In a word...AMAZING! Now let me explain. I'm a picky BBQ person. The sauce has to be good. By that I mean don't just be ordinary. The meat has to be good and the variety needs to be there. This place is amazing all around. Frankly, it's our new favorite BBQ in San Diego area...for that matter....the west coast for sure! Not to mention, the owners and entire staff are awesome and so friendly! We had the mixed meat combo plate. We opted for Burnt Ends and Pulled Pork. We chose our 2 sides and it came with 2 rolls. The sides were a hard choice because they let us try a few before deciding and we went with the baked beans and potato salad. Almost did the amazing mac n cheese. The baked beans are not your ordinary baked beans! They have a lil something extra and you can't stop eating them. The food came and the meats were cooked to perfection. Just enough char on the burnt ends and the pork was so tender! We were trying out some of the sauces. The house bbq is tangy and sweet which was stick to your ribs (pardon the pun) good! They also have a spicy mustard bbq that we loved also....even dipping the potato salad into it. There's a mango one too but I didn't try it today. The vibe inside is southern bbq which is all you need. Nothing fancy, but the table has plenty of paper towels, sauces and even hand sanitizer for when you get too sticky. Then we switched to dessert. We opted for the pistachio cake and the strawberry lemonade cake. But the list of desserts went on and on too, and I want to go back for the peach cobbler! Oh man, finally some top notch BBQ!!! Everything is on point, even the cakes. The strawberry lemon cake was so good. The people there are friendly and it makes the trip there all the better. My GF doesn't eat pork so the got the beef ribs. I'm not much into the beef ribs (just preference) so it's pork ribs for me but I'll make an exception for these! How many times have you gone to the "Best BBQ spot in town", spent $40 for ONE person, and ended up with nasty sides and nasty meat (unless you drench it with their BBQ sauce)? I'll tell you right now.. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Why? Because you don't know better. Forget everything you thought you knew about BBQ and come to this place. Allow them to welcome you to some REAL BBQ! The staff is very attentive, friendly, and welcoming (whether you're a regular or just walked in for the first time). From the first visit until my 10th visit now, I have ALWAYS felt like family. They are one of the only spots in San Diego that serves Collard Greens (I'm telling you right now, don't even go to the other places- it's gonna be nasty) and MAKE their own BOMB Mac and Cheese (that's right- not boxed)! They sell freshly made cornbread and other baked goods! They do have their own delicious BBQ sauces, but that's if you don't fork down all the yummy food before hand! I always get the Hot Link plate. You get two sides and it's only $15! Affordable and Amazing- that's why I go so often! I've been wanting to write a review every time I go there, but I just wanted to keep this place a secret for a little while longer..... Just kidding- honestly.. I really hope that whoever typically enjoys Phil's BBQ in SD will also come to I Que BBQ to see how great it is. I came here over a year ago with my fiancee, whose former high school teacher is the owner of this restaurant. We were very warmly greeted upon arriving, and we were very well taken care of during our time there. The owners are great people with big hearts, and it shows not only in how they interact with people, but in the food that they serve. The brisket plate I got was excellent, along with the sides of mac & cheese and coleslaw. I Que BBQ had been on my radar. Last month I had an opportunity to visit and dine in for lunch. I love the Atlanta , GA them decor , the background music was relaxing , and the owner delivered excellent customer service and the food was so good! I ordered 2 BBQ hot links that were cooked to perfection , perfect crisp with juicy flavor! The Bar B Que sauce is very good too! I added hot sauce to my links! Oh so delicious! Bar B Que potato chips and a ice cold Sprite . I didn't try the desserts but I felt like I was in dessert Heaven! Presentation of desserts looked delicious! I will try dessert on the next visit. This place surpasses all the places I've tried the meat was really good and the sauce was just perfect. The sides complimented my sandwhich perfectly. My fiancé and I came to this place based on a friend's recommendation and we were blown away by how amazing and melt in your mouth the food tasted. This is a family establishment and the food tastes like southern home, to which my fiancé can attest to since he is from the south (TN) lol. He got brisket and hot links with coleslaw and mac n cheese. I got the brisket with mac n cheese and cornbread. We were also lucky enough to try the burnt ends (which were fire) and we were speechless because of how the amazing the food tastes. The service is phenomenal; the