a little hesitant for trying sushi. My mother, no matter how hard I try, will never try sushi. But, she LOVES this place because they offer a sizeable amount of non sushi options. My mother enjoys the Teriyaki Bento (chicken, beef, and salmon) boxes for meals that come with a variety of foods (served with house salad, steamed rice, vegetable tempura, and 4 pieces of California roll). She feels included in the experience which makes me happy. While there are other upscale options for sushi which I goto for special occasions, this place is my go to sushi stop on a regular basis. This is my second time coming to this location. It's a great hole in the wall spot with a large sushi menu. As soon as I walked in I was greater by everyone which took me by surprise. They then sat me down and was eager to ensure that I had a great experience. I received AMAZING service from Yvonne who was friendly, knowledgeable, and had a great personality. Fish is very fresh and prices are reasonable so far my favorite sushi place in Denton. I like the way that you order from paper menu. They are very helpful at telling you fish after they serve you. The rice is somewhat soft compared to what I've had in the past. This is not in a bad way just different than what I'm use to. They were so friendly and welcoming. I got the chicken teriyaki dinner plate which included miso soup, salad, four pieces of delicious California roll, steamed rice, shrimp and veggie tempura, tempura sauce and teriyaki chicken. The food is great! Waitress was extremely nice and kept our glasses full. But.... We went one night an hour before they closed, we saw there wasn't anyone sitting down to eat. We get out of the car, they cut the lights off really quick and locked the doors as soon as I walked up to the door, which I thought was kinda rude. Oh well I guess. Out of all the sushi restaurants I've tried, I still keep coming back to I Love Sushi. I've been coming here for 5 years now and every visit has been great. I've tried a lot of the rolls which can get pricey but worth it nonetheless. The sashimi has always been surprisingly fresh and delicious. The owners always greet me, and the staff is very friendly. However, they don't take to rude people very well. Their meals and appetizers are also amazing. I recommend the monkey brains for an appetizer and the volcano roll for some sushi. I'm happy we have this place in Denton. They have great staff and the food is consistently good. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life and this place isn't high end, but for a local place it's my go-to. I stick with the simple stuff here mostly since the things without lots of sauce/fried/cream cheese are a better representation of the quality of the fish. My favorites are the eel nigiri, the red snapper, and yellow tail. For the rolls, I really like the futomaki and the green world roll (all veg. and surprisingly good!). That said, I feel no shame in recommending the vegetable tempura appetizer also. This place is great for a casual night out and I'm sure I will be coming for a long time. read more

The menu is diverse, and the sushi is good though not earth shattering. Their specialty rolls are friggin huge tho. The "heart" in their name is ridiculously appropriate though. They are ridiculously nice every time I come in, whether we're dining in or getting take out. They've earned our loyalty with their service alone. That the food is good too is a bonus. read more

I am a major foodie and I LOVE Japanese food. I have had it in Japan, Korea, and several large cities in the U.S., as well as cities that are not so urban. What I'm trying to say is that I know my stuff and might have a high standard when it comes to J.F. but I have realistic expectations. I'm not expecting Japanese/Korean/Coastal quality in Denton, TX. Even though I'm a foodie, I'm not a food SNOB either .Ok? OK! =) I wanted to treat my bf out to some yum yum so we rolled up here around 9:15-20. We knew we were taking a risk since it was late, but....he really wanted some Japanese food so we walked in. We were greeted warmly and told to seat wherever. The place has bright lighting and has cute decor. The menu had a good variety. They have bulgogi and galbi (Korean bbq) if anyone wants that. They also serve alcohol. My bf wanted to start off with a large Sake so we did that. Then we noticed that they had a special on small Sake for 99 cents on the wall-(originally about 4). We asked the waitress about it later and she was like "Yeah, we have a special going on." She never mentioned it to us before/during our order. The large is about 9 bucks. We also asked how big was the small Sake and it seemed to be not too small either. The bf and I weren't too happy w/this. She kinda gave us an attitude about it when she should have mentioned it to us. My bf ordered the Beef Yakisoba and I ordered the Chirashi bowl. The food came out quickly-maybe too quickly. They did give us complimentary miso soups but it was meh. B. Y. : His yakisoba was not Yakisoba. We had lowered our expectations too because we're in Denton but this was disappointing. The sauce was off- more like teriyaki sauce and extremely sweet- and they didn't even use the right noodles. The portion was small, especially the amount of noodles when it's supposed to be a noodle dish. AND even though I love things drenched in sauce, this was too drenched, even for me. But the beef was juicy and the veggies were fresh. C.B. l: My Chirashi Bowl had a pretty decent presentation. I was happy to see generous portions of Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Egg, Red Snapper, and Squid topped off with Masago. I noticed that they also have higher quality ginger (the white kind). However, I started getting more disappointed with each bite...and even a little bit worried. YT, Tuna, Squid and the roe tasted a little too fishy, especially YT, squid and the roe. If they were any more fishy, I would've spitted 'em out. I ended up scraping off all the roe off my plate because it had the most fishy taste. The salmon however, was pretty tasty, fresh and had the right textrure. The R.S was average and the egg was normal. Our waitress went MIA after serving our food and never really came back to check on us. She was busy cleaning up but even when we were looking at her and waiting patiently, she didn't come by until I went up to the sushi chef to get more ginger. The owners and the sushi chef didn't say anything about her being unattentive, which disappointed/surprised me even more. I wouldn't have been as turned off if we were at some cheap place serving burgers (shoot, had better service at those places), but this was a Japanese restaurant and not cheap. There were only two other tables besides us! Additionally, I myself have been a waitress at a Japanese restaurant and when you are a waitress at a Japanese restaurant, you are supposed to be more informative, attentive and extra catering. I know you want to make your money and I know you want to finish cleaning before the restaurant closes and not stay after, but not informing us about the special and acting indifferent when we asked about it, ignoring us the rest of the night, is unacceptable for me. I've had many bad experiences at restaurants but I usu. give them another chance. I'm not sure if I will do that with this place. I actually tried another place here in Denton too so I know they can do better. read more