owner was very hospitable, kind, and took the time to explain the menu to us. We will definitely be back to try other items on their menu. This might be the best BBQ in all of San Diego. The service and atmosphere are top notch, and the prices are totally fair. The best part is the food though, as it should be. I-Que-BBQ is a must have BBQ place. If you are ever in the area do yourself a favor and get a tasty cut of meat done the right way by this small but quaint establishment. It's hard to find a place that does Mesquite smoked BBQ the right way. The balance between the smoke, the BBQ sauce, and the meat itself is top notch here and can't be rivaled by any other place in San Diego. Located in a small strip mall within a stone's throw from the 94 and 125, it could be easy to miss this gem if you happen to be driving down the road. If you're like me and have dabbled in smoking meat, you know how easy it is for mesquite to overwhelm any cut of meat. Not with Tyrone, aka "Coach T". It is clear he puts pride into every dish and I am honored to have had the opportunity to have met him. A gentle giant that treated me like family. With "Miss P" ringing you up at the order stand and greeting you with a smile how can you not feel the southern comfort that is provided by this place. I will most certainly be back and I can't recommend this place enough to anyone looking for that "hole-in-the-wall" home style smoky barbecue. Someone catered lunch to my office and this is what they sent us. The owners daughter delivered the food and she was so sweet and friendly! We were so shocked by how amazing the food was and at the cost. BBQ is usually insanely pricey, but they're prices are good! Now for the food...we had burnt ends which were absolutely amazing and I will for sure be getting those again. There were super meaty ribs which everyone loved. The brisket was a little dry, but I spent most of my time with those burnt ends lol. Mac and Cheese was delicious! Super peppery, so it doesn't look like your average Mac. I brought a plate home to my husband who said the coleslaw was hands down the best he's ever had! I can't wait to actually visit their restaurant! We found this gem of a place because our company was doing work on the mall. Due to limited hours it took a bit before we could get here, but it was definitely worth the wait. I love Texas BBQ and am lucky enough to travel to TX often enough to indulge in the delicacy. This BBQ is right up there with the best. What a treat to have I-Que BBQ so close to us. We've ordered take out once and eaten in once, and both times the food and service were great. The restaurant has a family feel inside, comfortable, and with TVs showing whichever sport you are a fan of. Well I ate here twice in one weekend! It was that great on many levels. Huge portion on pulled pork- fed my Dad for 3 days! The pork ribs were meaty and had a nice chew to them, (in a good way) not falling off the bone. (which I really liked ) the sauce oh man the sauce was my kinda sauce- sticky sweet tangy- and the habanero on the wings was ahhhh mazing!! The cake- the green pistachio cake was calling my name and I came running. Sides were also a standout- Mac n cheese- yumm, collards yummm, potato salad yum. Beef bones were also what brought me back for a try- and they were great- that special taste you only get with beef and love added to the food. Friendly efficient service, very cute to dine in. Here's the thing, I've been in a funk lately... Wah, whoa is me, right? Agreed. For me, one of the side effects of being down is that I lose all motivation to cook, which absolutely pains me. I haven't used my Weber 22" kettle in months and we all should agree that a Thanksgiving bird cooked on a grill absolutely smokes (pun intended) a bird in the oven. Even knowing this, the effort to spend the time simply was not worth it for me this year. Enter, I Que BBQ. When I saw I Que BBQ was offering Thanksgiving packages I jumped all over it. A smoked turkey, yams, collard greens, mac and cheese, and dinner rolls fit the bill and I handled a few small tasks on my own. You know, things like stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes... I can handle that. Okay, so now this is when you ask, "how was it, Brad B?" And this is when I respond, "It was AWESOME!" The bird was juicy and not overly smoked or seasoned while the sides complimented each other perfectly. Was really looking forward to trying this place. They're pretty hard sticklers for inventory. We asked for a sampler and they didn't have one at the time. So we ordered a bit of everything and didn't want the chips and soda thay came with it; but they insisted and insisted, not impolite about it, but the fact thay it happened is annoying. Food. Beans are mediocre and that's whay I judge BBQ places on. Brisket was kind of bland. The wings? You better not have your mother near you or she'll get slapped because those wings are some of the greatest wings I've had. The real letdown was the "Peach Sweet Tea".