I Love Sushi? I Heart Sushi? Either or, the answer is yes. This tiny little Denton gem has gone through several semi-transformations over the years but never fails to deliver a unique experience for the area. Boasting a mere 10 tables or so, I Love Sushi is quaintly decorated and relaxed, with friendly staff greeting and waving at you from behind the sushi bar. Contain your excitement upon seeing the beautiful photographs of each individual roll dish. While they may not come to your table with the exact elaborate presentation as in the photos, they are nonetheless tasty and absolutely enormous and filling. A favorite of mine has been the Louisiana Roll, and it has been hard for me to stray. I wasn't such a fan of the slimy cucumber-wrapped Sexy Roll or the explosion that was the Volcano "Roll," but hey, there are like 50 more specialty rolls to try! read more

I ordered sushi from them the other night to go, and it was warm. I was with my boyfriend and good friend, and they both got sick afterwards, both of them throwing up. I called them to tell them that there food made two people sick, and they proceeded to not only act rude but to tell me They would do nothing for it. I would have to go to the doctor and get a note saying I had food poisoning. They were rude, and it really wasn't that good. I don't recommend this place to anyone, there are plenty of other places that serve fresh, COLD sushi. My bf and I saw the good reviews so we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was nice and the workers were really friendly and welcoming. Customer service deserves 5 stars for us, but quality and food wise.. it was mediocre and low quality in our opinion. I got the I Love Crab roll (w/o avocado due to allergies) and my bf got the Chirashi Don bowl. The complimentary miso soup was great, but you can definitely get the sushi and bowl we got elsewhere for a better deal. Our total came out to be $36 for two entrees, which is a little much for the quality we received. It wasn't disgusting, but we probably won't be back :/ read more

Wow! I was impressed by I love Sushi. The decor is really cute and the atmosphere is cozy, great for a date! The sushi tastes fresh and flavors are well put together. I don't like fried and covered with sauce things, so I went for the Ocean roll, 3 kinds of fish, it was so good! Also, had a bottle of the house sake for a very reasonable price. We love this place! Let me start by saying that I am not a sushi aficionado. Just started going to sushi restaurants this year and have tried a total of 4 places. None of them were buffets :) I love that coming/ going you always get a smile and a hello/ thank you. I know this is a little thing, but really, how often do the people at a restaurant seem genuinely happy to see you even on a first visit? Free miso soup at the start of every meal. It's a really simple little soup, tiny bits of green onion and tofu, but all I have to say is "miso soup" and my husband insists on eating sushi for lunch. If the words "miso soup" do not inspire him, "$1 small sake" will. Appetizers: Fried Tofu - I really wish they would sell the fried tofu at the State Fair. The batter has that bit of sweetness that the Fair fried food has. This stuff however is not so greasy that you feel ill afterwards. I like it alot. Yakatori - small but tasty skewers of vegetable and shrimp, chicken or beef. I'm not too crazy about the sauce that they use, but husband loves them. Probably because it's food on a skewer. Tempura Shrimp - it's long fried shrimp. yummy. Bento Boxes: Nice little tossed salad with shredded carrot on top, not the best I have had, but just fine. Tempura shrimp, yummy. Tempura vegetables, huge. Really big. The bulgogi was just fine, the sashimi had a nice thickness and seemed fresh. I'm a little addicted to the white tuna. Rolls: Looove the Firecracker roll. A little spicy, a little crunchy, all yummy. All of the other rolls (with exceptions below) have been great. So far everyone that I have brought here has asked for us to take them back again. This includes my aunt, my mother-in-law and my much-cooler-than-me friends. All have enjoyed both the tempura and regular rolls. It's also great that they have some for under $7 so it is possible to fill up 2 people on a budget. And get them a little toasted on $1 sake. I think the Bulgogi roll is the only one that I have tried that I didn't really care for. It didn't taste bad, just boring. The Spider roll and Calamari roll I was expecting a bit more from - like tenticles, so again a bit on the boring side. I have not tried any of the rolls with fruit in them. Soup: Oh the Spicy Seafood Udon! Big bowl of soup with udon noodles (they will switch them out for a different noodle if you prefer), shrimp, clams, scallops and other yumminess. Could definitely be spicier, but it will still warm you up. Chicken Teriyaki: My friend had it and liked it alot, I had a taste and thought it was just okay. But then, I really do not ever order that dish so I have nothing to compare it to. The atmosphere is very comfortable. The other places we have been to have had loud (usually techno) music playing and the seating area seems too big and too dark. This place is perfect. The inside is very inviting.
